y'all....this au is insane. like genuinely one of the coolest concepts i have seen in this fandom. lance, taken by the galra as an infant and raised by them (altho they treat him like shit, obviously, so fair warning for that), as an asset, because they know he is the blue paladin, because he can See things he should not be able to see? and then he has to get integrated into voltron...yall nothing i can say can do this au justice. there's this almost ethereal feel to the entire fic, there were several moments where my chest was swoopy and my breathing was off bc i was like oh god oh god oh god. the complicated relationships, lance's struggle, and ALSO BONUS!!! das thace!!! i miss dad thace!!! do my fellow voltron geriatrics remember when dad thace was everywhere!! bc i do!! and i miss it!!!

2. five times someone didn't know keith and lance were dating, and one time everyone did by Shorty

Keith shrugs nonchalantly. “I’m still mad about the whole ‘babe’ thing.” ... Or, exactly what the title says.

there is nothing i can say about this fic that isn't in the title 💀 it's exactly what it says it is. and it hits. but some crumbs to intrigue you: 1) one of the tags on this fic is 'hunk is a hunk', 2) it's a 2016 fic, and 3) trust me.

SHATT SHATT SHATT SHATT SHATT. shockingly, i didn't just choose this one bc of the recent discourse lol. this is another 2016 fic that i adore. it's just -- disaster shiro, whipped shiro, down bad shiro, sweet matt, cackling keith, shiro who is dying of embarrassment, gay as all fuck shiro, etc etc. it hits. i laughed.

Lance stood in front of him, but it was a Lance he'd never seen before. Granted, Keith didn't know him well by any means, but he was positive that the regular Lance would be leaning against the doorframe with a smirk, maybe a couple finger-guns. Not this. This Lance had wrapped himself in a blanket, and was still shivering slightly. His skin was much paler than usual, with flushed cheeks and sweat on his brow. He sniffled. “Um.” Or the one where Keith and Lance live in apartments next to each other, and Lance is too sick for Keith to just leave him by himself.

this one is just very dorky and sweet. i love any fic that captures the exact moment in keiths brain when he goes oh no oh shit oh fuck hes HAWT and lance looks like genuine actual shit actually. its so funny to me

Ok considering i have sheith shippers/defenders dni in my intro post and I really dont feel like wasting my time today ill try to keep it short and wont be responding to shit like this down the line. Next time save your breath though. Because idk if you knew this but dni stands for Do Not Interact. You are interacting. Stop that.

1) they’re brothers. Sure it’s revealed much later in the seasons, but the point is they have an incredibly strong familial relationship. If you started off shipping sheith when they weren’t explicitly defined as brothers, fine. But after their familial relationship is revealed the choice to continue shipping those two specifically comes off as strange as hell. Even stranger when you consider the multiple other available male characters that are not only more age appropriate but also dont have a familial relationship with them lmao. Also Shiro canonically gets married to a man. So the choice to continue shipping sheith has to go beyond just wanting to guys to kiss. The next common denominator? They’re both asian, so I must conclude that the need to ship them comes from that. The next next common denominator is that they’re related and some of you just have a thing for incest. But i still have faith in humanity so i wont accuse you of that even though i occasionally feel the urge to. I refuse to take “but but they have the most in show relationship development” as a reason because that just means you’re too fucking lazy to think of your own scenarios. Which is not true, because the amount of devious ass sheith shit I unfortunately stumble across means your collective neurons are actively firing away. Just for the wrong thing. You guys really saw the only real developed relationship (i use this word generally and not strictly romantically) between two guys in the show and decided that it must have romantic undertones. Beyond how its harmful to irl men and deters them from emotional maturity out of fear that any non toxic relationship between two men is automatically seen as romantic by some people, it’s just fundamentally mid yaoi because you guys cant fathom that 1) romance isn’t a core part of the show beyond allurance 2) that two guys can talk to eachother while smiling without wanting to fuck. Yall are in the same league as those guys who are addicted to step sister p0rn.

1.5) bcs i know someones gonna ask “why do you think sheith is incest”, its because shiro fulfills the kinship role of “sibling” for keith, or even “parent”. From here-on out simplified as “guardian”. Within anthropology there are numerous kinship systems which determine which family member is called what. Ex. In the hawaiian system, every male family member is called “father” and every female “mother”. No matter if they birthed you or not. In the linear (also known as esk/mo but that’s a word with heavy history) system, your parents are “mom/dad”, siblings are defined as “brother/sister”, and everyone else is “aunt/uncle” or “cousin”. This is the system commonly used in the west. Kinship systems define a lot of things, from inheritance to respect hierarchies. Another key thing they determine is incest taboo. The range of which this taboo applies differs depending on culture, which is why you’ll hear of two people, for example, cousins getting married. In the west that’s considered taboo, but it may not be in another culture. Kinship and its taboos also apply to non blood related relationships. Hence adoptive siblings, etc. And keith quite explicitly refers to shiro as his brother. Given the context of those scenes, it can be deduced that it’s not said in a way that is 1) casual, as the lingo would more likely be “sup bro” or the tone of voice would be significantly more casual, 2) indicative of anything other than a familial relationship, for if keith considered him a brother in arms he would’ve said something more along the lines up “on your feet, brother”. Keith saying “you’re like my brother” AND THEN DOUBLING DOWN TO “You’re my brother,” said in such a sincere tone of voice leaves little to be debated.

Tldr: Shiro fulfills a guardian kinship role for Keith and thus the incest taboo applies to him.

1.6) also like? It’d be weird either way. Going by their canon age diff (season 1, 25-18 = SEVEN YEARS), and considering shiro met keith in middle school, and going by the oldest middle school age (15) bcs im feeling generous, shiro wouldve still been 22. If they just met once and never again till seasom 1, fine. Ship sheith however you want. But the fact is they met and then they formed a bond when shiro was significantly older and in a position of power over keith. Shiro was a mentor and guardian to keith whether you like it or not, and he stayed that way from when keith was young and impressionable until he was an adult. Yk what thats called? Raising a child. Imagine shipping that. Crazy. Imagine a 9 year old being raised by a 17 year old babysitter bcs of his absent parents. Suddenly when the 9 year old turns 18 he starts dating his babysitter. Thats freaky as hell, and i only increased the age gap by 2 years. Literally nothing else changed.

2) now why would they include a non aapi character in the mash up? Also, his source character from the og voltron is named “Keith Akira Kogane”. What non asian person is named that?

3) also the fact you need me to show you damage.. same vibe as “wdym he’s stalking you he’s just being friendly!! Show me how his so called stalking has put your life in danger”. Like imagine needing actual damage before even considering something bad.

not to bring up old amd major fandom discourse but...

okay so watching the atla live action drove me back into my 2010 zutara era, and reading all that zutara fanfic made me think of klance (the other blue/red ship we should have had) so i was reading klance fic which made me realize i forgot most of the show and made me want to rewatch the show and im about to finish season 2 again and guys??? omg????

ok i was a klance girly thru and thru like everyone else but in the early seasons like 1 and 2 (and i realize what i'm about to say is blasphemous but bear with me) allura and keith had HELLA chemistry. like they had bonding moments and had like...a lot of deep talks and skinship (like the ep where they thought they were being tracked by zarkon, or the ep where allura gets over some of her galra hatred for keith's sake, etc etc) and were honestly more compelling than allura and lance or allura and shiro. maybe it's because i'm no longer a child/i'm looking at it through a more critical lens but the dynamics are totally different than what i remember in the early seasons.

OBVIOUSLY IT'S MEANT PLATONICALLY IN THE SHOW but the chemistry is real platonically or romantically. and for fandom that ships anything with a pulse, this ship really should have been more popular.

i think ppl were just so obsessed with wanting gay characters or characters with specific sexualities that they glossed over characters that had real chemistry. and only sticking to the skinny characters was whack. lance had hella chemistry with hunk and but i think y'all are too fatphobic to properly appreciate him. i blame the show for making hunk the least fleshed out of the main characters. hunk is more than comic relief!

also? y'all butchered my boy keith in fanon. he's got way more personality in the real show than in fanon, which like i understand that usually fanon characters have less personality but the difference is wild. canon keith is not nearly as withdrawn or moody as he is in fanon, he's just kind of a grumpy guy who knows what he wants and is incredibly determined to get it. he's not as emo or depressed (or repressed) as fanon makes him either

also, unrelated and completely off-topic sidenote, stop writing spanish into your fics if you can't speak it. i can't speak it even i can tell yall on some gringo shit. use italics or <brackets> like they do in comic books and webtoons. way less cringe.

Let’s address queerbaiting in Voltron

This post is going to contain a lot of spoilers for season seven.

I’ve seen a lot of outcries about the new relationship from the recent season of VLD, well past relationship really, from Shiro and Adam and how it’s queer baiting. I’m going to address why it’s not infact queer baiting and that characters who break up with a past SO is not queer baiting and lowkey invalidating their sexuality.

It’s not queerbaiting if it was a confirmed past relationship, that’s confirmed the character is gay and not queer baiting.

Queer baiting is when two characters who are straight participate in actions that are precieved as intimate or could be seen as potentially establishing a sexual/romantic relation ship.

Ex; Dean and Castiel, dean and Cas are both straight but they are often in scenes that would perceive them as potentially establishing themselves as a couple.

Shiro and Adam are not queer baiting, if you break up with someone that does not mean you’re not gay. Shiro went after his dream and sometimes your partner at the time isn’t what’s best for what you want from life. That’s not queer baiting. Being gay doesn’t have to be a center point in plot of a character yelling “IM GAY” to prove that they are, sometimes it’s past relationships, sometimes it’s active relationships, sometimes it’s a character saying “yeah I’m gay”

Infact when you say “Shiro and Adam are Queerbaiting” you’re literally invalidating Shiros Confirmed Sexuality because it’s not an active relationship/it wasn’t touched on a lot.

You know what other characters were gay and it wasn’t a big deal? Dumbledore, Patrick From Perks of Being a Wallflower, torchwood has an omnisexual character, Para Norman one character is perceived as a love interest until he brings up at the end he has a boyfriend but it’s not a center plot point. I myself am gay but it does not make a center plot point of my life, it’s something that constitutes to the grand scheme that is me but it’s not something I’m constantly shoving in people’s face, making a huge deal over ect.

But that’s just my tea.

preface - lotor is the owner of ' the galtean tattoos & piercings ' on a busy street next to ' the altean cafe stop ' . he and matt are bffs till the end and are pro wingman , efficiently wingman-ing romellura . so obviously , allura and romelle constantly advertise lotor's shop and lotor does the same back . it's a literal fight about whose shop is the best .

so when keith's piercing gets infected , it's a shiteshow .

" keith ... " shiro started , putting down his newspaper and sighing . " you've gotten a cartilage piercing but you ... oh gosh my good plant soil whatever have you done ???? " shiro stood up abruptly , promptly analyzing keith's ear . " see , i don't know how to answer that question but can we go and check my ear please ? " keith asked desperately , unhanding shiro from his ear and sucking in air as the pain hit him .

basically three whole seconds later , they were in front of a tattoo and piercing shop known for their menacing looks but kind hearts . shiro just stared up at the neon purple sign , the letters glowing in cursive as he sighed and followed keith in , the little door bell ringing softly .

the bell was muted softly as they entered the room , buzzing from tattoo clients and a soft piercing gun clicking down . shiro looked around , slightly confused as he had never really been into this shop , only keith had . he smiled a bit at the walls of polaroids of people who got piercings and tattoo , following keith slowly . he turned his attention back to keith , watching him talk to a short but somewhat muscular boy who was busy drawing out something and had stopped to talk to keith . shiro couldn't see much really , the boy - girl ? - had a big brown mess of fluffy wavy hair that was in a cute little bob , much like pidge's .

oh . so it's the legendary pidge ?

shiro timidly stood behind keith and overheard their sweet conversation , feeling slightly like a intruder . " so like ... yeah " " we'll ... try ... clean ... fixed ... time !! " " shiro's ... guardian ... change ... " wait , wait . pause . rewind . did shiro just - " what ?? so you're changing legal guardians ? " he blurted out , instantly realizing his mistake and got even more flustered .

pidge looked up and laughed a bit , then twirled her hair around her finger , tugging a bit . " so , if it isn't the infamous insufferably innocent boy , " pidge said in a low voice . wait . shiro felt a blush rising to high heavens going up his cheeks as he stared at the figure and zoned out , and curled up in his brain . the now called pidge imposter looked him up and down .

keith smirked , " it isn't pidge , it's her brother . matt . don't be so gay now , get over yourself for a second . " he teasing elbowed him , shiro coming back to earth . " o-oh uhm yikes hahahaahaaaaaa ... s-sooorrryy ?? " he drawled , looking at keith for help and seeing his little sly smile spread like butter accross his face .

the stout little boy just looked up to him and smiled defiantly , raising a eyebrow . " takashi shirogane , the infamous softie ! how adorable , are you here for a tattoo or a piercing ? " he teased , finally releasing his hair strand . shiro stared at the hair bouncing against the rest of the mess once , twice , physics isn't real .

" uuuhhhh ... " keith just dragged matt to a seat . " ignore him , he's just processing all of this madness , how's your industrial going ? " matt just laughed , " it's doing good , my boy . anyway , so i got triple helixes and - " keith just looked at him in feigned shock . " what ? i left for what - three months and now you're all decked out without me ?! " all the piercing terms flew over shiro's head as he sat next to keith , knowing he looked less confused than he actually was .

matt quickly whipped out his phone . " okay so like i'll take out your infected ear , it won't hurt too much , just chill and stalk my instagram a bit , " he joked , calming down keith as best as he could as he wore gloves and wiped down the area . shiro winced before keith did , feeling anxious as heck . " hey keith , it's okay , it's nothing much , others probably have it worser , " he squeezed his hand encouragingly , smiling to him . matt just glanced at him and grinned appreciatively , then made him look at his triple helixes at its full glory and then suddenly - the piercing was out and the pain was hitting . matt quickly wiped the area down and numbed it with some spray , patting keiths shoulder and hushing him soothingly , blowing his ear a bit to try and calm the pain even more .

shiro just freaked out .

And Lance’s brain is on autopilot because holy fuck he cannot believe this is happening, that Keith Kogane is planning on making him so dizzy from kisses—he’ll probably spontaneously combust. So, with everything running a mile a minute, his automatic response is to be snarky, “That’s great, but what about Loto—?”

“Don’t care. Give me your mouth.”

"Mm, your lips taste like candy canes." It's a random notion, something Keith just happened to realize.

"Is that a good thing?"

"I'm not sure. It's not a bad thing, though." Keith steals another quick kiss from Lance's lips, licking over them at the same time. Yep, definitely peppermint. "I mean I don't usually like peppermint."

"Oh really? Yet you don't mind this?" Lance raises his eyebrows, pausing a moment before wiggling them slightly.

"Nah, you make it work. Somehow, you always do."

I had Allurance for a moment only for vld to make it a ghost ship with Lance now forever pining after Allura's death.

Shiro was finally able to be the "White Paladin" of the team but he barely interacted with them or even looked at Keith.

Hunk and Pidge had amazing screentime but Matt and a few others got sidelined and forgotten.

And Keith? He apparently wasn't even in Shiro's "wedding" with that rando--Curtis--even though he pretty much has been implying since s1 that Shiro is his family and his guiding light so therefore someone he would always be there for especially in his ups and downs of life.

Sheith held on all this time only to act like coworkers in the finale but not anything more like they have forgotten how to be best friends until it was convenient for the plot.

And Allura? The girl who lost everything? She ended up being almost like Honerva--sacrificing everything that is her to help her new family get their happy endings even though she could never attain hers.

I loved the fighting, the mecha transformations, the development of the MFEs, the plot, and the final showdown against Haggar but--

--To give Lance and Allura happiness and hint on giving her a new belonging only to stripe it away as a "price" all while "subtlety" diminishing Keith and Shiro's importance to each other to make their disjointed individual endings "make sense" outside of their s1-s7 buildup and somehow mesh both ships to fail in the end as a "this was the only way to save the universe" ploy-----

--Despite the damn show constantly paralleling the lesson on how Zaggar's love turned to a twisted hate that destroyed the universe and it was up to literally Allurance and even Sheith's love that actually saved the galaxy throughout the series--

----Only to rip both ships off as a sacrifice to satisfy the plot just enough to "justify" their demise as a means to an end. That metaphorical 'smoking gun' we expected to go off at the end? Over Allurance and Sheith? Was nothing but an illusion and wasn't even loaded to begin with apparently.

It is aggravating and disappointing.

I really loved this whole season but that last episode completely went against it's own theme.

They wouldn't have let Allura sake herself let alone let her do it alone--even with Honerva.

Lance wouldn't have even accepted the thought of Allura with that dark entity in her for long or even allow her to die or even worse be forced to love her ghost for the rest of his human life.

Allura wouldn't have wanted Lance to pine after her and not move on from her. She wouldn't have asked that of him by giving him her marks as a way of keeping a part of her quintessence in him.

Keith wouldn't just estrange himself from the one person that made up his whole universe especially after his oath to Shiro of always being there. He, at least, should have been the best man in the wedding if he was the selfless type to watch the canonical love of his life get with someone else.

And Shiro? He wouldn't have remained sidelined til the very end when they only needed him for his Atlas to only help boost Voltron and he clearly, while became a pseudo-Paladin for a moment, did not make any direct change or impact on the 6-man team. He especially should have had a direct moment of any form of romantic attraction with someone in the show and not as a damn fucking footnote of a "One Year Later" offscreen and unwritten romance with a character we didn't even know the name of at first nor should Shiro's final arc be seen as a "oh btw he got married and retired? Idk we keeping it vague so we give you lgbt rep!"

Despite the clearly, already written in the show, deeper bond he has had with Keith since even before s1 and that now makes his supposed bond with Keith a moot point and now unnecessary since it did not deliver in any way or reach a pinnacle in the climax nor did it have any proper closure to even indicate whether it could have or couldn't have been in the first place.

I have a lot of amazing points I would have shared earlier if I hadn't watched the last episode but that last scene completely turned the whole s8 around it's own head and practically told it to go fuck itself.

They try to amend it with a cheap superficial "Praise Allura Day" and despite a few of the team indeed having some form of ending--the main cast which consists of Keith, Shiro, Allura and yes Lance too by his association with her as her boyfriend--was literally given the short end of the stick.

Keith was sidelined and not allowed to act but be an observer at the end with none of his usual prowess, Lance now forever will chase after Allura's ghost and be haunted by her, Allura, herself, died for literally no reason than to right Honerva and Zarkon's wrongs, and Shiro wasn't allowed to even be a part of his paladin family and only there to remind people--at the last 5 seconds--that he's gay and apparently not single anymore with literally a no-name guy (actually it's Curtis but I had to look that shit up) that looked too much like Adam for my liking and while completely disregarding everything he did for Keith and vise versa.

Man that last episode is like Bleach's last chapter.

A completely different almost rewritten reality from the entire series itself. It overturned all the canonization of seven seasons under one episode.

And whether it was DreamWorks or JDS & LM's doing is irrelevant.

While it was an incredibly impactful season it did it with a fucking high cost.

Not about the ships per say--except Allurance for why make it happen only to destroy them immediately later?--but rather the complete turn arounds it had to do to try and justify why they made it that way.

That is what's so aggravating and disappointing.

Not the plot.

But the writing standpoint of trying to explain plotpoint A to upside down B. In a way, they became Haggar themselves and rewrote B and inverted it to make no sense whatsoever but pretend that it was "the only way" for it to end.

I expected an open ending for Sheith or actual development of Keith with Acxa and Shiro with Curtis if need be--and it had to be extremely good--but they couldn't even do that right.

And Allurance? They planned for Lance and Allura since the beginning but apparently the price Lance had to pay for his happy ending was her life out of the blue and at the last second.

And that hurts me.

This isn't as bad as Bleach's notorious ending but this is a definite close second at how they completely turned things around to try and make the ships happen just so they can fail while preaching how the theme of vld is found family and true love saving the universe.

Too bad the main trio--plus Lance now too--weren't allowed to partake in that lesson or in true happiness.

I still love Allurance and I will always love Sheith.

But what they did to Allura and Shiro completely ruined both Lance and Keith's endings.

And that breaks my heart to see it as the price they paid for daring to love them and trying to make them happy.

Lance can't truly be happy now since he can't move on and let Allura go or rather he won't to keep her memory alive in him.

And Keith didn't even get to watch the man he loved get with someone else and is now estranged from his best friend he swore he loved so much he literally was willing to die with Shiro and allow the universe to pay for it.

And what of Pidge and Hunk? We know what they accomplished but what about their personal lives? Is Hunk with Shay? Is Pidge still single? Is Matt still with his girlfriend? What of Acxa and the others? It is so vague with no clear answer and that is also disheartening.

Ah, sorry for my ramble. I stayed up to watch it from 3am and it's now almost 9am as I finish typing this jumbled vent post.

I'm both happy it's over and saddened it ended that way. While I didn't expect Sheith to happen I never imagined it like this and while I hoped for Allurance I didn't want them to pay the price for loving each other to the point of ending them.

I'm sad but I won't take it out on the writers--idk if I trust them at the moment--but I am still grateful they gave me Shiro and so many other characters to love.

I just hope they understand what they did and how much they disappointed nearly everyone with this "twist" ending.

Imma go sleep now I still have a lot to process.

I thought we'd get to see them all get happy endings but apparently only half of them did.

And last but not least no one suffered more than Coran when he found out--I feel so broken for him the most since he couldn't keep the promise to King Alfor to keep Allura safe--which is what his whole point in life was and what defined him as both a mentor and father-uncle figure to Allura and his new family.

And I think that's the one that hurts the most.

i'm sticking with voltron - here's why.

i have to admit - i'm disappointed at how adam was handled and i'm disappointed at how two warlords were coded as lesbians. i'm upset they died and how DW overhyped it.

but i'm not going to drop the show because there's still a chance of lgbt rep. there's still one more season - 13 episodes, 4-ish hours - for them to redeem themselves. like i said numerous times before : i trust our show runners. they are kind people, and they do care. they worked on korra and made it happen. they can do the same with voltron.

if yall step back and look at the season as a whole - maybe you'll realize that it wasn't as bad as people are saying.

beautiful art, hilarious scenes, heartwrenching interactions.

people are angry, rightfully so, about adam and the marketing team overhyping it - but please just understand that we still have more of the story left.

if they don't pull through, they know the backlash they'll get - they're already experiencing most of it. they are fully aware of their lgbt audience. they made a mistake, and they know it. if they don't pull through, i'm honestly going to be heartbroken. whenever i theorize shows, if parallels and hints and even obvious scenes such as the bonding moment get brushed off as queerbait, i feel like all of the work i put into analyzing it has gone to waste.

but there's literally so much evidence that lance and keith are endgame. still, that's another post for later.

barlee hasn't worked on the show in months, so most of the things being said are shaky and unsure. they said it themselves - they aren't sure of what is in the show and what isn't.

the rumor that dreamworks was going to make klance happen but was cut off later is only that - a RUMOR. there's no evidence that is the case. no confirmation from any higher sources working on the show. upset fans made that spread around and grow, and people are taking that as fact now. everyone needs to know that it wasn't confirmed by anyone but fans.

so there's a 0% chance of me dropping the show until it's over, because i know how much can change in the span of 13 episodes. i've stuck with LOK, and i'm gonna stick with voltron.

i'm not saying everyone has to stay, i completely understand if people are livid about the outcome of season seven. i just think i'm a little more patient and hopeful than most fans. i like to observe interactions and i rarely ship anything i don't see logic attached to. if it makes sense for them to be together, then i'll most likey theorize on it. there hasn't ever been a relationship such as lance and keith's where i've been so sure.

and if i'm incorrect, well, that's on me and i'm gonna own up to it. i'll be confused and disappointed, no doubt about that - but mostly confused.

even after s7, i still trust the showrunners. it's shaky, yeah, but i know these people and i know they care.

something similar happened in the LOK fandom when korrasami continued to "bait" the fans. people were upset about that, but near the end of the show - everyone was estatic about the finale. seriously, the similarities between these shows are extreme.

it simply makes the most sense - disregarding emotions - logically, that lance and keith are the main lgbt rep.

lauren montgomery drew lance and shiro holding up the lgbt sign and we got gay shiro. they pushed for gay shiro later, but nothing has been said about lance. their silence about it speaks volumes that they're hiding something.

(Long rant warning)

I think some people actually don't understand the process of writing. Like I see tons of people flip their shit when lm and jds say anything about how the story and characters were in the development of voltron and say they're terrible people for considering these as concepts in their story (like the idea to kill off Shiro, for example, was obviously scrapped both due to executives and also they were already thinking of a way to work him back into the story before the execs even stepped in; I had someone yell at me for like three separate replies in a post about how lm and jds are ~problematic~ because they wanted Shiro to be gay and there was a draft of the story in which he died and I'm just like honey... no... that's how writing works... creators change their minds and rework concepts all the time). People fail to realize how much drafting and writing and rewriting goes into producing a final product and it frustrates me as an author myself to no fucking end. Like... maybe understand how writing works before you yell about the showrunners being problematic because they considered killing off certain characters or whatever you idiots get mad about. Please shut up.

And for anyone who's about to attack me for possibly not knowing what I'm talking about, allow me to introduce you to my warrior cats character, Silverstorm:

I have had the same oc since I was an edgy depressed preteen who first got into warriors via the Graystripe and Millie manga which was the only book my school actually had. He started out as a super depressed, battle-scarred, emo she-cat whose mate was a rogue named Furyheart and I heavily projected on her. His original design had cheesy anime hair and one purple eye and one yellow eye and at one point she even had wings. A few years later (around 11th grade or so) I gained interest in warriors again and genderbent him because I felt like it and two years ago I scrapped the wings (even though it was super fun to draw cats with wings pff) and decided he was gay and this was his cat-boyfriend:

Silverstorm's reworked story at that time was that he was meant to be a medicine cat but felt that he was better at fighting and hunting so he hid his ability to communicate with starclan and relayed prophecies to his sister who had wanted to be a medicine cat. At one point in development he was a half-clan cat and his sister was in the other clan, too (now they are both in the same clan). He was constantly butting heads with an older warrior called Foxtail:

(can you also tell I don't know what a consistent art style is pffft this is the most recent ref I've drawn) who was an ambitious ass and a little too close to Tigerstar in personality so I changed the story fairly recently (like in August last year??) so that Silverstorm and Foxtail had trained together and been friends, and now Foxtail is Silverstorm's ex. Foxtail's motives for being an evil son-of-a-bitch are now "cat god is telling me to do this" instead of "I want power" because in this story starclan is now corrupt and has a leader (even though they're not supposed to) who banishes cats to the dark forest if they stand up to her. Silverstorm is no longer a supposed-to-be medicine cat and his sister is a medicine cat who can actually speak to starclan. He is visited by a dark forest cat called Flamestar who was the first leader of a rival clan and learns that his clan and that clan are actually connected by blood because the first leader of his clan was Flamestar's son. There's this whole thing where the conflict between Flamestar and his son parallels the one between Silverstorm and Foxtail but the parallels are reversed and eventually Silverstorm has to die so he can kill cat-god but like... I'm not even done? And half of what I just typed might get changed again before I get around to actually writing this?

As for an example of a very popular franchise other than voltron doing this, assassin's creed, one of the most financially successful and well-known video game series in the world, started out as a spinoff of prince of persia. An entire goddamn franchise almost didn't exist and because of a few decisions from the developers, now we have all these historical stabby simulator games. Another change that significantly impacted a video game franchise was the single decision to not have the evil ending of infamous 2 be canon. They changed it so as to not alienate players who preferred the good endings, and game that followed, infamous second son, was vastly different from what it could have been if evil!Cole had been canon instead.

The point I'm trying to make here is that a story can go through a ton of rewrites before it's finished. You can't fault an author (or any creator for that matter) for having concepts while in development that you happen find problematic. If those concepts make it to the final story, fine, be mad at them. But seriously, yall need to calm the fuck down and realize that this is the nature of storywriting. Go outside or something.

- akeno “KEITH” shirogane: (age: 19) [gay] hes japanese/black/galran. hes still half galra in this reboot bc i fuck with that honestly but hes got more visible galran traits. his bottom canines are larger than usual and poke out from his bottom lip so he wears a mask to cover his mouth and his eyes r still purple but instead of his sclera being yellow(tinted), hes just like. got some odd golden flecks in his eyes. he normally wears a dirty mechanics jumpsuit with the top half tied around his waist and a black or white tank top underneath (hes still a high school flunk out so he works full time at a car repair shop so hes able to buy food and shit at LEAST + hes still got his motorcycle to keep in shape). his casual clothes r just regular grey sweats, hoodies, and adidas or whatever brand is closest in their future lol. hes blood related to shiro who ill get to in a second.. shiros blood related to him as his uncle (brother of keiths dad) ALSO his hair isnt long in this reboot, hes got a short messy head of hair that he mostly just pulls back into a TINY little pony tail on his forehead (like in the game show ep) so it doesnt get in his face while hes working. he also has goggles bc thats the one thing from yalls reboot ideas i actually like (endgame lion: he momentarily pilots black during shiros disappearance but his permanent and stationary lion is red)

- fal’allura “fala, ALLURA” naguna’ephy: [lesbian] (age: 21 or close to that in alien standards) shes altean on her fathers side and teem (what we’re gonna call nymas race) on her mothers side. she bares more altean features except her eyes are solid yellow and shes only got four fingers on each hand. instead of crescent shaped facial markings, she has painted on red and golden lines across her nose and her upper lip. her hair (very dark purple with silver highlights and literal glowing, twinkling stars) is VERY long, brushing the floor as she walks except and (now bear with me cuz this might be hard to explain) her hair, the farther down u look kind of fades away? like it becomes semi to absolute transparent… idk how else to explain it but i hope u understand…. she does wear a crown but its more like a headdress.. (imagine beyonces headdress).. she doesnt wear it often, usually only on diplomatic missions to greet other worldly rulers bc its heavy and it makes her neck hurt :/.. her dress! looks like this! but a little more spiffy .. u know.. her casual/training clothes are just…. idk imagine a royal looking sports bra and leggings?? i guess … ALSO ALSO ALSO she can still shape shift but instead of limiting her shifting to just the changing of skin tone and height, she can completely mimic different alien species but only humanoid races.. like she can have those indented looking knees and huge ass horns and all that but she cant like. turn into an earth lizard u know what im saying. also also also also she still speaks with an accent just… not a british one….(endgame lion: no lion. she keeps leading and piloting the castle ship until destruction, where she leads and pilots the atlas)

- alejandro “LANCE, ale” reyes-leon: (age: 19 ½) [bi] hes cuban/black/vietnamese. his dad is black and vietnamese and his mom is cuban! hes got longish afro textured hair he keeps back in a pony tail most of the time like this or a bun when training bc hes too lazy to put any actual effort into styling it. hes got a couple moles/freckles scattered across his face and hes got sectoral heterochromiaaround his left pupil so theres a little bit of blue in one of his other wise dark brown eyes (like this).. i havent really figured out what his clothing style is.. i thought about keeping his clothes close to vld canon like his jacket (bc that was a really good jacket) but im gonna go a little wild here so hold on. he wears one of those surfer type looking skin tight turtleneck shirts underneath his heavy bomber jacket.. he wears just regular ripped jeans and hightops like in canon…….. hmm……. he wears a pink bead necklace under his shirt that was made by his little cousin just a couple weeks before he was shot off into space and he hasnt taken it off since…………. he also has a tiny stick and poke tattoo on his ankle he did when he was thirteen bc he thought it would look cool but it turned out kinda lop sided so he never takes his socks off in embarrassment (endgame lion: blue to red (during keiths reign as black paladin) then to black when shiro leaves voltron to lead the atlas alongside allura)

- takashi “SHIRO” shirogane: (age: 31) [gay] hes japanese/black. hes keiths uncle and the only family keith really has .. his design doesnt really change much except hes got long hair (like kuron) but its pulled up into a messy bun or pony tail.. in MY canon hes still gay and married to adam (whos name isnt adam i just cant think of a new name for him yet) (and adam lives dont worry) and theyre working on adopting a daughter before shiro has to leave for kerberos. shiro usually dresses in work out outfits so like. gym shorts… tank tops.. leggings.. imagine those white blonde dudes who always wear a man bun and only eat vegan and drink chai from starbucks bc thats exactly how shiro acts but ONLY ironically ……… when shiros abducted on the galra freighter and forced to fight in the ring, his hair streaks white but instead of just a clean scar across his nose, he has multiple long scars scattered across his face from a one x one between his face and some debris thrown at him by a gladiator. his prosthetic looks and remains kinda the same i guess but this time its decked out with claws on the finger tips so it looks a little more galran yeah? (endgame lion: no endgame lion. he pilots the atlas alongside allura)

- francesca “frannie, frankie, PIDGE” eleonora: (age: 15) [trans girl lesbian] shes . just italian i guess. so anyway shes not gonna be an asshole bitch like canon pidge.. shes gonna be the caring sweet but KINDA mean little sister we always wished we had.. the little sister who would tell u, with all honesty, that ur winged eyeliner was smudged before u hit the town with the girls and made a fool of urself……. ANYWAY shes still gonna be the ‘hacker’/computer geek techno girl but not as much ykno? shes JUST a little girl so she just kinda does her own thing. i rlly like all the fanart i see of her wearing overalls and stuff SO thats her canon design…… she wears faded overall jeans over a short sleeved pale pink tshirt w a dog one it and scuffed up chucks. she wears glasses but instead of just taking them from matt she has an actual prescription and is basically blind without them. i literally cannot stress this enough but shes such a nice girl like the team pretty much adopted her as their little sister the moment they boarded the castle ship. idk what else to add on to her!!!! i literally did not put any thought into pidge at all! - opetaia“HUNK” tuitama: (age: 19 ¾) [bi] hes samoan/black. hunk was adopted and has two moms and three other siblings, all of who are younger than him. im not sure about his fashion other than i KNOW deep down in my heart that he would wear cargo shorts…. i cant find it in me to get rid of his bandana thing so i let him keep it except he uses it to tie his hair up instead of using it as a head band thing….. HUNK in my au is more of a tech freak/engineer than pidge so he handles most of that stuff with the occasional help from pidge (like wiring… she has tiny fingers that can grab the wires easier) hunk probably wears the crocs/sandals with socks combo but just because he loves hearing lance bitch about it whnever he struts into a room. hunk also looks good in his vest so im gonna let him keep that but it looks more modified… like it has a bunch of pockets and stuff to keep bolts and nuts and other stuff he needs to work with.. thats also why he wears cargo shorts; just for the pockets.. Voltron Legendary Defender

Oh boy.

Just gonna throw all my thoughts into one post because I would probably otherwise flood the joint with them. This started as a genuine review and quickly dissolved into rage. enjoy. this is 1-8 so full of spoilers.

1. Enter: A happy honest to god kids' show. We meet the first 3 kids as they are training at the Garisson: Pidge, Hunk, Lance. Suddenly something crashes from space into the desert near the base, so of course they sneak off to investigate like any good schoolkids would. Enter: Keith. The hot badboy that every series needs. School: dropout. Hair: mullet. Motorcycle: duh. Fingerless gloves: on. Keith is coming to save Shiro, who has been missing for a year, and is also the something that fell from space. (Missed opportunity: falling from heaven pickup lines). Enter Shiro: giving Dad Bod a whole new meaning, and the leader this messy group of kids needs. The 5 find the Blue Lion, which takes them on an autopilot adventure theough time and space. They arrive on a planet home to a peaceful alien race, home to the maker of the blue lion and the other 4 lions that make up Voltron. Yay! Really most of this season is finding the lions, repairing the castle, and figuring out that there is no i in teamwork, Keith. Don’t forget bonding moment. ver import.

2. Still on the happy kid show train for the most part. After a fight with Zarkon the kiddos are all separated to far off planets and get into trouble. They fight the galra a lot, have to fix the castle some more, go to the mall like regular teenagers would. Prep for fighting Zarkon again and whatnot. Big ol battle.

3. In comes Zarkon’s hot son, Lotor. I really love Lotor as a character, instead of charging in headfirst he collects data, is analytical. They form a coalition of rebels to fight the Galra, its some good stuff. But no Shiro, and Keith has to step up as the leader in his absence. They go through the struggles of s1 teambuilding because of the change in lineup.

4. Keith is away a lot training with the Blade of Marmora, trying to learn more about his heritage and where the knife he carries is from. The Blade helps them fight and stuff. They acquire a cow.

5. Shiro shiro shiro you poor bastard. Shiro acts weird and the others notice, but don’t really do anything about it. Zarkon finally dies. But now it’s Lotor. woo. But Lotor wants their help to become emperor of the Galra. Maybe not a bad guy. Loturra etc.

6. Lotor not a bad guy? Lotortron vs galra. KEEF MOMMY YESSSSSSSS. But now Keef is older and hot thanks lance. More Loturra. eugh. I really love the Keith and Mom arc, they get some bonding time for 2 solid years while travelling through space. VLD D&D YOOOOOOOO. Suddenly more Alteans. Lotor evil. This season is such a whirlwind yikes. Keith vs Shiro killed me. Finally get real Shiro back and if that aint a bonding moment good lordy. No longer a kids show. Not in the slightest. I love this season though.

7. the worst. but GARFLE WARFLE SNICK. PONYTAIL KEEF. They go to earth and it’s horrible. “We aren’t going to kill off our lgbt rep” but I guess no show needs two gay characters bye adam. I hate this season, and I really feel like this is where they lost respect from a lot of their viewers. I hate how much they hyped up gay Shiro only to kill off his ex before they can interact again. I hate how much they hyped up gay Shiro only to leave Adashi open to interpretation. They could easily have been best friends or roommates. Nothing in the show says that Shiro is gay or that him and Adam were involved romantically. They hyped and hyped on Twitter, only to leave it so vague.

8.... oh 8. fandom voltron will always be better than canon voltron. that’s what we learned in this season. JDS and LM are full of shit also. “Lance will end up with someone you wont expect” um you mean Allura? Memories of Allura? Alone? Yeah. We expected all of that you trash. And what did we get? All. Of. That.

This season has just left much to be desired. The thoroughly enjoyed the battle scenes and all of that, which there was a ton of, but what I wanted was the characters. There’s been a good amount of character development throughout the series but like holy Lance baby boy oof did he grow up since the start of the fiasco. Pidge and Hunk deserved more development. Hunk just deserved more in every aspect: he’s funny and cooks that’s it. that’s all Hunk gets. At least he gets his waifu unlike anyone else. I guess if you get no plot you get to have a partner that actually makes sense, its a give and take.  

Then we have Shiro. He is so damn sexy in that captain’s uniform I just gotta say. The role suits him I think. But the important things. Him and his husband were done such a disservice by the producers. “We aren’t going to just randomly force a relationship” “we dont need romance to develop a character” bull. shit.

Alright yall lets be real. The only LGBT rep in this series is for marketing. Not even going to say queer baiting.

We were straight up used.

“you guys will get to know Adam!” Annnnd him and Shiro break up and then Adam is dead, he gets like half a minute of screen time. Yeah we really “got to know him”. Even after marketing had Adam on it... and they used a lot of rainbows and shit after they announced Shiro was gay.

Then Shiro is randomly getting married only a year later. To who? ? Why is it that none of the other paladins are married, but the original leader of voltron, the knight in shining armor trope man, is the only one getting married and not really doing anything important like the rest of them??????

It was an afterthought. Cheaply written in to win the queer rep points. Like yay a gay kiss on tv but also. Yay another gay wedding in kids tv.  but I don’t like how they did it and its horrible rep. We get 2 weddings in kids animation, but how many straight weddings have there been?

THEY THROW IT IN BECAUSE WE’RE SO UNDERREPRESENTED IN MEDIA THAT WE’LL EAT UP EVEN THE TINIEST SLIVER OF ALMOST REP AND THEY KNOW THAT AND JUST EXPLOIT IT. It’s no different from random brands putting rainbows on their packaging during pride month so they’ll be bought and favored in the queer community, whether the company stands for gay marriage or not. It’S ALL FUCKING MARKETING QERKJGERJNGERJH I HATE IT.
