Pirates Thump Twins 12-1.
Pirates 12 Twins 1 W-Ferguson (1-0) L-Lopez (0-1)
The Minnesota Twins returned home to host a young Pirates team down in Fort Myers. The Pirates had their hitting shoes on this afternoon. Pittsburgh got the scoring started in the second inning when DJ Stewart lined a one-out double to left and Enmanuel Valdez walked. Nick Solak doubled home a run and Jack Suwinski plated a pair with a single to right. This put the Pirates up by three, but the Twins would answer in the bottom of the second. Christian Vazquez, Ty France and Harrison Bader started the rally with one-out singles. Matt Wallner was hit by a pitch, which plated a run. The Pirates added on in the fourth with a Nick Solak lead-off double. Jack Suwinski doubled him home to pad the Pittsburgh lead. Pittsburgh got back to work in the sixth with a Nick Solak single and Alika Williams doubled him home. Two batters walked and Oneil Cruz plated a run on a groundout. Joey Bart hit a sac fly to center to give the Pirates a six-run lead. Pittsburgh kept adding on in the eighth, Jack Brannigan doubled home a run and the bases were quickly loaded after that. Omar Alfonzo drew a bases loaded walk and a wild pitch plated another run. Tsung-Che Cheng hit a sac fly and Matt Gorski doubled home another run. This put Pittsburgh up 12-1 and they didn't look back. Yohan Ramirez had a scoreless eighth and Wilkin Ramos fanned two in the ninth as the Pirates beat the Twins today.
-Final Thougths- Pablo Lopez got knocked around today. He went two-plus innings and allowed three runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Cody Laweryson retired one man and Kade Bragg eventually got out of the third. Ersamo Ramirez gave up a run in the fourth, Jorge Alcala struck out one in the fifth, and Cole Sands gave up three runs in 2/3 of an inning. Jacob Bosiokovic struck out three and retired four men. Ryan Jensen gave up five over 1/3 of an inning and Jarret Whorff retired five men. Ty France continues to have a good spring with two hits. The Twins hit 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Tomorrow, Zach Eflin faces Zebby Matthews as the Orioles come to Fort Myers.

PFL Presents Francis Ngannou vs Renan Ferreria On October 19th
youtube
So going as far back as March of 2024, Ngannou had stated that he would compete again in MMA, and the PFL, in my opinion have put together a heavyweight fight worthy of looking forward to.
There's a lot at stake here.
Francis Ngannou's foray into boxing was both positive and negative, where he looked very impressive against Tyson Fury and then was blown out of the water by Anthony Joshua 4 months later.
Then you have to factor the financial investment that the PFL have made in Francis, and it would look kind of crazy if the uncrowned UFC champion were to get dominated by a no name Brazilian who isn't even on the UFC's radar.
Then there's Renan Ferreira and the threat that he poses, and he is a guy that has some clout.
With wins over Ryan Bader and Fabricio Werdum (though later overturned to a no contest), means that Ferreira is the PFL's standout heavyweight, and unlike Ngannou has been very active over the last 2 years.
youtube
Ngannou's last MMA bout took place all the way back in January of 2022, against Cyril Gane, and Ferreira is a very different opponent to Gane.
Firstly, is Renan Ferreira's jiu-jitsu background, which he used to great effect in his 2023 bout with Fabricio Werdum, as Werdum was the one to initiate the takedown, which ended really badly for him.
Renan Ferreira is 6 foot 8. A reach advantage he has used to devastating effect against the other PFL heavyweights like Ryan Bader and Denis Goltsov.
When range meets knockout power and aggression, you get Renan Ferreira.
Whatever Ngannou's game plan is, it will surely begin with a strong boxing base, and for as good as Renan's previous opponents were, none of them had anything close to Francis' power.
While Ngannou should avoid head hunting, finding his range with boxing will force Renan into a backwards motion and relying on counter punching and leg kicks.

You can feel that it's a reach, but Renan Ferreira has more than a good chance to put himself on the world stage by winning this and he should not be a heavy underdog by anyone's odds.
A novelty fight, and the PFL does deserve some respect for having an opponent like Ferreira and it should be a barn burner, given the novelty of a fight this big being hosted somewhere other than the UFC.
