What gets me about the clayton/monica/ian thing is that when he goes off to the kitchen after his wife calls him in and they start arguing about Ian, iirc she shouts something like "You told me you never slept with her" and then that Ian looks just like their son, which suggests he's around the same age as their son? Then when Frank takes Monica to see him in S2 Clayton calls her sweetheart and honey and like, stutters(?) when trying to resist her. I wonder if, rather than Ian being his and Monica's mistake, he's actually a What If for Clayton? Like, maybe he actually really adored her but she was his brother's girl so Lucy was his fallback and so he settled with her. If Monica hadn't been so into Frank and had loved Clayton the way he loved her, then maybe Ian represents the start of the family they could've had together? It might explain why he never tried to reach out again...

i think, like with most people that love her, monica probably scares clayton, too. i think about him calling her sweetheart and honey all the time. he struggles to resist her, but she also has the potential to ruin his entire life. i think she represents what life could have been - but maybe not in such a nice way. she's kinda the bridge between two lives. she's the world he left behind - passionate, probably, but chaotic. monica, as she was, couldn't have been a partner to clayton either - and i wouldn't think monica considered than an option. maybe lucy was his fallback (i would like to know more, thanks!), but he's built a life and a family with her. ian.... is a complication to that. maybe to him, confirming ian's paternity or letting him in would mean falling back there. losing the stability he has, potentially losing his wife. more frank, more monica. but you're right, i do think ian would represent a lot of regret and fear for him. clayton did have a lot of curiosity and empathy when lip and ian came by. i think he must regret that lost time. i wish he'd supported ian in some way, but it's not like ian wanted to stick around either. gah, what a thing to explore!!

best episode for ian from s1-4 go (because most of s5 is great for him and later the show gets bad)

but anyways ummm i would say 2x11 bc ians like peak mommas boy and peak sweet best friend to mandy in it and he’s very perfect to me ☝️
