quick rules updates/blog organizing

I did some blog housekeeping today as I've been taking a little breather from my convention activities~

I added a few silly rp specific tags for castmates and this blog's Shitpost Lore TM. They're in the pinned now.

I also updated a few of my rules. To summarize:

Most important one: since I've been writing more about Artemis' backstory lately, I've revised the tw list on this blog to include domestic violence and past csa. Artemis is a csa survivor. I had intended to be fairly vague about that on this blog since it's such a commonly intense trigger for people (and I probably still will be), but unexpectedly a bunch of you have actually shown interest in learning more about this obscure little man?? Which is delightful to me, but now I want to warn more thoroughly about what's really going on with him, particularly if you guys wanna read any of the books :') I love you, thank you for your enthusiasm and be safe.

In practice, I've tended to flop between just regular text or -1 text in threads just mirroring whatever my partner is using, so I made a note about that as a stylistic choice. I think I'm also just gonna go Fuck It and start writing OOC and headcanon posts in regular text too from now on because it drives me nuts how often I switch on that front LMAO

Since the Legend of Drizzt fandom on tumblr is so small and chill, I don't mind if non-rp blogs follow me or even chat with me in ims or on out of character posts about the series. My only request is that you don't reblog any of my rp threads because it just messes up notifications for me and my writing partner. Other than that… I love you, tiny Drizzt fandom. I am reaching out to cup you gently in my palm lol

I've been trying to get to some actual drafts today too but we'll see. I've at least been rereading them and hehehe... I am writing with such talented people <3 Stay rad.

Current obsession: lads i picked up homeland at a secondhand store last summer and the legend of drizzt Current Obsession hit. no survivors. i was already pretty into dnd lore(and drow lore), and our campaign is waterdeep dragonheist so i think the setting of the forgotten realms + that all just fed into eachother. now everytime we see jarlaxle in the campaign i lose my mind

5) character you were most surprised to end up writing

hmmmMMM i don’t really know! i will say i didn’t expect to start shipping taagnus (and therefore writing more of magnus) at all which is funny considering that’s what my first fic is lol. i also was nervous about writing merle at all in the latest synecdoche chapter because i feel like i do not have a handle on his voice at all, but surprisingly it worked out

18) were there any works you read that affected you so much that it influenced your writing style? what were they?

in this fandom specifically, i always go back to this one fic, Deflection to the Relative Major, when i need a reminder of the kinds of things i want to write and especially how i want to write Kravitz as a character. more recently there’s And The Warmth Will Never Die, which didn’t so much influence my writing style so much as leave me angrily going “wtf??? i wanna do that!!! how did you do that!!!!” and send me into a fugue state for the rest of the day cause it’s so good. i can’t write a nonlinear narrative to save my life and they just DID THAT. and finally, all of @wildgoosery‘s work is infinitely inspirational on a craft level, she’s truly a master

in terms of non-fanfic work - i’ll always credit the Legend of Drizzt series, the Dragonlance series, and Good Omens with making me a writer at all. Also the show Flight of the Conchords (as well as good omens actually) with the entirety of my sense of humor/irony. consume all of this media if you want to understand me better as a person!

19) when it comes to more complicated narratives, how do you keep track of outlines, characters, development, timeline, etc.?

it’s a mess lmao. i do outline, but im inconsistent in how i do it and how often - lately im not writing anything terribly complicated narratively so i can keep the timeline in my head, but when it comes to my original writing...... i come back to it every few months and go ?????? and close the document lmao. other than outlines i have dozens of scattered notes on my phone, which of course are lost to the void every time i break a phone but now im using Google Keep so it SHOULD back things up!

Personal renaissance

So 7 years ago i read Star wars: Vector prime and loved it. Seeing the solo kids as teens, chewie’s death, learning about the yuuzang vong, loved it! It gave me a little bit of extra fun in that it was revealed the yuuzang vong were infiltrating the republic back before Palpatine’s rise to power and there are instances of this infiltration in the timeline if you look for them. IE; the mysterious hostile aliens from Star wars: Rogue planet. But i didnt continue with the new jedi order series after that, mostly because my school library didnt have the others so i just left it.

Now, 3 years ago my father shows up witha big box of old books and you know what was inside? Every New jedi order novel. I got alot of other books in there too, the first 16 legend of Drizzt books to name a mentionable few. But now i am finaly reading Star wars: Dark tide onslaught. And only one chapter in and i already feel like im in a better place. Happier now!
