Friday is the busiest day of the week for new releases, so we've decided to collect them all in one place. Friday Releases for September 11 include Buoyancy, Rent-A-Pal, The Duchess, and more.

Buoyancy

Buoyancy, the new movie from Rodd Rathjen, is out today.

Spirited 14-year-old Chakra works the rice fields with his family. He yearns for independence and seeks out a local broker who can get him paid work in a Thai factory. Without telling his family, Chakra travels to Bangkok to make his fortune. But when he gets there, he and his new friend Kea realise the broker has lied to them. Along with other Cambodians and Burmese, they are sold to a fishing captain as slaves.

Rent-A-Pal

Rent-A-Pal, the new movie from Jon Stevenson, is out today.

Set in 1990, a lonely bachelor named David (Brian Landis Folkins) searches for an escape from the day-to-day drudgery of caring for his aging mother (Kathleen Brady). While seeking a partner through a video dating service, he discovers a strange VHS tape called Rent-A-Pal. Hosted by the charming and charismatic Andy (Wil Wheaton), the tape offers him much-needed company, compassion, and friendship. But, Andy’s friendship comes at a cost, and David desperately struggles to afford the price of admission.

I Am Woman

I Am Woman, the new movie from Unjoo Moon, is out today.

1966. Helen Reddy arrives in New York with her three-year-old daughter, a suitcase and $230 in her pocket. She had been told she'd won a recording contract, but the record company promptly dashes her hopes by telling her it has enough female stars and suggests she has fun in New York before returning home to Australia. Helen, without a visa, decides to stay in New York anyway and pursue a singing career, struggling to make ends meet and provide for her daughter. There she befriends legendary rock journalist Lillian Roxon, who becomes her closest confident. Lillian inspires her to write and sing the iconic song "I Am Woman" which becomes the anthem for the second wave feminist movement and galvanises a generation of women to fight for change. She also meets Jeff Wald, a young aspiring talent manager who becomes her agent and husband. Jeff helps her get to the top, but he also suffers from a drug addiction, which gradually turns their relationship toxic. Caught in the treadmill of fame and dependent on Jeff to manage her professional life, Helen finds the strength to take control of her own career and keep pursuing her dreams.

The Duchess, the new TV series from Katherine Ryan, is out today.

Katherine’s a single mom juggling her career, her tween daughter, her relationship with her boyfriend — and pondering getting pregnant with her ex.

The Gentle Fall

The Gentle Fall, the new album from Serengeti, is out today.

Iowa Duo Featured in Flowrestling's Top 20 for Class of 2021 rankings.

With the new school year quickly approaching that means its time for high school ranking services to begin updating their class rankings for each grade after factoring in summer results. Last week Flowrestling’s Willie Saylor updated his class of 2020 rankings, and instead of listing the top 100 he doubled down and expanded his list to 200. Four Iowa natives made the list for 2020.
