Part 1 - Negotiations
Lady Arden
The gates to the courtyard opened and the delegation from the Citadel were welcomed into the keep of my uncle's castle. I watched their arrival from the window of my chambers, as my presence wouldn't be needed until later, after the three men who rode in were formally welcomed by my uncle and legal guardian, Ser Anthony of House Stark. Ever since my parents died of the wasting disease when I was still a child, he had overseen my preparation for life as the lady of a great lord. Unlike some of the fathers and guardians of other young women of my ilk, he had been rather progressive towards my education. Where others had been taught to walk and speak with grace, while learning the arts of needlework, music and art, my uncle had made sure I could do all of those, plus ride a horse, handle a sword, learn foreign languages, read and write more than just my name, and above all else, to carry myself as one who was as capable as any man. It was certainly not the usual life of a young woman.
My uncle had his reasons for my unusual upbringing; some of which he shared with me. Where other young women of my stature were being married off to whomever was politically in favour, in addition to receiving a generous dowry, my uncle was more interested in a particular man to become my husband. Lord James Barnes of the Citadel was his goal; a consummate warrior, well educated, able to speak several languages due to his travels, and the most powerful lord of our region. He had already been sought as husband for any number of simpering brides that didn't interest him. Rumours circulated by the unsuccessful families seeking to install their daughters as his lady said that he was a lover of men, or was damaged in body and spirit by his travels in dangerous lands, but my uncle had heard through unofficial sources that he preferred an accomplished woman to become his consort, as he saw value in intelligence above all else. By promoting my unconventional education, my uncle was certain that word of me would eventually reach the ears of those at the Citadel whose task it was to find a suitable mate for the great lord. That day had finally come.
That's not to say there weren't bumps in the road to this occasion. There are always men who want what they see as different or even exotic. Before I turned 14 my uncle was being offered great wealth for the promise of an engagement with any number of eligible sons. Several great houses in our land, Walker, Rumlow, Pierce, even Dreykov in the Russian region far to the east across the sea, had amped up the pressure for my uncle to accept one of their own as my future husband, but he wouldn't even entertain the offers that came over the years. It was some time before he shared that his goal was to align his house with the Citadel, and nothing less would interest him.
As I approached my 21st birthday, an age considered old for marriage, rumours began of my own shortcomings as a prospective bride. It was said I was vain, unattractive, too heavy, too thin, too unhealthy, defective in mind and spirit, even that I was barren due to the wasting disease that had killed my parents but had spared me. Knowing I was none of those, I always held my head high. At public occasions I was visible, open, and friendly with those around me. I acted as I had been taught; that I had a place in society, and it would be one of influence no matter if I were the wife of a great lord or not.
Thus, the arrival of the three men from the Citadel on that cool autumn afternoon was proof that my uncle had properly read the situation. It was clear that I was of interest to the most powerful lord, seen as an important counsellor for the next king himself. As the three men dismounted, they stood in their travelling cloaks, heads still covered, removing their gloves and, in the way of men of action, taking note of their surroundings. I could see that they assessed the guard complement in the keep, while searching the walls of the castle itself to see if their arrival had been noted. That is when one of them pulled his hood back, revealing a bearded man of dark-hair and eyes of blue like the ocean. He made eye contact with me from his place in the courtyard. A hint of a smile crossed his face then I stepped away from the window when he turned to his companions. His looks matched the description of Lord Barnes, but it was unusual for the head of a great house to personally attend the negotiations for a marriage. Until I was summoned for dinner, I wouldn't find out who he actually was.
My aunt, a strong and confident woman in her own right, sought entry to my chambers shortly after the arrival of the three men. She entered with a complement of maidservants, intent on preparing and dressing me in a way that emphasized my best features. With my tall build and red hair, that I was born with, the colour of which had only deepened over the years of my existence, there wasn't much else to be done to make me more visible. I had drawn attention from many sources my whole life. Even my name, Arden, was different as it meant "little and fiery." Although I was no longer little, I was often referred to as the Flame of the Forest, for I usually took my daily ride there with my hair unencumbered by coverings.
After much fussing over the various dresses, they chose a blue one, trimmed with lace and a brocade border. Its full sleeves ended at a wide brocade cuff. My hair, left long, was brushed until it gleamed, then a portion was twisted and fastened at the back of my head. My colouring was usually high, so no additional applications of powder, charcoal or berries were needed to accentuate my features. By all the accounts of my uncle's inquiries, Lord Barnes was known to prefer a natural appearance. Regardless, as my aunt regarded my appearance she smiled in approval.
"If they don't acknowledge your physical appearance, they are blind," she said, with authority. "You are a vision, Arden."
"Did you see their arrival?" I asked. "There were three and one fit Lord Barnes' description."
"Yes, but I was not presented to them when they entered so I cannot confirm that gentleman was him," she answered. "I will be presented to them in the great hall then you will be sent for."
"May I wait in the library?"
It was my favourite place in the castle. When my uncle first discovered me in there after taking me into his care, he could have sent me away but apparently, I offered him a book and asked that he read it to me. Seeing the title, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, my uncle took it as a sign of my innate intelligence and determined then that I would be educated in the same manner as any young man of high standing. In that sanctuary, I spent many hours reading of far-off lands, great heroes, and tragic loves.
With my aunt's approval, I relocated to the library and pulled out the copy of The Canterbury Tales, one of less than a hundred in existence according to the Bishop, as they were hand lettered and illuminated by monks who spent weeks or even months creating them. The time and effort it took to create a book meant the possession of more than a handful was a sign of great wealth. Our library had hundreds. This book was a favourite of mine and I sat down at a table in the late afternoon sun. I had only been there a brief time when I heard the door open. Assuming it was my aunt, I closed the book and stood up to return it to its proper place. Instead, it was the dark-haired man who entered, dressed in richly brocaded clothing. At his discovery of my presence, he bowed his head briefly.
"I beg your pardon, my Lady." He spoke in a voice that was deep and rich. "Ser Anthony did not say anyone would be in here."
I curtsied to acknowledge him. "He was unaware of my presence here," I answered. "I sought some comfort from Chaucer."
He approached and extended his hand to receive the book, looking fondly at the title.
"Which one is your favourite?" he asked.
"The Wife of Bath's Tale, of course," I smiled then spoke freely. "I have been raised to believe that I am equal to any man but not all men believe the same. It is my hope to be blessed with a husband who freely gives me my sovereignty."
He smiled warmly. "It is one that I enjoy reading as well, although I am not meek, or submissive. I take it that you are the Lady Arden. I am James Barnes, Lord of the Citadel. I am at your service, my Lady. It was you in the window overlooking the courtyard, was it not?"
"It was, sir," I replied. "I was curious about you accompanying your courtiers for the negotiations. That is why you are here, is it not?"
He seemed amused. "You are correct that my travelling companions will undertake the negotiations on my behalf. I accompanied them to meet the Flame of the Forest herself. Word of your beauty has travelled far and contrary to the rumours which swirl around us both, I am pleased to find that the positive reports are quite true." He opened the book and glanced inside. "Your education appears to be superior to other women of your status if you find comfort in a library. Your skills on a horse and with a sword are also based on truth, according to my sources."
I could have been elevated by his declarations, but I wasn't, not completely. Even though it was proof of my uncle's contention that I would be of interest to this handsome and powerful man, there was still a part of me that remained wary. At that moment, the door opened, and a servant announced to Lord Barnes that Ser Anthony wished to present his wife and niece. He then announced that I was to present myself in the Great Hall. Looking at the shelf, Barnes immediately spotted the place where the book belonged and returned it to its spot. Then he bowed graciously to me and left. With a breath to calm myself I exited the space and stood at the top of the stairs for a moment before descending.
Lord Barnes was already at the bottom of the large staircase, with his travelling companions, a man with dark blond hair and a darker beard, and a man of Moorish descent, both dressed as he was, in fine clothing as befit their stations. Although I didn't know who the blond man was, the other was well known as one befriended by Barnes on his journeys in the Spanish peninsula. Taking the Christian name of Samuel Wilson, he had become famous throughout our kingdom for his chivalry. All three men watched me closely as I descended alone down the great stone staircase, no doubt to assess the grace of my movements. As the wife of a powerful lord, I would constantly be looked upon as a symbol of his house. My comportment would be seen as either a benefit to his stature or a hindrance to it. When I reached the bottom, my uncle smiled and extended his hand to me.
"May I present my niece, Lady Arden Worth," he said simply. "Lady Arden, may I introduce you to Lord James Barnes, of the Citadel, his Highness, Steven Rogers, the Duke of Long Isle, and their trusted friend, Ser Samuel Wilson."
The blond man was Steven Rogers, the Duke, grandson of the king and third in line for the throne. No wonder Barnes seemed amused when I described him as a courtier. That alone required a deeper curtsy than what I gave Lord Barnes in the library.
"My Lady," said Barnes, taking my hand to raise me from my lowered position. "The Duke is here as my closest friend and has agreed to act as a negotiator for the marriage arrangement. May I escort you to the dining hall?"
To refuse would have been considered rude so I placed my hand on his forearm and allowed him to lead me to the dining hall. The Duke escorted my aunt, which was puzzling, since he should have led us all, considering he was of the higher echelon of nobility. My uncle and Ser Samuel brought up the rear of the party. Footmen pulled our chairs out, then assisted in pushing them closer to the table as we settled. I noticed the arrangement of cutlery in our places, a knife and fork, specifically. Although I had been exposed to using them it was still surprising as most of the nobility thought that forks were an affectation of the Italians; a sign of hubris that they were too proud to dirty their fingers as they ate. In our nation most of the nobility dispensed with any utensils, other than using a knife to spear a portion of fowl, or roast, then bite into it with their teeth and allow the juices to run over their faces and onto their clothing. It was obvious by how our guests used their utensils to cut the meat into smaller bites, that they were well used to eating in the new fashion.
"You were successful in finding my library, Lord Barnes?" asked my uncle.
"I was Ser Anthony," he replied. "A fine library at that. You must spend many pleasant hours there."
"When I have the time. Lady Arden is there often. She has likely read everything in there at least once, even the texts in French or Latin."
"Is that true?" he asked me in French. "You are fluent in those two languages?"
I answered him in French. "Yes, in Spanish and Italian, also. My uncle invested a lot of money in language tutors."
He said nothing about our meeting in the library, but he looked at my uncle with a degree of surprise and approval. Apparently, four additional languages were more than he was expecting. The look exchanged between Lord Barnes, the Duke, and Ser Samuel was subtle but telling. I had the feeling that even with the reports they had commissioned about my attributes I was still something of a mystery.
After dinner, my uncle disappeared into the library with the Duke and Ser Samuel with the intent of beginning the negotiations. My aunt went up to help settle my cousins for bed. That left me and Lord Barnes alone.
"Is there a garden where we can walk before it gets dark?"
"There is."
I led him out to the formal gardens, walking along the gravelled path between the displays of hydrangeas and mums which were still blooming. The trees, which were casting off their green colour, were displaying some yellow, red, and orange hues. As the sun approached the horizon, the golden light it projected lent a soft glow to everything. We stopped at a pond briefly, then the wind came up and I shivered. Although it had warmed slightly since Lord Barnes arrival, I wore only a shawl over my dress, not enough to stay warm as it darkened.
"We should return to the castle," he said. "I wouldn't want you to catch a chill on my account."
"As you wish, my Lord," I answered, mindful of his superior status. "There is a small conservatory in the castle, with a fireplace where we can keep warm and still enjoy the plants around us."
He agreed to go there and by the time we arrived a fire had been lit, and a tray with a decanter of wine and two metal goblets were on a table. As I sat, he poured out some for each of us, then joined me on a padded bench built into the wall near the fireplace.
"To your good health," he said, before sipping his drink
"And to yours," I replied, sipping my own. "You know this is unusual. Allowing us to be alone."
"I requested it. Too many of my peers have arranged their marriages through intermediaries without meeting until the wedding day. Both parties experienced disappointment more often than not. I vowed never to make that mistake." He gazed steadily at me. "If there is anything you wish to ask me, I am open to your inquiries."
"Where have you travelled?" It was something I was genuinely interested in, having never left the country myself.
"I have been as far east as Greece, to the northern shore of Africa, Italy, Spain, France and Brittania. There have been journeys north of our kingdom, but it is still mostly wilderness and those who have lived there for eons are not the friendliest, with reason considering how our ancestors first treated them. The Northmen still have settlements there and have a truce with the original inhabitants. We do have trading relationships with the Northmen, as you know. Most of my travels was accompanying the Duke as his Majesty desired to know those who have the closest relationships with our country. We met Ser Samuel in the portion of Spain that had recently thrown off Moorish control. He agreed to stay with us as we found each other's company engaging. Since his Arabic name of Saqr Sama Allayl or Falcon of the Night Sky, was often mispronounced by those who were unfamiliar saying it, he asked for a Christian name to go by while he travelled our lands. The name Samuel in Arabic means prophet and seer. Wilson was suggested as a common last name. It has made his travels here easier. When he returns ... if he returns, he will revert to his given name."
There was a lot of information in his answer, but he obviously found value in knowing about the people in other realms. Placing his goblet down, he picked up the poker and adjusted the wood in the fireplace, as if he were used to taking care of such things himself. He sat next to me again.
"Have you travelled?"
"Alas, no, although I have read many accounts of different journeys, such as those of Marco Polo, The Travels of John Mandeville, and others. I have great admiration for the women who journeyed with Eleanor of Aquitaine to the Holy Lands. I wish someone had thought to document their journey."
"As my wife I would request that you accompany me on my travels," he mentioned. "It would be your choice but the alternative would be spending a significant amount of time apart, which is not conducive to marital harmony."
"What about children? Travelling with an infant would be an issue, wouldn't it?"
"Depends on the destination."
We were quiet again, with only the crackle of the fire to listen to. When the moon's glow appeared through the window, Lord Barnes stood up and turned to me.
"I believe I will retire now. May I request the honour of riding with you tomorrow?"
I stood up. "Of course. I usually ride in the morning an hour after breakfast. If that is acceptable to you."
"It is."
He bowed to me and left, leaving me puzzled to his sudden and arbitrary departure. My aunt arrived shortly after, and we returned to my chambers where she questioned me on what Lord Barnes and I spoke about.
Lord Barnes
As I walked to my chambers, I reflected on the time spent with Lady Arden. Her beauty was unmatched by any other woman I had ever seen. How Ser Anthony had managed to keep her isolated enough to avoid a kidnapping and forced marriage I will never know but it was imperative that we formalize our marriage as soon as possible. Since I first glimpsed her in the window, then spoke with her in the library, I had been unable to think rationally of anything or anyone else. Steven and Samuel were already in my chambers on my arrival, having ceased the negotiations at moonrise, which prompted my departure from the conservatory. They both turned to me as I entered and bolted the door, then checked the hidden passageway for listening servants. Steven handed me a goblet of wine.
"Well?" I looked at both expectantly. Steven answered.
"She is the only survivor of the House of Forrest. Ser Anthony confirmed it. She was brought to him by the housekeeper of the House Forrest, after they were attacked by the forces of House Pierce. Of course, they were not wearing the insignia, but she recognized several faces as Pierce's men. Lady Forrest pressed her daughter into the care of that woman, and they escaped via a secret passage that let them out a mile away. Even in the passageway she could hear as Pierce's men slaughtered the entire family. You know he would have taken her to keep for one of his sons, or his nephews and cement his acquisition of their lands."
"It was he who said he made a social call the following day and found the family dead of the wasting disease. Then he burned their castle to purify it and took their lands for himself, although he calls it a stewardship until the missing heir is found." I was angry at such villainy. "She doesn't know the truth, does she?"
"No, upon the housekeeper's arrival, Stark swore her to secrecy and claimed the child was his orphaned niece. She believes she is the daughter of his sister, Lady Worth and Ser Louis of House Worth from a sudden bout of the wasting disease. His position as godfather to Lady Arden guided him in her upbringing. It was her father's wish she be given every opportunity to be as educated as well as possible. He is aware of the betrothal document which is why he indicated his preference for your favour. That was late in being made known as he was under the impression for some time that you were aligned with House Pierce."
I looked at Samuel for his opinion. "That is understandable. You feel his vow of fealty to House Barnes is now honestly offered?"
"I do. Ser Anthony is a rare individual. He is a man of truth and honour, and both he and Lady Stark love the young woman as much as one of their own. His dowry request is for her benefit, not his, so that she is independently wealthy in the event of your death. Otherwise, he only requests an alliance with the Citadel. It may be that he fears reprisals if Pierce realizes the true identity of Lady Arden so would require the strength of your garrison to protect him and his family."
"Accept his terms. We'll read the banns as soon as possible, then I will apply for a marriage license so that the normal time period can be waived. As soon as it is approved, I will send for her to come to the Citadel for the marriage ceremony. With luck, we can be married after a fortnight. If there are any objections, then I can produce the original betrothal contract between our parents."
Steven placed a hand on my arm. "It will come to pass, Buck. I have faith."
"I hope you're right," I replied, draining my goblet. "Now that I have seen her, I cannot think of ever marrying another woman. By the way, we're going riding tomorrow, so we'll have to stay another night since you'll be engaged in negotiations during the day."
"Alone?" Steven and Samuel smirked at each other. "Is that wise?"
"We were alone this evening when we walked in the garden and when we sat in the conservatory, drinking wine. I'm a changed man. No more brothels or courtesans for me. A woman of her quality deserves a husband who will remain steadfast and faithful. It is my intention to be that type of husband for her."
"If you say so," remarked Steven, draining his wine. "Come Samuel, let's leave Lord Barnes to have sweet dreams of the Lady Arden."
I gave him a rude gesture then locked the door behind them. As I disrobed, I felt encouraged by their report. When our spy in Pierce's castle brought us proof of his part in the death of Lady Arden's parents, I knew the day was coming for the man's part in many similar incidents. He amassed his wealth and power by undermining the rule of law we were all supposed to live under. Even if it wasn't his men who performed all his suspected crimes, his alliances with the Walker and Rumlow houses meant he had them as his accomplices and co-conspirators. With his end game believed to be an attempt on the throne, we needed to be careful not to tip our hand too soon.
The following morning, we took breakfast with the Stark family, and I met the younger children, three daughters. The oldest was dark, like her father, while the other two resembled their mother with their fairer features. They were very well behaved, and I observed Lady Arden's interaction with them, curious about her suitability as a mother. They seemed fond of each other, and it was obvious that they were also being raised in the same manner as Lady Arden had been, for they spoke extensively of stories they wrote for each other's pleasure. They spoke French and Italian easily, making each other laugh. Their commentary was enjoyable, even bringing grins to Steven and Samuel's faces. The oldest child, Morgan, dared to ask Samuel about his childhood in Spain, then listened with rapt attention as he told her about his first time hunting with a falcon under his control.
When the meal was finished, Ser Anthony and my two friends repaired to the library to continue the marriage negotiations. Lady Arden excused herself to prepare for her daily horseback ride, agreeing to meet me in the courtyard of the keep. With the order given to prepare both of our horses I returned to my chambers to change into something more suitable for riding. I went out to check my horse, and found the care given to Soldier since our arrival the day before was exemplary. His coat gleamed in the warm sunlight. As always, he greeted me with affection, brushing his head against mine, then searching for the apple I usually gave him. The stable master offered me one and I broke it in two, feeding the pieces to him separately.
"He is a fine stallion," said Lady Arden's voice, behind me. "It is rare to find a fully black horse without a white patch somewhere on his body. Have you bred him yet?"
"Aye, he has sired a dozen foals in the past two years," I answered, before turning to look at her. For a moment, no words came out of my mouth as I took in what she was wearing. "This is your usual riding attire?"
She grinned and looked down at the short knee length skirt, and knee-high leather boots she wore. On her upper body she wore a tunic under a jacket that was styled in the same manner as a man's. It was scandalous but it also allowed her to have greater control over her horse. Her hair was loose and flowing down her back, brilliant in its colour that reminded me of a sunset or a smouldering flame.
"Do you disapprove?" she asked, almost daring me to forbid her from leaving the keep.
"No, it suits you," I answered, truthfully. I gestured to her horse, a beautiful grey mare. "Do you require assistance to get on?"
"A hand up, please," she answered.
Lacing my hands together, I boosted her up after she put her boot into them. She easily mounted the rest of the way, and I realized the many folds of her skirt hid the fact they were cut like trousers. It gave her as much control over her horse as a man would have. I mounted my horse and signalled to her to lead the way. With a nod to the stable master, we left the keep and began with an easy canter towards a wooded area. She slowed up once we were well out of eyesight. Looking back at me, she waited for me to ride beside her.
"You go out on your own?" I asked. "Are you not afraid of being accosted?"
"I can defend myself," she answered, then reached into her boot and pulled out a long knife, flipping it over in her hand before reinserting it. "Minerva is fast and can outrun almost any horse in the area."
I wondered if she would be so unconcerned with her personal safety if she knew who she really was, but it wouldn't be my place to tell her until we were married, so I kept my observation to myself. As we rode, I took time to scan our surroundings. It was evident why she chose this area. There were many trees already covered in the finery of autumn. The reds, golds, and oranges were everywhere. Whenever a breeze came up, we were showered with the leaves pulled from the branches. It was peaceful and, in her company, I found myself relaxing just enough to forget the affairs of state.
At one point, she glanced at me then nudged her horse into a gallop. I watched with admiration as her hair flew behind her, proving the moniker Flame of the Forest. She was beautiful and magnificent, and if I had my way, she would be my wife in just over a fortnight. Perhaps, just perhaps, she would be safe from those who wanted her for their own purposes.
Note about The Wife of Bath’s Tale. It recounts the story of a knight who is accused of rape. He is given a year to find out what it is women most desire, in order to spare his life. An old crone says she will tell him if he agrees to her request. He agrees and she tells him that women desire sovereignty over their own lives more than anything. When he offers the answer to the courts he is spared and he returns to the old crone to fulfill her request. She demands that he marries her. Since he is a knight and is bound by his oath he agrees. In bed on their wedding night she asks if he would like an old ugly wife who is faithful or a beautiful one who is faithless. He leaves the decision to her, declaring himself bound to it. For his honesty and concession to her she becomes beautiful and faithful, and they live happily as husband and wife.

Tony Stark Bingo August Party - Never have I ever written a Tony rarepair fic
So a bunch of us played Never Have I Ever during the most recent TSB Bingo Party and I'm sharing the links for the works shared here! Hope you enjoy! 😊
For this question, we defined "rarepair" as less than 1,000 fics on Ao3. Many of these have less than 100! 😮
@polizwrites - Going All In. (fanfic) Rating: Explicit. Tony Stark/Brock Rumlow. In the wake of his parents' death, Tony gets his aggressively flirty bluff called by a junior SHIELD agent who is apparently not as straight as anyone (including himself) thinks.
@psychiccatpanda - Because I could not stop for Death - (He kindly stopped for me). (fanfic) Rating: Teen+. Tony Stark/Bucky Barnes/Pepper Potts. Steve tries to organize his thoughts as Tony resumes his typing, wanting to say something, anything that doesn't sound completely stupid. "Who… Um. Who are you arranging a threesome with?" "Pepper." Steve's jaw drops again. "You want me to have sex with your ex-girlfriend?" "Nope," Tony says, his eyes leaving the screen just to focus on Steve again. "I want both of us to have sex with my ex-girlfriend. That's what threesome means." Or, Steve lets it slip that he would like to have sex with a woman, and Tony doesn't want Steve to miss out on anything.
@polizwrites - Try, (Tri) Again. (fanfic) Rating: Explicit. Tony Stark/Eddie Brock/Venom. Gentle!Dom Tony's hard limits prevented him from giving sub!Eddie the painplay he craves; Eddie's new acquaintance becomes the key to everyone getting what they need.
@psychiccatpanda - This Is Not Gardening (You Can't Fool Me). (fanfic and moodboard). Rating: General. Tony Stark/Clint Barton/James "Rhodey" Rhodes. Tony and Clint are waiting for Rhodey to come back from his run. Tony's got an event later that day, but some things are more important than galas.
@somesortofitalianroast - Sign on the dotted line. (fanfic). Rating: Teen+. Tony Stark/Scott Lang. Before officially agreeing to be the Avengers Alpha, Scott Lang wants to make sure that a) he and Tony Stark are compatible, and b) Pepper Potts won’t kill him in a jealous Alpha rage were he to need a Heat Share. [a/b/o universe]
@psychiccatpanda & @polizwrites - The Devil Is in the Details (Sign on the Dotted Line). (fanfic) Rating: Teen+. Tony Stark/Bucky Barnes/Clint Barton.
Things go from bad to worse when Tony Stark accidentally summons a demon while trying to cook his mother's osso bucco for Ty to woo him back. Bucky and Clint are just demons working for the weekend. Only they're in Hell and there aren't any weekends. But, if they collect enough souls and fulfill enough contracts, they'll be able to pass the business on to two pairs of lost souls to do their work for them. (Yes, the soul collection business is a multi-level marketing scheme. Remember, this is Hell.) What happens when these two worlds collide?
Hope you enjoy these!! 😊

Part 1/?
“Sit over there and don’t you dare to run or even move,” the tall blonde kidnapping you barks. He rolls his shoulders while eying you warily. All you can do is to scramble away and cower in the corner of the room, awaiting your end or worse. “Can’t believe a girl like you would willingly let Rumlow mate you.”
“Rumlow?” mumbling the name of your soon-to-be mate, the man your uncle wants you to marry, you frown. “What does he have to do with you and your attack on me? I thought you wanted to steal my car.”
“Your car?” the man sneers, stepping closer to look down at you. His intimidating size and strong scent scare you, so you curl into a ball, whimpering in distress. “Do I look like someone who steals cars?”
“No?” you wonder.
“You’ll stay here, and I’ll make sure your fine alpha knows Steve Rogers got his sweet little omega in his clutches,” the tall alpha crouches down next to you to fist your hair. He forces you to look at him, smirking when your lips tremble and fresh tears roll down your cheeks. “Did you listen?”
“Y-yes,” you sniffle silently. “Please don’t hurt me. I won’t cause any trouble to you. I’m a good omega,” Steve nods thoughtfully at your obedient behavior, liking you try to please him. “Please.”
“Be good, sit here and wait for me to come back. Rumlow will never see you again,” he leans closer to nudge your cheek with his nose, inhaling your scent deeply.
“He won’t miss me,” whispering you hope the alpha won’t hurt you. “Please, I don’t know why you took me, but he’ll hurt me. Brock will think it’s my fault you stole me.”
“Stole you, huh?” Steve grins when you look at him with doe eyes. “Why didn’t he claim you? Your mating gland is still untouched, omega.”
“He didn’t want me,” while the alpha noses his way down your neck your body trembles. Scared you push against his chest when Steve grazes your mating gland with his teeth. Brock will not hesitate to kill you if the stranger breaks the mating gland and marks you.
“If I bite you, he’ll go rampant. I bet he’ll try to kill me if I do so,” pushing you off him Steve snarls in your direction. “Don’t think I’ll not kill you only as you are an omega. Rare or not, you will not poison me with your scent.”
“I didn’t do anything,” you cry, shaking in fear at Steve’s demeanor. “It was you kidnapping me. Why did you just take me?”
“Not another word or I’ll gag you,” the alpha threatens, and you slump into yourself. “You are nothing but a piece of shit to me. If you only blink, I’ll kill you. Got it!”
He stares daggers into your skull. Hands balled into fists the alpha waits for your reply. His chest heaves up and down and you know, he’s no one you should mess with.
“I asked you a question and expect you to answer,” he growls, nostrils flaring.
“I got it,” you whimper again. “I’ll not blink or even breathe.”
“Good. Stay there. Do not move. Shut your mouth,” he walks toward the door, growling when you start to cry. “I said shut your mouth.”
“’m sorry. I can’t stop it, alpha. I’m scared,” curling into a ball onto the cold floor your hide your head under your arms.
“Scared,” he almost feels pity for you when your body starts to shake. Silent whimpers catch his ears, and he swallows thickly before he turns away from you. “Even better.”
Steve slams the door shut; makes you flinch at the force.
“Anything from Rumlow yet?” Steve looks at his phone, frowning deeply. “Why doesn’t he reply? We got his omega.”
“I hate to break it for you, darling,” Tony sneers, looking at one of the monitors to watch you cry uncontrollably, “but Rumlow never wanted the girl. I heard rumors about a deal being made between him and her uncle. One condition was that Rumlow takes care of his niece, but that bastard was more into someone else.”
“What the actual fuck!” Bucky rams his metal fist into the wall, growling low in his throat. “I kidnapped the poor girl for nothing? Why didn’t you give us the damn information before I went out there to grab the girl?”
“I didn’t know you would go after her,” Tony huffs when Steve checks on his phone. “Anything yet from our favorite bastard?”
“He sent me a message,” growling low in his throat Steve slams the phone onto the table. “Rumlow says I can keep her. Or do him a favor and kill her. That sick bastard thinks it’s funny to toy with the girl’s life.”
“I told you he’s not going to give in anytime soon. Not for an omega,” Stark rolls his eyes when Steve gives him a dirty look. “Don’t look at me like that, boss. Not every alpha would kill or even die for an omega.”
“I would’ve killed and died for Peggy,” for a moment Steve allows himself to be weak and remember his first omega, the one Rumlow killed when he tried to blow Steve’s car. “What now? I can’t let the girl go.”
“Uh—I’d like to have a new omega. Jane and I broke up again. Give the girl to me, boss,” Thor rumbles. “I liked her scent. She’s sweet and obedient. A perfect little thing to claim and fill with pups.”
“You won’t lay a finger on that omega,” Steve is in Thor’s face seconds later. He pants heavily, even growls. “If anyone claims and knots that girl, it’s me. Keep your greedy hands to yourself.”
“Whoa, calm down, punk,” watching his friend poke his index finger into Thor’s chest Bucky smirks. “If you want that sweet omega, just tell us so. Rumlow doesn’t want her back so, have fun.”
“Steve, you shouldn’t have fun with that girl,” Tony warns. “You know, her uncle won’t be amused hearing Rumlow let you kidnap and hurt her. What if someone tells him you saved the girl and keep her safe?”
“I must say,” Steve smirks devilish, already grasping for his phone, “you don’t look like much, but you are smart, Stark. Now call her uncle and tell him his sweet niece is safe in my arms or bed. Whatever he prefers…”
“Stop shaking and blow your nose,” Steve barks when you hide in the corner of the room, praying he’ll not hurt you as Brock did before. “Fuck, come here and sit on the bed.”
“I’m good over here,” you whisper, eyes darting from Steve to the still-open door. “Will you hand me over now?” tears roll down your cheeks when Steve steps closer, holding out his hand for you to take.
“I won’t give you back to that bastard,” the alpha huffs when you jump up to wrap your arms around his waist. You bury your face in his chest, crying uncontrollably. This time the tears are tears of joy. “He’s a bastard, don’t be sad.”
“’m not sad,” you shyly look up at Steve, giving him a cracked smile before holding tight onto the tall alpha for dear life. “Everything is better than being with Brock. He’s a monster.”
“Doll,” the alpha whispers, carefully parting you from his warm body. You whine, wanting to feel his warmth for longer. “What did he do to you? Did he hurt you?”
“He always told me that I’m only alive to keep my uncle happy,” you grasp for Steve again. This time the alpha gives in and lets you hide your face in his chest to inhale his scent. “Why do I feel calm even though you scared me?”
“What did he do to you, omega?” Steve watches you rub your cheek into his chest, moaning when you catch his scent. “Answer me.”
Your head whips upward to meet the alpha’s gaze. “He kept me locked away most of the time. Rumlow always told me he doesn’t want me. Yesterday I sneaked out and tried to escape and that’s when that guy with the metal hand jumped onto my car and ripped the windshield off my car.”
“Did he touch you?” a guttural noise leaves Steve’s throat when you shake your head. “He didn’t knot you? Why?” looking at you cling to his body Steve frowns. “Omega, answer me.”
“Rumlow barely was at home. When he came back to the place he called my new home Brock always was with a woman. I don’t know her name but she’s beautiful,” you mumble. “She had flaming red hair and smelled like an alpha, not an omega.”
“Rumlow likes to fuck alphas huh? Interesting,” Steve carefully grips your shoulders to get a better look at you. Your hair a mess, face, hands, and legs plastered with scratches, and your clothes dirty you look like you got under the bus. “Do you have more information for me?”
“He does business with my uncle, but I guess you already know that,” he runs one hand over your hair, tries to pat your head but you flinch away at his touch. “Please don’t—”
“I won’t hurt you, doll. We gotta get you cleaned up,” Steve furrows his brows, realizing he doesn’t even know your name. “What’s your name, omega?”
“Y/N,” you whisper shyly. “Can I go now? If you don’t want to give me back to Rumlow, can you not let me go?”
“Sorry, but you’re safer with me,” the alpha hides he wants to get into your uncle’s good graces but those are unimportant details you don’t need to know. “I’ll show you the bathroom and you can clean yourself up. Let me get you some clean clothes too. It’s late and you need sleep.”
“I’m not a kid,” you growl, eyes narrowed. “Why does everyone believe they can walk all over me and push me around? I’m an omega and should be treated better. We are rare and precious.”
“Little kitten showed her claws,” Steve cups your chin with his large palm, forces you to hold his intense gaze until you shyly drop your eyes. “How about you have a shower or a bath and I’ll not spank your ass until you can’t sit properly.”
“Rude.”
“Cute,” he muses while swiping his thumb over your lower lip. “I think you need a strong hand to tame you, wild little kitten. I guess you are my omega from now on. Rumlow can’t have you back. Now be good and clean yourself up. You reek.”
“I do not—” you cry. “That maniac dragged me out of my car, forced me to run through town, and pushed me into your arms. If I reek it’s your men’s fault. I stink like alphas and smoke.”
“Go. And. Have. A. Shower,” Steve enounces every word, finger poking your chest. “Be good and you’ll get something to wear. Be bad and you’ll sleep naked next to me.”
“You’re cruel.”
“I can be even crueler if you don’t stop arguing. Where is the scared girl from before?” you shrug, eyes glued to your feet now. “Don’t lie to me!”
“I’m still scared…”
“Good. Now go to the bathroom…”
Steve purrs low in his throat when you step out of the bathroom, wearing one of his shirts. It’s much too big for you but to him, you look adorable in the worn-out fabric.
“You smell much better,” he grins when you give him an angry look. “Come here and sleep a bit. I need to keep an eye on you. I dare you to try anything.”
“I’m not stupid,” you slowly walk toward the bed, looking at the tall alpha. “You’re big, bulky, and strong. How should I ever stand a chance against you? Alphas are aggressive and deadly. I don’t want to die.”
“Bulky?” laughing Steve pats the empty side of the bed. “I would call myself well-built or muscular, not bulky.”
“Well-built,” giggling you sit on the bed. Steve seems to switch moods every five minutes. One moment he’s angry and aggressive and the next, he looks at you with soft eyes. “He tried to—once.”
“Tried what? OH—that bastard,” the alpha balls his hands into fists when you tell him Brock tried to force himself on you. “I should kill him. Maybe I’ll rip him apart limb by limb.”
“Why do you hate him that much? Did he steal your car or something?” you ask, glancing at Steve whose features sadden. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have asked.”
“He killed my mate, my Peggy. We were newly mated and married days ago. Rumlow put a bomb under my car. That day, Peggy’s car didn’t start, and I gave her mine,” Steve’s voice cracks, and you jump at him to wrap him in a hug.
“That’s so sad,” you sniffle. “It must’ve been painful to lose your mate. You must’ve loved her so much.”
“How do you know?” Steve asks when you curl on his lap to hide your face in his chest. “Y/N, you should not get used to me. When this is over, you are free to go.”
“You are still wearing your ring, that’s how I knew you loved her so much,” sliding your fingertips over the golden band you sigh. “No one will ever feel so much love for me. I’m a bit odd.”
“Odd—right,” Steve clears his throat, not wanting you to know he likes to feel you against him. “Let’s sleep and we can talk about bringing Brock down tomorrow. I want you to know that no one is going to hurt you at my place but, I’m in charge. If you only breathe wrong…”
“I’m dead, I got it,” Steve scares the shit out of you but this doesn’t stop you from sniffing at his neck before you move toward your side of the bed. “I won’t mess with you…”

Ria’s Top 10 Shrinkyclinks Fics

I will admit this isn’t my preferred AU -- I won’t immediately jump on a fic just because it’s pre-serum Steve and WS Bucky. I gotta like the plot, or the premise, or be really, really intrigued by the tags, but to be fair, that’s how I am with everything that isn’t Modern Bucky and Cap Steve, so. That being said, I have read some truly fantastic shrinkyclinks stories, and I do very much love Steven “Fight Me” Rogers at his scrappiest. And these fics also tend to feature protective!Bucky which is another personal favorite of mine. Oh, but also: shrinkyclinks generally refers to pre-serum Steve with actual Winter Soldier Bucky, but a lot of people use the tag just to imply body types, and when they say WS Bucky they mean he’s all huge and muscled and sometimes has a metal arm, though that isn’t required. That’s the definition I’m going with as well, so hopefully nothing’s confusing!
1. If Wishing Made It So by leveragehunters. Before I get into anything about the actual fic, let me say this: leveragehunters is probably my favorite stucky writer. Like, hands-down, I read almost everything they write, and they’re big into fantasy stories, which is a great bonus for me personally. So, so, so many good shrinkyclinks fics by them (Even Underneath the Waves, a mermaid AU that features equal amounts of pre- and post-serum Steve, and A-mage-ing Grace with mage Steve are two of my other favorites, and they would’ve been on the list, but I try not to put more than one story per author, ya know? And IWMIS kinda wins out above the others for me, so). This story features jinn!Bucky who finds himself in the baffled hands of Steve Rogers, who is perfectly prickly and stubborn and good. Bucky’s got a terrible past with humans in general (and Hydra in particular, what a shocker) that he and Steve have to overcome as their relationship progresses, but that progression is frankly beautiful to watch unfold. I come back to this story time and time again because of how much I love these versions of Steve and Bucky getting to know one another, learning to trust each other, supporting each other through the worst the world has to throw at them. Plus, there’s a few more stories in this series if you get as hooked as I am, which is always great!!
2. Roots Have Grown by AustinB. I remember reading this and just... completely feeling what Bucky is going through. Not everything -- he’s an agoraphobic veteran, and I can’t relate to either of those, really, but he’s so... awkward about his crush on Steve. And that’s -- that’s relatable to me. But it’s precious, really, how he tries to help Steve even though he’s afraid to actually meet him initially; he becomes Steve’s sort of... anonymous benefactor? Guardian angel with money? Like, it’s definitely a sugar daddy type deal originally but I doubt Bucky would describe it like that. I don’t know, it’s cute, though, and I loved seeing Bucky opening up to Steve as they became closer.
3. Through The Woods by VenusMonstrosa, alby_mangroves. Okay, hear me out: werewolves. I fucking love werewolves in fiction; I mean, not really the romance novels you’ll see in the grocery store, but. Werewolf mythology is one of my favorite things, so seeing it in fanfiction almost always manages to lure me in. And I was so not disappointed with this story! Steve’s living alone in a cabin in the woods, which of course sounds like the opening to a horror movie, but here it leads to love. Werewolf Bucky is both charming and terrifying, to a degree, he’s a wolf, but he and Steve are fantastic together. This is another story that goes in on the trust aspect of their relationship and I for one am a big fan of that. There’s some violence, minor character death and the like, but it’s definitely not undeserved so. If you can handle that (and the sex, because there is sex in this) then I highly recommend this one!
4. The Joy of Little Things by obsessivereader, Sealcat. And so we move from werewolves to dragons. Yup. Dragons. Another of my beloved mythical creatures that I obsessed over when I was kid. Bucky’s capable of shifting into a human in this, but primarily he’s a big ol’ dragon that surprisingly doesn’t want to eat the scrawny sacrifice from the local village. Steve ends up working for Bucky, instead, and from there hilarity ensues. Steve’s obviously wary of Bucky, but Bucky isn’t at all what he’d been expecting, and they grow closer the longer Steve’s staying in Bucky’s caves. There are a couple of stories with Dragon!Bucky, but this is my personal favorite; it’s cute and heart-warming and, well. I just really like it.
5. I Just Want to Love You in My Own Language by agetwellcard, inediblesushi. So this one has Cap!Bucky (Bucky!Cap?) but again, sometimes it’s more about how Bucky looks rather than his role as the Winter Soldier. Anyway, I remember my biggest take away from this story was how adorable Bucky was in his quest to win the affections of sassy Nurse Steve, who patches him up after missions and is probably playing hard to get. Bucky uses terrible pick-up lines, absolutely awful, and he is completely unashamed of that fact. Which is, as I said, adorable. Steve, initially, does not agree with my assessment, but he gets there eventually. After some requisite drama, of course.
6. Tint & Shade by forestofbabel. Oh, god, this one hurt me, I remember that pretty clearly. Bucky is the Winter Soldier in this, and Steve is a 21st century art therapist who just so happens to resemble his late grandfather, Captain Joseph Rogers, who fought in -- you guessed it -- WWII. Like I said in the intro, if I really like the premise of something I’ll usually read it regardless of the configuration of pre-/post-serum Steve and pre-serum/WS Bucky, and this was definitely one of the fics I got into for that reason. Having actual WS Bucky interact with a modern pre-serum Steve is always interesting, given how much they don’t have in common, generally (there isn’t even really the veteran status that modern Bucky sometimes has in fics), and it’s a journey to see how and why they connect. Having Steve resemble his WWII era grandfather caught my attention, and the fic itself made me grateful that I decided to go for it in the first place. This is another one where is trust is key to their relationship, considering the mental/emotional state Bucky is in at the beginning. Very good story overall!
7. Fourth Floor by dirtybinary, mithborien, picoalloe. So dirtybinary has written some amazing stucky fics, which is why I was so excited when I saw this being posted initially (a few years ago, but still). There’s magic! Mystery! Suspense! Some NatSharon! Looking this over, I’m wondering if I should’ve saved it for the Urban Fantasy list I wanna do (and If Wishing Made It So, if I’m being honest) but I do like it for the shrinkyclinks list. The writing is great, the characterization of Steve and Bucky is great, and like, they live in what is essentially a magical apartment complex, so what’s better than that?
8. my heart tells me you are lonely, too by FanGirling. Alright, so I read this one as it was being published, and the slow burn about killed me. You know, in a good way, though. Bucky lives in Steve and his mother’s apartment building, trying to figure out where to go with his life now that he’s broken free of Hydra and gotten his autonomy back. He’s obviously wary, skittish, but he takes a liking to Sarah Rogers when she reaches out to befriend him, surprised anyone wants to be near him let alone take the time to get to know him. Steve... is not so easily sold on Bucky. And I’m not gonna spoil anything here, but the shit these two go through is intense, and I cried a lot during this fic, sometimes out of frustration because they’re both ridiculous about their feelings (of course Bucky’s fears are valid, the man has been through literal hell, but also I was internally screaming a little as Bucky continually talked himself out of getting closer to Steve.) I wanted to wrap the both of them in about thirty blankets for pretty much the entire length of the fic. God. They’re just -- they’re so incredibly sweet in this one, once they work past their issues (Bucky and Steve are both more than a little messed up from their respective circumstances, but they make it work). Mind the tags on this one, also, especially because there is a chapter that deals with attempted sexual assault against Steve (obviously not with Bucky!), but Bucky handles the situation before anything truly nasty happens, that I can promise.
9. Local Raccoon Befriends Angry Chihuahua by charlesdk. This is yet another author I really love; they have a fantastic farmer!Steve/Modern!WS!Bucky story that I love to bits, as well as other great fics. But anyway, this one. The title sold me the second I saw it, honestly, I can’t even pretend that wasn’t the deciding factor in me reading this. I don’t think I can really do any better than the summary in explaining why I recommend it; feisty tiny Steve and lovestruck grumpy Bucky are a winning combination in my book. This one does feature the boys dealing with homophobia and ableism, though I can’t recall how severe it is. So I’d just mind the tags, and if you’re alright with them, thoroughly enjoy this story.
10. The Road to Hell is Paved with Tony’s Good Intentions by pinlilli. Bucky as a mail-order Russian bride. That’s the detail that pretty much demanded I click on this fic, and oh my god, it was even better than I ever could’ve expected. Tony, in a bid to help Steve get over his awful ex-boyfriend (fuck Brock Rumlow in every universe, honestly), literally orders him a husband -- in the form of beefy James Barnes, who is a fucking gem and I will not hear one bad word against him. He does chores, it’s lovely and adorable, and you will definitely fall just as hard as Steve does. There’s some canon-typical violence in this one that relates to James’ past, but nothing super graphic as far as I remember. Again, Rumlow is a dick and should be treated as such, but he’s hardly the most important part of this fic and I urge everyone to take a look at it if they’re as intrigued by Bucky being a mail-order husband as I was.

He knew that at the time he should not get drunk, he had another obligation that needed him, but it was very difficult to continue with that pain.
It hurts so badly, he didn't know how he was going to get over it, he didn't feel able to continue, he was very angry because everything changed, the plans that you had now made no sense.
It supposed you will be old together, you were going to have several children and they would see they grow up, but Werner von Strucker came to ruin all the plans, even though they had captured him, it wasn't enough, he wanted revenge, he needed to make he pays for destroying his family, but his teammates wouldn't let him, they claimed he would pay, however, they didn't understand what you meant to him. , nothing would be enough to make up for what had taken away from him.
I've been searching for a trail to follow again Take me back to the night we met
He could remember in great detail how you knew each other, both had entered as recruits for S.H.I.E.L.D.
You used to be away from the rest of the recruits, almost always alone, you seemed very shy, he used to always be chatting with one of his teammates.
That's precisely what caught Brock's eye on you, he didn't understand why someone as beautiful as you wouldn't want to draw attention.
He felt lucky when he touched them on the same team in the first practice.
“Y/N Y/L/N,” you introduced yourself by extending your hand.
"Brock Rumlow," he replied by holding your hand.
You were a great team, you always gave the best results.
The first time he asked you for a date, he'd never felt so nervous before, for a moment he thought you were going to turn him down, he walked into the office you were working on to invite you in.
"Do you want to go to the fair?” He invited you.
"With you?” You asked distractedly.
“Yes... Well... forget it, never mind,” he retracted.
You blinked a little, you finally understood what Brock had asked you.
"I'd love to, as long as it's just you and me," you answered.
He smiled a little, the nerves were gone.
"Only you and me, Saturday at seven o'clock, I pick you, okay?”
"Perfect.”
And then I can tell myself What the hell I'm supposed to do
He looked up a little more, in a chair, was the first stuffed animal he had given you, the face you had put in made it worthwhile, it had been a successful first date.
"Do you want some of those stuffed animals?" he asked when you walked past one of the stands.
"Do you know how to play it? I'm too bad for those games," you said.
You stopped in front of the post and paid.
"Which stuffed animal do you want?" he questioned.
"That dog," you pointed out.
Never before had he felt so pressured to win a prize, he played and won it, he immediately gave it to you, you looked like a little girl.
"Thank you, you're very skillful," you thanked him.
You kissed him, you barely grazed his lips, but that was enough for him.
And then I can tell myself Not to ride along with you
Your kisses, he was going to miss them, your body, your caresses, everything from you.
He needed to know if you two were in a relationship to know how to behave, if it was just an adventure, would set aside your feelings.
"So what are we?” He asked.
"Aren't we in a relationship? I thought that...”
"We've never talked about it before..."Then I have to assume we're nothing or we can be in a relationship if that's what you want,” you figured.
He kissed you.
I had all and then most of you Some and now none of you Take me back to the night we met
He felt it was all his fault what happened, he must have insisted that you stay at the Compound with Wanda that day, if he could return the time, he would prevent you from going on a mission.
You were lying in bed after making love, you had your face hidden in his chest, while he hugged you with one arm and with the other hand caressed your hair.
"Marry me," he said suddenly.
"Hmm?”
You raised your face, you weren't sure what you heard.
"I know it's not the most romantic way, but I want to spend the rest of my life with you," he continued.
You smiled, you passed a finger over his chest.
"Are you sure? I can be very unbearable," you answered.
“If you could feel what I feel when you walk into the room, everything about ‘us’ would change.”
You bit your lip, you knew he couldn't stand the intrigue.
"I don't think you're very convinced.”
"I am more than ever, do you want to be my wife?" he asked again.
"Yes, but only if you give me my engagement ring," you answered, laughing.
"I'll buy you the one you like the most," he promised.
He kissed you and you made love again.
I don't know what I'm supposed to do Haunted by the ghost of you Oh, take me back to the night we met
He stroked his wedding ring with one finger, what was he gonna do now?
He saw your wedding photo, it was one of the happiest days of his life when he started thinking that he should do things right.
He took the picture, for him, you had been the most beautiful bride in the world in that dress.
Sometimes you used to dance to the song that had been your waltz at your wedding.
You were married for four months when he decided to tell you the truth.
"I have something to confess to you," he said out of nowhere.
You looked at him with doubt, even though you kept muddying the jam on the bread you were having for breakfast.
"Are you cheat on me?" you questioned trying to stay calm.
"What? No! I couldn't do that to you.”
"Ah... then it can't be worse,” you answered calmer.
"I'm HYDRA," he finally said.
You dropped the bread out of your hand.
"What? Oh... Brock...”
What were you supposed to do? You never suspected he was the enemy.
"If you ask me I'm going to confess everything to Fury, I don't want to lose you, first listen to me, there's a good reason for this...
You had heard and supported it, in the end as promised he confessed everything to Fury and even helped dismantle the organization enemies, yet many enemies had been gained.
When the night was full of terrors And your eyes were filled with tears
When you announced that you were pregnant, he immediately prevented her from going on more missions, he didn't plan on taking any chances, finally, he was having the family, he had always wanted.
One night you got up when you heard noises, they came from what would be the baby's room, when you walked in you saw Brock opening boxes with the furniture that would be in the room.
"Brock, isn't it very fast yet, I mean, I'm only three months old," you asked.
He turned to see you, he didn't think he was making so much noise.
"Everything must be ready by the time the baby gets here," he replied.
And when the little girl was born, he didn't care if they saw him crying, it was promised that he would protect his daughter from any danger.
Tears fell again when he remembers when the doctors told him that you were dead.
When you had not touched me yet Oh, take me back to the night we met
“Brock…”
It hurts a lot, he crouched down to check your wounds.
“Y/N... wait... help is on the way," he said.
"I don't think...”
”Shh... everything will be fine, they're on their way," he repeated.
He was trying to stop the blood loss, but you'd already lost too much.
"I love you, tell our daughter that I love her too, please take care of her, take care of her, please, I’m sorry….”
He tried to keep you from talking to keep you from running out of energy.
The wait in the hospital had become eternal, as soon as he saw the doctor immediately rose.
"I'm sorry, they didn't make it," they informed him.
"Did they make it?" he asked.
The information was like a bucket of cold water.
I had all and then most of you Some and now none of you Take me back to the night we met
You were three weeks pregnant, he couldn't help wondering why you hadn't told him yet, what he didn't know was that you were going to tell him the night that you came back from the mission.
He wiped away tears when he heard the door open.
"Daddy?" the little girl came into the room.
"Hey princess," he replied by opening his arms to get him closer.
The girl ran to hug him.
"Sorry, she got away," Wanda apologized coming in.
Brock beckoned her that he was fine.
"Mommy doesn't love me anymore?” The little girl suddenly asked.
"What? Why do you say that?” Brock questioned.
He had asked not to tell him anything that had happened, he wanted to explain it to him himself.
"She didn't come back," she replied.
"Your mommy loves you, do you remember Lucky?”
"Mom's dog? Yes, he liked me to give him my candies.”
"Mom and Lucky are together," Brock explained.
"In heaven?”
"Yes, from there they're going to take care of us," he continued.
"Why didn't she say goodbye? We're not going to the park on Saturday anymore?" the girls asked distraughtly.
Brock sighed, it was harder than he had thought, and he had been promised that all three would go on the weekend.
"In a little while we'll say goodbye to your mommy, don't worry, you and I are going to the park," he told her.
He got up and carried her, it was time to go to your funeral, it was going to be very difficult, he kept feeling that his world was collapsed, he would give everything to go back to the day he met you and avoid making all the mistakes, he would be able to do anything as long as you were alive.
However, he couldn't let himself be beaten, his daughter needed him.
I don't know what I'm supposed to do Haunted by the ghost of you Take me back to the night we met

Summary: Y/N and Steve are True Love embodied then Steve left her.
Warnings: Loss. Angst.

As You Wish Series List
Firefly’s Masterlist
Steve did everything that he could for Y/N; making her morning coffee, being lenient on training and picking up her favourite chocolate. Steve even gave her a nickname, Buttercup.
Y/N was aware of the super soldier’s crush and enjoyed tormenting and teasing him to no end.
Captain, please can you take me and the girls to the mall?
As you wish, Buttercup.
Will you bring me my blanket Rogers?
As you wish.
Can I have the last brownie Cap?
Of course, Buttercup. As you wish.
Y/N had begun to adore the blush that would scatter across Steve’s cheeks and did all she could to see it and fter months of teasing, everything seemed to click into place. Y/N now knew for sure that when Steve was saying ‘as you wish’ he meant ‘I love you.’
And that is what had brought them both to be sitting on the rooftop of a skyscraper, watching the sunset. Y/N had convinced Steve, not that it took much, to get away from the bustling streets of New York.
Y/N took Steve’s hand and, with her stomach fluttering with nerves, she leant towards him. Steve, wide eyed at first, responded and their lips moved softly against each other. Pulling away for air, they saw the sparkles in the other’s eyes before taking in their matching wide smiles.
Their relationship blossomed, and they drifted easily into happiness, peace and love. Y/N was certain that Steve was going to ask her to move in with him on their anniversary, once he returned from his mission.
I’ll be okay Buttercup, and I’ll be home before you can even begin to miss me.
Days turned into weeks, weeks into months…
*
After the disappearance of Captain America, missions continued as usual. Nevertheless, everyone could feel his absence, from the empty seat in the briefing room to the loss of warmth from Steve’s smile. The team tried what they could to deal with their loss.
Tony arranged a family dinner, hoping to bring everyone together. It only deepened the misery the team was already wallowing in.
Sam continued with his jokes and quips, yet, it was not enough to make Y/N’s smile reach her eyes.
Natasha and Bucky took their pain out on the gym equipment and sparred with each other until they were even more broken than before.
Bruce retreated into his work and himself.
Clint returned to Laura and his children.
Y/N, well, she pushed herself to the limit to try and track Steve, wherever he may be.
Finally, after several months, the team could no longer sit back and watch Y/N destroy herself. Nat and Sam noticed that she was hardly eating. Bucky had company at night when neither of them could sleep. Tony watched her vivacity disappear and Bruce could see her health drop before his eyes.
Iron Man brought her in, he had almost considered bringing out VERONICA with the way she was kicking and screaming her way through the compound before reaching the common room where the rest of the team were.
Y/N finally looked at the broken faces sitting and standing around her. It felt like her heart had been torn out, and she knew this was the end.
Steve had left Y/N, and his family, and he would never return.
*
Y/N was reckless on missions and caused herself more injuries in a matter of weeks, than she had since joining the team. After a debrief with Tony and Nicky Fury, Y/N was made an inactive member of the Avengers and leaving was a bittersweet feeling, no reminders of Steve floating around the compound.
Eventually, after months of attempting to move on, Y/N was assigned to the STRIKE team. Working alongside Brock Rumlow was not as bad as she thought and after a few years their relationship changed.
Even though it pained Y/N, she gave in to Brock’s desire to take her on a date. He had never had to fight so hard for a woman before, it intrigued him even more and they eventually announced their relationship.
Y/N did not love Brock, he only lessened the pain in her heart.
