Read-Alike Friday: Moth by Melody Razak
Moth by Melody Razak
Ma and Bappu are liberal intellectuals teaching at the local university. Their fourteen year-old daughter—precocious, headstrong Alma—is soon to be married. Alma is mostly interested in the wedding shoes and in spinning wild stories for her beloved younger sister Roop, a restless child obsessed with death.
Times are bad for girls in India. The long-awaited independence from British rule is heralding a new era of hope but also of anger and distrust. Political unrest is brewing, threatening to unravel the rich tapestry of Delhi—a city where different cultures, religions and traditions have co-existed for centuries. When Partition happens and the British Raj is fractured overnight, the family is violently torn apart, and its members are forced to find increasingly desperate ways to survive.
Honor by Thrity Umrigar
Indian American journalist Smita has returned to India to cover a story, but reluctantly: long ago she and her family left the country with no intention of ever coming back. As she follows the case of Meena—a Hindu woman attacked by members of her own village and her own family for marrying a Muslim man—Smita comes face to face with a society where tradition carries more weight than one’s own heart, and a story that threatens to unearth the painful secrets of Smita’s own past. While Meena’s fate hangs in the balance, Smita tries in every way she can to right the scales. She also finds herself increasingly drawn to Mohan, an Indian man she meets while on assignment. But the dual love stories of Honor are as different as the cultures of Meena and Smita themselves: Smita realizes she has the freedom to enter into a casual affair, knowing she can decide later how much it means to her.
In this tender and evocative novel about love, hope, familial devotion, betrayal, and sacrifice, Thrity Umrigar shows us two courageous women trying to navigate how to be true to their homelands and themselves at the same time.
The Ministry of Utmost Happiness by Arundhati Roy
The Ministry of Utmost Happiness takes us on a journey of many years – the story spooling outwards from the cramped neighbourhoods of Old Delhi into the burgeoning new metropolis and beyond, to the Valley of Kashmir and the forests of Central India, where war is peace and peace is war, and where, from time to time, ‘normalcy’ is declared.
The tale begins with Anjum—who used to be Aftab—unrolling a threadbare Persian carpet in a city graveyard she calls home. We encounter the odd, unforgettable Tilo and the men who loved her—including Musa, sweetheart and ex-sweetheart, lover and ex-lover; their fates are as entwined as their arms used to be and always will be. We meet Tilo’s landlord, a former suitor, now an intelligence officer posted to Kabul. And then we meet the two Miss Jebeens: the first a child born in Srinagar and buried in its overcrowded Martyrs’ Graveyard; the second found at midnight, abandoned on a concrete sidewalk in the heart of New Delhi.
As this ravishing, deeply humane novel braids these lives together, it reinvents what a novel can do and can be. The Ministry of Utmost Happiness demonstrates on every page the miracle of Arundhati Roy’s storytelling gifts.
The Book of Everlasting Things by Aanchal Malhotra
On a January morning in 1938, Samir Vij first locks eyes with Firdaus Khan through the rows of perfume bottles in his family’s ittar shop in Lahore. Over the years that follow, the perfumer’s apprentice and calligrapher’s apprentice fall in love with their ancient crafts and with each other, dreaming of the life they will one day share. But as the struggle for Indian independence gathers force, their beloved city is ravaged by Partition. Suddenly, they find themselves on opposite sides: Samir, a Hindu, becomes Indian and Firdaus, a Muslim, becomes Pakistani, their love now forbidden. Severed from one another, Samir and Firdaus make a series of fateful decisions that will change the course of their lives forever. As their paths spiral away from each other, they must each decide how much of the past they are willing to let go, and what it will cost them.
Lush, sensuous, and deeply romantic, The Book of Everlasting Things is the story of two lovers and two nations, split apart by forces beyond their control, yet bound by love and memory. Filled with exquisite descriptions of perfume and calligraphy, spanning continents and generations, Aanchal Malhotra’s debut novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.

#Tarkhan (#ਤਰਖਾਣ)
Tarkhan is a north Indian tribe which has been historically present in a Punjab and its nearby areas. Tarkhans are an ethnic minority and most of Tarkhans are followers of Sikhism and small number is a follower of Hinduism. Very small of number of ethnic Tarkhans are found in Pakistan, these Tarkhans are followers of Islam. Tarkhans are subdivided into various clans (ਗੋਤ).
Tarkhan #Occupations:
Tarkhan occupations are carpentry, blacksmithing, masonry and farming. The Lohars (blacksmiths) of Punjab are Tarkhans who work with metals and term Tarkhan-Lohar is also used. This diversity in Tarkhan occupations is very clear from Sikh history, where different Tarkhan-Sikhs had different occupations. For example: Baba Lalo Ghattaura, one of the first Sikhs of Guru Nanak was a carpenter, family of Baba BHAI Roop Chand has always been farmers, Baba Hardas Singh Bhamra made the famous nagni used to kill the drunken elephant, he was also scholar, and close associate of 10th Sikh Guru, and Mistry Des Raj Kalsi of Sur Singh played an important role in re-construction of Akal Takht after it was destroyed by Ahmed Shah Abdali. In modern day Punjab, every house, every building is made by Tarkhans, all machinery such as combines, ploughs and harvesters are made by Tarkhans including manufacturing of tractors, also welding and repairing despite being a small minority. Tarkhans are the only people in Indian sub-continent to be masters of more than occupations.
#Ancient #History of Tarkhans:
Kasgarli Mahmut was 11th century scholar from Kashgar. He explained the word Tarkhan in the following way: "It is a name given before the Islamic religion. It means prince (Bey, Umar) in Arghu language." It is clear the word Tarkhan was not pure Turkish and that it was adopted into Turkish from the old language of Sogdiana. This was proved in the Turkish dictionary Divan u Lugat it-Turk written by Kasgarli Mahmut. Sogd was a name of a nation who settled in Balasagun. These were of the Sogd race. Sogd lay between Bukhara and Samarqand. Sogdia (/ˈsɒɡdiə/) or Sogdiana was an ancient Iranian civilization.
Historian H. Beveridge in his paper titled Tarkhan and Tarquinius points out that antiquity of Tarkhan is evidenced by the fact it's etymology is lost. He also states that Tarkhan was both a personal title and the name of a tribe. Bipin Shah in his paper titled Patali of Alexander, Sack of Nagar Thatta and Arghoon rule of Sindh talks about pre-historic central asian tribe named Tarkhan. Beveridge, Isaac Taylor, C. R. Condor and J. G. R. Farlong in their writings all agree that Tarkhan, Tarkan and Tarquin are same. Lucius Tarquinius Priscus, or Tarquin the Elder, was the legendary fifth king of Rome from 616 to 579 BC. Tarkhan was used among the Hittites (1700BCE- 1200BCE) to refer the tribal Chiefs. Also, the the Kassites (1531BCE-1155 BCE) had god called Tartakhan.
Khodadad Rezakhani of Freie Universität (Berlin) in the paper titled Continuity and Change in Late Antique Irān: An Economic View of the Sasanians writes (year is 560 AD): "These are the famous Nezak Tarkhans who claimed descent from the Alkhon king Khingila (Grenet 2002: 218). We know that these Tarkhans controlled the passes across the Hindukush both to Bamiyan and also to Kabul, via the Panjshir Valley (Baker and Allchin 1991). Based on the pattern of the earlier Hephthalites, they established and controlled formidable castles on both sides of the Surkhab River in southern Tokharistan, controlling the trade and military route from Bactria to Bamiyan (Grenet 2002: 218-20)."
In Eras of Humanity by Genealogy, Brian Starr writes about Kama Tarkhan of Huns. Hiuen Tsang, a Chinese traveller of 7th century AD also mentions various Tarkhans in Indian subcontinent such as Tarkhan of Samarkand, a meeting between king and 200 Tarkhans. Across the Hindukush of the First Millennium a collection of the papers by S. Kuwayama makes the mention of Chebishi Tarkhan who along with Tafu Tegin was sent to court of Tang Dynasty by King of Gandhara in 753 AD. Tarkhan Dynasty ruled over Gilgit in 7th and 8th century and was founded by a prince from Badakhshan. Further, founders of Maglot dynasty of Nagar and Ayash dynasty of Hunza were both Tarkhan princes. Tradition traces the origin of these Tarkhans to an imaginary Kayāni prince of Persia, by name Azur Jamshid, who is said to have fled here after the Arab conquest of Persia.
The town named Tarkhan in Egypt has been a site of various archeological diggings, some which were as old as 4000 BCE and oldest woven piece of cloth called Tarkhan Dress. In the town of Chal Tarkhan (Iran) many artifacts were found belonging to Sassanian Period (224 to 651 AD). Tarkhankut is name of peninsula in Ukraine and there are various places named Tarkhan in Russia. Tarkhans have been present in Indian subcontinent atleast since 6th century AD.
The ancient history of Tarkhans is also evidenced from the origin of various Tarkhan clans, such as Ubbi was a Germanic tribe and Bahra a Arabic tribe. There are places named after various Tarkhan clans in Iran (Panesar E-Takshan, Hunejan etc) and Tarkhan clans such as Siyan and Salh are also found among Kurds. Padam and Rattan being of native Indian origin. Menander 1 a Indo-Greek king was born in place named Kalasi (Alexandria of the Caucasusn) around 165 BCE. More than 90% Tarkhans have Tarkhan exclusive clans, only a very little overlap with others.
Some Tarkhan #Personalities:
• Jugde Dalip Singh Saund: First Asian to become Judge in US and get elected in US Congress. His son Dalip Saund Jr. served in US Army as a Lieutenant during Korean war.
• Satnam Singh Bamrah: First N.B.A player from India.
• Bardish Chaggar: First female Leader of the Government in the House of Commons in the history of Canada.
• Baba Sukha Singh Kalsi: There are 7 episodes dedicated to his bravery in Panth Prakash.
• Sir Mota Singh Matharu, QC: First Asian to become judge in United Kingdom.
• Lt-Colonel Kamal Kalsi (US Army).
𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗵𝗮𝗻 #𝗣𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:
According to 1881 census of British India there were 263,479 Tarkhan Sikhs. In the book The Crucial Decade by S.C. Sharma writes that Tarkhans too are found in all the three religious groups in this province, on 1921 their numerical strength in the (United) Punjab was 684,000. The small population of Tarkhans is also evidenced from the fact most of villages in Punjab used to have only three to four houses of Tarkhan families.

Tarkhan #Traditons
Tarkhans engage in ancestor worship in the form of Jathere (ਜਠੇਰੇ) and Matti (ਮੱਟੀ), different Tarkhan clans have different jathere However, this practice is now dying. Members within a same clan (ਗੋਤ) are related by blood. For marriages, Tarkhan practice class endogamy but clan exogamy i.e. they marry with Tarkhans only, however outside their maternal (ਨਾਨਕੇ) and paternal (ਦਾਦਕੇ) clans.
#Ramgarhia:
Some Tarkhan Sikhs identify with Ramgarhia as Ramgarhia Misl (Ramgarhia Confedration) was the one of most powerful Sikh Misl out of 12 misls. The founder and leader of Ramgarhia Misl was Maharaja Jassa Singh Bhamra, who was a Tarkhan himself and most of soldiers in Misl were from Tarkhan tribe. Strength of Misl is evidenced from fact that Ramgarhia Misl along with other sikh generals won Delhi and it was Jassa Singh Ramgarhia who dragged the Mughal throne from Delhi to Akal Takht, where it lies even today in Ramgarhia Bungas. In the Tawarikh Darbar Sahib by Udham Singh, it is written that Maharaja Jassa Singh of Ramgarhia Misl and his son Sardar Jodh Singh together contributed Rs 5 Lakh for construction of Ramgarhia Bungas.

Shaivism : Core Philosophy and Fundamentals

Kashmir: The Birth place of Shaivism Kashmir, the northernmost geographical region of the Indian subcontinent is the birth place of shaivism. Kashmir was named after the great Hindu rishi Kashyap. The image of Kashmir today is a lot different from what is used to be 100 years ago. Today Kashmir has become a breeding place for radical Islamic ideologies. Kashmir was once, home to a sect of Hindus which directly worshiped the cosmos. 90% of Kashmir was inhabited by these people since 1000’s of years, until they were made to run away from their own land and settle in the other parts of India to save their lives, by radical Islamic ideologies. Today No brahmin Hindus are allowed in Kashmir as they consider Hindus as outsiders.

There are two aspects of Shaivism or Kashmir Shaivism i.e. theory and practice. The cardinal principles and fundamentals of theory are supposed to be experienced practically by means of Sadhana. Shaivism has been recognized as the highest among all the Sadhana paths that lead to self-recognition. In this system, mind is to be withdrawn from objective activities, and directed towards the subject, which is the real self and is to be merged into it. Para-Praveshika by Acharya Khem Raj is a basic work explaining different tattvas mentioned in different Shiva Scriptures and gives us the elementary knowledge of Shaivism as well. Shaivism is about the road which consists of Shiva, shakti, Nara (Jiva) or Para, Para Para and Apara. This concise yet remarkable book is a must read for any aspirant who desires to learn and understand Shaivism. Shiva is the absolute reality. Shakti is the divine power of Shiva, through which he conceals his nature. The manifestation of Shakti to the position of soul and world is Nara (the soul bondage, we can call it Jiva also). Shaivism involves experiencing thirty-six principles or elements. Reality of the universal consciousness is manifested through these experiences. This school of thought believes in self-recognition, action and thought.

For gaining positive practical experiences, the aspirants of this system should have a moral and mental character of high order. Shaivism primarily deals with ultimate reality of the manifestation of the world process, bondage and liberation leading a devotee to realize the supreme nature of the individual soul with the eternal-principal which is nothing but Shiva alone. In other words, it is the transformation of the human consciousness into divine consciousness. Param Shiva or Shiva manifests this universe full of multiplicity and countless forms yet remains the embodiment of consciousness. His essential true nature undergoes no change.

The first movement in consciousness is called Spanda or Unmesha. From this initial throb comes the creation of the cosmos in which Shakti transforms into thirty-six tattvas, the principles or constituents from Shiva to Earth. There is no difference between Shiva and Shakti. Shiva is considered as the first principle and Shakti the second principle. In Shaivism the universe is created, preserved and dissolved by Shiva alone. Anything done by Him cannot be unreal. Maya cannot prevail on Shiva. The Jeeva is divine or Shiva in nature but has forgotten his real nature. The experience by which he is able to recognize his real nature and bring home the truth through spiritual discipline is known as 'Paratibijna' i.e. self-recognition, a distinct school of Shaivism. The main elements of Shaivism are as under:

Acharya Khem Raj has given a rational synthesis of these thirty-six principles (concrete and real mental experiences) in his Parapraveshika and the same is briefly given as under: Shiva: He is the universe in its entirety and beyond it. He is spirit, bliss, will, knowledge and action. Shakti: The first flash comes out to draw out the universe. It is force, energy or the will to act. It is bliss, will, knowledge and action all combined. Sadashiv: At this stage the feeling to emerge out develops into will to act. But more importantly, the subject object is not differentiated. Will dominates over all other shakti's. Ishwar: At this stage the subject actually emerges out into object, 'Ahanta' (subject) the feeling of 'I' predominates over "Identa'- the feeling of 'This'. In other words, Knowledge' dominates over the feeling to emerge out. Shod-vidya: At this stage Ahanta and Identa or T or 'This' aspect of experience is balanced. Power of Action becomes predominant. The Five principles of unlimited subject-object experiences are: Shiva Ishwar Sadashiv Shakti Shud-Vidya Creative Energy or Limited Principle Maya: This divine Shakti is responsible for differentiation. It makes us forget our true nature and binds us down to individuality. It eludes subject from the object through five cloaks or veils. Maya's five Kanchukas- Cloaks of obscuration Kala: It means limited power. Shiva is omnipotent but Maya has shrunk these unlimited-powers into finite form. Vidhya: Shiva is omniscient. But Maya has put a limitation on him. So, it is limited knowledge. Rag: Shiva is full and complete, but again, Maya has put it into bondage. So, there is attachment to sense objects. Kaal: Time limitation. Past, Present and Future. Shiva is eternal. There is no bondage or limitations of time on Him. Niyati: Limitation with regard to space. Shiva is omnipresent or all-pervading but here it has its own limits as Jiva.

Five limited individual experiences Purusha: The concept of individual five cloaks of obscurations conceal the quality of the Purusha from Shiva - (the universal consciousness). Prakriti: It consists of Gunas i.e. qualities of Sattva, Rajas and Tamas. It is different for different Purushas and is responsible for differences in the temperament of different individuals. Buddhi is the intellect, which makes Purusha behave, doubt, reflect, think and consider. Ahamkara is responsible for will, thought-differentiation and acts as storehouse of thoughts and feelings. Mannah is responsible for will, thought-differentiation and storehouse of thoughts and feelings. Buddhi, Ahamkara and Mann are together called as Antahkarana. The Five sense organs (Jnana Indrias) Shruti Jiva Gran Tvakh Chakhshu Five organs of action (Karam Indrias) Vakh (Tongue (Speech)) Pani (Hand) Pad(feet) Payu(Urethra) Upasth(anus) These organs have no functions other than to receive pulsation or vibration of five elements of sense perception. Five objects of perception (Tanmatr) Shabad Sparsh Roop Ras Gandh Gateways through which these are perceived are Skin, Nose, Ears, Eyes, Tongue, Sound Touch, Form, Taste and Smell. These are also called elements of sense perception. Five gross elements (Maha Boot) Akash (Space) Channel for force to act. Vayu (Air) - Gaseous state which sustains life. Agni (Fire) - Thermal motion - heat, light and life. Jal (Liquid) - Forms life. Prithvi (Earth) - Sustains everything.
Shaivism and Shiv Sutra
As per one of the Sutras, "Life is consciousness" (Shiv Sutra 1-1) Consciousness is all pervasive. Shiva is a wave-less ocean of consciousness. Through His play, this universe has become Grahaka - the perceiver and Grahaya - the perceived. The emergence of thirty-six Tattvas - constitutive principles, the consciousness gives rise to the universe and its activities.

For purposes of understanding the practical aspect, the universe has been divided into three categories. These are called as Pramata, Pramana and Prameya. Pramata, is limited individual (Jeeva) who understands the nature and activities of the universe. The universe is Prameya and its correct understanding is Pramiti. Since the universe is not different from Param-Shiva thus there are no means of separating Him from the universe, by which we can know Him. He is both the means and the end. Consciousness reveals its own nature and also gives us the knowledge of the other objects. This is called Param Samvit. Through the independent power of this supreme 'l-consciousness' Param Shiva becomes 36 Tattvas and reveals seven experiences which are : Shiva Chitt: Highest, The Absolute. Mantra Maheshwar: One who has realized Sada- Shiv Tattva. Mantreshwar: One who has realized Ishwer Tattvas. Mantra: One in between Shud-Vidhya Tattva. Vijnan kala: Key-experiment in between Shud-Vidya and Maya-Tattva Pralyakal: Experience of the void. Sakal: Limited experience dominated by Maya Tattva (worldly pleasures). Not knowing his real self. Param Shiva or Shiva exists as the universe in its infinite powers. The powers, Shakti are: Chit Shakti: Shiva is self - luminous and wholly independent. Anand Shakti: Shiva has ability to experience bliss with Himself without any external cause. Ichha Shakti: Shiva can do anything in a miraculous way without opposition and with firm resolution. Kriya Shakti: He can create objects of various forms. Shiva with these powers of Shakti continuously performs five actions: Creation (Shristi) = Creation of the Universe Sustenance (Sthiti) = Maintenance of the Creation. Dissolution (Sanhar) = Absorption of the creation into Himself. Concealment (Pidhan)= State in which creation remains within Him, before being remembered or re-created. Bestowal of grace (Anugrah) = Complete merging of the creation into the Universal Consciousness. Your flashes, like the sun, the moon, fire etc. and even Great Lord is of little consequence when compared to your divine Shakti and bliss. You are the embodiment of the whole universe from Shiva to Prithvi in three aspects (Knower, Knowledge and Known). In-spite of all this greatness you dwell in the hearts of your devotees. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_3I0y4DYwA Read the full article

The Hanuman Chalisa – Translated and Explained
Love is the nirvana of the buddha and the samadhi of the yogi. It is the miraculous power of Hanuman, devotee of the hermit king, Rama.
A poem of love and devotion, dedicated to the mighty hero and monkey-god, Hanuman and to his Guru and God: Rama. The poem is replete with praises for his supernatural prowess, his incredulous strength and intelligence, his childlike charm and cunning, and above all for his love and desire to serve Rama, the hermit king of Ayodhya.
This ancient poem, consists of 43 verses, describing a part of the lives of Sri Rama (the perfect indwelling spirit) and Hanumana (prana or the life force) son of the wind god, his devoted disciple and servant. He serves not out of necessity, but from choice, from love. For prana finds its fulfilment only in the perfection of the indwelling spirit. While we spend our lifetime pursuing illusions upon illusions, intoxicated by our own selves as well as the world around us, our prana grows weaker and weaker. But mighty Hanuman, growing from strength to strength, remains exclusively in service of the perfect Rama.
The poem speaks of three types of beings, their places in the world and their relationships with each other.
The three being: humans, demons and between the two are all the others, called the monkeys. All three types have divine and unlimited potential, with the monkeys having the most difficult access to this potential. Humans are those who follow dharma or righteousness i.e. strive to rise above the instinctive nature and succeed, in howsoever small measures. Demons, those who strive for the same and succeed in greater measure than the humans, which gives them superhuman skills. But the ensuing power intoxicates them and instead of freeing them, buries them deeper in the pursuits of the primal brain.
In between we have the monkeys, also a metaphor for the restless mind. A mind that can never rest on anything, like a monkey jumping from branch to branch. It is far easier to capture their attention and domesticate them than the humans or the demons. This limitation lies not in their bodies, but in their forever distracted minds.
Ancient India has always laid more emphasis on the mind than on the body. From this research and years of dedication were born the paths of yoga and vedanta. Recently the west has started to devote a lot of research to the mind, through neuroscience, psychiatry and psychology among other fields.
Ancient epics, myths, legends, poems and stories, explain the mind and its mysteries in a deep and profound manner. They are often woven into the everyday tapestry of social life, so much so that they have naturally lived in peoples hearts and minds since the past thousands of years and are often considered folklore.
One such text is the Hanuman Chalisa, dedicated to the very popular monkey god, Hanuman.
Being a text of devotion and love, it is often dismissed by the more rational as a story about magical impossible people, creatures and events. But it so much more than that. The poem speaks eloquently about the unconditional love of a disciple for his teacher, of a devotee for his god.
The science of yoga devised four paths towards enlightenment, for the different character traits that humans possess. Devotion which is one of them, is said to be the fastest and safest path. Often we admire someone who we see as perfect. They may possess qualities and virtues we would like to have and that admiration naturally blossoms into love and devotion.
The poem starts with a prayer to the sacred dust that lies at the feet of such an enlightened being: Rama – Hanuman’s god and guru. So pure and virtuous is Rama, that even the dust at his feet, says Hanuman, has the potency to clear the disturbed mind, turning it into a perfect mirror reflecting only the divine.
It is said that the very intelligent and perceptive monkey Hanuman recognises Rama’s divinity the moment he sets eyes on him in the forest. Rama, known as purushottam or the perfect man is the very personification of dharma (righteousness). Hanuman recognising this, surrenders his entire life to his service in that very instant, his heart overflowing with love.
Unmatched in strength, and full of divine attributes himself, Hanuman fights Rama’s battles, leaps across the ocean, carries a mountain of sacred healing herbs from the Himalayas to the south of the country, and above all, locates Rama’s estranged wife Sita, to whom he becomes Rama's messenger. These are just some of his feats. Highly popular in his native country, there are thousands of temples dedicated to him across the length and breadth of the country and far beyond, in Thailand, Indonesia, Burma etc.
In this poem, the path of love or Bhakti Yoga is glorified over all other paths towards enlightenment. All other paths require the perfection of techniques and many hours and years spent in practise. But love requires no such thing. It is sufficient unto itself and comes naturally to every being. True love is unconditional love, expecting nothing in return. So great is the power of Hanuman’s love that it outlives even the avatar’s themselves. While avatars born like Rama and Krishna, must return to their heavenly abodes once their work on earth is done, Hanuman is a chiranjeevi or immortal.
Legend says that he can still be seen attending spiritual gatherings where the name of Rama is sung. A special place is always reserved for him. For nothing outlives love as all else faces decay and must perish. But love being the very nature and source of the cosmos is eternal. It needs no nurturing, nor sustenance, instead it nurtures and sustains, asking for nothing in return.
Being desireless is what gives Hanuman his magical powers and strength. All human action, is geared toward the satisfying of desire, whether done consciously or unconsciously. Desire, a tenacious mistress remains forever dissatisfied, forever demanding, thus consuming life relentlessly.
Yet there is another path few are able to see. That of sublimating desire. Where nothing else but love is desired. It is the mighty hero’s path. Only for him or her who has conquered the senses and gone beyond their intoxication. For love is sufficient unto itself and needs no other sustenance. It is the nirvana of the buddha and the samadhi of the yogi. It is the miraculous power of Hanuman, devotee of the hermit king, Rama.
