Our similarities- feel different!

Every time I see one image of a person. This time , while hopping and dancing with my similarities on, I happen to discover his favourite in his eyes. So this time, he and his favourite were in my eyes,and they were returning their gazes to themselves!

Shadow Walkers (2013)

Plot: While a teenage house party is in full swing, a freak electrical disturbance sees all the people in attendance duplicated. With both sets freaking out, the two groups fight to be the ones left alive.

Review: It’s a mystery why the title of this was changed for British audiences, as +1 is much more witty and in keeping with the tone of the film. Rather than be the standard American teen house party movie, there is actually an intelligence to this that belies its marketing.

Granted they don’t explain what the phenomenon is, but that may be for the best - too many movies try to stay grounded and explain the science, but just end up sounding dumber for it. +1 never explains, and makes the confusion the driving force of the plot. The second group of teens start off a few minutes behind the first, but with each disturbance they disappear, only to reappear a few moments later; however they have skipped forward in time several minutes. While some are obsessed with the fight for survival, others react differently, including David (Rhys Wakefield), who decides to try an manipulate his girlfriend into staying with him.

There really is an intelligent idea behind the plot, but it simply isn’t well written enough to truly take advantage of it. It doesn’t help either that it has obviously struggled casting wise; just one or two bigger names could have helped it get noticed and given it a boost. The cast try, but simply aren’t good or engaging enough to really sell it. There are some interesting moments too, good ideas such as David’s manipulation (which becomes creepy and menacing), and the classes loner suddenly having someone on her level to talk to - herself. Even if she does take a page out of the Time Travellers Wife.

It’s good that the film doesn’t wrap up with a happy ending either. It wouldn’t have suited to sort every problem out and wrap things up with everybody smiling. It’s a shame that it wasn’t positioned to make the most out of an intriguing idea.

Mini Review:

Well, we decided to actually pay for a movie this weekend instead of just trying to find one on Amazon Prime or one of the other services and I think the money was well spent.

The pick for our Saturday night movie was Plus One (+1) and it was fairly decent. Kind of pointless but decent all the same. An asteroid or something crash lands in a neighborhood and causes some kind of weird time shift. Everytime the power goes out and comes back on it creates another reality so there are always two sets of people but they are off for a certain amount of time. And every time this happens the time between the two groups get closer and closer. What will happen when the two groups meet?

If you haven’t seen this one yet I suggest you do, it’s worth the money to rent it.
