Things I don’t get about the marauders fandom as someone who’s been obsessed with them for literal years

1. How we let so many characters be only children?? like I get that people don’t necessarily want to make OCs but HOW did it get to this? James, Marlene, Peter, Remus, Mary, Barty, Dorcas, Alice, Frank and so many others! Idk maybe it’s just where I’m from but look me in the eyes and tell me you know that many people who don’t have siblings ALSO the ratio is so off and barely any of them have only child energy. It’s just not right.

2. How sooo many of you aren’t multi shippers. Like what do you MEAN you can only see James with Regulus and Regulus with James?? What about bartylus? what about sunrose? what about draksun/sunkiller? what about moonwater? what about jily? what about prongstail? WHAT do you read?? Aren’t you bored??? WHAT DO YOU MEAN you only have ONE ship for each character???? As a multi shipper, I can be convinced of any ship with anything ranging from a real good fic or a pretty edit to an enthusiastic rant from a random person on TikTok and it just makes things interesting. Maybe my adhd brain just needs more ships to focus on or maybe some of you just lack flexibility ( or imagination), but we need to fix this cause there aren’t enough fics with the ships I like 😭😭

3. THE SHIP NAMES. I can’t be the only one who thinks some of these suck right? Like why are we saying jegulus when starchaser and sunseeker are RIGHT THERE?? Same with jily and flowerpot, and bartylus and starkiller. ALSO some names make me wonder if some of you just haven’t grasped the concept of ship names or if I just got it all wrong cause marylily and jegulily are just annoying, why are we keeping the L in Lily? The point is to merge the names together not stick them one beside the other, I just say marily and jeguily because it rolls off the tongue so much more easily

4. The Peter erasure. I just don’t get it, it’s so easy to include him in things, you don’t have to make him a main character, but just mention him every once in awhile. Sometimes I’m reading an important scene in a fic and everyone is mentioned EXCEPT for Peter! It’s so easy, just make him roll his eyes at his friends being idiots or something. And it’s not like you’ll get his personality wrong, ALL THESE CHARACTERS PERSONALITIES WERE MADE UP BY FANS but I understand that some people lack imagination so here’s some things about Peter I like to imagine: he’s a HUGE gossip, like my man sees and hears everything and he takes notes!! He likes to randomly turn into a rat and take a nap in one of the other marauders’ pocket, he does it so much that they had to tell the girls that they had a pet rat cause they were asking too many questions. He’s really perceptive and his friends are all oblivious so it leads to funny scenarios like:

Sirius: I’ve literally introduced you to people I was dating?!

Peter, shrugging: look mate I don’t question you lot anymore, you do whatever you want, I don’t care what you’re into, I just don’t wanna know about it

He also pulls people, like he’s really nice and will gossip to anyone who’s in his vicinity so he’s friends with basically everyone and he’s funny and pretty and he’s got charisma so he just charms everyone and when I say everyone, I mean everyone, even the slytherins have a soft spot for him (that’s how he gets accepted among the death eaters during the war actually). In pranks he’s the lookout so he often has to distract the teachers so he asks them random things and spits out half-made up facts about anything so he’s besties with most of the teachers which means he doesn’t get many detentions.

5. The Black brothers, more specifically the way the speak to each other in most fics, like they call each other “brother” so often and as someone who has a brother I’ve never called him that. Is it an anglophone thing? Like do people who speak English at home all do that or are fic writers only children?? (That would explain my first point actually) Or is it more a rich people thin?? Cause I know it’s not a francophone thing that’s for sure (also special mention to people who don’t know anything about French writing Sirius and Regulus as French speakers, I can tell you don’t know what you’re writing about but I eat it up everytime anyway)

6. This is actually just about ao3 but I WANNA BE ABLE TO LEAVE MORE KUDOS!!! I just loooooove fics but I can’t leave kudos at every single chapter and I’m bad at writing comments so I can’t show the author how much I love their work, I hate itttt 😭

7. Why there aren’t more fics about the Black family, and not just Sirius and Regulus, but Andromeda, Bellatrix and Narcissa as well like that would be so interesting and maybe like a deep dive into the Black family ideals and all that (if you have fic recs I’m all ears!!)

8. How jegulily is a pretty popular ship (which I LOVE) yet SO FEW people ship Regulus and Lily outside of it! They are a power couple and I love them and they don’t need James to work!!!

9. Why there isn’t more background Minnie x Poppy cause they are my mothers and I wanna see them moooooreeee

Battle of the bands au:

The Death Eaters (main characters of the fics, povs will probably switch between them, but mostly Barty and Reg): Regulus (guitar), Barty (vocal), Evan (bass) and Dorcas (drums). Pandora is the manager, she does not want to be on stage when her brother is wilding with his bf. Primarily emo but with some influences from scene era genres. Very angsty and angry, also very sexual and violent, we dissect bodies and eat them for the metaphor also here’s a song about giving head to jesus

Very experimental but also have their own identity? Chicks who rock, the system stinks, let the world burn, save the bees

My opinions on Marauders era ship names (my opinions no hate)

— Wolfstar - 7.5/10, I really like it it’s like a wolf howling to the moon but expect to a star, which is strange but beautiful. I’ve heard it sm it’s kinda normal for me idk, it doesn’t strike me that much. ~ Moonstar - 8.5/10, I love this also, I prefer this one tho. This one feels right and just seems more like engaging ig?

— Jily - 8/10, very cute name. Jily is the og name and I love it but.. ~ Flowerpot - 9.5/10 i love this name SM better, it sounds more iconic and rare idk, Flowerpot does different stuff to me. Gives me more love and home-y vides which fit them sm

— Pandalily - 9/10, it’s reminds me of a sunny day with rain: the perfect mix of warm and cooling down. It’s so cute ‘panda’ and ‘lily’ is such a cute mix and I love it

— Marylily - 5.5/10, very cutey I love lesbians friends to lovers. It’s such a beautiful fun name and I think the ship dynamic changes my opinion but I still love it

— Marlily - 6.5/10, sound smooth, I get kinda confuse this with Marylily cause they look similar but they’re still both very cute, I still like this name.

— Dorlene - 5/10, love this ship sm but this name is so weird, it doesn’t spell, sound or look nice. Just gives me weird vibes idk. The ship >>> the name

— Jegulus - 3/10, sick ship, the most known name even though I very much dislike the name. This name doesn’t sound or look that nice, it’s just weird to me but.. ~ Sunseeker/Starchaser - 8/10, much better, more iconic, more unique, more interesting. I like this sm better. It’s also real cause James be down bad for his lovers and is definitely chasing them. I think I like Sunseeker better tho, like Regulus seeking out James and making him fall inlove with him, makes me feels thing

— Rosekiller - 8.5/10, very luck fits their vides it’s just so perfect and I love it. I think it is kinda basic because it’s been around so long, but I don’t think anything else can fit their relationship so well into a name

— Bartylus - 2/10, I don’t really like this shop but the name just makes it worse, it’s just sounds dirty and messy and idk how to describe it idk ~ Starkiller - 8/10, that’s such a better name and is savage asf. I don’t really like this ship but this name is amazing, I don’t why but this name reminds me of flames for no reason and I think it’s real fitting

— Sunkiller - 6/10, sick name, sounds like something that would be a bad guy name like deadpool or smth. Like damnn, this ship is growing my and I think this name is helping. It’s a sick name and it kinda fits their vides, Barty’s part of his ship names being ‘killer’ always fits, and this is another one that shows it so well

~ Darksun - 5.5/10, savage, reminds me of an ellipse or like an apocalypse movie idk why but I ain’t complaining

— Moonwater - 8/10, I don’t like this ship cause I prefer them to be platonic but it sounds good. It’s such a great and smooth name and it’s calming and I just like it. Reminds me of the moon reflecting on water and it look so pretty and I like it

ZFAW Fan Content Creator Interviews: HayleyNFoster

Hey everyone! We hope you’re all excited for ZFAW, and to honor (ha!) ZFAW’s commitment to supporting and celebrating fan content creators in the Zutara fandom, we’re going to be rolling out a series of interviews with well-known and widely-beloved content creators over the next few weeks. We’ve got artists and fanfiction authors, some names you recognize as well as a few phenomenal up-and-coming talents, and we can’t wait for you to meet them all!

For the second interview in this cycle, we have our best propaganda creator and this fandom’s hottest new artist/undisputed queen of the animatic, @hayleynfoster!

1. Tell us about how you came to ship Zutara. What does this ship mean to you?

When I was around 14 or 15 and caught Avatar: The Last Airbender on television, I was drawn in by the art style, the humor, and the wonderful characters. I caught the episodes out of order, and the first one I saw and wasn’t prepared to be sucked in by was The Waterbending Scroll. It intrigued me at that age, and the line “I’ll save you from the pirates” combined with the tension between Katara and Zuko in that whole scene was electrifying. I remember my teenage self thinking these two have so much chemistry! And when I saw a commercial on Nickelodeon that featured fanart submitted by fellow Avatar fans, I realized that I could do that to! So I set about making Zutara fanart for myself. I stumbled onto Youtube, practically in its infancy, and discovered that people set clips of Zuko and Katara set to music (And this was still in season 1 days… so people who made these amvs were the real mvps because they were able to make compelling narratives in their amvs with like practically nothing to work with!). The AMVs really spurred my interest in this couple, I remember distinctly one Zutara AMV using the Dido song White Flag utterly capturing my imagination. I found fandom shortly after, getting into deviantart and forums. But the ship really began to mean something to me when, as I was working on my drawings in the computer lab at school, a buoyant presence hovered over my shoulder noticing my Zutara art on the computer screen. The girl was someone I had never really talked to and had only seen from afar but she immediately started excitedly saying she shipped Zuko and Katara too! In this simple shared obsession, I made one of the best friends I’ve ever had and we’re still friends to this day. We would theorize and fangirl over Avatar like it was nobody’s business; we poured over bootleg San Diego Comic Con footage that showed spoilers for season 2 before it aired; we lost our freaking minds when we finally saw The Crossroads of Destiny. We had watch parties every week as Season 3 of A:TLA aired, and comforted each other when the show ended as it did (much ranting was shared). Those are some of my happiest memories from high school… all because this one pairing from this wonderful show. Even though Zutara didn’t happen, we still chat every now and then about it. Zutara will probably be a lifelong obsession, always bubbling under the surface. And without it, I would have never realized that animation was a viable career path. It really did inspire everything including the work I’m doing to this day in the animation industry. I owe a lot to this ship and to Avatar: the Last Airbender.

2. What inspires you to create zutara fanworks?

The resurgence of Avatar: The Last Airbender this year really helped sort of spark that dormant love I had for Zutara. The show’s ending still disappointed me on the rewatch, but Zuko and Katara’s relationship arc was as captivating as ever, so I turned to some fanfiction and looking at people’s pretty Zutara art and AMVs to just revel in fanon instead of getting to hung up on the actual ending of the show. But then I realized, with quarantine and my work load being pretty light, I had time to actually make all new Zutara art for myself, art I was never fully capable of making as a kid, but now could do with my 7 years of industry experience and just… life experience. And I was inspired to do some corrective animatics to satisfy my own desire for a different ending. I just really like exploring these two characters, doing different and interesting things with them, and frankly I’m inspired to make cute, fluffy, romantic art simply by virtue of living in a really sad and depressing world. Things are so crazy right now, creating art about two characters I love being in love, is comforting. And it helps to have inspiring music and amazing Zutara amvs to just sort of stir up my emotions and imagery in my head to make into animatics and art.

3. Be selfish - if you could request one fanwork based on your own art/fanfic, what would it be? What would you absolutely love to see someone create?

Ohhhh… Well, It’s always nice to have people write fanfiction that puts words to my animatics. I am not that great at coming up with dialog myself, so I’ve just chosen to indulge in visuals and emotions for my boards. But when I read things like RideBoldlyRide’s take on my Reunion Animatic, it makes me pretty giddy. (They finally have voices!) :) And this is the MOST selfish thing I could request, but I’m not shy about saying how much I love well done amvs, so I will literally kill for someone to make Zutara AMVs to songs I like… Like, most of AURORA’s songs but especially Exist for Love, Sunseeker by The Naked and Famous, Promises or Take Me by Aly & AJ, Adore You by Harry Styles, Human Enough by ONR, Never Let Me Go by Florence + The Machine, and/or Almost (Sweet Music) by Hozier just… I can see the AMVs so clearly to any of these songs in my head, but I don’t have the tools or skill set at my disposal to make a compelling fan video. When I was in high school, I originally thought I wanted to go into video editing simply because I loved making very crappy AMVs (they were so bad you guys), but I figured out being a storyboard artist was more in my wheelhouse. haha

4. Any words for people who are new to the fandom and/or nervous about sharing their work for the first time?

If you’re new to the Zutara fandom, just have a good time! Don’t waste too much time arguing with people over your shipping preferences. I wasted so much of my teen years having pointless shipping wars with people on DeviantArt, and I’m just so much happier nowadays because I’m just making Zutara art in my little corner of the internet, and honestly, in the politest of ways, I don’t give a shit if people don’t like my art or Zutara. haha I think that’s sort of a key thing for people thinking of posting creative works here in the fandom, just make art for yourself, satisfy your own desires for the pairing, get your creative sparks flying, and create just for the joy of creating. It’s always nice to get comments and such, but simply making the art should be what spurs you on, not the external validation. And have a good time, don’t worry too much - I say as someone who worries about EVERYTHING. But honestly, making art for A:TLA is some of the most relaxed I’ve been because I make it just for me. I’m lucky others seem to like it too!

5. What’s an idea for a fanwork that you have but haven't gotten around to making?

I have an idea for a second generation storyline with my Zutara kids that involves Kya (the eldest firebending daughter) falling in love with an airbender boy (tentatively named Gora in my headcanon who’s a bit of a rabble rouser and one of Aang’s kids he had with a Kyoshi Warrior), and then they start a socialist revolution in the Fire Nation in order to dismantle all of the hierarchical societies across the Avatar world… Together Kya and Gora Fan the Flames of revolution… ehhhhh... Get it?? Oh! Oh, and then Katara, who had put in legit liberal reforms in her time as Fire Lady listens to her daughter after resisting in the first part of the story, but then realizes she can actually play a part in the dissolution of the royalty and is also active in the revolution realizing that moderate liberal reforms are no substitute for a society free of serving royalty (which she had always been uncomfortable with but had rationalized with herself that she was doing good in her capacity as Fire Lady.) I just feel like there’s a lot of cool potential for discussing these ideas and also having some aspirational change in the Avatar world. lol For aesthetics and just happy fluffy times, I can indulge in Fire Lady and Fire Lord Zuko stuff, but really at the end of the day, I take issue with the structures in a society that have to exist for monarchies to exist. Soooo, I kind of want to do my own corrective story for that… if I ever have the time or guts. On a less ambitious note, I would love to do a Zutara sparring animatic to practice doing action, but I need a good story; I am not good at doing fights just for fighting’s sake. Those are just some things I have rattling around in my head.  

6. Are you participating in ZFAW? If so want to give us a hint as to your plans?

Yes! The most I can say is I have one animatic almost finished and one that’s still being thumbnailed. The rest are probably going to be comics or emotive single pieces based on the fanfics I really like right now. :)

[FFXIV] Under the Desert Sun II

Sasaraji had confidently led the way over to the Pits beneath the Gladiators’ Guild.  The Coliseum ring had it’s own fight under way but the Lalafell had steer them away towards one of the rougher corners.  K’yiala had accompanied the pair, insisting that she’d be far safer with them; that the merchant wouldn’t come back if she was with them.  Sasaraji had agreed and in the end Athala had conceded to allow her to tag along.

“If you want the best help, why aren’t we looking at the Coliseum?” K’yiala wondered.

Sasaraji spoken over his shoulder, just loud enough for them to hear without his voice carrying.  “Because the Coliseum is a peacock display.  Arena fighters that live for their reputations within the city’s competitions.  But if you want real fighters, combatants who’ve seen blood and fight with fire in their eyes, the Pits is the best place.” he explained, indicating the dimly lit sunken ring off to the left with a sizable crowd rallying around it.

In the Pit a Xaela with a greatsword was holding his ground against an axe wielding Roegadyn, a scimitar and shield Miqo’te, and a Duskwight lancer.  The Elezen and Miqo’te were attempting a pincer strategy while the Roegadyn took the brunt of the assault.  All four combatants were bleeding profusely and it was clearly from the tempo of the fight that the battle had been going on for several minutes, long by the usual Coliseum standards, save for the headliner matches that drew the large crowds.  Towards the back wall above the Pit fight, a table had been thrown together from a plank and two barrels where gil and collateral was being tossed around with a casualness reserved for the darkest alleyway dice games.

The Xaela and Roegadyn met weapons again before the Au Ra combatant peeled his swing through his parry, brought the blade back around his head pointed towards the dirt as he blocked the scimitar strike with it by a shift in his footing.  The maneuver simultaneously put him out of reach of the Elezen’s lance, rendering the thrust pointless.  “They call him, I hope I’m pronouncing this correctly, Dorēku.  It’s Doman vernacular I believe.  In any case, these are no slouches.  The Roegadyn is Titus from the Lominsan ship Dauntless.  Has an 80% win rate in the Pits as far as I know.  The Elezen is a former Twin Adder, dishonorable discharge from active service for his insubordination; if the rumors are accurate.  And the Miqo’te is K’takha Tia, one of the Hipparion tribes best hunters.  Got bored of being a Nunh and left or so I heard.” Sasaraji explained, a hand coming to his chin as he considered the fight and it’s possibilities; as if it were a chess game.

Titus took a strong swing forward.  Dorēku absolutely overpowered K’takha, pushing backwards with his quads and forcing the Miqo’te into the wall.  Dorēku stepped forward again, the winded Sunseeker no longer pinned to the wall dropping to his knees; the Au Ra brought the blade around to block the follow up strike from Titus.  The sword caught most of the axe but the pullback made a shallow cut along the upper arm as it did so.  He emitted a hiss of discomfort but little more, lunging forward with his shoulder pushing Titus back off his balance a bit.  The lancer attempted another thrust.  This one landed a gash along the upper thigh rather than a true piercing, but to his misfortune Dorēku pulled his blade around and locked it such that the Elezen couldn’t simply pull his weapon back.  They grunted as the struggle to interlock, and untangle respectively, the weapons ensued.  The move became a clear ploy as the Au Ra reared his head back and headbutted his opponent.  The Elezen wavered, the grip on his weapon weak before he toppled to the ground unconscious from the force of the hit.  K’takha now recovered lunged forward abandoning his weapons in order to tackle Dorēku from behind his knees.  The Au Ra managed to turn just enough that K’takha came from the side rather than the back.  Dorēku waivered but remained standing before bringing the swords pommel crashing into the space between K’takha’s shoulder blades.  The Miqo’te joined the Elezen on the Pit floor.

Down to Titus and Dorēku, the two took a moment sizing each other up again; the cheers and curses from the spectators now reaching a pinnacle as they gave their approval for the brawl.  Both shifted their grips, Dorēku adding a duelist flailing twirl, as the circled the arena.  Titus made the first move, bounding across the distance between them in a blink bringing his axe in a large spinning slash that -weapon aside - would not have been out of place on the ballroom floor of a formal banquet.  The Au Ra barely got his blade around the counter the strike, before the Roegadyn hooked the lower sweep behind the blade around Dorēku’s sword before ripping and throwing both their weapons to the side; turning the duel into a fist fight.  Dorēku brought his arms up just over his waist in a very relaxed and seemingly unprotected stance.  Titus brought the elbow up first, bashing it into the jawline, sending Dorēku reeling back into the wall.  Titus grinned, taking a step back and switching from a left handed stance to a right handed position.  The Au Ra recovered, glancing to the side and spitting on the ground, some blood mixed with the saliva.  He waited for a moment and the stutter a scuffing step, kicking up the dirt hit enough to be an irritant but not an honorless tactic.  He followed up by rushing in as Titus’s arms came up to defend his face, slipping underneath and landing a firm drive into the stomach.  He moved into the combination, feinting a left hook before following in with a right uppercut.  Titus staggered back with arms spinning out of their defensive posture for balance.  Dorēku stepped in and delivered another powerful left jab into a right cross.  A few more moments and Titus dropped to his knees, his eyes unfocused.  The Au Ra took a step closer judging whether or not to strike the Roegadyn again.  Satisfied with the semi-conscious display, he narrowed his eyes and spat again on the ground between them before giving the hulking man a firm push down into the dirt before moving to exit the Pit.

Sasaraji and the others waited for the rabid mass to disperse a bit before the Lalafell approached the gladiator.  Dorēku looked the trio over before querying the lot with solely his gaze, both haughty yet apprehensive.

“Eorzean?” Sasaraji asked simply.

“Broken.” Dorēku replied non-committally.

“Watashi no Doman o yurushitekudasai.” Sasaraji replied before continuing at a head nod from the Au Ra.  “Watashi no shitsumon ni iku mae ni, anata no namae wa nanidesu ka? Tashikani karera ga shiyō suru pitto no taitorude wa arimasen: Dorēku?”

“Karera wa, uroko no tame ni watashi o doragon to yobimasu. Anata wa watashi o Tokugawa Akira to yobu kamo shiremasen.” he replied.

Sasaraji bowed his head to the warrior.  “Aete ureshī yo. Watashinonamaeha Sasaraji Seserajidesu. Jinshin baibai no mondai ni tsuite nanika tasuke o motomete imasu. Tasukete kuremasu ka?”

Tokugawa took several minutes thinking carefully.  “Hai.” he replied nodding.

“Anata wa eozēn de karera ni hanasu tame ni watashi o yurushimasu.” Sasaraji turned back to Athala and K’yiala.  “This is Akira Tokugawa.  And he has agreed to aid us.”

We hv a heck of a day ahead of us today. It's one prior to our son moving out and toa temp apartment. It is a day prior to prophecy the movie the preamble will occur. Has been yes. Biden and Kamala are to deliver departing addresses today. Yes. We are to start several huge programs today yes. We shall say here yes one is airlines we begin to take them for real, food growing prep distribution we start yet in Ernest and yes the reason is the Ridgeline will be a war zone we remove airline equipment, food making equipment and growing, other factories for making necessities to many other consumer products and goods. Basically they shall war soon we take it all out of those areas shortly...today the actual start date. Now too. Huge day. We lost it internally. Yes. Further it begins a cycle in areas like Florida of change as the winds and storms change globally, it's time for rivers to clear of muck lakes harbors and algae to grow offshore canals to form flooding to reduce and all but cease from here on. Weather will change to be more mild. Muck Will clear places like sunseeker shall thrive. Fishing Will rebound. Other economies will grow and recover. Large sea life Will be kept offshore boat and ship building will become massive. Alternative energy to oil will become a staple. Diamond and ship pulling Will be normal. And predominant. The ocean will be teaming with military vessels too yes. Those in the way of manufacturing Will be crushed in large part by us. We will consume factories as you s abandon them in the coming three months. Due to infighting. We take over middle areas fully. The kick off, today. It starts today yes...the handing over if the factories and middle areas, in Ernest yes it's the change of season. The year yup. It is also the start of a new motif by the Mac proper and they will change up what's happening and the warlock will be engaged shortly. It does have to do with the Earth's calendar and he's going to look it up and he'll see and it is a big change.

And we do have Thanksgiving approaching it is another Hallmark and a big day 10 days after today and it's a significant number of days in the significant number. It all has some significant meaning and people will look it up. But it is the beginning of that phase of the entire project for us and the Mac proper foreigners as well and it is a dance if you will and it's for plan of the warlock 2 and they don't let alone they say which is really wrong it is going to be the end of them one way to tell is that the death Star expends a lot of energy and seen in the movie doing the aftermath of delivering its solid waste partially to Earth very illegal maneuver and I'm sure that they suffer. We have a lot of work to do and we're getting ready and we will have safeties in place and we have to move it it looks like that object makes it to Earth it's not really that close. Now we have some news we're going to post but this is a gigantic day today and we're going to post why and what the day is on the calendar and the Gregorian calendar
