Amazing tapestries by Christina Forrer (b. 1978, Zurich), lives and works in Los Angeles.
Her inspirations include early 20th century German Expressionism (particularly the tapestries German painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880-1938) made with Swiss artist Lise Gujer (1893-1967)), and Swedish textile artist Hannah Ryggen.
“It’s usually something that happens in my daily life or that I see, a fight between two individuals, a conflict where there’s aggression towards you,” Christina Forrer said in a 2016 video from the Swiss Institute. “From the first second we are born, conflict kind of guides our lives. I think it’s what makes people do things, good or bad.” = Christina Forrer
Christina Forrer creates tapestries, paintings, and works on paper depicting wildly dense scenes of conflict and debate. Crude figures argue, revolt, and assault one another; the compositions depict scenes of violence, torture, and aggressive embrace. The figures in Forrer’s works possess large eyes, mouths agape, and aghast expressions; they appear to be generationally tied, as if all part of the same wild, comically horrifying family.
Forrer’s practice is rooted in a tradition of tapestry and invested in the materials that construct such works, carefully weaving in color to create eclectic palettes and crafty, abject characters. She has had solo exhibitions at Luhring Augustine, New York (2019); SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah (2019); Swiss Institute, New York (2017); The Finley, Los Angeles (2016); and Grice Bench, Los Angeles (2016; 2014). She has also participated in group exhibitions at Lever House, New York (2017); Jewish Museum, New York (2015); and Midway Contemporary, Minneapolis (2015).

INSPIRATION FROM ART
As a poet, I cannot deny that I draw inspiration from my personal experiences; however, I would be reducing and limiting my work if I did not look for inspiration from art. With this in mind, I want to recommend a wonderful yet often unknown museum in Atlanta: the SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion and Film. Before the pandemic, I went to most new exhibits, but like most people, it took me a long time to resume my cultural activities in person. Early in January, I went back to SCAD FASH to see the new exhibit and would like to encourage my students who live in the Greater Atlanta region to go. The entrance fee is very reasonable (less than a movie ticket today), and there is plenty of free parking at the same level as the museum's entry.
NOTE: If you go, take the time to watch the video interview of Sandy Powell (costume designer for movies) featuring both directors and actors. This was a very educational and enlightening short film ;)

These are the two current exhibits.

Neighbourhood Guide To Atlanta’s Awe-Inspiring Art Galleries and Event Spaces
Tumblr media
There's nowhere better in the world to take in a fine art gallery in Atlanta, especially for those who want to feed their minds with thought-provoking paintings and sculptures. Although Midtown is known as the "heart of the arts," there are fine art galleries in Atlanta, from Buckhead to Castleberry Hill, that have inspiring pieces to satisfy every kind of visual hunger. Fabulous art can be found in these galleries and event locations, no matter where you live. Also, explore the finest art pieces by renowned artists like McKay Otto, Craig Alan, J.P. Goncalvez, Parish Kohanim, Henrik Abedian, and more.
Midtown
High Museum of Art
One of the top 20 art museums in the nation is Atlanta's High Museum of Art. The High is home to a wide range of artists and viewpoints, including a growing collection of African art spanning prehistory to the present, a sizable holding of European paintings and works on paper, and an extensive anthology of 19th and 20th-century American fine and decorative arts. It also boasts significant holdings of photography and folk and self-taught work, particularly that of artists from the American South.
The High is a community-focused place that hosts frequent activities for a variety of age and interest groups, including young professionals, elderly, teenagers, and toddlers.
Atlanta Contemporary
The Atrium Wall is one of Atlanta Contemporary's features. The wall, which is 20 feet long and 14 feet high, advances an artist's work by allowing them to create an installation that is unique to the location. Every mural project is visible for a full year. These installations serve as transient one-person shows. (2) Sliver Space. Local artists use the little space of the walls to construct on-site works in this actual slice of a gallery. (3) The Chutes. The old coal chute is where Chute Space is situated. It gives artists the chance to produce and exhibit immersive works that are tailored to a particular location. Atlanta Contemporary always offers free admission.
SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film
The SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film honours cinema as an engrossing and unforgettable medium, clothes as significant conduits of identity, and fashion as a worldwide language. Its shows honour the legacy and unique cultural contributions of the masters of fashion and film while evoking their thoughts and desires. Their innovative and thought-provoking exhibitions strive to be a creative resource for students of all ages and a wellspring of inspiration for visitors. SCAD is the global leader for arts and design in higher education.
Museum of Design Atlanta
The Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA), which is situated right across the street from the High Museum of Art, is dedicated to the study of design in all its manifestations. The MODA display on 3-D printing and its global influence was one of the more interesting ones. MODA provides funding for youth programmes that are both online and in-person. Chalk painting and calligraphy, video game design, and Minecraft are the subjects of recent instances. Design can address the major issues of the twenty-first century, such as how to combat climate change and create a just and equitable society, in addition to improving our everyday lives.
Gallery 72
The address of Gallery 72 is 72 Marietta St., first floor of the historic Atlanta Journal and Constitution Building. Three zones comprise the 3,400-square-foot lobby renovation: the entry lobby, the north gallery, and the south gallery. While the north gallery specialises on digital artwork, the south gallery showcases a range of artistic mediums.
ZuCot Gallery
The largest fine art gallery in the Southeast owned by African Americans is called ZuCot Gallery. Situated in the esteemed Castleberry Hill neighbourhood of downtown Atlanta, the gallery aims to showcase original artwork created by contemporary African-American artists and offer valuable and distinctive services that elevate the art-collecting experience for both new and experienced patrons.

Outside Influence
I went to the SCAD Museum event where they were showcasing artists' works and one stood out to me. I only took pictures of 4 of the 12 moons presented but these were by far my favorite. These works of art were made by Ann Craven. These works all have the same setting, a tree is blocking the way to the moon. But, how they present that is all different. The colors are either warm or cold, one tree or multiple.

[Field Trip - February 28th, 2023] SCAD deFINE ART 2023 at SCAD Museum of Art
I went to the SCAD deFINE ART 2023 opening party, and I had an opportunity to experience many works of art from different mediums. I thought Graphic Design is just working on the computer but after the show, I accumulated various inspirations to open my mind to my creative work. It helped me think further about the medium which I can use to break down my idea into the graphic. And the color which the artists used in their works were very impressive and helped me learn more about how to mix colors.
I was impressed with Jorge Pardo's installation when he set up everyday items within the formal setting of the art space. These lamps are alive with color and form, hand-blown glass meticulously arranged.

I don't know who needs to hear this but please, for the love of god and all that is holy, do not attend Savannah College of Art and Design. They do not care about you, they only care about your money and they will let quite literally anything happen to you so long as they can cover it up. How they’re handling the COVID online classes situation alone should be enough to turn you away from them.
If you want a glimpse into what they're like, you should look at @mr.pinkypromise on instagram and what he’s going through. I’m really begging you guys for your own well being, don’t go to this school I can’t push this message hard enough

A New Exhibit Reveals a Secret Collection Amassed by Azzedine Alaïa
