#SPN did something unique by writing the kind of epic slowburn romance subplot we love to see in fantasy/sci-fi - but queer

#THIS #people keep missing (one has to think it must be deliberate in some cases) critical details like #it wasn't a 'coming out of the closet' scene #it was a love confession #and remind me... How many of those did we see on Supernatural? #*eyebrow raise* #Berens staying on to write it. Does anyone think it was a spur of the moment thing that hadn't even crossed their minds before? #the fact that there was no press for Dabb or Berens or Misha after the episode? that's normal right? means nothing probably >:/ #the fact that if anyone on set had raised any objections about the scene it would have been dropped #(and Jensen was asking people to film it) #etc #goddammit that scene (and others before it) were fought for. were hard won. were steps other shows are using now bc that's how it works #putting down one win doesn't make another one better or bigger. it just makes any future ones more difficult and less likely (via @ironworked)
It’s one thing to appreciate it when you see media take another leap forward.
It’s another to be so invalidating towards a show that had to queer code it and didn’t get a more open level of representation greenlit.
Reminder that SPN started in 2005 and how absolutely remarkable it is how far they were able to take things in later seasons. People really really DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE CEILING THAT GOT SMASHED AT SPN.
No. No you don’t get it. You really really don’t.
People don’t even want to listen to Misha about this. Misha was amazed that they got away with filming and airing that confession scene at all. “You mean we can do that???”
There are people at SPN who had to care, to get that to happen. NO IT WASN’T JUST MISHA.
QUIT ERASING THE PEOPLE WHO TOLD THE DESTIEL STORY IN QUEER CODING FOR YEARS.
QUIT ERASING THE BI DEAN CODING WHICH EXISTS WHETHER DESTIEL OR NOT DESTIEL.
THE ERASURE HAS TO STOP.
