Okie so I had another smg4 dream that I drew sketches for cause holy crap. In a nutshell, it was a messed up among us/guess who game show.

Before i talk about it, I’d like y’all to appreciate Melony’s heart patch with Axol ;-;

So the dream started out simple, the smg4 crew were hanging out in the new castle but then smg4 and melony noticed something outside of the window. 4 started to frantic and said to hit it with everything and the crew did this with no questions asked, throwing bob-ombs, guns, frickin tanks, eggdog, power ups, furniture but it wasn’t enough and whatever was outside of the window broke free with a flash of light fading to white. Mario and Luigi woke up in a tainted colored glass dome. Outside of the dome was their castle but looked more like a circus tent. On the otherside was the rest of the crew in a play set box with them as dolls, and their castle on top as if it was a dollhouse. An unseen announcer welcomed the brothers into the game show. Mario was in amazement because he didn’t realize his friends in danger and just heard a game show but Luigi kept asking questions. That’s when a snap of the fingers and the game started. The first game was a among us(I kid you not) but in each game sequence, the bros would have their memory wiped to throw them off that they were trapped. So anyways, Luigi was doing his tasks but then melony came over and shook Luigi by the shoulders yelling at him that they were in danger and he needed to get out of here. Melody glitched out of existence and the announcer apologized for that game error. So he went on to do his tasks. He started looking for Mario and found him locked in the bathroom cause he said he didn’t want the imposter to find him. So Luigi had to drag him out but when he came in, the door was a metal door and locked them both in. Mario took this as a chance to tell Luigi about what was happening, about the gameshow trap, about whatever was out there but the imposter was banging on the door with an alternate’s corrupted voice of one of the smg characters. The game restarted and the bros had their memory wiped again.

The game started with them in a hospital, it was more like a modern day murder mystery but more happier(like had some kidcore themes here and there) and each of the characters as doctors or nurses, they were trying to find a missing patient but also a fraud doctor in their midst. So Mario started looking for the patient and found Meggy, she was a doctor there and didn’t give any information about the trap but when she spoke, all she repeated “Hows it going Mario?” getting Mario confused and scared until she glitched out of the game, followed by an apology. Mario was confused and ran off to find his brother because he started to remember about what happened the last game, that this isn’t what it seemed. He started searching rooms, slamming doors and such until he reached a room with Meggy on a hospital table, strapped down with her eyes huge black pupils, a smile and the repeated phrase. Mario rushed over to help her but she grabbed his arm, snapped out of it and started to panic and just said in a pained voice “help me”. Mario looked over at her stomach with rainbow strand gummies and star candies sticking out of her stomach. Mario backed up in fear for his friend but the announcer said “sorry folks, we’re experiencing an error..again” making the whole room all static-y until Mario was just in an empty room. Mario started to panic and call for Meggy, 4, 3, anyone that he knew until he heard footsteps coming from behind him. He slowly turned with an ominous sfx playing until it cut to black. The announcer continued on with the game with Luigi and the rest of the crew left. This game they were at a fishing dock, all fishermen but there was a disguised siren in their midst(yes these were all murder mystery or who’s what games) So Luigi started to question Bob and Boopkins and Bob tried to blame Boopkins to get him kicked out but he started defending himself. That’s when Luigi heard a voice in the water.

Luigi wanted to investigate and dragged the other two to prove their innocence and they took a boat out to find the voice. It sounded like a little girl’s voice in distress. They looked around the water and Luigi jumped in the water to find the girl and landed in the black void Mario was in earlier. He started to call out for the girl. He found the girl and she said “You found me! Yay!!” and giggling. Luigi couldn’t see her but only a silhouette of the girl in a distance. She started to walk over but every step she took she grew new limbs or her body became disfigured until she glitched out, and was replaced with Mr L, doing the same thing. Then it kept glitching characters in and out until the figure came in sight for Luigi. It was Goo-uigi but with that flesh stuff still in him. Goo-uigi spoke with multiple voices of people overlapping and saying “You completed the game. Congratulations! Was trial and error perfecting it but this means you are perfect.” Luigi started to remember everything about before, especially about the flash of light. It was the flesh from the treasure city dream. It dragged them to the game for the fun of it, and to make up for the last time they all escaped a good going show.(YES HE IMPLIED THAT IT WAS THAT TV BRAND FROM WESTERN SPAGHETTI) Apparently, the tv brand gave an opportunity for the flesh to start it’s show, to get back at them, while the tv brand did the same. Luigi knew he needed to leave and tried running but was running in place. Goo-uigi appeared behind him in a second, pushed him to the ground, into a pool of water, started to wring his neck/ water boarded him. As Luigi struggled, the setting was glitching out into different places while goo-uigi was saying that this could’ve been a thriving perfect show. But if none of them could be perfect, then they didn’t deserve to leave, perfect or imperfect at all. Luigi got a flash of images of his friends, the castle, happy or chaotic memories he had with them. Luigi had to rip the flesh out with a bunch of images of memories flashing in his head, and started to feel nauseous from the flashing memories and glitching background. He grabbed the huge chunk of the purple/pink flesh in goo-uigi’s chest and pulled it out with a screech from Goo and the squiggly flesh as if it was alive, making everything flash faster. UNTIL IN A FLASH I WOKE UP, AND I TRIED TO FALL ASLEEP AGAIN TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED AFTER BUT MY ALARM WENT OFF THE SAME TIME

People stick their heads into r/stlouis, over on Reddit, every couple of weeks to say that they're coming to St. Louis to visit family, to go to school, for work, or whatever and ask, "will I be safe?"

Let's say you're at a party, and two people you kinda sorta know show up, one looks about 13, the other maybe closer to 19, both packing AR-15s that have been converted into submachine guns. Do you think to yourself, "Enh, they're probably just showing off, I'm sure it'll be fine, it's a fun party, I don't want to leave yet"? If so, St. Louis isn't safe for you.

Because, yeah, we have an above-average homicide rate. We're a town full of gunslingers, because the Missouri legislature routinely shuts down any attempt to, say, keep SMGs out of the hands of 13 year-olds because those measures might inconvenience "law-abiding gun owners" (gunslingers who haven't shot anybody yet).

But if you subtract out gunslingers shooting each other in gunfights, and the friends of gunslingers who went down in the crossfire? St. Louis's homicide rate isn't any higher than anywhere else, it's nearly all personal like domestic violence cases, same as anywhere else. So as long as you have the minimal self-preservation to nope the heck out of there when gunslingers show up to the same party as you, you're as safe here as you are anywhere else.

Death Battle: Grif & Simmons vs Lister & Rimmer; Who I think would win.

So, the polls are in for Grif and Simmon vs Lister and Rimmer, actually I've pre-written this so until yesterday I did not know who everybody voted for, (Though I had an idea).

With the polls now being in, I wanted to share my own opinions on this battle, because this was genuinely a really fun thing to think about, I'm a huge fan of both Red Dwarf and Red vs Blue, so digging into my memories of both and thinking about their strengths, weaknesses, arsenals, tactics and defenses was a lot of fun, however, in the end one duo had to die, and I think the winners of this battle would be...

Lister and Rimmer

"But Vaudevilledemon!' I hear some of you wanting to say, 'Grif and Simmons have actual military training, military grade weapons and armour, and have accomplished so much more than Lister and Rimmer, two normal ass looking dudes who have mining equipment."

So, let's talk about that, because the reasons I think Lister and Rimmer would win, kind of boil down to similar arguments, but let's take a look at each point separately.

1. Training Grif and Simmons have actual military training, whereas Rimmer's only experience in the military was a re-enactment society and temporarily commanding over wax-droid versions of Einstein, Stan Laurel, Elvis, Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Queen Victoria, Jean-Paul Sartre, Noel Coward, Santa Claus, Pythagoras, Abraham Lincoln, Marilyn Monroe, Pope Gregory, St. Francis of Assisi and the Dalai Lama... Red Dwarf could get weird.

However, it's worth remembering that the entire reason Grif and Simmons were part of the Blood Gulch Simulation was entirely because they sucked. Simmons was too much of a coward and Grif was too anti-authoritarian, so they were picked by Agent Florida, alongside Sarge, to be part of the plan to protect the Alpha A.I. in Blood Gulch, so they're training doesn't really amount to all that much, but training doesn't mean much if you have better weapons, but do Grif and Simmons have better weapons?

2. Weapons Grif and Simmons have standard battle rifles and Magnums, alongside SMGs, and a few other weapons they picked up and have lost, like Grif's Brute Shot and Suppressor, or Simmons Rocket Launcher. However, most, if not all, of these weapons have a limited ammo supply, which they have drained through pretty quickly. "Hey Grif, you remember that one bullet you have left? I just thought of the perfect use for it."

On the other hand, Lister and Rimmer have Bazookoids, mining equipment intended to blow apart rocks, and can fire plasma blasts. These devices do not eat up their power supply as fast, and have a heat seeking mode, useful for finding heat emitting resources, or hitting a spot multiple times. Plus, let's not forget that the Red Dwarf has crates of explosives, it is a ship under the Jupiter Mining Corporation (JMC) after all, and the Boys from the Dwarf have found several pieces of technological advancements over the years, including several forms of teleportation and time travel, a matter destabilizing gun, a triplicator, a DNA resequencer, and a bio-printer.

Even if we gave Grif his confiscated weapons, and Simmons the rocket launcher, Lister and Rimmer do have a slightly better, or at least a more varied, arsenal. But Arsenal doesn't matter if they can't get past their armour, and here is the big sticking point in Lister and Rimmer's favour.

3. Armour So, Grif and Simmons have military grade armour, which is great, and gives them an advantage over Lister, who has no armour. So, it is possible for either Grif or Simmons to get a lucky hit on Lister, and Rimmer is already dead, but a hologram.

Now, Rimmer has three stages of Hologram, soft light, hard light and diamond light. Soft Light is intangible and has no real physical presence outside of the light bee, hard light has more physical properties, plus is virtually indestructible, and Diamond light is (all information coming from Tongue Tied - The Red Dwarf Fandom Site) super-powered, with abilities like Super strength, super-speed, light manipulation and the ability to make anything he touches intangible or solid at will.

So, with his hard light form, Grif and Simmons have a slim chance of taking out Rimmer, and with Diamond Light, they'd have zero chance. Even if we assume that bullets can penetrate hard light and damage Rimmer's Light Bee (Like what happened to Ace Rimmer in Stoke Me a Clipper), the amount of time it would take for him to properly die, would be more than enough time for him to deal a fatal blow to Grif and Simmons, especially since their armour isn't completely durable, like when one sticky grenade to the face almost killed Donut.

Remember, it took a long time for the alternate universe Ace Rimmer to fully die in that episode, so it’s entirely reasonable that our Rimmer would take a similarly long time.

And about all those accomplishments

5. Feats and accomplishments Yeah so, Grif and Simmons have done a lot of massive stuff, like fighting against the Meta, saving a planet from a corporation's attempt to eradicate all its inhabitants, and something to do with Time A.I. and Shisno paradoxes, I dunno, I liked Singularity but the rest of the arc was... meh. Anyway, it is clear Grif and Simmons have some major feats under their belts, it's just that those belts are also wrapped around everyone else.

Grif and Simmons often share their feats with the other Reds and Blues, like Donut, Sarge, Lopez, Caboose, Tucker and let's not forget the real heavy lifters, Carolina and Washington.

Lister and Rimmer are kind of similar in that regard, plenty of great feats, such as defeating the Inqusitor, plugging a white hole by playing pool with planets, destroying a rogue simulant ship and literally giving the universe an existential crisis, yes that happened, but they also share these feats with Cat, Kryten... and that's usually about it.

Let me put it this way, assuming that they are all doing equal lifting, Lister and Rimmer would be doing a quarter of the work while Grif and Simmons would only be doing about a ninth, and that is being really generous with the numbers. We can argue more specific numbers, but it doesn’t matter the specifics when Lister and Rimmer share the work amongst less people.

6. Ways that Grif and Simmons could win However, there are ways that Grif and Simmons could likely take the victory, so let's run through them and counter them.

A) Hacking into Rimmer's light bee and shutting him off - Simmons could potentially do this, but it would mean getting access to a terminal, which has direct access to Rimmer's hologram projection unit, most likely the Hologram Projection Suite, and on a ship the size of a city, the chances of Simmons just happening upon the floor or terminal to shut Rimmer off is low, unless he had a dose of the luck virus, but that's a Red Dwarf thing.

B) Waiting for Rimmer's battery to drain - Once he's out of power he's vulnerable, but we don't know exactly how long Rimmer's battery lasts, or if it can even die while on board the Red Dwarf.

C) Blow up the Red Dwarf - So, the Red Dwarf has been blown up before, the improperly wired Triplicator caused the ship to blow up, however, the Red Dwarf itself has no self-destruct bomb, so the only way for them to blow up the whole ship is to utilize the on board explosives, which is not foolproof as Lister and Rimmer are clever and could hide the explosives, or even plan a trap around them.

So, while I’m not one-hundred percent on Grif and Simmons taking the victory, I can still see them taking a few victories, but I think the Boys from the Dwarf would take more thanks to their craftiness and Arnold’s hologramatic status.

That really is the crux of these arguments, it’s not “Who would win one hundred percent of the time?”, it’s “Who would win most of the times?”. If you run one battle a hundred times, both sides will win at least once. So, I can see why most people voted for Grif & Simmons... even if I’m fairly certain most of them voted because they’re shipping trash (No judgement there), but for my money, I have to pick the crafty, hard to pin and much more clever smeg-heads from space, David Lister and Arnold Rimmer.

However, whether we think Grimmons would win or Listold would win, we can all agree... Venom vs Bane was a terrible match-up, right?

This was fun, I think I’ll do this again sometime.

James Washington

"I regret nothing"

James Alex Wesley Washington, born as Yakob Arvo Viktor with adopted surname of is a prolific killer for hire and friend of Jeremiah Yellowstone. He the is main protagonist of Operation: Godkiller. He is a fan of close combat ,he often goes completely berzerk and is pretty much insane to the point of doing rampages for sheer fun of it.

Background

James was born around early 2000's in St. Petersburg, Russia. Throughout his early childhood he tend to be really emotional and trying to understand his early friends: Mikhail, Ilya and Vadim. His "original" family from russia was made of various families and people related to armed forces, old soviet workers and law enforcement units. Most notable are Igor Tokarev, Afghan, Yuri Kamyenskyi, Sasha Stechkin, Vadim Gurkyevich, Ilya Shpagin and Anatolyi Makarov. He got adopted later on by Washington family and was brought to Coney Island, New York City.

He was growing up nearly alone, besides Debbie, his adopted sister and some of his neighbours who would visit them from time to time. With time slowly going by, James learn english and started to reveal his psychopathy.

Around 2nd grade, he met his school rival, Ola and started to trying to win against her in a drawing contest. Soon it went from rival to friend, after Ola saved him from being hit by a van. James also was seeing Ola's second nature when she has beaten their school bullies and one of them got a broken arm.

Around this time, James also met his future partner-in-crime and friend, Jeremiah, at the local junkyard when he was scavenging parts for his motorcycle. Jeremiah's parents tend to be of military background, and they knew about James's adoptive parents from meeting them on few occasions on neighbourhood gatherings

When their old bullies tried to confront them again (this time to be seen just as mildly annoying), one of them pulled a gun and tried to aim at James. Right before that vandal could fire, Ola shot from her own pistol next to him as a warning to not approach them. Sarah, Buck and Stacey, their bullies, stood in shock as they've heard Ola's threats and seeing her sadistic smile along with her now showing some knowledge about gun handling.

Later on, as Ola and Jeremiah started teaching James how to use a gun in self-defence, James started to show his craziness. Around that time, Ola revealed to James, that she developed a crush on him through years. Before their relationship can go even further, Ola gets shot in a drive-by and dies bleeding out in James's arms. Along with her parents dead and Ola's class mourning over her, James swears to get his revenge and find killers of his loved one.

During one occasion in russian bar "Potemkin", he meets a man known as Oligarch, a son of russian mafia boss on whose turf drive-by occured. By helping James with his weapon training along with teaching him about gangs and organized crime group in NYC, James later gets sent to get his revenge and learns of the "Gray Streets" pact. Before his near death after his avenging of Ola and others dying from group called "The Collectors", he gets saved by Jeremiah and James notices his lack of emotions when killing reinforcements sent to The Collectors hideout.

As the night falls, they both go to a gas station and become partners for their next adventures... and eventually rising body count...

2. Overview

James from two main characters is the one focused on closer and more "personal" approach and his style is more designed with things like shotguns, smg's and machine guns. James has several unique traits to help him out during combat and gameplay:

-Dual wielding: Dual wield two sidearms or meele weapons, later involves into dual wielded primary weapons

-Rage mode: Gets nullified damage and extreme damage, movement and agility bonus

-Masochistic: Some damage gets nullified or turned into small dose of health

-Explosive temper: Big chance for critical hits and exhausting some of enemies along with better withstanding of various hits

-Cannibalistic: Can eat enemy's corpse (or remains) to gain some health, ammo and some money

James has several bikes at his disposal, but he can drive cars, boats and some other vehicles just right. Not as good as Jeremiah though.

3. Appearance and personality

James is light-brownish, average-sized god resembling european wolfs or hunting dogs from europe. Color of his irises is dark green akin to emerald. While not visible, he has cutting marks and scars on his hands. A mover visible slashing scar is around a groin on a right leg. He speaks with fairly audible russian accent. He also is really muscular, since he has a fourpack and his skin states to be hard to touch. It comes from both physical work on vehicles and carrying heavy weight weapons.

He tends to be seen in yellow hoodie with old soviet navy tank top (telnyashka) under it, old worn out black tracksuit with three gray stripes and red-white running shoes. During few chapters in a first comic he is seen wearing additionally ushanka, old sweater, wool scarf and full leather gloves.

James can be seen in various old soviet clothes like afghanka, budenovka with a NIN logo on it's front, stalinka with various pins on it's pockets, white valenki and gymnastyorka used as ceremonial outfit. There is even more clothes James has and they can be seen in various concept sketches.

There is few moments when James only in his underwear is seen. They are dark yellow boxer shorts with noticeable traces of bodily fluids, and it has a small J on the left side to the crotch. There is few briefs and swim trunks seen inside a wardrobe in bedroom of James.

James implies (and sometimes shows), that he usually does not wear any underwear due to his mental degradation and insanity. There is also few scenes where he is completely naked, but his private parts are not shown.

James is usually a fairly, but a little excentric person if met during a normal state. He is loyal, understanding and can't be scared so easy due to his madness and anger. He is brutal and aggresive during combat and he even tends to go as far as eating fallen enemies in his fury. He is also pretty much a degenerate with no bounds and he tends to take someone out with himself if necessary, neither when humilating or when executing. He also tends to try be charming when he has a crush on someone, but it tends to make him look innocent and cute since James tends to avoid sexual and private topics making him look like a angsty teenager.

There is some evidence suggesting, that James was born to a descendant of cossacks and a white guard. His old gymnastyorka was his biological mother's parting gift and it is a relic carried from one family member to another as a tradition.

James does not like drugs and alcohol, since he always thought that the idea of having fun was to just hangout with a friend or family and idea of drinking and taking narcotics just because it's popular or seen as cool was always baffling.

James also has seen his experience and understanding of how children, teens and some mentaly ill would think and it makes him understand their views, opinions and their understanding of the world.

There is implications, that James might have autism or at least be somewhere on the spectrum. It is later on revealed, that he might have ADHD or aspergers. Jeremiah mentions that James is "slow in the head" so him having autism wouldn't be suprising.

His favourite music genres are rock, metal and electro. He has several CD's seen in his room and there is few bands or parodies of their album covers can be seen:

James also knows how to play on several instruments, but the ones that he mastered the most are keyboard, guitar and piano. He also has noticeable singing skills and uses breakdance for his combat.

4. Behind the scenes

James was mainly inspired by Trevor Phillips from Grand Theft Auto 5 and Frank Castle from The Punisher movie.

Is usually joked that James might be have a "shit fetish". Especially those jokes are made by Jeremiah and Debbie that know him the most. This is also suggested when few times in the comics, some were shocked to see what James has saved in the gallery (under "do not open 18+" folder too) and they often said things related to this kink. But whenever or not this is true, it depends on a reader.

In "Mad State", "Days Gone By" and "Journey To The Afterlife", James can be seen hallucinating a lot of things. It can be explained by his mental breakdown, blood loss or his brain injury sustained from a car crash during a pursuit or being hit really hard on his head. It can also be all of them having impact on his psyche.

There was a idea of a Helluva Boss ARG, where Loona is slowly going insane and is haunted by James after she got him into a coma and entire Helluva Boss cast was getting more and more paranoid and terrified of James. Ending was supposed to be a nightmare based on the famous ending of Spec Ops: The Line, where it was revealed that James was actually dead and Loona imagined him due to her slowly losing her sanity. This actually got reworked into "Obsession", where Loona has gone insane and wants to find out what happened to James and what are his origins.

Although, he is seen using his right arm most of the time, James is actually left-handed. He explains, that he does it to train his dual wielding and to make himself less stand out if he was ever recorded.

His both english and original russian names come from several characters, both fictional and real:

-James comes from his original name, Yakob (Yakob can be translated to Jacob, a familiar name to James)

-Victor is both a nod to Victor Reznov from Call of Duty series and Viktor Tsoi, a russian musician. Both Viktor and James have skills on playing guitars.

-Wesley comes from the protagonist of the movie Wanted, which comics draw inspirations from. Wesley is also in-universe equivalent of Webley revolver line-up.

-Arvo tends to be from Estonia, but it was gave to him as later is revealed to be from one of the friend of his biological parents (Arvo Poli Yaga).

-Alex might have come from Alex D, a protagonist of Deus Ex: Invincible War. This game has nostalgic value and it had some inspirations for several outfits. There is several outfits and haircuts which make James resemble Alex D.

Originally James was supposed to be from Moscow, but it was changed to be from St. Petersburg.

James can be heard swearing and speaking in russian, but he also knows some basics of ukranian, since he used to be friends with several ukrainians. It's also stated that he is descended from ukrainian nobles and russian cossacks.

I'm stealing the term Raifu's now.

Now this is how you propose to someone with an Oath Ring.

Well, an improvised one.

16 watches with great amusement as her S/O tosses a grenade over their cover, putting the pin between her slender hands.

(S/O) "16, will you be with me?"

The explosion that shortly followed doesn't even faze her.

16 laughs as her hands enclose around her S/O's.

(RPK-16) "My, it seems love truly can bloom in a battlefield. Proposing to me in such an unconventional way, I do wonder if our relationship will be like this? Let's find out together, shall we?"

(S/O) "STAR, I love you."

(ST AR-15) "They're closing in on us, toss it no-...Wait, what?!"

STAR is blindsided by her S/O's words, only now processing what they said.

She keeps her mind focused on the firefight but is still thrown for a loop.

(ST AR-15) "Is now really the best time for this?!"

S/O tosses the grenade over, grabbing her hand and putting the pin over them. The explosion almost drowned out their question, but she was able to read their lips.

(S/O) "Will you marry me, STAR?"

(ST AR-15) "I-IS NOW REALLY THE BEST TIME?!"

She is completely flustered, half thinking this was some kind of hallucination despite her training preventing this kind of hysteria.

(ST AR-15) "Ask me that again when there isn't any bullets flying past us!"

STAR didn't think it was possible to be romantically unprepared in a firefight. Maybe she should ask the Commander if this is what humans do.

Damn it, WA was a sniper, not some infantry grunt like the AR's or SMG's!

She doesn't have time to wonder how the enemy got so close, instead scoping in and dropping every single enemy that came under her crosshair.

S/O tosses a grenade which makes her duck.

It's then she realizes they have the pin in their hands.

(WA2000) "Why are you still holding onto that, get your gun out already!"

(S/O) "WA, I know this isn't an oath ring, but will you marry me?"

(WA2000) "...W-WHAT?!"

WA2000 is about ready to slap S/O for asking that question on the damn battlefield.

She steadies her hands as she gets back up to engage the enemy.

S/O was such a moron, asking that. Why couldn't have it been asked over something nicer? This was far from what she had in mind if they asked...Not that they'd ever get to know, she'd rather a bullet take out her memory core.

A well-travelled MAS 38 prototype

Recently I got the chance to examine and photograph this French submachine gun, which has a very interesting provenance.

Although it appears at first glance to be a standard MAS 38 submachine gun, the standard French service SMG of the 1940s and 50s, it’s actually marked Type SE-MAS 1935 F 1537. This denotes that it was an earlier trials model of the MAS 38 that was produced before its official adoption in 1938. It was selected for service in favour of the Thompson, MP 28,II, and Type ETVS submachine guns, but was not issued in any significant quantities before the German invasion of France in 1940, and during World War II it was predominantly only issued to internal Vichy forces.

This example of the SE-MAS 35, however, appears to have travelled across several different countries in just the first year of the war. The wooden buttstock is marked with several different locations that its owner seems to have passed through, taking this gun with him. The first is “Dęblin”, which is a town in Poland that, in 1939, housed both an an ammunition depot, and an air force training school. Additionally, the Main Arms Warehouse No.2 was located just 8km outside of Dęblin, which provides a probable location of origin for this gun. This gun was probably sent to Poland for trials in the late 1930s, and was issued on an emergency basis to a Polish airman or soldier who was stationed in Dęblin in 1939.

The second location is marked “București”, which is Bucharest, the capital of Romania. Poland shared a border with Romania in 1939, and when Poland fell to the Germans, some 120,000 Polish troops fled to Romania, which sufficiently explains the second step of this story.

Next is “Paris”. Our hero would have ended up there during the attempts to reorganize the remnants of the Polish Army in allied France. Following Paris is “Lyon”, and then “Andrézieux” (which I assume is Andrézieux-Bouthéon?), and then “Port-Vendres”, a port in southwest France from which this soldier probably sailed through the Strait of Gibraltar to Portugal after the Fall of France in June 1940. Neutral Portugal acted as a point from which Free French and Polish refugees fled to Britain, and this is made evident by the next marking: “St. Vincent”, referring to Cape St. Vincent on the southern Portuguese coast.

Our hero then ends up in Britain, where he stays first in “Liverpool”, then “Kirkham”, and then finally in “Bramcote”. Bramcote was home to a Royal Air Force base during the war, which was probably where this soldier was stationed after joining the Polish Forces-in-Exile. After this, he simply marks the end of the stock with a “?”, indicating that he has no inclination as to where the war will take him next, but that it it is bound to take him somewhere new. Unfortunately, no other locations are given, although I don’t know whether this is because he was stationed in Bramcote for the rest of the war, or whether it’s just because he ran out of space on the stock.

It’s worth noting, however, that this gun only ended up in a museum after being voluntarily surrendered to the police during the 1988 Firearms Amnesty, which means it remained in private hands even after the war had ended. Did the same man keep hold of it for almost six decades?

I’m sure this unidentified soldier had many stories to tell!
