[The Keihancarl Diaries: January 20, 2024]

Hi everyone, Keihancarl here. Today I'm heading to the North Avenue Malls for the second time since the pandemic, and my first mall-hopping trip for 2024.

I decided to wear all-black right now since I feel like it. Anyway, traffic is mostly light along Commonwealth Avenue. I even get to see the old Citimall (near UP Diliman campus), ready for demolition.

Reaching SM North EDSA, I checked the hypermarket first at The Block. There's an escalator access to the second level, though there's no direct access to the supermarket area from there.

I checked Uniqlo at the second level where I bought an awesome Naruto shirt (UT). Quite pricey, but I loved the design so much that I didn't hesitate to buy it.

At the bridgeway to the North Towers, people are lining up for the exclusive artist-made collection by Korean boy band SEVENTEEN at the pop-up store right beside the Park Inn entrance. I also passed by MizuSawa (a milk tea/coffee/dessert place), but I only checked the menu at the counter.

At the North Towers, I passed by Decathlon first. I also checked Muji Cafe as well and had a cafe latte (unsweetened) and a shiopan (salted butter bread).

I also checked the shop adjacent to the cafe. I get to see the infamous tabo, which makes rounds on social media for being pricey.

Checking the rest of the North Towers, there's a sitting moose on the ground floor near the escalators.

Heading back to The Block, I visited a few shops, including Fully Booked and Bocu.

The Fully Booked branch there had a storefront renovation, though it's business as usual.

Timezone opened at the fifth level. The rest of former Fitness First's space would probably be the future location of SM Game Park (just a hunch, though).

The Block looked a lot better and more luxurious (sort of) than when it first opened back in 2008. The layout itself is also different from what it was during the pre-pandemic days.

There are interesting art murals on the bridgeway to the North Towers parking, as well as the LED tunnel on the bridgeway to the City Center.

Heading to the City Center, I only checked a couple of shops, which are the Mi store and Book Sale. I bought a couple of second-hand manga books at the latter.

The staircase at the former cinema wing had a biophilic design like most parts of the mall.

The other staircase at the cinema wing looked like something from a resort swimming pool due to the design that looks like DOST's (Department of Science and Technology) logo.

And I'm off to the Annex. The LED billboard is already gone.

Inside, I checked a few more shops, including those in the Cyberzone area. Passing by MN±LA, I saw an interesting robe jacket (a drape, as the tag says) but I didn't feel like buying it at the moment. I loved the design, though. Hoping to get my hands on it one of these days.

The glass staircase at the fourth level still fascinates me to this day. By the window, I can see the entire Sky Garden (including the Sky Dome), the upcoming Unified Grand Central Station, and the City Center + The Block. And of course, Trinoma and the buildings on top of the Vertis North Mall.

Going back to the City Center, I dropped by the National Book Store branch there and saw a light novel I previously bought. I didn't stay long, though.

I decided to check the Interior Zone first before heading to Trinoma. Nothing much to see, except for a showroom. I passed by The Block one more time and exited through the Sky Garden entrance.

The Chinese lanterns are on display. Chinese New Year is only a few weeks away.

Going to my next stop, the footbridge was already dismantled so we had to use the pedestrian crossing instead. Anyway, I did get to see the Unified Central Station from there. Before reaching my next stop, I also managed to see a tarp regarding a possible connection (from Trinoma) to the upcoming Unified Grand Central Station.

Reaching Trinoma, I decided to check Landmark Supermarket first. After that, I immediately headed to the two Fully Booked branches (I visited the old branch at the basement level first before the other, newer branch at the third level). Having visited both the old and the new branches, I think the newer branch on the third level is smaller than the old one below.

Anyway, at least it does carry the usual stuff, especially the novels and manga books. I couldn't find Osamu Dazai's No Longer Human, though (the one published by Tuttle, both novel and manga).

I also had an early dinner at Pepper Lunch at the mall's Food Choices. It's been a decade since I first had my beef pepper rice at the Power Plant Mall branch in Makati (which had closed, unfortunately). This is the second time I've ever had a beef pepper rice, and a jumbo size too.

I checked the garden area as well. Too bad, the water features near the cinema area (including the fountains, I think) are gone (I never checked the rest of the garden area). Some even had potted flowering plants in their place. I wonder if it's just a temporary setup or a permanent one.

I then head on to my final stop, Vertis North. I only checked a few shops there, including The Craft Central and Uniqlo. Oh, and there's an electric vehicle charging station outside the mall area.

I passed by Japan Town, though the large LED display appears to have been removed. Or so I thought. Still loved the wooden elements, as well as the square lamps and the tatami-inspired tiled flooring.

And it's time for me to go home. I decided to take the UV Express at the Trinoma terminal near the MRT-3 North Avenue Station. Travel time took a lot faster than expected too considering that the traffic situation along Commonwealth Avenue is mostly light with moderate traffic in some parts.

And so, I get to visit the North Avenue malls for the second time since the pandemic. I was really taking my sweet time visiting the shops in these malls, just like my last visit. Also, I was feeling a little disoriented during some parts of that mall-hopping trip. Later on, I was getting stressed over the Instagram app's greatest defects (I'll cover this in another post very soon).

By the way, did I mention Chinese New Year? Yup, since my next mall-hopping trip will take me to Binondo, but I'll visit the malls at the Ayala Center first, especially the newly-opened One Ayala Mall. It won't be long.

Hey, hey! It’s me! 😁 And welcome back for another installment of "My Wangan Maxi Tune Career"! I returned in 2022, and now I'm continue it, this 2024. Yes, it's been a while. I haven't shared my WMMT's play progress in this current year, with the last record I posted was on May 31st, 2023 (Pls, go check it out in the "previous" section) before it went into troubles. And by that, I'm talking about my PC desktop problem. *sigh* 😫😔 Nevertheless, I have now SO MANY photos and screenshots that need to be uploaded on my current social media sites right away before I move on to my current update.

Actually, I forgot to switched to "Refuse VS" while I was finishing the "Story Mode". So, I got three stars! ��⭐⭐😅 Also, it is quite sweet to claim that new circle sticker, but I'm not a fan of putting stickers onto our car windows except putting letters. 🙂

Riya 🐰🏎️ [wearing Teenager Hoppy and Teenager Catnap's clothes combined]: Ah, I see. Nonetheless, so far the first half was done, and we're proceed to the second half of "Garage ACE". We're only have 15 chapters left before our Impreza cars were finally fully tuned, once again! 🐶🇯🇵🚘🟥🔵🌸🐰 It takes time, so we're not holding our breaths. 😁 Well, that includes our WMMT diaries, back to you creator! 😊

Me 🇵🇭: Thank you, twins! And here are what the cars look like, so far. However, nothing is changed from equipping auto body parts after playing it. Plus, I updated my license photo in all blue glory, including Riya's new name plate! 🥰💙🚘 And uh... I almost forgot, on that same date of May 29th, 2024 the mall's power went out while I was playing 🕯️😱, and we had to remain sitting without leaving the premises. And I did so because I was playing the aforementioned Maxi Tune arcade. Then, a fellow Maxi Tune player chatted with me about our experience, while he/she was checking the stats on the Wangan Navi app. The reason why there was a blackout was because of an early monsoon season in May. Usually, June to July hits the rainy season, and I love rainy days for staying at home and taking a nap for long hours without worrying ⛈️🏠😴😪. All rain aside, the mall's power suddenly came back, so the only thing we waited for now was the entire arcade machines. 💡😃 Before that, the aforementioned Wangan Maxi Player gifted me a free coupon for TZ Power Load worth ₱200. Damn! That's something I need to play more Maxi Tune! 🎫💳🕹️😃 However, I can't redeem this coupon, as I need to go to a specific branch to claim my free ₱200 TZ Power Load. And you know what, that's fine. I could make another plan for another day, as long as this coupon did not pass the expiration date. 😊 So overall, we're satisfied with our comeback experience, once again. And I have plenty of photos and moments to discuss before I proceed to my recent Wangan Maxi Tune update. 😁🚘🌃

Teppanya Launches Super Premium Unlimited Madness Menu at Its Newest Branch in Mall of Asia

Our favorite Teppanyaki restaurant has just opened a bigger and better branch at the SM Mall of Asia and it promises to deliver a spectacular dining experience for all its guests. Teppanya has been an enjoyable indulgence for us ever since we first discovered its unlimited teppanyaki promotion at SM North EDSA a couple of years ago (Read: Teppanya Launches 5th Anniversary Unlimited Madness Promo). We kept going back to Teppanya even during the pandemic years so we were happy to find out that they recently opened a new branch with a new premium VIP menu that will beat even five-star hotels in the city.

The newest branch of Teppanya is located at Seaside By The Bay in SM Mall of Asia, just in front of the MOA concert grounds. This is actually a more accessible location since you can just park your car in front of the restaurant or at the open parking lot right across. It is also their first branch that is not directly inside a mall so you can expect to find a bigger and grander venue when you visit.

Similar to their other branches, the MOA outlet features all teppanyaki tables so each guest can get the full Teppanya experience up close. This location is much more spacious as it comes with 14 teppanyaki tables all custom-made for your dining pleasure. Teppanya MOA can accommodate over 200 diners but they still get long lines especially during weekends and holidays.

They also have several private dining rooms which can accommodate up to 12 guests, each with its own dedicated teppanyaki table and chef. These can be booked with a minimum consumable amount of P20,000.

Teppanya has an a la carte menu serving premium Japanese dishes including sushi, tempura, tonkatsu and more, but what really made them famous is their Unlimited Madness promotion. Starting at P1988+ per person, you can eat all the teppanyaki and Japanese items that you want. This is available daily for lunch from 11:00am to 3:00pm and for dinner from 4:00pm to 12:00mn.

But for today, The Hungry Kat was invited for a special preview of their new Super Premium Unlimited Madness menu which will come with all their usual teppanyaki dishes plus unlimited servings of A5 Wagyu, Alaskan Snow Crabs, Foie Gras aburi sushi, premium Iberico Pork, and more!

We were seated at one of their private dining rooms with a magnificent view of the bay. This is also a connecting private room so you can combine it with the other room for those big parties and gatherings.

Dining at Teppanya always starts with a fiery exhibition from the talented teppanyaki chefs. The interactive dining experience is what makes this unique from other eat-all-you-can buffets.

While the chef was busy setting up the table, we were given a few starters which included this magnificent Otoro Sashimi. The otoro comes from inside the tuna's belly and is the most desirable and most expensive part of the fish. The sashimi is so fatty that it almost melts in your mouth.

The chef then prepared his first dish, the Wagyu Usuyaki Roll which is an upgraded version of the Usuyaki Beef Roll served on the regular menu.

The Wagyu Usuyaki Roll is cooked and assembled right on the grill. This meaty roll comes with mushroom and veggies that is placed inside a savory wagyu beef. It is then topped with garlic chips and doused in their secret sauce. This is a very delicious and filling appetizer.

Next is the Wagyu Aburi and Wagyu Aburi with Ikura or salmon caviar. This bite-sized wagyu sushi comes with tender slices of wagyu lightly torched to bring out more of its umami flavors.

The Hokkaido Giant Scallop is a huge piece of scallop which came all the way from the waters of Hokkaido island in Japan. These plump and juicy scallops are cooked on the teppanyaki grill then served back on their half shells.

Another premium seafood item is the Wild Alaskan Snow Crab. Its sweet and tender crab meat is really good which also makes it quite expensive. That's why it's very seldom to find these exquisite items at an all-you-can eat menu.

Here's a very luxurious sushi trio called the Emperor Aburi Set. It comes with Wagyu with Black Truffle, Foie Gras, and Unagi sushi. The foie gras is topped with gold flakes while the wagyu itself comes with a slice of truffle. You really can't get a more premium sushi lineup than this.

The chef continues to demostrate his acrobatic skills using the egg while preparing our��Chahan Mixed Fried Rice. Expect to see these entertaining performances from the teppanyaki chefs throughout your meal which the kids and adults alike will surely love.

The chahan is a mixed fried rice cooked with beef, chicken, and shrimps. You can also opt for the Seafood Chahan which has scallops and shrimp instead.

The highlight of the new super premium Unlimited Madness menu are the wagyu steaks. Let's start with the Australian Darling Downs Wagyu MB5 Picanha which really looks good even before it is cooked. The picanha is a tender and juicy cut of beef taken from the top of the rump.

The teppanyaki chef works his magic and grills the wagyu steak delicately. You can really taste the difference of the texture and flavor with each bite.

Another premium meat served to us was the Iberico Secreto Steak which is often called the wagyu of pork. This very tender and flavorful pork comes from a thin cut of meat hidden behind the shoulder blade of an Iberico pig. It tastes just as heavenly as the wagyu beef!

The Australian Duck Breast Fillet was another standout dish. I do love eating roasted duck but this is another outstanding way of presenting this meat.

We all like to eat sandwiches but the A5 Wagyu Sando is truly a cut above the rest. This beef sandwich comes with A5 grade wagyu and is topped with gold flakes.

They saved the best wagyu for last with the Japan Miyazaki Wagyu A5 Chuck-Eye Steak and the Japan Miyazaki Wagyu A5 Chuck Strip Steak.

We were truly in wagyu heaven with these two high-grade items with a Beef Marbling Score of 8-9 signifying wagyu of the highest quality. We were already quite full but we couldn't resist having more of these luxurious wagyu.

To end our special tasting menu, we had a cold ice cream dessert that was cooked on the teppanyaki grill! The Banana Flambé comes with caramelized banana strips grilled on the teppan table and then topped with vanilla ice cream. This was then flambéed and drizzled with chocolate syrup and tempura bits for the most indulgent teppanyaki dessert ever.

The new Super Premium Unlimited Madness Menu will be available soon for P4988+ per person at Teppanya Mall of Asia and its other branches. We would like to thank the owners of Teppanya especially Mr. and Mrs. Pineda for hosting our small media group. Teppanya Mall of Asia is an exciting new dining destination that will definitely impress families, kids, esteemed guests, and everyone else that will experience its fiery offerings. I'm already eagerly waiting for the opening of their next branch at the Shangri-La Plaza Mall later this year.

[The Keihancarl Diaries: February 18, 2023]

Hi everyone, Keihancarl here. Here's my first mall-hopping trip for 2023, at the North.

I decided to wear (mostly) all black, except for the socks and my shoes, and left the house at exactly 1:00 PM. I'm expecting traffic along the way, as per Google Maps. Of course, there's always a possibility of taking a shortcut just in case. Yeah, but the UV Express head back to Commonwealth Avenue via Atherton, so I’ll have to deal with the traffic for about fifteen minutes.

I get to see the MRT-7 trains parked along the Tandang Sora-Technohub area. Also, the Citimall in Philcoa is now closed (pending demolition), probably to give way to MRT7 University Avenue station. I did get a glimpse of the (under construction) Metro Manila Subway at the Mindanao Avenue intersection. A portion of North Avenue near Elliptical Road is undergoing widening. I wasn’t able to take pics though.

I reached SM City North EDSA a quarter before 3:00 PM. They’re having a mall wide sale at the moment, so I’m expecting a crowd of shoppers in some parts of the mall, particularly at the City Center (main mall area).

I decided to have a late lunch at Hot Star Chicken. After that, I checked a few shops at The Block and North Towers, including Fully Booked, Decathlon, and Filbar’s Multiverse.

The Food Hall opened on the fourth floor. I didn’t expect to see such unusual layout compared to the original one when it first opened fifteen years ago.

The Block is undergoing a pretty nice transformation. The fifth level is yet to be renovated, though. I also heard that the Watsons branch there is pretty huge.

Muji is opening at the North Towers very soon. They took a huge chunk of space at the second level. Probably the largest Muji branch in the country.

At the main mall area, I bought a few second hand manga books at Booksale, and then proceeded to check the annex building.

I then headed to Trinoma, passing through the Skygarden. From there, I can see the MRT North Avenue Station, which is part of the future Unified Grand Central Station.

Upon reaching Trinoma, I checked the new Landmark Supermarket first. I bought a box of Nescafe Café Creations strawberry latte coffee and a pack of fried minced garlic. After that, I headed to the Landmark Department Store, passing through the connector between the expansion and the old one.

Exiting Landmark Department Store, I only checked the Fully Booked branch inside the mall. I proceeded to Vertis North next.

The ABS-CBN Vertis Tent is now demolished. I wonder what they’ll do with the space. A possible mall expansion + office buildings perhaps?

Korea Town is no more, part of that area is now occupied by a furniture/home store, Mandaue Foam.

Japan Town is still there, but the planned Hallo-Hallo Alliance fashion shop (Tokyo Girls Collection) didn’t proceed as planned. That area is now occupied by Inspire Church.

The Fully Booked branch there is already closed. A restaurant/café, Dean And Deluca, will take over the space.

I checked a few shops, including Uniqlo and The Craft Central. Also, I see a MOS Burger pop-up store in the mall’s garden/park area.

Back at SM City North EDSA, I checked the department store. Despite having a sale, the mall was somewhat crowded. After that, I only checked the main mall’s upper and lower ground floors. I’ve already checked the main mall’s second level earlier that afternoon. I didn’t get to check the third level due to time constraints. Also, I skipped the Interior Zone.

I only had an order of takoyaki before going home. It was already 7:30 PM, so I decided to take the UV Express back to SM City Fairview. It only took me 45 minutes to get back, so I still have time to check a couple of shops there. I managed to get home before 10:00 PM.

It was an exhausting afternoon, feeling disoriented and a little tired at times. Anyway, I managed to enjoy exploring much of the three malls, though I could’ve visited Trinoma’s garden area, at least for a short while. I didn’t get to see much of that mall. Maybe I’m planning to revisit the area in the future, probably in about four months.

Well, I’m planning another mall-hopping trip in two weeks’ time. Whether my plan will push through or not will entirely depend on the situation. Anyway, that’s all for now. Until next time!

Title: Riya's TRUE IMPREZA custom car look - No 2

Here yet another latest look for Riya's "TRUE IMPREZA". 🔧🚘😁

• Last 2nd day of November this year, I decided to go once again at my current mall (SM City North Edsa), for another round meet up with my friend, Romulus907. And instead we've went to my usual arcade branch (Quantum Amusement), instead we've went to another direction, Denki Game Station at SM Annex North Edsa and played our current racing arcade (Wangan Maxi 5DXPlus).

• As I continued racing progress with her "TRUE IMPREZA" in Online Ghost VS Battle I encountered another Special G Armored Car once again as a 2nd time and it's no big deal to overtake / beat the same name (RICH) and the same course (Hiroshima Expressway) as from my previous ago. After beat up the Special G once again, her Shop Grade level gained 2. Unlocked new parts, browsing around items and I purchased the "Racing Stripe 2" with pink color, matching her personality and much like Spot used. 😉

Riya 🐰🏎️: Yes sir! That armored truck filled with G-coins is sure was a tough cookie, though... Hehe Nah, not really! 😅 But, I managed to beat it in a one-on-one VS Ghost battle! 😁 Also, I used to have "Racing Stripe 2" with pink color to matched my vehicle personality before it was removed when we transferred our data from "Wangan Maxi Tune 5DXPlus" to "Wangan Maxi Tune 6". *Sigh* Damn! I want that cool stripe included in the WMMT6, but we just have to earn more experience again by dishing out one or three ghosts in a VS Ghost battle! 😒 But hey, its alright. We just need to be strong and keep up, eh!? 😉💪 Anyways, I can’t wait to race it again, but I have some tasks that need to be finished. See ya! 👋😊

Dungeons & Dragons 5e Live

Free Opportunities

On my free days, I run live games in Metro Manila and occasionally in Cebu and Leyte — one-shots, short adventures, and campaigns! For opportunities to play at my table or other live tables, you may look into the following servers:

Soowy Dyeneris. Based in Metro Manila, it’s a small community server focused on D&D that hosts both games and discussions. It is where I’m most active in posting for live games, but there are also online games available.

Circular Ruins. Based in Metro Manila, the server is focused on growth and nurturing newcomers and veterans in the hobby. It also has spaces for discussions on other hobbies. Both live and online games are available here.

RPG Cebu. Based in Cebu, the community server runs many TTRPGs including D&D 5e. In addition to online and in-person games, it also hosts in-person events, runs at cons, and collaborates with other organisations. It is the most established of the options on this list.

TTRPG Ormoc. Based in Leyte, the community server is fairly new and is trying to grow the hobby in the area. Online and in-person games are sparse, but they exist and touch on games other than D&D 5e as well.

Venues may vary, but my games typically start in the morning or early in the afternoon. I run games for novices as well as more experienced players and focus most on exploration followed by roleplay and combat.

Paid D&D in Quezon City, Metro Manila

Venue: All aBoard XP by Gaming Library, Level 4, The Block SM North EDSA Time: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays during mall hours Cost: Php500 per head (inclusive of all-day access to Gaming Library games the entire day)

There is a recommended minimum of four players per session, and up to two groups can be accommodated per day. Scheduling must be done at least three days prior, and payment is made on the day at the cashier (GCash, debit, and credit accepted). Send me a direct message for inquiries and interest. I’m open to running introductory games for newbies to upper tier 2 games — whether you’re looking to dip your toes into the pen and paper experience or just need to scratch the itch! You may request a list of available adventures or request one.
