Dear Dev & Kajal,
You two are concrete proof that true love and happy endings belong to everyone. After hearing all that you two have gone through to finally be together I can’t help, but pray that you two never have to face any other heartache for the rest of your lives. You two deserve all the happiness in the world. That being said… Happy First Anniversary! This is just a little memento with the lyrics to that first song you two danced to at your reception a year ago. I hope you like it!
With Love,
Ben
How wrong Devraj was about Ben. He wasn’t a fan of being wrong, but when he was, he admitted it. Ben was not only a good friend to him, but he was going to be family. This was something Devraj was incredibly happy about. His gift was sentimental, but Dev couldn’t help, but share a secret look with his wife. While this song was romantic and the first song they danced to as husband and wife in the presence of their family members, they both knew which song was special to them. He could still feel the way the rain had chilled him to the bone and the searing heat of her touch that first night they were together. The 90’s song played in his mind like an echo as he remembered how unsure and nervous they were at the start of that evening, the storm bonding them to one another forever. Still, he smiled at his future brother-in-law in an appreciative manner. “Thanks Ben.”

birthday surprises | one shot
general notes; i love you and this was a fun little one.
For Kajal, this was unlike anything else she’d experienced. She’d had birthdays back home before and her parents had of course done their best in ensuring that she had the best day possible but this was going beyond that. She was married to the man she’d fallen madly in love with years and years ago—and she knew that he wouldn’t let the chance go by to make this a truly memorable day for her. So she’d done as he’d asked and gotten dressed in the saree he’d gifted her—truly loving the way the fabric fell against her skin, but even just the shade of the color reflecting off her body, reminding her once more about that time when she’d first worn this colored saree for him. Yellow—for that rain song that he’d sung in the car making her wonder if he’d found the actress more attractive than her. She’d wanted to ask him of course but—the moment had just never come up.
She slipped on the heels that Kiran had gifted her and was adjusting her pleats when she heard Dev’s voice asking if she was ready and sighed. “Idhaar aao na, check if I look okay?” They were going to the estate after all and while Devraj was adamant for Kajal not to think of it as her sasural, she would. She knew for him it was home and soon it would feel that way for her as well, but for now—she still felt a bit awkward around his parents, but especially his mother. When her husband entered the walk-in closet that she was getting ready in, she found herself glancing back at him shyly, hoping he told her how she looked before she had to ask.
Devraj silently understood though, like he did with most things and his lips were pressed against the hollow of her neck from behind making her feel all tingly inside. “Tum na—kahin bhi shuru hojate ho. Ab jaana nahi hai?” She was very excited about this surprise he’d mentioned—especially when he spoke about family. What could it be? She had a few thoughts but there was no way he’d choose her birthday as the time to bring up adoption or any other methods they could try in order to have their kids. And he especially wouldn’t be doing that at his parent’s home.
By the time they arrived at the large house—she could vividly feel the butterflies inside her belly and found herself growing more and more anxious about what could possibly be awaiting her inside the home. When she tried her door only for it not to open, she glanced his way. “Kya ho raha hai?” And within seconds, the smile on his face told her that this was no ordinary surprise. Devraj was definitely up to something and when she caught sight of the black satin blindfold he’d presented to her, she had to sigh. “Itna surprise hain ke main ghar theek se chal ke aa bhi nahi sakhti?”
He didn’t respond and instead waited for her to put it on which she did. This time though, she didn’t attempt to open her door, knowing he was so protective that he’d be at her side, guiding her into the home. But of course her Dev would go one step further, his arms were around her knees as he scooped her up bridal style into his arms, Kajal swatting at his shoulder. “Dev—nahi na, I don’t want anyone to see me aise.” But he told her that it was just until they entered the home and then he’d let her walk but there were steps in the front that Kajal remembered even if she hadn’t been here that many times to walk in blind. Still she was anxious for them to step over the threshold so that he’d let her down and she could walk normally and not have anyone of the family see them like that and of course tease them.
When he finally set her down, she was gripping his hand tightly. “Maine Kiran ki di hui nayi heels pehni hai, mujhe bas girne mat dena.” And of course her husband was not going to let that happen, he held onto her tightly enough to reassure her and so they both walked in. Kajal could hear the family in the distance and liked that light happy chatter that was happening, but it made her more curious to find out exactly what was going on inside and why she couldn’t see it yet.
She felt her husband’s breath on her ear and waited as he spoke, “tum tayaar ho aapne surprise ke liye?” And of course Kajal didn’t even trust herself to speak as she heard the entire room go quiet as soon as they both entered. So instead she just nodded and waited for him to tell her or rather show her. But he didn’t—instead she felt another set of hands take hers and she had to frown—these hands felt so familiar and she knew them but there was no way it was possible. How could her Nani be here? She had spoken with them just yesterday and it wasn’t possible but then—this was Devraj and he could make anything happen.
“Na—Nani?” She was hesitant in her guess, her voice barely heard as she ventured her guess only to have her blindfold gently lifted off her eyes which had her blinking a few times. But while she was still getting used to the brightness in the room, her eyes were filling with tears at the sight of her parents and her Nani in the Yashvardhan living room. They were actually here? Standing in front of her? She quickly reached over, eager to get her arms around the older woman, holding her close as she let out a soft sob. “Nani aap kaisi ho? Maa—Papa—aap kab aaye?” And that’s when she turned back to face her husband who was obviously beaming in their direction. “Tumne sach mein mujhe bahot hi bada surprise diya hai…” And she was hugging her parents tightly, knowing that she should move away and be respectful but she had missed them so much that it was hard to step away from them.
It was when her papa put his hand over Kajal’s head and smiled that she looked up at the man, “Maaf karna Veer saab, humari bachi kuch zyaada hi sentimental ho jaati hai kabhi kabhi,” he cupped her cheeks and gave her a kiss on the forehead while she heard her father-in-law laugh softly, “isiliye toh humari baanti hai itni—main bhi parivaar ko lekar kaafi emotional banda hoon.” And Kajal was smiling at the sight of both families intermingling, her mother now talking with Jhanvi di and Amrita while her Nani was sitting with Kiran, Krish and Laila leaving her father to chat with Veer, Benjamin and Rohit.
Only Devraj remained back, as if waiting for her to notice him and well—didn’t he realize that he was truly the centre of her world, she’d always know where he was and this moment was no different. She moved closer to him, her arms wrapping around him tightly as she took a deep breath. “I love you Devraj Yashvardhan, tumne mujhe bahot hi acchi wali surprise di hai aaj. Yeh sab—kaise kiya tumne?”

Lack of Regional Political Party in Karnataka
Politically, what differentiates Karnataka from other states of South India is the absence of a dominant and prominent regional political party. Almost every state in India has a strong regional party DMK and AIADMK (Tamil Nadu), YSR Congress and TDP (Andhra Pradesh), Shiv Sena (Maharashtra), Biju Janata Dal (Orissa) and Trinamool Congress (West Bengal).
The state has witnessed many regional parties like Chief Minister Devraj Urs’ Karnataka Kranti Ranga, former Chief Minister Bagarappa’s Karnataka Congress Paksha, businessman Vijay Sankeshwar’s Kannada Nadu Party, Chief Minister B S Yedurappa’s Karnataka Janata Party, but none could sustain long enough.
The only regional party in the state of any prominence is led by the former Prime Minister of India, Mr. Deve Gowda. Due to its limited presence within the state it cannot compete with the national parties.
The biggest drawback for a regional party in Karnataka has always been the lack of an ideology and a clear message to the people. All the regional parties in the state have been offshoots of personal ambition. Individuals who have had a personal vendetta or have been ignored in their respective parties go on to form a new political party. There is no background or a strong history that these parties can build on.
It is always that interests of the state are well upheld by a regional party over a National Party. To be one of the best states in India and to achieve a higher level of development and governance, the state of Karnataka requires a strong regional party and slip out of the high command’s control. The two main dominant parties in Karnataka, BJP and Congress, are always answerable to a high command. At present the state government is run by a national party. Directly or indirectly, the fingerprints of the high command are smeared all over the decisions taken in policy making and governance pertaining to the state.

Siddaramaiah, post Karnataka bypoll results, resigns as Cong’s legislature leader - india news
Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah has resigned as the party’s legislature party (CLP) leader in Karnataka in the wake of Congress’ dismal performance in the state bypolls. The BJP gave a stunning performance, winning 12 of the 15 seats on which elections were held last week.“In a democracy, we have to accept verdict of people. People have spoken and we respect that. We were expecting the disqualified MLAs would be taught a lesson, that has turned out to be false. So I accept the verdict of the people,” he said after the results were declared on Monday.“I have sent my resignation to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and a copy to AICC in charge K C Venugopal and KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao,” he added. The BJP had come to power in July this year after 17 Congress and Janata Dal Secular lawmakers were disqualified from the assembly under the anti-defection law, toppling the previous HD Kumaraswamy government.“Voters have blessed us in 12 of the 15 seats. We have won because of the efforts of party workers and our leaders. I would like to thank our national leaders - Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah,” Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said. The highlight was the BJP’s win in Krishnarajapete (KR Pete), a rural seat in the Janata Dal Secular’s stronghold of old Mysuru region. BJP candidate Narayana Gowda pulled off an upset victory against JD(S) candidate Devraj in K R Pete. It was one of the few seats - a Vokkaliga stronghold - that the BJP had never won in Karnataka. Vokkaligas have traditionally supported the JD(S); former chief minister HD Kumarawamy is a Vokkaliga.Accepting defeat, senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar said party has to agree with the mandate of the voters. “We have to agree with the mandate of the voters of these 15 constituencies. People have accepted the defectors. We have accepted defeat, I don’t think we have to be disheartened,” Shivakumar said. The bypolls were necessitated because of the resignation of 17 legislators from the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) alliance in July. These MLAs had joined the saffron fold and the BJP fielded 16 of them in Thursday’s bypolls. The bypolls were held on 15 of the 17 vacant seats because pleas challenging the results in two seats in 2018 are being heard by the Karnataka high court. The BJP needed to win six of the 15 seats on which the elections were held. After the disqualification of the MLAs by the Supreme Court for joining the BJP, the strength of the house was reduced to 208. The halfway mark too was revised to 105 - the number which the BJP had. After the bypolls, the strength of the state Assembly went up to 224, and the halfway mark revised to 112. Now the party seems to have secured that number. Source link Read the full article

Jayanta’s Peck
Fellow Bhakt’s, let’s talk about a character in the Ramayana known by the name of Jayanta, the son of Devraj Indra and Indrani. In the Ramayana, there is a story involving Jayanta in which he took the form of a crow and pecked Sita’s breast, which Ram was asleep, during their stay at Chitrakuta. Ram then awakens and sees the blood which enrages him causing him to launch the Brahmastra at the crow. Keep in mind that the Brahmastra is a nuclear mystical weapon, whose sole purpose is to destroy the thing it is aimed at and for the most part cannot be retracted. It has to go somewhere towards something! Also note that this weapon is powerful enough to cause the destruction of the entire universe.
What I find to be problematic is that in one version of the Ramayana that I watched on TV, Jayanta is shown pecking at Sita’s feet. When I went to look up what the true story is, it stated that she was pecked in the breasts, however some versions of the Ramayana altered breasts to be feet. Perhaps this is a harmless modification to some, but here is why it’s not harmless.
I think that this story was presented in the epic to serve a very important purpose which is advocating for women, their protection, and the consequences of violating a woman in her private parts without her consent. Replacing breast with feet 100% deters from that message. Think about it, why would the Lord of the Universe decide to launch a universe-destroying missile on someone for pecking at one’s feet? No reason! Chickens can also peck, if you’re standing on the ground, ants, bugs, etc. can crawl on and off, if you remain still for a while in any grassy environment. Ram isn’t going to pull out a Brahmastra every time an ant crawls on Sita. What he IS going to do as an “ideal man” and “ideal husband” is PROTECT his wife if another man violates her inappropriately. AND please notice how when she was violated he DID NOT victim blame. He DID NOT chastise her and called her names such as “impure” and “unfit” like how people in the brown community do when events like these occur in their lives.
What he did do was
1. NOT victim blame
2. Ensure she was safe
3. Decided that a crime such as violating the personal space of a woman is punishable BY death and he was willing the end the universe if it came to that.
4. He was ASLEEP when the event occurred and YET he believed her which is to prove that an ideal husband should believe events such as their wife’s assault and NOT ask for witnesses.
Shying away from a small detail as to where Sita was pecked is setting an example that our community (humans in general) can easily change the details of whatever situations we want to without advocating for JUSTICE.
Ultimately what was Jayanta’s punishment? The Brahmastra affected his eye leaving him blind in one eye. One MUST NOT utilize their bodily functions to commit sins. Jayanta knowingly TARGETED Sita, he assaulted her breasts WITHOUT her consent, and he saw parts of her body she probably did not want him to see, thus the LOSS of VISION.
You CANNOT say that you are a Bhakt and worship God without believing in Women’s Rights, advocating for women to be safe at all times by setting an appropriate precedent i.e. Jayanta loosing his vision, and NEVER violating their bodily autonomy.
If you do so or allow these things to happen in your presence, NO amount of prayers, pujas, or tapasya will save you or any perpetrator from this grave sin.
This story was included for this lesson to be learned, altering it DOES not serve the general masses in any capacity. We cannot ALTER content like this just because our communities are allergic to talking about the concepts of sex, sexual activity, and its consequences. These stories exist to show us what we ought to do when things like that occur. God knew things like sexual assault would happen, which is why the precedent is set for us to follow. What good is it doing anyone by changing “breasts” to “feet”? Some will then claim, “God didn’t say anything anywhere about sexual abuse, oh well we’ll just let it happen,” and dismiss the victims of sexual assault/abuse. But he did, God is NOT opposed to addressing the issues surround sex, in fact this topic is present all over the scriptures along with its consequences. YOU and YOUR culture is against talking about s e x. Evaluate and make these adjustments. Have these conversations with your family and communities. Might I remind you that it is also a SIN to know what is right and remain silent/inactive due to societal pressures.
If Ram was willing to END THE WORLD for Sita being pecked at, imagine what the consequences are for doing much worse to a woman. Even if a perpetrator is not punished now, rest assured they will spend thousands of millennia’s atoning for this GRAVE sin. How will you face God knowing that you disobeyed his most important rule of protecting women? You won't be allowed to face him.
Jai Shri Krishna
