Perforictis royi is the latest in the long and venerable tradition of various synapsid lineages discovering the ecological niche of "big stabby saber-teeth".

A descendant of the modern ratel/honey badger, it stands around 80cm tall at the shoulder (~2'8"), and convergently resembles the feline-like build of some of its more ancient relatives. Inhabiting the tropical forests of the rifted-off island continent of East Africa, it's an ambush predator specializing in tackling larger prey – primarily ungulates and primates, but also occasionally giant rodents and hyraxes.

Usually cooperatively hunting in mated pairs, these mustelids stalk close to their targets before attacking, with one individual focusing on toppling and immobilizing their target while the other positions itself to deliver a swift precision killing bite to the throat with its saber-teeth and powerful neck musculature.

Perforictis scent marks its territory using extremely pungent secretions from its anal pouch rubbed onto vegatation, along with making loud scream-like vocalizations.

Jaguar! My all time favorite primary, always a hit for me. looks wonderful on tundras, and it does such a great job with color distribution, gives them sick eye liner, and is usually pretty fun to draw imo!

Pinstripe! (ahaha sorry dfgsfd) i just love what it does with some colors, it can be so vibrant and unique and honestly i just think it's neat C: i have had to actively stop myself from giving more dragons pinstripe since its kind of a pain to brew fdgsdf

Eye spots! Honestly not sure what it is about the pattern but i just lovely it..vaguely mothy, the circles are neat. pairs well with basically anything! it's similar to jaguar, but less overwhelming as a secondary compared to rosette which i really like. (though i do like rosette too! but just not as much haha)

Seraph! making my dragons into the angels that they are <3 just love the feathery texture, it's always a cute look to me!! and especially for tiny snapper wings haha but it works for everyone c:

Runes! love the little sparkliness and especially love how it colors dragons horns! we need more terts that do that (glimmer and okapi were totally contenders for here too tbh). it always makes for a cute touch on dragons, and is a good magical looking gene since these guys are generally magical beings after all! as much as i love animal-y ones too, if i have to go for a non-animalistic gene this is definitely what i want c:

Peacock!! accent colors my beloved! again, we need more terts that play with accent colors. and also more terts that are more wing-based. peacock is great on both accounts though! i like that it plays into the Fake Eyes thing that some animals have in nature too, but it's also such a vibe c:

Unlikely roommates: this frog (Chiasmocleis royi) lives in a burrow with a tarantula (Pamphobeteus) family in the Peruvian rainforest. They're in a symbiotic relationship – mama tarantula protects the frog from predators and the frog eats ants and small parasites that could harm the spiderlings. It's a small, dotted, amphibian house cat :)
