#SAD. Scary. I will do it anyway. Overcome the shame and fear of failure or something.

Wonderful analysis! I knew they were based off of nationality-based stereotypes, but I didn’t think they were so intrinsically tied to wwll propaganda! I’ve got a lot of reading to do lol. And I loved how perfectly you articulated scout and spy’s relationship, that’s gonna be rotating in the brain for a good long while.
I’m currently creating a fanwork of my own. I thought it would be fun to see how TFI would have to adapt and change after the fall of the Mann family, Mann Co., and the robot wars, as well as what would happen towards the TF2 team themselves. For my purposes I’m gently putting aside a lot of the comic lore. I wanted to write about the high-stakes transitional period for the world after these titans fall, inspired from the transition to the post-cold war world. Still working out the kinks, and actually a lot of things, and I’m not entirely sure why I’m sharing this here, but I think I want to say thank you for this analysis. It’s been a while since I’ve seen something so loving and thought-out, and I really hope that one day I can make something like this as well. Maybe a good question would be how do you analyze a piece of media like this? Fascinating how you put it all together, how do you pick up all those pieces and transcribe them to words? I try to but I’m not that good yet. Got a lot of learning I’m excited to do.
Anyway, thanks for this! And did you ever end up checking out emesis blue? :]
TF2 analysis - on cultural references, context as characterization, and how to analyze comedy
-taps mic- HELLO, TEAM FORTRESS 2 COMMUNITY !
A while back, I received an ask requesting analysis of one of my favorite video games of all time and special interest of 12+ years, and you know I just had to go and turn that into a several thousand word essay for the reading pleasure of the people.
Because that shit got way too long, I’ve decided to put it into a post of its own. Hopefully a big title and no previous context being necessary will give more people an incentive to read it. I spent a long time on it and I think it’s pretty cool, and I would love some nice attention for my effort. ;w;
The ask I received went a little something like this:
Tumblr media
Below the cut, I will be replying to these questions individually. It touches on everything from Cold War propaganda to the media landscape at the game’s launch in 2007 to first-person shooters as a genre - all to gain a better understanding of author intent, expected audience reaction, characterization and themes.
