“Let’s get Kraken!” - a fic I’ve been developing where the Turts & April rent a fishing boat in the Hidden City. What the gang thought was going to be a relaxing day at sea is anything but.

It turns out Leo entered ‘his crew’ into a fishing contest: whoever fills the most buckets by sundown wins! Of course the rest of the Turts & April are peeved at Leo, but Leo reassures them that he has a sure fire way of winning (which is mostly them doing the work while Leo acts like a captain).

They end up fishing in a part of the sea where nobody else is fishing, and for good reason too: it’s where Kraken-Tom lives.

At one point, Donnie gets frustrated at Leo, calling him out that it’s his fault they’re wrapped up in a contest nobody else wanted to take part in. During their argument (where some personal hot takes are made), Mikey gets entangled in some netting and falls overboard. Raph attempts to pull him up with the net-crank, but accidentally breaks it.

Donnie takes off his battle shell and dives in to save Mikey. He struggles with freeing him from the net until Leo shows up to help. They rescue Mikey and April comments on how awesome they were when they worked together.

But the commotion awakens Kraken-Tom. Before Donnie can climb back onto the boat, something wraps around his ankle. Donnie grabs onto Leo, pulling him back into the ocean with him.

Enter Kraken-Tom: one very pissed off sea monster who recognizes Leo from the Battle Nexus. Leo and Donnie manage to free themselves from Kraken-Tom’s grasp and hide out on the nearby cliff side. Donnie can’t help but blame Leo for their predicament: if he never entered them in the fishing contest and took them to fish in Kraken-Tom’s lagoon, then none of this would’ve happened - that Leo has a problem with always having to prove himself being ‘the best’ all the time.

Leo concedes and admits Donnie’s right. Leo tells Donnie that he struggles with just being able to have fun, and that if he isn’t able to prove how great he is all the time, he’d be seen as a loser and nobody would want to hang out with him anymore.

Donnie softens, understanding what it’s like to fear rejection. Leo clears his throat and offers his hand to Donnie, apologizing for this whole fiasco. Donnie takes Leo’s hand, but knocks him out of the way, much to Leo’s surprise. It turns out Kraken-Tom was about to grab Leo, but grabs Donnie instead.

Without his battle shell, Donnie’s at risk of being crushed. Leo scrambles to think of a way to rescue his brother. He realizes he can’t beat Kraken-Tom on his own and works with Raph, Mikey, and April to save Donnie.

(( I won’t mention how this fic ends, but this summary-post is mostly an interest check. There are still details and other little scenes to work. ))
