i wish you guys had the context for any references to blastyoboots aka bladekindeyewear to land. he was this obsessive homestuck theorist of the early 2010s and he had this way of engaging with the text that was like, simultaneously kind of shallow in its mechanicity and yet so elaborate and focused that it imo has an artistic value in itself, essentially distinct from homestuck itself. it was like..idk, hesiod's theogony, to the actual practice of greek religion

Jane’s still in the oven, Gamzee’s still in the fridge, and the moon is about to be blown open. It all has to mean something. I think ending Homestuck was a ruse by Andrew Hussie to provide a smokescreen behind which he can work on the actual ending. He just needed time to build up enough power to match his ambition.

The Gnostics posited an original spiritual unity that came to be split into a plurality.

heir of hope <3 witch of blood

heirs are very literal embodiments of their aspects. your heir of hope is probably a very bright person who doesn’t give up! they initially already have a very good sense of their aspects. your heir is probably very persistent. they’re fun to be around and easy to stay friends with. but usually need a guide to help them progress, which is where your witch of blood could come in as their matesprit.

witches are known for breaking the rules of their aspects. for instance, feferi convinced the horrorterrors to make the dream bubbles, effectively giving life no end. while blood is usually interpreted to mean things that bond you that can’t be broken- relationships, promises, teams. anything that is meant to stay together. your witch will care a lot about things that should be permanent, but also won’t hesitate to break them off if it isn’t worth it. if this relationship is beneficial, they’ll be extremely loyal! if it’s not so functional, they won’t hesitate breaking it off. this second part could be seen as a bad thing, but it may make it much easier to remain friends afterwards, as they’re likely not to hold onto emotional baggage.

now, applying this to a matespritship seems like it would be a rather good idea! the heir is very hopeful and upbeat about the relationship, making it much easier for the relationship to remain requited and for the witch to believe the relationship will remain stable and work out. the witch would strongly encourage the improvement the heir needs, helping them form a very close relationship. the strong loyalty of the witch of blood in this relationship will be forged by the heir of hope’s strong will to keep the relationship fun and held up. and hey, if by some off chance that it doesn’t work out, don’t worry! it won’t be hard for the two of them to stay friends afterwards.

Thinking back on the idea that sprites represent the Platonic “geists” of their associated heroes, when we consider that both Roxy and Calliope contain “Nepeta-ness”, it starts to look a lot like the theory put forth in Plato’s Symposium that humans, having been created with two heads and then split into two, search for a romantic partner who literally completes them; Roxy and Calliope both contain different parts of Nepeta, and they attract each other because these different aspects of Nepeta-ness want to join together into a whole Nepeta.

Which makes complete sense in Homestuck, because that’s exactly what the cherubs are: “two-headed” beings who split in two upon reaching maturity, and spend their lives seeking out a mate who matches their missing half!

Haven't done RAspec in a bit....

From what I've reread, headcanon for romantic/sexual preferences for the main characters and a few crushes, to the best of my abilities:

Captain: Aromantic asexual (super aesthetically attracted to everything, though, possibly a slight romantic thing for Snippy but not enough to really matter?)

Snippy: Heteromantic heterosexual (which is put to the test with Captain because he's super confused on what zee is and doesn't know whether he wants to try hitting on zir or not)

Pilot: Lithromantic/demiromantic pansexual (I had a really difficult time figuring out exactly what I felt with Pilot, and due to his neurodivergence may actually be closer to adfecturomantic/sexual. Strong feelings toward Captain, obviously.)

Engie: Caedromantic, sapiosexual (ANNET incident. No one aside from Annie is remotely smart enough to catch his interest so he's essentially ace)

Well, I've said before that I think my ideal troll name would be "Homestuck" but, as someone who's also a troll fan, that might be kind of awkward. I guess I can give you some "cooler" suggestions?

If you want to stick with Homestuck, I'd suggest something like "Rose Lalonde," if you like that sort of thing, or maybe "Cronus" is sort of a cool trollish name in its own right. (Though of course there are plenty of Homestuck characters named Cronus.)

why is ivory tower a knockoff of internet rationality instead of something else? internet rationality doesn't seem to have anything more to do with homestuck than, say, the "do you even lift" people

It actually comes from me seeing a suspicious amount of similarity between bladekindEyewear and LW’s Yudkowsky - they both write long essays, overuse formatting, always state everything perfectly confidently even if they’re not actually confident (out of some belief that hedging one’s words is wasted space, perhaps?), and are reacted to in oddly similar ways.

I mostly made Ivory Tower knockoff-internet-rationality because that felt like the best equivalent I knew of to “a society of bladekindEyewears”. I didn’t have enough familiarity with the Romspec-thread culture (back when that even existed) to be able to portray it, or I would’ve used that instead.

Of course, now that MSPA Forums are down seemingly permanently, I can no longer learn about what Romspec was like. I know there are things somewhat like it in other fandoms, but I’m not interested enough in the topic to go digging, so I just backfilled with the closest approximation I already knew instead.
