#Rorouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends

God now I kinda wanna know why you ship Tom Riddle/Lily Evans after reading that post where you mentioned that's the one thing you really ship for Tom

Gosh, I wish I could explain it.

It comes down to two things.

One is me having headcanonned my way into interpreting Tom Riddle and Lily Evans' respective characters being surprisingly perfect for one another, as I see them as having a lot in common. It helps that I see Tom Riddle as an ultimately tragic figure, a complicated person capable of terrible things without being evil at all. As for Lily, her I view as a tragic figure in a different way, in that she never really got the chance to live nor to be her own person.

In essence, it started out as a crackship for me but it became dead serious, I really do somehow ship this. I see them as people who, in a different world where the stars aligned, would have been perfect for each other.

The other thing is that I enjoy the dynamic of ships like this.

I can't put it any better than @thecarnivorousmuffinmeta did in her entry for Tom/Lily ships in our personal trope collection (which followers of this blog might recall me bringing up before. Uh, Muffin and I had a busy 2020), pasted below:

The ship of all ships, clones may dabble in other ships from time to time, but it is Tom/Lily which is their true Mecca. Despite being able to instantly spot it, Tom/Lily is often hard to describe.

One of the characters, often female though not required, is of some saint-like disposition. They possess an otherworldly amount of charisma, are often highly intelligent and introspective, but more than that are some level of good that blows all other beings in their respective universe out of the water. They face constant, harrowing, trials and never lose this nobility. They’re heroes of legend, often in unassuming forms and given unassuming roles, rarely recognized for what they are but they glow all the same. Their partner is a darker figure, one who has taken a harder path out of a lack of faith in the world and mankind or through various circumstances. They may wish to be better, but have no path forward, or have given up on such thoughts. In seeing their partner, while they may not end up with them immediately, they often immediately recognize them for what they are and are usually head over heels within the first 0.5 seconds. This is the person that gives them faith and hope in this world and, if that person should be lost, they themselves may fall into madness. Note, despite having many of the requirements, Utena Tenjou/Anthy Himemiya is not a Tom/Lily ship in part because Utena’s light does not reach Anthy until the very end of the series. This ship would be considered a close cousin.

Often, the Tom/Lily ship is exceedingly rare, taking place between characters that may or may not be relatively secondary to the plot and rarely supported by the fandom writ large (much to the clones’ confusion). This, however, is not a requirement and sometimes the Tom/Lily fic is a canon ship, such as the case with David 8/Elizabeth Shaw or Kaoru/Kenshin.

Derived from Tom Riddle/Lily Evans, a ship clones are missionaries of and desperately try to sell to the internet through fanfiction.

David 8/Dr. Elizabeth Shaw in Prometheus is a Tom/Lily pairing.

Examples:

David 8/Dr. Elizabeth Shaw from “Prometheus”, Aro/Carlisle Cullen from “Twilight”, Kaoru Kamiya/Kenshin Himura from “Rorouni Kenshin”, Yon-Rogg/Carol Danvers from “Captain Marvel”.

I hope this clear things up.

(Yes, I know that what's described above doesn't feature at all in Harry Potter canon, in fact Tom quite famously murders Lily. However, this is what fanfiction and a vivid imagination is for.)
