Russetfoot - Stunclan's Deputy
A 58-moon old medium-furred colorpoint with blue eyes. Sparrowleaf’s littermate. He is known for being compassionate and a good teacher.
Russetfoot wants nothing more than to prove himself to Pebblestun, but he knows that he is far from ready to take over Stunclan. The plague started just after Russetfoot took the deputy position, and it was a trial by fire for him. The two butted heads a lot before Russetfoot realized that Pebblestun had a lot more experience and wisdom than he does.
Pebblestun relies heavily on Russetfoot, though Russetfoot doesn't give himself enough credit for it. He is a very analytical thinker, and strives to always do what's best for Stunclan. It's for that reason that he agreed to have kits with Hillspot.

______________________________________________________________
Meadowpaw woke up the next morning with the sun shining on her pelt making it look like fire, but the cold still clung to her pelt like a mouse and a piece of cheese. She sighed and sat up, then she decided to go to the Medicine Den and help Volepelt with the cats with greencough.
She had entered the Medicine Den and called to Volepelt, "Yes?" He replied looking up from his work, "Can I help?" asked Meadowpaw, "Yes of course."He replied turning back to his work, "Grab some Catmint and make Deerflight eat it." She grabbed some Catmint just as Volepelt had said then padded over to Deerflight, the golden-brown she-cat was curled up in a ball. Meadowpaw nudged her gently with a paw, "Please eat this, it'll help with your cough." She meowed, "Fine" grumbled Deerflight taking the catmint, "Good." she replied. Leaving Deerflight to rest. "Thank you, Meadowpaw." Thanked Volepelt, "You can leave now." Meadowpaw nodded then padded out of the den. When she left she saw Tigerbreeze making a patrol and Ferntail and Songmist rushing their kits into the nursery, Sunfang was taking Swiftpaw for training with Russetfoot and Hawkpaw, Shortcreek Sedgeheart and Featherfoot were sharing tongues outside of the elders' den, while Cinderpaw and Tanglepaw sat beside them sharing stories, and the rest of the cats were hunting and battle training. Meadowpaw sighed, this is what a Clan is supposed to be. She yawned padding into the apprentice's den to have a nap.

Ooh so there was this tumblr I used to follow that did a Warriors naming system where the prefix represented appearance and the suffix represented personality, so I'm definitely going with that.
I feel like Gabriella-cat would be solid at both hunting and fighting (-fang), and her appearance probably translates to brownish-black. So we'll call her Batfang.
Sonya would be a golden cat, and none of the talent or personality suffixes especially fit her, so I think Honeypelt would be a nice name for her.
Same for Brandon, honestly, so we'll use the other "average" suffix for him. I think he'd be a brownish black cat. We'll call him Shadowfur.
Joey is notably chill and unruffled (-cloud) and his hair and beard are brown. I like Ottercloud for him.
Cammie is the manic-pixie type so I bet Cammie-cat would be quite speedy (-foot), and she has reddish-brown hair, so we'll call her Russetfoot.
Hailey's thing is she tends to overthink and overanalyze, which I think might actually translate as a cat to being a good hunter (-whisker). She has sandy brown hair, but I don't think they're near the beach (in this system you're supposed to consider location). The next thing I think of is a deer. Deerwhisker.
Seth has reddish-brown hair (darker than Cammie's) and as a cat he'd probably be surefooted with a good sense of balance-- he's certainly very natural about balancing his life as a college freshman-- so I think for him we can go with Cypresstail.
If you were around in the early 2000s, you likely were aware of the Warriors series, a long-running (still technically ongoing) book series about cats out in the wild. The names used in this series were special to each character and generally related to their looks or personality. If you're not familiar with the series, a quick Google search will let you know more about naming conventions.
In previous years, we've discussed what daemons are characters would have. If you know that and would like to share it, please do! But with this post, I'm encouraging you to provide us all with the Warriors names YOUR characters would have!

WC AU; Prologue
i said that this was gonna be posted around 3:30 est but that failed bc my dad forgot he had a third child he needed to pick up so
Ao3 Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/23130670/chapters/55354048
Four cats padded through the snow, ears flattened against the wind. One of them, an orange tom, froze in his spot, his ears twitching. The rest of the patrol continued, the lead of which only seemed to notice the tom’s sudden disappearance when a flash of orange fur caught his eye.
“Russetstep!” He called, halting the rest of the patrol. “Where are you going?”
“Probably back across the border to his twolegs,” a young golden tom snarked under his breath. The spotted she-cat beside him swatted at his head, letting out a low hiss, and the patrol lead shot him a cold stare.
Russetstep, oblivious to the conversation going on behind him, bounded over a hill and vanished for a moment before reappearing with a small orange shape dangling from his jaws. The lead of the patrol’s eyes narrowed at the sight for a moment before flying open.
“Oh, sweet StarClan,” he whispered before running towards Russetstep as fast as his twisted paw would allow, the rest of the patrol following.
“Kits?!” The spotted she-cat exclaimed, pacing around Russetstep as he gently placed the one he was carrying on the ground.
“Young ones, too,” the patrol lead meowed. “Where’s their mother?”
“I don’t know,” Russetstep frowned. “There’s no scent of anyone but these three around.” The spotted she-cat sniffed the brown kit, who squeaked and ducked behind Russetstep.
“What do we do with them?” The golden tom asked the patrol lead.
“We obviously have to bring them back to camp,” Russetstep said, his fur bristling. “They won’t last out here; it’s the dead of leaf-bare!”
“I agree with Russetstep,” the spotted she-cat nodded. “We can’t just leave kits alone in the wild to die. It’s cruel! And besides, it’s against the warrior code. Deadfoot?”
The patrol lead was quiet for a moment as he considered. “Spottedhare and Russetstep are right, Ryetail. We cannot just leave kits to suffer the cold alone. We will take them back to camp, and speak to Tallstar about this.”
Ryetail scoffed, but didn’t argue. Deadfoot picked up the black kit, Spottedhare the brown one, and Russetstep the orange. Ryetail’s tail lashed, and he padded a few tail-lengths behind the rest of the patrol.
Now that they had kits with them, the patrol moved faster, whispering the occasional words of encouragement to the kits whenever one of them started to get antsy. It wasn’t long before they were back at the camp, Spottedhare whisking the kits off to the nursery to fawn over them. Deadfoot and Russetstep padded over to a black and white tom, settling down next to him.
“Tallstar?” Deadfoot meowed. The tom turned to look at him. “Russetstep found three abandoned kits while on patrol with no sign of their mother. What should we do with them?” Tallstar paused, turning to look at Russetstep.
“We can’t leave them out there to die, Tall!” Russetstep hissed, his fur spiking up. “They’re kits! Barely nine weeks old!”
“We can’t keep them in WindClan forever, either,” Deadfoot reminded him. “Even if their mother didn’t seem to be anywhere nearby, it doesn’t mean that she’s not looking for them.”
“I was kept in WindClan, and I’m not from here,” Russetstep reminded him.
“You were allowed to stay and given your warrior name with a lot of backlash. Even now, many cats within the Clan are still bitter about it,” Deadfoot pointed out. Russetstep looked away.
Tallstar, who had been quiet up until this point, finally spoke. “Having listened to you both, I think I’ve come to a decision.” The two toms quieted, turning their attention to their leader. “We’ll keep the kits, and we’ll care for them.” Russetstep perked up, and Tallstar raised his tail to silence him. “But if their mother comes looking for them, we will give her kits back.”
Both Deadfoot and Russetstep seemed satisfied by this. Tallstar opened his mouth to continue, but was interrupted by Deadfoot’s hacking cough. The other two toms waited for Deadfoot’s body to stop heaving from the effort of his coughs, worry clouding their eyes.
“Perhaps you should go see Barkface,” Tallstar suggested, his tail flicking anxiously. “Your cough only seems to have gotten worse.” Deadfoot started to argue, but broke off with a sigh, shaking his head as he stood and walked off to the medicine den.
Russetfoot watched the deputy go before shaking off his worry, turning to Tallstar with a spark of excitement in his eyes. “Our very own kits, Tallstar!” He murmured, nuzzling his mate’s cheek. “Can you believe it?”
Tallstar’s eyes softened as he curled around Russetfoot, and he gazed at the nursery. “They’ll become strong warriors, Russetfoot. I’m sure of it.”

Hillspot - A Stunclan Warrior
A 42-moon old dark brown and white she-cat with yellow eyes. Ebonyshade’s littermate. She has a strong sense of duty and is very sweet.
Hillspot mated with Russetfoot because the clan needs kits - especially kits with two powerful lineages! She feels strongly that she has to keep Stunclaw's bloodline going. She does love her kits as individuals, but she also mythologizes what they represent for Stunclan's future.
The plague left her chronically tired, and Houndfrost is really the only cat who acknowledges it and offers help.

Ebonyshade - A Stunclan Warrior
A dark-grey spotted tabby tom with medium length fur and yellow eyes. He is Hillspot’s littermate, and 42 moons old.
He's a strict mentor and a great speaker, but he has a reputation for being lazy. This comes from the fact that he relies a lot on his lineage, and grew up thinking it would carry him. While he would never challenge Russetfoot, he truly thinks he would've made a better deputy because of his blood. In reality, he definitely doesn't have the drive to improve that was needed to get Stunclan through the plague.
He is mates with Houndfrost, and they're actively trying to have kits. He does love Houndfrost, but one wonders whether they would even have considered kits if lineage wasn't so important to their clan.

Sparrowleaf - A Stunclan Warrior
A grey and white short-furred tabby tom with dark blue eyes. 56 moons. Russetfoot's littermate.
Like Russetfoot, Sparrowleaf is analytical and thoughtful. They both get that from their mother, who had retired to the elder's den early and spent many moons advising the previous leader.
Sparrowleaf strives to be the best warrior he can possibly be, and is known for being very hard working. During the plague, he spent most of his time out of camp, hunting for the whole clan. He's the kind of cat who would make a great father, but because of his standing in the clan and lack of a good bloodline, he realizes that this likely won't be in the cards for him. Instead, he does his best to be an amazing uncle for Russetfoot's kits.

Fernkit and Tansykit - Stunclan's Kits
Fernkit and Tansy kit are the 2 moon-old kits of Hillspot and Russetfoot.
They are held up as the future of their clan, with all the pressure that contains.
Tansykit is a brown and white medium furred kit with golden eyes. She is daring and curious.
Fernkit is a color point kit with blue eyes. He is insecure, and constantly worries about what his full name will be, even as a kit.

Meadowpaw blinked her yellow eyes open and sat up, she looked around and saw Swiftpaw lying in the nest her eyes open and looking at Hawkpaw, Meadowpaw's brother. "Swiftpaw?" Meadowpaw meowed, "Oh-" Swiftpaw stammered "I-I wasn't doing anything. N-not like I was staring at Hawkpaw..." Meadowpaw laughed quietly, "Okay?" Swiftpaw looked at her paws. "C'mon; Frostclaw wants you and Sunfang to meet us at Soft Field." Meowed Meadowpaw nudging Swiftpaw up.
By the time they had left camp and went to Soft Field, Sunfang, Swiftpaw's mentor was waiting for them with Frostclaw at his side, "Greetings." Meowed Frostclaw, "Hi." Meadowpaw replied to her mentor, "What are we doing today?" She asked, "Well, we're going to Battle Train." The smokey warrior replied, Sunfang nodded. "Ok, Meadowpaw and Swiftpaw you will battle each other." Meowed Sunfang, "Okay" replied Meadowpaw and Swiftpaw together. They got into their positions then waited for their mentor's to start the fight, "FIGHT!" Meadowpaw heard Sunfang yowl. Swiftpaw leaped onto Meadowpaw then Meadowpaw kicked her underbelly she slid across the ground then came up onto the long furred she-cat, Meadowpaw slid under her and raked her stomach, Swiftpaw yowled and grasped Meadowpaw's tail, she shook her off then Meadowpaw stopped. "What?" Swiftpaw asked stopping, "I smell something" Meadowpaw answered seeing the fear in Swiftpaw's eyes, "Its probably nothing." Swiftpaw looked up at Meadowpaw her fur bristling, "Okay" she meowed. "Why did you stop?" hissed Sunfang looking at the apprentices "Continue Battling!" Added Frostclaw, Meadowpaw guessed they mustn't of smelled it.
Meadowpaw, Swiftpaw and their mentors had returned from the training and were walking into the camp, "Frostclaw!" Meowed Sparrowstar as they entered the camp, "yes?" asked the smokey warrior, "follow me." replied Sparrowstar. Frostclaw and Sparrowstar raced off to the nursery, then Sunfang went to share tongues with his den mates. "Well I'm going to look for Hawkpaw." Mewed Swiftpaw padding over to the apprentices den. She really does have a thing for him. Thought Meadowpaw looking up at the sky, well I'm happy for him; he might already have a future mate. She walked over to the Medicine Den, to see if any cat was injured. When she entered she was surprised to see Deerflight a golden tabby she-cat lying in a nest with Volepelt leaning over her with Catmint in his jaws, "What happened?" Meowed Meadowpaw her eyes pressed to her head, "Deerflight has caught greencough." Replied Volepelt, "Oh no!" she meowed looking at Deerflight, "She isn't the first," sighed Volepelt "Tigerpelt caught it this morning." StarClan don't take them... She muttered then excited the Medicine Cat den.
The next morning Meadowpaw could feel the cold biting at her pelt, she guessed the other apprentice's felt the same; they were all clumped together like newborn kits. "G-guys..." Shivered Tanglepaw "Why is it so... COLD???" Swiftpaw rolled her eyes, "For the thirty forth time... WE DON'T KNOW." Tanglepaw looked at her, "Okay..." he hissed. "Let's come outside maybe Its warmer in the camp?" Meowed Meadowpaw, "Okay!" the other apprentices replied.
They exited the apprentice's den and felt the cold biting at them even hard now, "You were wrong." meowed Tanglepaw and Hawkpaw, "Sorry, guys." Sighed Meadowpaw, It really is cold she thought to herself.

Stunclan Notes
Stunclan cats are stereotypically sturdy and thick, capable of surviving and adapting.
Stunclan is known for being curious and studious, always looking for better ways to do things. Because of this, apprentices often take a very long time to become warriors, and both mentors and parents can be harsh with their expectations.
Familial ties are incredibly important to Stunclan, and families can be clique-ish.
This pressure leads to a lot of personal issues. For example:
Pebblestun feels like he isn’t enough because the things he tries always seem to cause problems
Mousegorse entirely refused to take an apprentice because his own apprenticeship was traumatizing
Hillspot has kits even though she doesn’t want them for the sake of continuing the family line of Stunclan's first leader
When the story begins, the entire clan feels muted. An illness recently swept through their clan, and now they are the smallest clan.
Mousegorse, their medicine cat, died of the illness without ever taking an apprentice. Russetfoot believes that Pebblestun needs to pick one of the kits and start training them in understanding the ancestor’s signs since he didn’t force Mousegorse to take an apprentice moons ago, but Pebblestun feels that he needs a clear sign from their ancestors since the kits are so young, and is depressed because he feels he cannot teach the kits properly.
Pebblestun is haunted by the deaths of this illness and of the past - every death he feels responsible for and every death he was unable to stop. He feels that Stunclan would have been better had he not become leader.
