Otis responds without thought, without consideration and without hesitation. It’s an immediately answer- a reflex, as if his mind was already made up long before Rei had asked the question.

“I do.”

There was no flair, not an ounce of drama. Plain and simple, his belief was just this:

“Anyone can be a good person. As long as they try.” He says with sincerity, before shrugging off the moment in a lax sort of way. “‘Course, this doesn’t give them a get out of consequences free card, nor does it mean they’ll be forgiven for anything they’ve done, but... If they’re trying, then I believe they can. It’s as simple as that.”

It wasn’t a complicated belief- but in a world of Demons and Gods, of Murderers and Villains, of Grand Evil looming just out of view-- one may have expected something a little more...nuanced? However, Otis is a simple man at his core. If you want to learn to draw, it’s never too late to start. You’ll get good eventually. If you want to learn to sing, it’s never too late to try. You’ll get there in time. If you want to be a better person, well- the best time to start was yesterday, and the second best time is today. You can make it.

If, just for example, you wanted to be a better father- then (so he liked to believe) - there would be time for that, too.
