A monumentally sensible soul and melancholic writer, his works feature mostly that sweet, raw and unsettling period of life nestled among "just after childhood" and "adulthood", a period which most people tend to call adolescence but that has more to do with a sentimental age, not a physical one.
Writing mostly about people belonging to a certain social and economic class, from the small local burgeoisy and of old Moldavian descendance, Ionel Teodoreanu captures youth in it's purest and most innocently turbulent form.
He is a rare case of a successful author in his life and his brother, Păstorel Teodoreanu, is perhaps an even more exotic figure (I encourage you to read a bit about him. He was a lawyer, like his brother and most men in his family before him, a journalist, chef, restaurant owner, cookbooks author, epigramist, pamflet writer and veeeery politically sassy. He's a delight of a human being. Somehow, I've always associated him with Arghezi)
His wit, flowery prose, gorgeous motifs and breathtaking aesthetics are forever engraved in my soul.
His writings have shaped my childhood and my teenage years. He is, truly, my soul's most beloved writer and the strongest formative presence for my (still developing) writing.
