What happens to 80s & 90s anime that arent streaming right now when VHS & DVD completely go away?

The obsession with micro everything, everythings a sound bite, everything is 5 to 7 seconds, even songs, the chorus IS the song now, noone else ever hears anything else.

Only sports, reality TV and competition games can be watched week to week in real time.

All TV series now have to be immediately binged and consumed.

Its essentially bulimia.

Binge Loki in a weekend. Binge Ahsoka in a weekend. Its already done.

Whats next.

What else can I feed the machine with.

No waiting week to week. No such thing as a cliffhanger. No anticipation. No guessing whats next. No watching together as an audience.

Everything segmented, everything bifurcated, nothing in real time, nothing communal.

No season finale, no season premiere.

Same with anime.

Its not VHS or DVD anymore.

Serena was born and raised in Zuzu City, living in a small apartment with her mom, who was a prominent horse racer at the city’s track. They struggled to make ends meet for a long while, hardly scraping by. Even while in school, Serena was always thinking there was a better life for her out there besides what she and her mom had been subject to. While they were doing better financially as her mom could race more thanks to her being enrolled in school, Serena never wanted them to be in poverty ever again.

She began working long hours at her local JojaMart. Within the store were portraits of Joja Corporation’s CEO, and she couldn’t shake that the man looked eerily similar to her. She never knew who her father was either; it was always her and her mom, no one else. She passed it off as a coincidence instead.

After years of juggling work and school, she finally graduated. It was then her mom broke the news to her that she was retiring from racing after her undefeated streak and moving to Grampleton, a smaller town. As her graduation present, Grace gave Serena the rest of the money she needed, and Serena’s sights were set on a very small town nestled in a valley.

At 18, Serena moved to Stardew Valley with nothing more to her name than some gold, a backpack of items, and a sleeping bag. She frequently camped out in the Mines, as they provided shelter from the elements, and she’d learn of her love for adventure and exploration there, along with one of her passions...

Raising Slimes. For some reason, the Slimes in the Mines didn’t attack her, and weren’t aggressive with her. She could even pick them up, well, as well as she could pick up a gelatinous object. Mayor Lewis had come up to the Mines to check on her after learning she lived there. He had told her she could raise and take care of Slimes as long as she kept them out of Pelican Town, as it could cause issues with the townspeople. Serena came down from the mountains, Slimes in tow, as she scoured Cindersap Forest, eventually finding a rundown cabin north of the Secret Woods. That was where she’d make her home, clearing land and gathering wood to repair the cabin.

In the next years, she’d spend time taking care of her Slimes and raising them, adventuring in the mines, and crafting items. She learned how to craft Warp Totems, utilizing them to get place to place quickly. One place she warped to frequently was the desert, in which she’d enter the Skull Caves. The first few times she went in, she didn’t go down very far. On one particular day, though, she was feeling very bold and ventured further than she normally would.

While mining some stone for her future Slime Hutch, she was overran by a swarm of Serpents. By all rights, she should have died in the Skull Caverns that day. She remembered her fading consciousness and the injuries she sustained, and she remembered passing out, with no one even knowing she was here.

Yet, she woke back up days later. She was out of the Skull Caverns somehow, laying on the cold ground in the Quarry Mines, in front of the Grim Reaper statue at the very back of the cave. The Haunted Skulls and Slimes that inhabited the caves weren’t attacking her, but rather seemed concerned for her well-being. The injuries she sustained from the Serpents were all miraculously healed as well. It was as if she’d never been attacked at all, much less visited the Skull Caves.

From then on, whenever she dared to venture to the Skull Caves, she would take the bus to the desert instead of warping there. That way, at least if she didn’t come back, the driver would know to get help for her. Still, the sound of approaching Serpents puts her on edge.

After the experience in the caves and with the statue, Serena was approached at her home by the Wizard out of the blue. He didn’t refer to her as ‘a mundane’ like he did the rest of the townspeople. Instead, he offered to take her in as an apprentice, and to show her magic and the arcane arts. If she isn’t at home, or the mines, she’s at the Wizard’s Tower.

Usagi Tsukino/Serena is probably one of the few people that could beat Son Goku. Like Goku, she has different forms, in just her base form (Sailor Moon) her weakest attack could destroy an ENTIRE dimension while her strongest attack is as powerful as a supernova; she does not run out of stamina, her stamina is limitless and her speed is immeasurable: This is Usagi/Serena's BASE FORM... Her final form, Sailor Cosmos gives her the powers of: rebirth, reality warping abilities, complete control of space-time, a powerful healing factor (protects her from destruction of mind, body, and soul), every sailor senshi/sailor scout' s abilities and power, the manipulation of abstract concepts. To put it simply, this form grants her every power in existence, which is wild because no one would ever think that a character from a shoujo manga series could be this powerful... but she is!

I'll never understand how Advanceshippers swear by how their ship is superior to Contestshipping.

Not even throwing shade, (okay maybe a little) but seriously! I get that Drew was a dick in the beginning, but let's face it he was never the bad guy or the ladies man that people made him out to be.

Being loved by women and being a ladies man are two different things. Let's get that straight. He enjoyed his status as a coordinator because he was the shit and he knew it. It wasn't because it got him closer to women. He enjoyed watching his Pokemon shine, and of course- like anyone in his position, he enjoyed being the center of the spotlight as well. Just like Dawn, Harley, May, Solidad, Serena, hell even Ash. It was in his blood to become a coordinator, so guess what?? He did it and was damn good at it. Anyone in his position would have fans. Not to mention Drew obviously showed he was uncomfortable being surrounded by mobs of female fans. It was different if someone came up to him respectfully, but I dont see him thoroughly enjoying having other people obsessively getting in his personal space. Drew is a loner. He doesn't make friends with just anyone.

Next! The thought of him being a bad person for May. Drew is a WONDERFUL person for May. This is non-negotiable. Don't @ me.

Let's start from That's Flower Power.

Yes Drew was very harsh at the beginning, (key word: BEGINNING) and he was snarky and could've been a lil bit nicer, but he wasn't a bad person. He saw May needed help on something, and then immediately took action (attacking Team Rockert and getting their Bluk berries back.) The only reason he was hard on her was because he sees this beginner with potential who doesn't have the exact hang of it yet, so he strives to push her harder. I believe he was snarky to the gang as well due to him noticing her friends are enabling her to accept minor effort. Kinda like how a mom would treat a baby for taking their first bite. Congratulations! You'll get there! That's the thing though, May wasn't a baby. She was a young teen, (I say teen because YES they are 10, but let's face it.. nobody in anime acts their age. They act a little bit older. Hence there is no way in hell 10 year olds would go off with 15 year olds on their own to travel the world) and she needed to be pushed to her limit just enough to see the bigger picture. She didn't know that, the gang didn't know that, hell WE growing up didn't really realize that, but Drew did. It's the truth. The gang enabled her to stay at her mediocre pace. They didn't do anything wrong for that, but they didn't help her reach her potential any bit faster. Drew did though. Each time she surprised him, he got sweeter and gave her a little bit more praise everytime. Yes, he remained harsh, but she still had a lot to learn. Might I add, nobody could push her the way Drew did. There are so many scenes where it shows how much Drew subconsciously pushed her to want to be better. A matter of fact- in The Unbeatable Lightness of Seeing Max tries to get Ash and May to battle and GUESS WHAT?!?!? May responds, "NO WAY!"

Now this could mostly be from their battle styles being similar, but despite that she openly admits the loss to Solidad was bothering her much more at the time. She WANTED to be better and find her own battling style, but she couldn't yet due to the fact she was depressed from her loss and it was holding her back. All it takes is her and Drew having a 5 second stare-down into each other's eyes for her to get off her ass for the first time in like 5 episodes. That's it. That is all it took. Not to mention even though she lost to him it gave her closure. She admittedly said it herself that she thought she caught up, but he pulled away again. All Drew said was, "Well you gotta keep moving, I guess" and that was the absolute truth. That's all her wanted her to do, was to keep moving no matter what. Keep being. That's another reason I believed she went to Johto. She didn't need Ash and Brock anymore. She needed herself and the things that made her lil coordinator soul light up. She needed change, and she needed Drew. Everyone can say "Oh all Harley and Solidad went too" yeah no shit, and I bet if she found out only Harley was going to the Johto region she would've been like, "LMFAO LET ME GO TO SINNOH" but because of Drew going she decided she wanted to continue following him, because he was her rival.

Not even in that stereotypical filler episode that almost EVERY Pokegirl gets where some random ass character that nobody ever sees again accuses Ash and the main female character of having feelings with each other. EVEN LANA HAD MORE HINTS OF HAVING FEELINGS FOR ASH, hell at least she blushed 🤷🏼‍♀️ There were seriously never any hints between them two, they were more like siblings. They were so alike it was unreal and that's why May no longer wanted to travel with Ash because it didn't benefit her in the end, which is why she went to follow Drew instead!

Might I add if someone says "weLL iT wAs jUsT a KiDs sHoW tHeY cOuLdNt dO mUcH" just stfu because Serena literally kissed Ash. They got away with so much shit when Pokemon was owned by ForKids that they seriously could have put a kissing scene in there if they wanted to. They could have added *hints* towards Ash and May if they WANTED to, but they chose to show hints towards May and Drew instead since they were the closest thing to canon on the series other than Amourshipping and Pokeshipping. HELL EVEN PEARLSHIPPING HAD MORE HINTS THAN ADVANCESHIPPING but it is an easy comparison when one has things to back them up and the other doesn't have anything to back them up 🤷🏼‍♀️ but we already knew that!!!

i know the dic dub is nostalgic for ppl but as a Latina I just dont see it’s merits when the iconic Mexican dub is right there, localized but largely uncensored. It used the dic names like Serena but kept japanese last names

The latina dubs never airred in the U.S/Canada so a lot of it is just not knowing about it and nostalgia for the U.S dub

the German dub is pretty good too I hear, sailorcrisis told me the director was half japanese or knew it enough to make the translations pretty faithful to the point it never got a redub. which was a problem for the current rereleases cus the audio quality isn't good. to my knowledge the attacks names were the major difference and Usagi being named Bunny

nobody asked but i feel annoying when i infodump on my irl friends so heres my expert opinion on every single main series pokemon professor :)

professor oak: i dont like him sorry. its the blue stan in me. it also annoys me that pokemon is trying to make him a new mascot or whatever so they keep rolling out generic ass clones of him. i miss when spinoffs/supporting applications would get their own new professors

professor elm: i think hes sweet :) he seems like the nicest of all the professors but in a very subdued way. he's just kinda quiet and nervous but if you're having a rough day he'll invite you to his personal office for tea. he's like your gay english teacher that you stay to talk to after class every day. but i do think it's funny as fuck that he got robbed by a 12-13 year old and his immediate response was to call ANOTHER 12-13 year old

professor birch: big. dad. energy. the khakis the short sleeved t shirt the stubble. it's all there. he's probably the really goofy but surprisingly emotionally aware & insightful type. its also very funny how he got attacked by a wild dog and just ran around screaming for god knows how long until a random preteen showed up. in short i like him and i think he and brendan are sweet :) they probably go fishing together and birch helps him w his math homework at night

professor rowan: underrated!!!! has a very good theme!!!! i like him a lot he gives makes me think of like, a really stern and strict college professor who's actually really nice in his own grouchy, professional way. and like always has your back & goes and gets you fantastic internship opportunities without even telling you. but on the flipside his email responses are probably monosyllabic and he just does whatever the fuck he wants because he's tenured so his university can't do shit about it. like he just fucking gives u & barry rare starter pokemon in platinum because he feels like it! he doesnt even know you??? king

professor juniper: i loooove her 🥺 she also has a good theme song. she just seems like a really chill person. super go with the flow and fun, always trying to be positive and confident. probably listens to classic rock. but she also has big soccer mom energy, but like, a cool soccer mom, the one that brings the BEST team snacks to her 8 year old's saturday games and takes her out every friday like clockwork to get ice cream. and is like the neatest science teacher who schedules cool field trips for her rowdy class of 6th graders. i don't know why her dad is there but he's cool too i guess. he has a good theme song too and Cedric is a cool name. pretty fly for an old guy

professor sycamore: probably my favourite professor LMFAO has one of the best character themes of any pokemon character period. very few fans of him have Taste however. he's not some suave sexey smart guy get real he's like, a huge fucking mess, very book smart but otherwise an idiot, can't dress himself, gay as hell, pays his scientists well but he cant manage finances for shit so he ends up eating ramen every night. a literal trainwreck but every few years he'll publish some crazy research that blows everybodys tits into next tuesday so everyone respects him. chronic child adopter (first dexio and sina, then serena, calem, shauna, tierno, trevor.... jeez dude)

professor kukui: YEAH. YEAH!! he's just good!!!! i like him. outgoing eccentric dudebro who's actually really smart. he's funny, the whole masked royal thing is dumb as hell but i like it, also he and burnet are so CUTE as a gen 5 nut who bought all the weird spinoffs and minigames on my 3ds, it was AWESOME to see burnet back and with a man that treats her like a QUEEN. back to kukui he's the fun uncle type who takes you and your cousins out to do shit that your parents would kill him over but you love him so they can't do anything about it. he's actually crazy responsible though despite the fact that he lets his pets beat him up for funsies he would NEVER do anything that would put someone else in danger. also hes the only professor that's also a unbelievably talented trainer imo

professor magnolia: i thought a cool chill old lady professor would be cool but unfortunately with magnolia there's not a lot there :( she does seem like a cool grandma though. but i still would've liked an unassuming but secretly badass and no-nonsense old lady prof. as for the other magnolia, sonia, i think she's neat also but her arc could've been written better. instead it felt kinda forced :( she has a cute design tho its Unfortunate that a large portion of pokemon fans are weird nerd men in their mid to late 20s. i don't have a lot to say about these two they just got done really dirty compared to how cool and interesting a lot of the other swsh characters are

I thought about not answering this, but I decided to respectfully share my point of view.

If you’re a black man and didn’t feel bothered by this then good and I’m happy you didn’t see any problem with his statement. I have friends that are black and latinas that felt uncomfortable with it, so maybe it’s a subjective thing.

I know I'm white and privileged, exactly like Harry by the way, but his statement bothered me and left me kind of uncomfortable. It isn’t wrong from me to say it and I never said it with the intention to create problems or drama. I’m over that shit because in this fandom there will always be double standards, and big ones, where Harry is concerned. 

And this is what bothers me: if I was to come here on Tumblr.com and say “I’ll be Barack Obama for Halloween! Or Serena Williams” you’d come after me and say that it was wrong of me to do it. If I was to come here and say that I was going to be Pocahontas, you’d say that I'm appropriating a culture that isn’t mine. 

And I totally get that because I learnt through the years that there are things that aren’t jokes or meant for me to do because they can be offensive or uncomfortable to a whole community. I accepted that and I always try to educate myself on these things.

If that makes me “fake woke” then okay. But please don’t tell me that if I said what Harry said that I wouldn’t be crucified by people on here.

as soon as the “previously on” highlighted hannah’s martha i thought “oh fuck” because i figured she would get in trouble for telling june about the guard

i can’t figure out june’s shopping partner. the same way i can’t figure out lawrence. im honestly getting tired of the plot not moving forward at all and the writers just making characters ambiguous for drama. it’s okay with one or two but to have june’s shopping partner, lawrence, serena, and “nick” (putting in air quotes because ya know) not being able to pick a side and going back and forth so much is just annoying. 

i would much rather have the focus be on june, moira, emily, alma, and janine than the shopping partner, lawrence, and serena. 

i really like mrs.lawrence. i hope we get more of her this season. I think her and june could be really good friends if given the chance. badass june is great, but i would much rather see her bond with mrs.lawrence than manipulate her and im glad she realized that herself and apologized for lying. 

ngl i like naomi now? and by like obviously i dont root for her as a character i just mean i actually enjoy her on screen because the actress’ facial expressions are killer when before i felt like she was just a background character

based on naomi’s comment about june getting along so well with mrs.lawrence and her glances, she obviously picked up on the fact they were not out for just a normal walk

also this episode confirmed mrs.lawrence does have some sort of mental illness, coupled with the fact she is not adjusted to gilead

i pretty much knew june seeing hannah at school was not going to work out. but damn that school is heavily guarded. And were some of the girls tied together or were they just holding onto the same rope?

honestly kind of appreciated the minimal commander lawrence this week. he hasn’t really done anything worthwhile for me this season 

the last scene.... what plot armor does june have? first her shopping partner tells aunt lydia about the martha and the martha is punished but not june. then june stares down aunt lydia in front of guards and nothing happens, and then she attacks her shopping partner and there are guards in the distance watching and she’s able to just walk off? again this is in no way a complaint about june. (go badass june!) im just confused by the writing

the waterfords are really at home in dc

how poetic that we are reminded all the houses the commanders and wives live in are stolen. literally the newspaper on the table was about the terror attack and then we see serena walking around in her fancy clothes, completely uncaring about the people who used to live there.

i totally get emily being distant from her wife because her wife at the end of the day doesn’t understand what she has gone through and emily doesn’t think she’ll understand that she doesn’t feel bad for what she did in gilead to survive

you can see the love is still there between them especially when emily was talking to moira about meeting her when they dated.. but like moira said a few episodes ago its not always a happy ending. and both of them have changed a lot so just because they still love and care for each other does not mean they are going to work
