oh boy here we go ^^'
I don’t think it was a smart idea for baekhyun’s image. being the ambassador for a banking company is so far out of the scope of what a kpop idol should involve themself in like ofc this kind of endorsement is gonna impact his credibility & reputation. I don’t wanna be like “oh I saw it coming..” but you can’t tell me that all the SM ppl who work in marketing and pr couldn’t foresee this type of outcome as a possibility. it opens him up to a certain kind of scrutiny that's really hard to counter
I also think that the fact that it's a foreign company isn’t doing him any favors. it would've been one thing if he'd endorsed a domestic company but promoting a service that he so clearly has no personal experience with.. it comes across even more unauthentic. like I know that in the realm of celebrity endorsements, rarely does the celebrity actually uses the product/service they're promoting. but bc we're talking abt a banking service the stakes are much higher than just some skincare lotion not performing on someone's skin. or fried chicken not being the most healthy food
I don't know anything abt the Indonesian legislation but I do think that morally at least, he's imparted himself with a degree of responsability. you can't just go around being the face of a bank, promoting it to your hundreds of thousands of fans, and assume no financial liability. when baekhyun knows that he has ppl of all ages looking up to him too.. seriously idk wtf he was thinking
as a consummer, I also have my own personal reservations ; not only abt digital banking in general but abt the company itself, from what little stuff I've seen from it.. maybe there is a bit of a cultural divide there bc this kind of advertisement would come across as... uncouth? somewhat improper? here. it's a bit hard to put into words but it kinda leaves a sour taste in my mouth, I don't like it at all if I'm being honest
for his sake, I really hope that allobank is an upright service, that everyone is satisfied, and that nothing more comes out of this but even so, I don’t think it was a decision made with baekhyun’s best interest in mind. I wish he would’ve been better advised or better yet, had the sense to decline the offer himself but oh well
