SATURDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO: “Early Morning Blues & Greens” (live 2013) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v_Aud76QR8 This song was written by Diane Hildebrand and Jack Keller, who wrote several cuts in the early Monkees album catalogue. Keller was part of the Brill Building/Don Kirshner songwriting stable in league with Howard Greenfield and Neil Sedaka. Hildebrand was more of a free spirit. In 1969 she released her own "underground pop" album with this song as the masthead. She also wrote for other artists and TV shows and released music under the name Joya Diane Skye.
Peter Tork adopted this song, usually associated with Davy Jones as a "deep cut" from The Monkees's HEADQUARTERS album. On this performance, Peter sang lead and played a bluesy guitar at a Monkees Convention in New Jersey 3-2-13. I sang harmonies and played bass in a "Monkees House Band" (i.e. Monkees road band alumni) with (the late) David "Loafy" Alexander, Rich Dart, Aviva Maloney + guitarist Damian Fanelli sitting in. We backed Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork with a night of music. We were celebrating the dearly departed Davy Jones + Micky’s birthday, with guest appearances from David Cassidy, Ron Dante (The Archies), and Deana Martin..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v_Aud76QR8

Relevant to homestuck, meaning: were characters in homestuck, heavily inspired characters and plot points in homestuck, were notably referenced in homestuck, or were somehow connected to homestuck in real life

Here's a chart telling you which Ocs have the same universe.
Extended storylines just mean they have the same lore, but they have never met any of the other characters and never would.
Ed basically knows everyone (except the extended storyline folks & the villains, besides Dante. They only know each other through the work dante does and ed is the one trying to stop him.)
Ed is part of the Umbragate agency.
let me know if you wanna know more about this.

Remembering Roger Corman 1926-2024
This one hurts! One of the giants of indie film Roger Corman has died at 98. While he might have been known for B movies, his influence is immeasurable to all movies (A-Z).
If there was some sort of an It's a Wonderful Life scenario where we could see what life would be like if Corman hadn't been born, the entire history of film would look very different. As a producer / director / writer, he discovered and gave early career breaks to Jack Nicholson, Francis Ford Coppola, Peter Bogdanovich, Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Sylvester Stallone, Joe Dante, Ron Howard, Alan Arkush, John Sayles, James Cameron, Gale Ann Hurd and countless others. In 2010 when Corman received an honorary Academy Award, Quentin Tarantino did the tribute. Afterwards QT posed for a photo with many of Corman's proteges and made reference to feeling like he was an honorary member of the Corman Film School!

Demme directing Corman in Silence of the Lambs. The student became the master!
But most notably for me is that he discovered one of my favorite filmmakers of all time Jonathan Demme. Early Corman-produced films that Demme worked on included Angels Hard as They Come, and The Hot Box. Then the first three features Demme directed were for Corman's New World Pictures: Caged Heat, Crazy Mama, and Fighting Mad. Once he moved on to bigger films, Demme never forgot Corman as he cast him in small roles in Swing Shift, The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia, The Manchurian Candidate, and Rachel Getting Married. One of the things Demme talked about quite often that Corman taught him was that you need to keep the eye engaged in a film, because if the eye gets bored, the brain (and the viewer) will too, and also that the picture will only be as strong as the hero and antagonist. In 2010 when Demme received an award from Coolidge Corner Theatre, Corman was in attendance and spoke as well. My friend Jake Mulligan taught a class about Corman at the Coolidge a few years ago and had a section about Demme and Corman as well.

Bucket of Blood movie poster
In all of this praise about Corman as a producer and the "Corman Film School" of directors he gave early opportunities to, it's easy to overlook his own directing. My favorite of his own films are the underrated A Bucket of Blood (having a lot to say about beatniks and the art world) and The Little Shop of Horrors (featuring Jack Nicholson in an early role as an eager patient).
In my own directing class in college, my professor would often make reference to Corman, not just the themes and ideas in his films but his approach to low-budget filmmaking. If you've ever seen Corman in an interview you can't help but absorb his bits of wisdom.
I'd highly recommend checking out the 2011 documentary Corman's World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel for more about the man himself. I included it in my Best Documentaries of the 2010s list.

🍓🍓 for Nat and 🍓🍓 for Dante!
(and maybe just 🍓 for Relly 🥺👉👈)
🍓 I always picture Nat in a modern setting as this unintentional influencer on a platform like Instagram just because she has a very specific type of life that seems very aesthetic to people, besides she'd often post pictures in like amazing but cheap/second-hand outfits (and people would be obsessed with her black cats).
🍓 Nathrae's body tattoos are homages to the two things she loves most between the underdak and the surface: sussur trees and the moon and/or night sky. The first time she came to the surface as a cult-free woman, she followed a hidden path lost amidst the giant roots of a sussur tree, and walked out to a beautiful, clean night sky on the surface with a crescent moon.
🍓 Because Dante's sense of smell is way better than a regular human, the first time he told Panam he "could smell when she got at the camp" was... awkward. And almost taken poorly.
🍓 After getting a replacement post-Mikoshi around 2078~2079, Dante never swaps his blade cyberware again as no model in the NUSA would best his custom made one from home. Once repairing and up-keeping it becomes impossible, many decades later, Dante simply leaves it there and it turns simply into a basic prosthetic (he deploys the mechanism manually sometimes to clean all the sand and gunk in there, but it's useless for combat).
🍓 While everyone has a horse or any type of more place-common mount, Rellihn's old orc-clan gifts them a Rhino. Many of the followers of Iomedae, the Queen in particular, aren't too happy with the fact - but the sight of the Knight Commander riding about in Gorum's favored animal turns way more badass than just a horse.

Tribute to Roger Corman
Roger Corman passed away recently, at 98. He was a powerhouse of cinema. His own movies, of which he directed more than 50, were all cheap B-movies. The films he produced (nearly 400) were much of the same. Yet, he used his position to give new players a chance to get some experience. Martin Scorsese, Jack Nicholson, Peter Bogdanovich, Sylvester Stallone, Robert DeNiro, David Carradine, Peter Fonda, Sandra Bullock, Tommy Lee Jones, Dennis Hopper, Francis Ford Coppola, Ron Howard, Joe Dante, James Cameron and dozens upon dozens of more people got their start with Corman. He also handled distribution for a lot of foreign films that other companies passed on, including work by Kurosawa, Truffeau, Fellini and Ingmar Bergman. It's not a stretch at all to say that the face of cinema would be completely different without him; the last 50 years of movies owes a huge debt to Roger Corman.
If you are going to watch one of his films I'd suggest:
Masque of the Red Death
The Little Shop of Horrors
X: The Man With X-Ray Eyes
A Bucket of Blood
These are all low budget films but they've got fun ideas and are easy to watch. Just a lot of fun.
RIP to a real one.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Tori Amos, Honor Blackman, Ray Bradbury, the Cadillac (1902), my late, great cousin Pamela Carpenter Cole, Paul Colman (Newsboys), James Corden, Teresa Davis (The Emotions), James Debarge, Claude Debussy, Holly Dunn, Donna Godchaux (good to have gigged with you), Dale Hawkins, John Lee Hooker, Paul Laughner (Pere Ubu), Dua Lipa, David Lee Marks, Ian Mitchell (Bay City Rollers), Roland Orzabal, Dorothy Parker, Debbi Peterson, Collin Raye, Vernon Reid, Kurt Reil (Gripweeds, Richard X. Heyman—good to have gigged with you), Diana Sands, Layne Staley, the 1986 film STAND BY ME, Karlheinz Stockhausen, The Supremes 1964 “Where Did Our Love Go?” single, former bike messenger and punk rocker Gordon Taylor, singer-songwriter/recording artist Richard Turgeon, and my friend, producer extraordinaire Ron Dante.
The more you know about Ron’s musical accomplishments the better it gets. Besides being the anchor of The Archies and voice for numerous jingles, other bands (The Cuff-Links), and musical cartoons (such as “Spiderman: From Beyond the Grave”), in his own right he’s a wonderful singer-songwriter and has produced Pat Benatar, Cher, and 9 of Barry Manilow’s hit albums + Ron won 2 Tonys for producing “Ain’t Misbehavin’” and “Children of a Lesser God” on Broadway. That said, Ron is The Wizard of Bubblegum Music—songs that burst out and get people hooked. Over the years I’ve grown to appreciate the crafting that goes into making these “ear candy” recordings.
Davy Jones spoke highly of Ron, and one of Davy’s last singles was “Amore,” a track written by Chris Andrews and produced by Ron (we i.e. Davy Jones Band performed it often). Ron would pop up at our shows, and we were happy to do this (!) song whenever we could:

Mister yellow eyes
Blue lights that make it fucking impossible to look at glass. Great idea.
Note: this is a good quality light (not for this I trust my instincts)
Note to you: who says...you? You're an idiot.
Light so bright you see light instead of glass.

Uncredited Photographer Roger Corman During the Filming of His "The Trip," Starring Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Bruce Dern 1967
Roger Corman, the master behind such kitsch gems as "The Beast with a Million Eyes," "Day the World Ended," "Swamp Women," "Rock All Night," "Teenage Doll," "The Little Shop of Horrors," "House of Usher," "The Wild Angels," "The Trip," "Bloody Mama " and too many other B movies to list, has died. (Oh, and isn't it fun just to say the names of his films?) In addition to the cult goodies he directed, he also served as mentor to many other directors, who got their starts working for him: Francis Ford Coppola, Ron Howard, Martin Scorsese, Jonathan Demme, Peter Bogdanovich, Joe Dante, John Sayles, and James Cameron, among others. On the more serious side, at a time when directors from outside the United States were having difficulty getting their films distributed in this country, Corman arranged their distribution through his company. Among the films he distributed were Ingmar Bergman's "Cries and Whispers;" François Truffaut's "The Story of Adele H" and "Small Change;" Federico Fellini's "Amarcord;" Volker Schlöndorff's "The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum" and "The Tin Drum" and Akira Kurosawa's "Dersu Uzala." Oh, and we can't forget that Corman funded and distributed the absolutely wonderful "Rock 'n' Roll High School." All-in-all, the wonders of Roger Corman's world have enriched all of us, whether in the serious cinema he distributed or the silly, sleazy and fun B masterpieces he created.
"I think Marty sometimes says things just to startle people. But we can certainly agree that 'Wild Angels' had more action than 'Wild Strawberries'." Roger Corman, on Martin Scorsese saying he preferred Corman's "The Wild Angels" to Ingmar Bergman's "Wild Strawberries."
Roger Corman - 1926-2024 - Ave atque Vale
