Sidney Dillon. Conglomateur, adviser to Presidents, an old flame of Ina’s. I remember once picking up a copy of what was, after the Bible and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Ina’s favorite book, Isak Dinesen’s Out of Africa; from between the pages fell a Polaroid picture of a swimmer standing at water’s edge, a wiry well-constructed man with a hairy chest and a twinkle-grinning tough-Jew face; his bathing trunks were rolled to his knees, one hand rested sexily on a hip, and with the other he was pumping a dark fat mouth-watering dick. On the reverse side a notation, made in Ina’s boyish script, read: Sidney. Lago di Garda. En route to Venice. June, 1962.
“Dill and I have always told each other everything. He was my lover for two years when I was just out of college and working at Harper’s Bazaar. The only thing he ever specifically asked me never to repeat was this business about the governor’s wife; I’m a bitch to tell it, and maybe I wouldn’t if it wasn’t for all these blissful bubbles risin’ in my noggin—” She lifted her Champagne and peered at me through its sunny effervescence.
“Gentlemen, the question is: why would an educated, dynamic, very rich and well-hung Jew go bonkers for a cretinous Protestant size forty who wears low-heeled shoes and lavender water? Especially when he’s married to Cleo Dillon, to my mind the most beautiful creature alive, always excepting the Garbo of even ten years ago (incidentally, I saw her last night at the Gunthers’, and I must say the whole setup has taken on a very weathered look, dry and drafty, like an abandoned temple, something lost in the jungles at Angkor Wat; but that’s what happens when you spend most of a life loving only yourself, and that not very much). Dill’s in his sixties now; he could still have any woman he wants, yet for years he yearned after yonder porco. I’m sure he never entirely understood this ultra-perversion, the reason for it; or if he did he never would admit it, not even to an analyst—that’s a thought! Dill at an analyst! Men like that can never be analyzed because they don’t consider any other man their equal. But as for the governor’s wife, it was simply that for Dill she was the living incorporation of everything denied him, forbidden to him as a Jew, no matter how beguiling and rich he might be: the Racquet Club, Le Jockey, the Links, White’s—all those places he would never sit down to a table of backgammon, all those golf courses where he would never sink a putt—the Everglades and the Seminole, the Maidstone, and St. Paul’s and St. Mark’s et al., the saintly little New England schools his sons would never attend. Whether he confesses to it or not, that’s why he wanted to fuck the governor’s wife, revenge himself on that smug hog-bottom, make her sweat and squeal and call him daddy.

Flooded Florida struggles with slowly receding rivers nearly a week after Milton's torrential downpours.
Rivers and streams around the Tampa area and north-central Florida, which bore the brunt of Hurricane Milton's deadly path across the state, remain well above flood stage days after its landfall last Wednesday, with several rivers reaching major flood levels.
Hurricane Milton may be long gone, but its effects are still being felt this week as torrential rains, exceeding a foot in many parts of Florida, continue to cause problems.

Rivers and streams around the Tampa area and north-central Florida, which endured the worst of Milton’s destructive path, remain well above flood stage days after the storm made landfall last Wednesday, with several rivers reaching major flood levels.
Some have even broken all-time records, surpassing levels seen during other notorious hurricanes in the region.
The flooding has resulted in over 1,000 water rescues across the region, with more than 700 taking place in Hillsborough County near Tampa, according to the sheriff's office. Rescues included a 91-year-old woman evacuated from a flooded home along the Alafia River and a large-scale effort to save over 500 residents trapped in feet-deep floodwaters at an apartment complex in Clearwater.
Tampa set a record with 11.54 inches of rain, while St. Petersburg recorded an impressive 18.54 inches in just one day. The Hillsborough River crested nearly 2 feet above record levels on Friday at Zephyrhills and has since begun to recede, according to National Weather Service river gauges. However, at Morris Bridge, the river peaked on Saturday morning, exceeding record flood stage by more than 3 feet. It is expected to continue its slow decline through Wednesday.

The Alafia River at Lithia, just outside Tampa, is currently at a minor flood stage and is gradually receding.
In Pasco County, northwest of Tampa, Cypress Creek in the Lutz area rose to 15.08 feet on Sunday, surpassing the previous record by approximately a foot. The river peaked on Monday and remains above major flood stage.
On Sunday, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office advised residents in low-lying areas to evacuate for their safety, based on the NWS forecast for Cypress Creek and the Anclote River.
The Anclote River in Elfers reached a peak of 26.57 feet, falling just short of the record. It remains at a moderate flood stage and is expected to stay in flood stage through the middle of the week.
In Hernando County, sandbags are being provided to residents due to flooding along the Withlacoochee River.
Weather Forecast For 37206 - Nashville TN:
"This water, unlike surge water, will linger for an extended period," said Hernando County Administrator Jeff Rogers. "It could take a week or even two to three weeks for the water to recede sufficiently."
That concern was shared by other officials in Hernando County.
"Many neighborhoods we drove through this afternoon are already experiencing significant water buildup," said Hernando County Director of Public Safety and Fire Chief Paul Hasenmeier. "If you haven’t evacuated yet, do so before your route to higher ground becomes inaccessible. It's crucial to pay attention, have a plan, and leave now before it's too late."
Further east, between Orlando and Daytona Beach, where rainfall amounts ranged from 8 to 15 inches, forecasters and first responders are closely monitoring the St. Johns River. "Extensive, long-lasting river flooding" is expected to continue for several days.
The river is anticipated to reach major flood stage from Astor to Sanford, with the gauge at Astor already recording a new preliminary record, surpassing levels seen after Hurricane Ian. Major flooding is also ongoing along the Little Wekiva River near Altamonte Springs, according to the NWS in Melbourne.

Police in Clermont, Lake County, reported the evacuation of residents from Emerald Lakes Mobile Home Park due to rising floodwaters. They extended gratitude to both first responders and community members who played a crucial role in assisting those impacted by the flooding over the weekend, highlighting the collective effort in managing the crisis.
Due to Florida's flat terrain, river flooding will take a considerable amount of time to recede.
"The St. Johns River is particularly notorious for its slow drainage because it has minimal elevation change from its headwaters to where it flows into the Atlantic," explains FOX Weather Senior Meteorologist Greg Diamond. "Over its 310-mile stretch, it only drops 27 feet, which averages to about 1 inch per mile. Additionally, it's tidal, so the incoming tide reverses the flow of water more than halfway up the river twice a day, further slowing the drainage process."
As a result, forecasters are warning residents to expect prolonged issues.
"Prepare for long-term flood impacts that may persist for several weeks," cautioned meteorologists from NWS Melbourne.

He was quickly diagnosed with leukaemia, and died within two hours. The influential American band formed in 1972 and made just two albums, the 1973 'New York Dolls' and 1974 'Too Much Too Soon'. His estranged wife wanted to honour her late husband's wishes and bury him next to former Dolls stars Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan in Mount St Mary's cemetery in Brooklyn, New York, but officials at the morgue refused to release his body for burial because his remains were so decomposed. (His body had laid in a morgue for over a month).

Gilmour appeared at the show at The O2, London playing lead guitar on "Comfortably Numb" and mandolin on " Outside the Wall", on which they were also joined by Nick Mason on tambourine. Following a charity gig Waters performed with his former Pink Floyd bandmates on 10 July 2010, he confirmed that David Gilmour would guest on " Comfortably Numb" at one show during the tour.
#ROGER WATERS ST PAUL FULL#
On 23 April, the full band line-up was announced on Roger Waters's Facebook page. He was replaced by cousin Pat Lennon, also of Venice. Kipp Lennon, Mark Lennon and Michael Lennon of the band Venice were confirmed for backing vocal duties, but Michael Lennon withdrew from the band due to rehearsal difficulties. Snowy White (who was a session and tour musician with Pink Floyd in the 1970s, and was in the tour band for the original 1980–81 tour for The Wall) and Dave Kilminster were the first musicians confirmed to be in Waters's touring band. Waters, a pacifist, incorporated an increased emphasis on the show's anti-war message, and he requested fans to send him pictures of loved ones who have died as a result of wars. After the 21 September 2013 Paris show he claimed on stage this to be possibly the last The Wall show, confirming rumours that there will be no further tour dates planned for 2014. The tour returned to European stadiums again in summer 2013. This last show in Quebec City was the second largest outdoor production of "The Wall" ever – the largest being the Live in Berlin show in 1990. It was confirmed by Waters during an interview with Jimmy Fallon that he would be returning to North America for yet another leg of The Wall tour, beginning 27 April 2012 in Mexico City and ending 21 July 2012 in Quebec City on the Plains of Abraham, a former battlefield. In 2012, the tour included Australia, New Zealand, and South America, resuming 27 January in Perth, and ending 1 April 2012 in São Paulo. The European tour began 21 March 2011 in Lisbon, Portugal, and ended 12 July 2011 in Athens, Greece. The tour opened on 15 September 2010 in Toronto, and moved through North America before ending the first leg of the tour in Mexico City, 21 December 2010. It is currently the 7th highest-grossing tour of all-time. In 2013, the tour held the record for being the highest-grossing tour for a solo musician, surpassing the previous record holder, Madonna (the record was later eclipsed by Ed Sheeran). It was the second-highest-grossing concert tour in North America in 2010 and the third-highest-grossing concert tour worldwide as of 2013. The first leg of the tour grossed in North America over $89.5 million from 56 concerts. The tour is the first time the Pink Floyd album The Wall has been performed in its entirety by the band or any of its former members since Waters performed the album live in Berlin 21 July 1990. The Wall Live was a worldwide concert tour by Roger Waters, formerly of Pink Floyd.

Full Order of Service (as the one below is missing pages)
from https://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory/order-service-funeral-prince-philip-77134393
LONDON -- This is the Order of Service for the funeral of Prince Philip on Saturday:
ORDER OF SERVICE
All stand. The Coffin is removed from the Land Rover and is carried to the West Steps where it rests at 3pm for the one minute National Silence.
The Coffin is then carried to the Catafalque in the Quire.
Members of the Royal Family who have walked in the Procession are conducted to their places in the Quire.
Meanwhile, the choir sings
THE SENTENCES
I AM the resurrection and the life, saith the Lord: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.
John 11. 25-26
I KNOW that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: and though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another.
Job 19. 25-27
WE brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.
1 Timothy 6. 7, Job 1. 21
William Croft (1678-1727)
All remain standing. The Dean of Windsor shall say
THE BIDDING
WE are here today in St George’s Chapel to commit into the hands of God the soul of his servant Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. With grateful hearts, we remember the many ways in which his long life has been a blessing to us. We have been inspired by his unwavering loyalty to our Queen, by his service to the Nation and the Commonwealth, by his courage, fortitude and faith. Our lives have been enriched through the challenges that he has set us, the encouragement that he has given us, his kindness, humour and humanity. We therefore pray that God will give us grace to follow his example, and that, with our brother Philip, at the last, we shall know the joys of life eternal.
All sit. The choir sings
ETERNAL Father, strong to save,
Whose arm doth bind the restless wave,
Who bidd’st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
O hear us when we cry to thee
For those in peril on the sea.
O Saviour, whose almighty word
The winds and waves submissive heard,
Who walkedst on the foaming deep,
And calm amid its rage didst sleep:
O hear us when we cry to thee
For those in peril on the sea.
O sacred Spirit, who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
Who bad’st its angry tumult cease,
And gavest light and life and peace:
O hear us when we cry to thee
For those in peril on the sea.
O Trinity of love and power,
Our brethren shield in danger’s hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them whereso’er they go:
And ever let there rise to thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.
Melita by J. B. Dykes (1823-76) William Whiting (1825-78)
Arranged by James Vivian (b. 1974)5
All remain seated.
THE FIRST LESSON
Ecclesiasticus 43. 11-26
read by the Dean of Windsor
LOOK at the rainbow and praise its Maker; it shines with a supreme beauty, rounding the sky with its gleaming arc, a bow bent by the hands of the Most High. His command speeds the snow storm and sends the swift lightning to execute his sentence. To that end the storehouses are opened, and the clouds fly out like birds. By his mighty power the clouds are piled up and the hailstones broken small. The crash of his thunder makes the earth writhe, and, when he appears, an earthquake shakes the hills. At his will the south wind blows, the squall from the north and the hurricane. He scatters the snow-flakes like birds alighting; they settle like a swarm of locusts. The eye is dazzled by their beautiful whiteness, and as they fall the mind is entranced. He spreads frost on the earth like salt, and icicles form like pointed stakes. A cold blast from the north, and ice grows hard on the water, settling on every pool, as though the water were putting on a breastplate. He consumes the hills, scorches the wilderness, and withers the grass like fire. Cloudy weather quickly puts all to rights, and dew brings welcome relief after heat. By the power of his thought he tamed the deep and planted it with islands. Those who sail the sea tell stories of its dangers, which astonish all who hear them; in it are strange and wonderful creatures, all kinds of living things and huge sea-monsters. By his own action he achieves his end, and by his word all things are held together.
All remain seated as the choir sings
THE JUBILATE
O BE joyful in the Lord, all ye lands:
serve the Lord with gladness,
and come before his presence with a song.
Be ye sure that the Lord he is God:
it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
O go your way into his gates with thanksgiving,
and into his courts with praise:
be thankful unto him, and speak good of his Name.
For the Lord is gracious, his mercy is everlasting:
and his truth endureth from generation to generation.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son: and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be:
world without end. Amen.
Benjamin Britten (1913-76), in C
Written for St George’s Chapel, Windsor at the request of The Duke of Edinburgh
All remain seated.
THE SECOND LESSON
John 11. 21-27
read by the Archbishop of Canterbury
MARTHA said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. And even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.” Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, he who is coming into the world.”
All remain seated as the choir sings
PSALM 104
The Duke of Edinburgh requested that Psalm 104 should be set to music by William Lovelady.
Originally composed as a cantata in three movements, it was first sung in honour of His Royal Highness’s 75th Birthday.
MY SOUL give praise unto the Lord of heaven,
In majesty and honour clothed;
The earth he made will not be moved,
The seas he made to be its robe. Give praise.
The waters rise above the highest mountain,
And flow down to the vales and leas;
At springs, wild asses quench their thirst,
And birds make nest amid the trees.
The trees the Lord has made are full of vigour,
The fir tree is a home for storks;
Wild goats find refuge in the hills,
From foes the conies shelter in the rocks.
My soul give praise unto the Lord of heaven,
In majesty and honour clothed;
The earth he made will not be moved,
The seas he made to be its robe. Give praise.7
O Lord, how manifold is your creation,
All things in wisdom you provide;
You give your riches to the earth,
And to the sea so great and wide.
You take your creatures breath and life is ended,
Your breath goes forth and life begins;
Your hand renews the face of earth,
Your praise my whole life I will sing.
My soul give praise unto the Lord of heaven,
In majesty and honour clothed;
The earth he made will not be moved,
The seas he made to be its robe. Give praise.
William Lovelady (b. 1945) abridged and arranged for choir and organ by James Vivian (b. 1974) with the composer’s permission
Words from Psalm 104, adapted by Sam Dyer (b. 1945)
The choir sings
THE LESSER LITANY
Let us pray.
All sit or kneel.
LORD, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
OUR Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
But deliver us from evil. Amen.
THE RESPONSES
ENTER not into judgement with thy servant, O Lord.
For in thy sight shall no man living be justified.
Grant unto him eternal rest.
And let light perpetual shine upon him.
We believe verily to see the goodness of the Lord.
In the land of the living.
O Lord, hear our prayer.
And let our cry come unto thee.
William Smith (1603-45), adapted by Roger Judd, MVO (b. 1944)
The Lord’s Prayer, Music by Robert Stone (1516-1613) from John Day’s Certaine Notes 1565
THE COLLECT
The Dean of Windsor shall say
O MERCIFUL God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the resurrection and the life; in whom whosoever believeth shall live, though he die; and whosoever liveth, and believeth in him, shall not die eternally; who also hath taught us by his Holy Apostle Saint Paul, not to be sorry, as men without hope, for them that sleep in him: We meekly beseech thee, O Father that, when we shall depart this life, we may rest in him, as our hope is this our brother doth; and that, at the general resurrection in the last day, we may be found acceptable in thy sight; and receive that blessing, which thy well-beloved Son shall then pronounce to all that love and fear thee, saying, Come ye blessed children of my Father; receive the kingdom prepared for you from the beginning of the world. Grant this we beseech thee, O merciful Father through Jesus Christ, our Mediator and Redeemer. Amen.
THE PRAYERS
The Archbishop of Canterbury shall say
O ETERNAL God, before whose face the generations rise and pass away, thyself unchanged, abiding, we bless thy holy name for all who have completed their earthly course in thy faith and following, and are now at rest; we remember before thee this day Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, rendering thanks unto thee-for his resolute faith and loyalty, for his high sense of duty and integrity, for his life of service to the Nation and Commonwealth, and for the courage and inspiration of his leadership. To him, with all the faithful departed, grant thy peace; Let light perpetual shine upon them; and in thy loving wisdom and almighty power work in them the good purpose of thy perfect will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Dean of Windsor, Register of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, shall say
O LORD, who didst give to thy servant Saint George grace to lay aside the fear of man, and to be faithful even unto death: Grant that we, unmindful of worldly honour, may fight the wrong, uphold thy rule, and serve thee to our lives’ end; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
GOD save our gracious Sovereign and all the Companions, living and departed, of the Most Honourable and Noble Order of The Garter. Amen.
O GOD of the spirits of all flesh, we praise thy holy name for thy servant Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who has left us a fair pattern of valiant and true knighthood; grant unto him the assurance of thine ancient promise that thou wilt ever be with those who go down to the sea in ships and occupy their business in great waters. And we beseech thee that, following his good example and strengthened by his fellowship, we may at the last, together with him, be partakers of thy heavenly kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Archbishop of Canterbury shall say
O LORD God, when thou givest to thy servants to endeavour any great matter, grant us also to know that it is not the beginning, but the continuing of the same unto the end, until it be thoroughly finished, which yieldeth the true glory; through him, who for the finishing of thy work laid down his life, our Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Amen.
ALMIGHTY God, Father of all mercies and giver of all comfort: Deal graciously, we pray thee, with those who mourn; that casting every care on thee they may know the consolation of thy love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.10
All sit as the choir sings
THE ANTHEM
GIVE rest, O Christ, to thy servant with thy Saints:
where sorrow and pain are no more;
neither sighing, but life everlasting.
Thou only art immortal, the Creator and Maker of man:
And we are mortal, formed of the earth, and unto earth shall we return.
For so thou didst ordain, when thou createdest me, saying,
Dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
All we go down to the dust; and, weeping, o’er the grave,

RIBA reveals UK's best buildings for 2021
The Royal Institute of British Architects has announced 54 winners of the 2021 RIBA National Awards for architecture including a floating church, the MK gallery and a mosque in Cambridge.
Awarded annually since 1966, the RIBA National Awards celebrates the best buildings in the UK.
This year's 54 winning projects were chosen from the shortlist for the 2020 RIBA Regional, RIAS, RSUA, and RSAW Awards after last year's awards were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
"Ranging from radical, cutting-edge new designs to clever, creative restorations that breathe new life into historic buildings, these projects illustrate the enduring importance and impact of British architecture," said RIBA president Simon Alford.
The Cambridge Mosque by Marks Barfield Architects was one of the 54 winners. Photo is by Morley von Sternberg
Included on the list are numerous educational projects, including the Centre Building at LSE by Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners and the School of Science and Sport by OMA at Brighton College.
"There are a good number of well-designed school and university buildings that are powerful investments in the future, and I am sure they will inspire young people, their teachers and communities," said Alford.
"I am also thrilled to see many of these make creative use of existing structures. Well-designed education facilities should be the rule rather than the exception – every child deserves an effective learning environment, and these projects provide rich inspiration."
Grimshaw's Bath Schools of Art and Design was one of several educational winners. Photo is by Paul Raftery
Alford also drew attention to the number of projects that adapt and extend existing buildings.
These included the extension to the MK Gallery in Milton Keynes by 6a Architects (pictured top) and Grimshaw's renovation of its former Herman Miller factory into a building for Bath Schools of Art and Design.
"When a new building is essential, we need to make sure it will last and serve the future well – so it needs to be flexible and reusable," he said. "Long life; loose fit; low energy architecture is the present and the future."
"It is therefore very encouraging to see restoration and sensitive adaptation feature so prominently this year; with many buildings acknowledging their history, the needs of the present and the potential of their dynamic future," he added.
Floating church by Denizen Works was also a winner. Photo is by Gilbert McCarragher
The 54 national winners form the longlist for the Stirling Prize – the UK's most prestigious architecture award. The Stirling Prize shortlist will be announced next week with the winner revealed on 14 October.

Gene Eliza Tierney (November 19, 1920 – November 6, 1991) was an American film and stage actress. Acclaimed as a great beauty, she became established as a leading lady. Tierney was best known for her portrayal of the title character in the film Laura (1944), and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as Ellen Berent Harland in Leave Her to Heaven (1945).
Tierney's other roles include Martha Strable Van Cleve in Heaven Can Wait (1943), Isabel Bradley Maturin in The Razor's Edge (1946), Lucy Muir in The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947), Ann Sutton in Whirlpool (1949), Maggie Carleton McNulty in The Mating Season (1951), and Anne Scott in The Left Hand of God (1955).
I Gene Eliza Tierney was born on November 19, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Howard Sherwood Tierney and Belle Lavinia Taylor. She was named after a beloved uncle, who died young.[4][page needed] She had an elder brother, Howard Sherwood "Butch" Tierney Jr., and a younger sister, Patricia "Pat" Tierney. Their father was a successful insurance broker of Irish descent, their mother a former physical education instructor.[4][page needed]
Tierney was raised in Westport, Connecticut. She attended St. Margaret's School in Waterbury, Connecticut, and the Unquowa School in Fairfield. She published her first poem, entitled "Night", in the school magazine and wrote poetry occasionally throughout her life. Tierney played Jo in a student production of Little Women, based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott.
Tierney spent two years in Europe, attending Brillantmont International School in Lausanne, Switzerland, where she learned to speak fluent French. She returned to the US in 1938 and attended Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Connecticut. On a family trip to the West Coast, she visited Warner Bros. studios, where a cousin worked as a producer of historical short films. Director Anatole Litvak, taken by the 17-year-old's beauty, told Tierney that she should become an actress. Warner Bros. wanted to sign her to a contract, but her parents advised against it because of the relatively low salary; they also wanted her to take her position in society.
Tierney's society debut occurred on September 24, 1938, when she was 17 years old. page needed] Soon bored with society life, she decided to pursue an acting career. Her father said, "If Gene is to be an actress, it should be in the legitimate theatre." Tierney studied acting at a small Greenwich Village acting studio in New York with Yiddish and Broadway actor/director Benno Schneider. She became a protégée of Broadway producer-director George Abbott.
In Tierney's first role on Broadway, she carried a bucket of water across the stage in What a Life! (1938). A Variety magazine critic declared, "Miss Tierney is certainly the most beautiful water carrier I've ever seen!" She also worked as an understudy in The Primrose Path (1938).
The following year, she appeared in the role of Molly O'Day in the Broadway production Mrs. O'Brien Entertains (1939). The New York Times critic Brooks Atkinson wrote, "As an Irish maiden fresh from the old country, Gene Tierney in her first stage performance is very pretty and refreshingly modest." That same year, Tierney appeared as Peggy Carr in Ring Two (1939) to favorable reviews. Theater critic Richard Watts Jr. of the New York Herald Tribune wrote, "I see no reason why Miss Tierney should not have an interesting theatrical career – that is, if cinema does not kidnap her away."
Tierney's father set up a corporation, Belle-Tier, to fund and promote her acting career. Columbia Pictures signed her to a six-month contract in 1939. She met Howard Hughes, who tried unsuccessfully to seduce her. From a well-to-do family herself, she was not impressed by his wealth. Hughes eventually became a lifelong friend.
After a cameraman advised Tierney to lose a little weight, she wrote to Harper's Bazaar magazine for a diet, which she followed for the next 25 years. Tierney was initially offered the lead role in National Velvet, but production was delayed. page needed] When Columbia Pictures failed to find Tierney a project, she returned to Broadway and starred as Patricia Stanley to critical and commercial success in The Male Animal (1940). In The New York Times, Brooks Atkinson wrote, "Tierney blazes with animation in the best performance she has yet given". She was the toast of Broadway before her 20th birthday. The Male Animal was a hit, and Tierney was featured in Life magazine. She was also photographed by Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, and Collier's Weekly.
Two weeks after The Male Animal opened, Darryl F. Zanuck, the head of 20th Century Fox, was rumored to have been in the audience. During the performance, he told an assistant to note Tierney's name. Later that night, Zanuck dropped by the Stork Club, where he saw a young lady on the dance floor. He told his assistant, "Forget the girl from the play. See if you can sign that one." It was Tierney. At first, Zanuck did not think she was the actress he had seen. Tierney was quoted (after the fact), saying: "I always had several different 'looks', a quality that proved useful in my career."
Tierney signed with 20th Century-Fox[4][page needed] and her motion picture debut was in a supporting role as Eleanor Stone in Fritz Lang's western The Return of Frank James (1940), opposite Henry Fonda.
A small role as Barbara Hall followed in Hudson's Bay (1941) with Paul Muni and she co-starred as Ellie Mae Lester in John Ford's comedy Tobacco Road (also 1941), and played the title role in Belle Starr alongside co-star Randolph Scott, Zia in Sundown, and Victoria Charteris (Poppy Smith) in The Shanghai Gesture. She played Eve in Son of Fury: The Story of Benjamin Blake (1942), as well as the dual role of Susan Miller (Linda Worthington) in Rouben Mamoulian's screwball comedy Rings on Her Fingers, and roles as Kay Saunders in Thunder Birds, and Miss Young in China Girl (all 1942).
Receiving top billing in Ernst Lubitsch's comedy Heaven Can Wait (1943), as Martha Strable Van Cleve, signaled an upward turn in Tierney's career. Tierney recalled during the production of Heaven Can Wait:
Lubitsch was a tyrant on the set, the most demanding of directors. After one scene, which took from noon until five to get, I was almost in tears from listening to Lubitsch shout at me. The next day I sought him out, looked him in the eye, and said, 'Mr. Lubitsch, I'm willing to do my best but I just can't go on working on this picture if you're going to keep shouting at me.' 'I'm paid to shout at you', he bellowed. 'Yes', I said, 'and I'm paid to take it – but not enough.' After a tense pause, Lubitsch broke out laughing. From then on we got along famously.
Tierney starred in what became her best-remembered role: the title role in Otto Preminger's film noir Laura (1944), opposite Dana Andrews. After playing Tina Tomasino in A Bell for Adano (1945), she played the jealous, narcissistic femme fatale Ellen Berent Harland in Leave Her to Heaven (1945), adapted from a best selling novel by Ben Ames Williams. Appearing with Cornel Wilde, Tierney won an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. This was 20th Century-Fox' most successful film of the 1940s. It was cited by director Martin Scorsese as one of his favorite films of all time, and he assessed Tierney as one of the most underrated actresses of the Golden Era.
Tierney then starred as Miranda Wells in Dragonwyck (1946), along with Walter Huston and Vincent Price. It was Joseph L. Mankiewicz' debut film as a director, In the same period, she starred as Isabel Bradley, opposite Tyrone Power, in The Razor's Edge (also 1946), an adaptation of W. Somerset Maugham's novel of the same name. Her performance was critically praised.
Tierney played Lucy Muir in Mankiewicz's The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947), opposite Rex Harrison. The following year, she co-starred again with Power, this time as Sara Farley in the successful screwball comedy That Wonderful Urge (1948). As the decade came to a close, Tierney reunited with Laura director Preminger to star as Ann Sutton in the classic film noir Whirlpool (1949), co-starring Richard Conte and José Ferrer. She appeared in two other film noirs: Jules Dassin's Night and the City, shot in London, and Otto Preminger's Where the Sidewalk Ends (both 1950), reunited with both Preminger and leading man Dana Andrews, who she appeared with in five movies total.
Tierney was loaned to Paramount Pictures, giving a comic turn as Maggie Carleton in Mitchell Leisen's ensemble farce, The Mating Season (1951), with John Lund, Thelma Ritter, and Miriam Hopkins. She gave a tender performance as Midge Sheridan in the Warner Bros. film, Close to My Heart (1951), with Ray Milland. The film is about a couple trying to adopt a child. Later in her career, she was reunited with Milland in Daughter of the Mind (1969).
After Tierney appeared opposite Rory Calhoun as Teresa in Way of a Gaucho (1952), her contract at 20th Century-Fox expired. That same year, she starred as Dorothy Bradford in Plymouth Adventure, opposite Spencer Tracy at MGM. She and Tracy had a brief affair during this time.[10] Tierney played Marya Lamarkina opposite Clark Gable in Never Let Me Go (1953), filmed in England.
In the course of the 1940s, she reached a pinnacle of fame as a beautiful leading lady, on a par with "fellow sirens Rita Hayworth, Lana Turner and Ava Gardner". She was "called the most beautiful woman in movie history" and many of her movies in the 1940s became classic films.
Tierney remained in Europe to play Kay Barlow in United Artists' Personal Affair (1953). While in Europe, she began a romance with Prince Aly Khan, but their marriage plans met with fierce opposition from his father Aga Khan III. Early in 1953, Tierney returned to the U.S. to co-star in the film noir Black Widow (1954) as Iris Denver, with Ginger Rogers and Van Heflin.
Tierney had reportedly started smoking after a screening of her first movie to lower her voice, because she felt, "I sound like an angry Minnie Mouse." She subsequently became a heavy smoker.
With difficult events in her personal life, Tierney struggled for years with episodes of manic depression. In 1943, she gave birth to a daughter, Daria, who was deaf and mentally disabled, the result of a fan breaking a rubella quarantine and infecting the pregnant Tierney while she volunteered at the Hollywood Canteen. In 1953, she suffered problems with concentration, which affected her film appearances. She dropped out of Mogambo and was replaced by Grace Kelly.[4][page needed] While playing Anne Scott in The Left Hand of God (1955), opposite Humphrey Bogart, Tierney became ill. Bogart's sister Frances (known as Pat) had suffered from mental illness, so he showed Tierney great sympathy, feeding her lines during the production and encouraging her to seek help.
Tierney consulted a psychiatrist and was admitted to Harkness Pavilion in New York. Later, she went to the Institute of Living in Hartford, Connecticut. After some 27 shock treatments, intended to alleviate severe depression, Tierney fled the facility, but was caught and returned. She later became an outspoken opponent of shock treatment therapy, claiming it had destroyed significant portions of her memory.
In late December 1957, Tierney, from her mother's apartment in Manhattan, stepped onto a ledge 14 stories above ground and remained for about 20 minutes in what was considered a suicide attempt. Police were called, and afterwards Tierney's family arranged for her to be admitted to the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kansas. The following year, after treatment for depression, she was discharged. Afterwards, she worked as a sales girl in a local dress shop with hopes of integrating back into society, but she was recognized by a customer, resulting in sensational newspaper headlines.
Later in 1958, 20th Century-Fox offered Tierney a lead role in Holiday for Lovers (1959), but the stress upon her proved too great, so only days into production, she dropped out of the film and returned to Menninger for a time.
Tierney made a screen comeback in Advise and Consent (1962), co-starring with Franchot Tone and reuniting with director Otto Preminger.[4][page needed] Soon afterwards, she played Albertine Prine in Toys in the Attic (1963), based on the play by Lillian Hellman. This was followed by the international production of Las cuatro noches de la luna llena, (Four Nights of the Full Moon - 1963), in which she starred with Dan Dailey. She received critical praise overall for her performances.
Tierney's career as a solid character actress seemed to be back on track as she played Jane Barton in The Pleasure Seekers (1964), but then she suddenly retired. She returned to star in the television movie Daughter of the Mind (1969) with Don Murray and Ray Milland. Her final performance was in the TV miniseries Scruples (1980).
Tierney married two men: the first was Oleg Cassini, a costume and fashion designer, on June 1, 1941, with whom she eloped. She was 20 years old. Her parents opposed the marriage, as he was from a Russian-Italian family and born in France. She had two daughters, Antoinette Daria Cassini (October 15, 1943 – September 11, 2010) and Christina "Tina" Cassini (November 19, 1948 – March 31, 2015).
In June 1943, while pregnant with Daria, Tierney contracted rubella (German measles), likely from a fan ill with the disease. Antoinette Daria Cassini was born prematurely in Washington, DC, weighing three pounds, two ounces (1.42 kg) and requiring a total blood transfusion. The rubella caused congenital damage: Daria was deaf, partially blind with cataracts, and severely mentally disabled. She was institutionalized for much of her life. This entire incident was inspiration for a plot point in the 1962 Agatha Christie novel The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side.
It is claimed that she had an affair with Mohammad Reza Shah of Iran during the late 1940s.
Tierney's friend Howard Hughes paid for Daria's medical expenses, ensuring the girl received the best care. Tierney never forgot his acts of kindness. Daria Cassini died in 2010, at the age of 66.
Tierney and Cassini separated October 20, 1946, and entered into a property settlement agreement on November 10. Periodicals during this period record Tierney with Charles K. Feldman, including articles related to her "twosoming" with Feldman, her "current best beau". The divorce was to be finalized in March 1948, but they reconciled before then.
During their separation, Tierney met John F. Kennedy, a young World War II veteran, who was visiting the set of Dragonwyck in 1946. They began a romance that she ended the following year after Kennedy told her he could never marry her because of his political ambitions. In 1960, Tierney sent Kennedy a note of congratulations on his victory in the presidential election. During this time, newspapers documented Tierney's other romantic relationships, including Kirk Douglas.
While filming for Personal Affair in Europe, she began a romance with Prince Aly Khan. They became engaged in 1952, while Khan was going through a divorce from Rita Hayworth. Their marriage plans, however, met with fierce opposition from his father, Aga Khan III.
Cassini later bequeathed $500,000 in trust to Daria and $1,000,000 to Christina. Cassini and Tierney remained friends until her death in November 1991.
In 1958, Tierney met Texas oil baron W. Howard Lee, who had been married to actress Hedy Lamarr since 1953. Lee and Lamarr divorced in 1960 after a long battle over alimony, then Lee and Tierney married in Aspen, Colorado, on July 11, 1960. They lived quietly in Houston, Texas, and Delray Beach, Florida until his death in 1981.
Despite her self-imposed exile in Texas, Tierney received work offers from Hollywood, prompting her to a comeback. She appeared in a November 1960 broadcast of General Electric Theater, during which time she discovered that she was pregnant. Shortly after, 20th Century Fox announced Tierney would play the lead role in Return to Peyton Place, but she withdrew from the production after suffering a miscarriage.
Tierney's autobiography, Self-Portrait, in which she candidly discusses her life, career, and mental illness, was published in 1979.
Tierney's second husband, W. Howard Lee, died on February 17, 1981 after a long illness.[24]
In 1986, Tierney was honored alongside actor Gregory Peck with the first Donostia Lifetime Achievement Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain.
Tierney has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6125 Hollywood Boulevard.
Tierney died of emphysema on November 6, 1991, in Houston, thirteen days before her 71st birthday. She is interred in Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
Certain documents of Tierney's film-related material, personal papers, letters, etc., are held in the Wesleyan University Cinema Archives, though her papers are closed to the public.

Blue-white-red and grey
Summary: Steve saves you but the case ain’t over and you have to find a way to catch the bad guy while pining for the golden boy...
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Reader, Natasha Romanoff, Tony Stark, OFC’ Scott Porter
Warnings: a hint of angst, awkward situations, bad flirting skills, tension, mutual pining, two idiots in love, comforting, fluff and a hint of making out
He looks like a Greek god as he picks you up to carry you out of the building. Strong muscles, chiseled jaw – the golden boy closer than you ever thought possible.
“I can walk, Captain.” You protest. “My colleagues need help. I appreciate you want to bring me out, but I’m still able to walk. Let me help the civilians.”
Captain America shakes his head. He can see the deep cut at your lower abdomen, you can’t and he can hear your heart is pumping way to fast – not only due to the adrenaline rushing through your veins.
“I need to bring you to the quin-jet. Natasha, Sam and Tony will help your colleagues, Detective.” The tall Avengers rumbles and you lean against his chest. The last thing you see before unconsciousness drags you away is the star on his chest. “You’re going to make it…”
----
“Fuck!” You curse sitting up in a foreign bed. A worried Captain America is looking down at you gasping as you moved too fast.
Now without his helmet, shield, and uniform, he sits next to your bed in normal clothes, like a normal guy. Eying him for a moment you wonder if he always wears dress pants and a dress shirt if he’s not Captain America.
“Is something wrong, Detective?” Steve asks as you look up at him. “No…I just never saw Captain America in civil clothes, sorry. I guess I was staring.” You stammer and he chuckles lightly, as his hand squeezes yours.
“I’m only a normal boy from Brooklyn without my uniform and shield.” Steve rumbles. “How do you feel? Dr. Cho said the wound should heal soon. Something about Starks technology and genetic manipulated…I forgot.” Steve shrugs giving you a shy smile.
“I feel good. Nothing hurts but I guess I got some painkillers. I’m sorry I was stubborn.” Your eyes meet Steve’s blue ones and he gives you a bright smile in return.
“You remind me of myself, Y/N. Sorry…I mean Detective Y/L/N…” Steve seems to be nervous out of the blue.
“Y/N is fine. You saved me after all. I owe you my first name or a steak.” You tease and Steve, he nods. “I’ll take the steak too. I’m old-fashioned and would pay at our first date but you can buy me a steak anytime.” Steve’s face is slightly flushed as he leans closer, clearing his throat.
“Anytime, Captain. I owe you a beer too…” You shrug and he nods eagerly, still this smile on his lips. “How are my colleagues?”
“Tony and the others were able to free all other hostages. Only one got shot. He’s in a coma but Dr. Cho is taking good care of him. Surgery was successful and all.”
“Thank you, Captain.”
“Please, call me Steve. I’m only a normal guy…”
This time it’s your turn to flush red as he leans closer, placing a soft kiss to your hand. “Also, it’s an honor to meet the Detective catching the Brooklyn strangler. I wish I could’ve been a help with the case but I’m better in breaking through a wall…” Steve sighs.
“And saving hurt people, Cap…I mean Steve. Without you and your fellow Avengers, I and my colleagues would be dead. We never assumed one of our colleagues would attack us. It’s a shame, we all trusted him…” Your eyes water remembering the moment your former colleague and friend started to shoot people in your department.
“I’m sorry, Y/N. We are investigating this incident. So far we know he was not on his own. We are sure someone gave him instructions and his family is gone…” Steve explains, and your eyes widen.
“Fuck. Scott…he said that he doesn’t want to do this…” You gasp trying to get out of the bed only for Steve to catch your fall as your legs are too weak right now. “Easy there, young lady. If someone was blackmailing your colleague Tony will find out. Now back into the bed.”
“Uh-huh. I think you should buy me a steak first, Captain.” You tease and Steve looks flustered but there’s a hint of a dirty grin on his lips. “I’ll do it anytime, doll.”
“Sorry. Sometimes I tend to flirt to break the ice. I didn’t want to make you feel uncomfortable, Cap…I mean Steve.” Now you glance at his chest while he holds you in his arms, strong arms. You can’t take your eyes off his neck, wondering how it feels to wrap your arms around him or how his skin would taste…
“UH…Steve? Care to explain why Miss Y/L/N or rather Detective Y/L/N is not in her bed?” Natasha asks glancing at you in Captain America's arms.
“She wanted to storm out of the room, and I had to catch her, Nat,” Steve explains.
“I tend to fall lately, and Captain America was luckily around to catch me once again. I mean the fall from the balcony would’ve killed me for sure…”
“You’re welcome, Detective. Steve is good at saving people and we need your help. Scott Porter, the colleague attacking your department refuses to talk to anyone but you. Can you help us?” Natasha’s eyes meet yours as you nod, looking around the room to find your clothes.
“I got a bag with clothes for you, Detective. It’s in a spare room next to Steve’s. We ask if Dr. Cho agrees you can leave the hospital bed for two hours. Steve can carry you if you prefer his arms instead of a wheelchair.” Natasha teases and Steve glares at her, but a smile is creeping onto his lips.
----
“Scott, I’m here. If you want help - if someone is holding your family hostage tell me now. Only me and you as it used to be.” You say as Scott glances at your wheelchair.
“I’m sorry you almost got killed. This wasn’t my intention. I thought they want me to hack the system, give them needed information and leave the department. Then someone called me, telling me that I have to get the gun out of my trunk and enter the department.” Scott whispers shaking by now.
“What else, Scott?”
“This man, the voice promised if I kill you, Masters and McKenzie I’ll see my family again. That they would let them go. I went in and you know the rest…” Scott’s eyes meet yours and you know he didn’t lie.
“Anything you can tell me about the man? Did anyone else contact you?”
“No. Three days ago, I came home and Theresa along with Paul was gone. I got a call. This voice told me to remain silent and wait for instructions. Then they sent me a picture of my family, tied to a chair, guns aimed at their heads.” Scotts voice cracks. “They are dead…aren’t they?”
“We don’t know so far. Mr. Stark and his team search for your family and the people behind all of this. Did this voice tell you why we shall die?” You ask.
“A case, I guess…dunno. He only told me I must kill these three people. The guns were in my trunk. I entered the department and the voice told me to wait till 2 pm before starting to fire.”
“2 pm exactly? Why?” Pinching the bridge of your nose you look toward the door as Steve steps in. “As Nick Fury, Tony and I would be close by at 2 pm. We had a meeting in the building next to your department, at 2 pm exactly. Only for the person calling us to not show up. This smells like a trap…” Steve mutters pacing around the room.
“I don’t get it. Why telling Scott to kill us knowing you and the others would be there? The guy at the end of the line must’ve known you would stop Scott and save me and the others…”
“Crap. We brought all injured cops to the tower, Y/N.” Steve’s eyes meet yours and you gasp at the realization. “Someone might sneak in, fuck…” Cursing you try to get up as Steve shakes his head, picking you up once again to rush out of the room, yelling for Jarvis to warn every Avenger and to initiate security alert.
“Uh, Cap. I can walk…” You mutter as he runs toward Tony’s office to let him check every person they brought into the medical bay.
----
“Okay. All critic areas are locked. No one got in.” Tony explains. We locked the medical bay too.”
“Maybe we are wrong?” You ask glancing at the monitor. “Or not. Can you show me, everyone, you brought in? If someone sneaked in I can tell you who is not one of my colleagues…”
“Great,” Steve exclaims carefully placing you onto Tony’s chair. “Let’s start then.”
----
“Last four.” You yawn. “That’s Miller, he’s an ass but one of the best cops I know, good instinct and all. Next.” Looking at the monitor you zoom in, shaking your head. “That’s Detective Becker,” Tony says but you shake your head.
“No. Becker retired three weeks ago. He’s over 62. That guy is barely 32 or younger.”
“You sure?” Steve asks.
“More than sure, Cap…” you mutter as Tony watches you and Steve. “I just wanted to be sure before I rip this guy apart for hurting you…” Clearing his throat Steve corrects his words. “…and your colleagues…”
“I don’t know this guy, but he’s for sure not Becker.”
“Great. Tony, keep her safe…” Storming out of the room Steve can’t see the smirk on Tony’s face or the eye-roll you give him. “He likes you…”
“I think Captain America likes everyone. He’s just a good guy…” You shrug.
“First of all, Steve doesn’t like everyone and believe it or not I can see if a guy is into someone. Give him a chance. We need to get our Captain out of his bachelor status…” Tony smirks as you roll your eyes again.
“I think Steve can handle this on his own. He’s a grown man…a tall man…with muscles and the bluest eyes, I ever saw, and his voice does things to me…” Trailing off you glare at Tony who is looking at you with a smug grin all over his voice. “Well, fuck me…”
“No swear words while being around Captain America and I have to decline this offer as Steve will rip me a new hole if I try to hit on you, Detective. He’s a fan after all.” Tony chuckles.
“Fan?”
“Yeah. He saw you in the news and won’t stop swooning about how tough you must be, how smart and how pretty your smile is…”
Mouth agape you watch Steve dragging the fake Becker into Tony’s office. While the guy struggles against Steve’s strength Captain America doesn’t even sweat.
“I think Natasha will have some fun interrogating this guy,” Steve mutters dropping the cursing man to the floor.
“Good job, Cap.” Tony chuckles. “You better bring Detective Y/L/N to your room, ahem…I mean her room. She must be exhausted…”
----
“What a day. I almost got killed. Met Captain America and solved a case with the Avengers. Not bad for a small-town girl…” You chuckle as Steve carries you back toward the medical bay.
“I had fun too…uh…would you…I mean…” Clearing his throat Steve carefully places you onto the bed. “Detective Y/L/N would you give me the honor to go out with me…I’ll pay. You can buy me the steak later.” Steve stammers.
“It will be my honor, Captain. But, I prefer Y/N…”
“Steve…”
“God, Rogers. Tell her you are fangirling for months.” Tony mutters from the hallway. “Just get yourself a life, a girl and maybe some sex.”
“Tony!” Steve warns.
“I wouldn’t mind…uh…” Your cheeks heat up as you look at Steve, flustered. “I mean the date…”
“Same…” Steve is nervously glancing at you.
“I mean sex is not out of the picture but not after a first date, Rogers.”
“I would never…I’m a gentleman.”
“I know you are but is there a dirty man hidden underneath this righteous suit?” You whisper as Steve gives you a dirty smirk. “A gentleman doesn’t kiss and tell…”
“Hmm…then just kiss me and tell no one…”
His lips are on yours in a blink. Soft and gentle he moves his pillows against yours, careful…deliberate. The complete opposite of the strength he shows during fights.
“Okay…this was…” Steve moans against your lips.
“I’m sorry to disturb you but we got a problem,” Tony says clearing his throat. “According to the information this guy gave us Porter’s family is still alive, held hostage and they won’t let them go except for we give them the whereabouts of all imprisoned members of an organization called Red Storm.”
“Never heard of it.” Steve mutters not amused Tony disturbed your intimate moment.
“These people kidnap and sell young girls. They are specialized in human trafficking. We blew up one of their covers and arrest at least fifteen members. Masters, McKenzie, Porter and I were the ones storming the building in cooperation with Director Fury and Shield.” You explain.
“They are selling girls?” Steve curses not believing people can be that cruel some. “Sadly…yes. One of the girls was barely ten. We came just in time. These girls were as these bastards called it ‘fresh meat’.” Sighing you slam your fist into the mattress. “We can’t let one of these monsters go, Steve. They will do it again.”
“Don’t worry. Now you’ve got the Avengers on your side. Tell us everything you know about this organization, Detective.” Tony exclaims dialing Fury’s number. “This guy wanted to hack Fury’s computer to get the needed information. The attack was only a red herring.”
“Steve…I can’t let them go back to ‘work’.”
“We won’t. You and I will take them down and after, you’ll buy me this steak.” A grin on his face Steve squeezes your hand.
“Sounds like a plan, Captain.”
“Believe me…blue-white-red and grey – perfect combination…”
“Grey?”
“You wore a grey pantsuit when I saw you in the news…”
“I like it…lets get the bad guys then and I’ll wear the suit for you again…”
“Guys, no flirting…” Tony groans watching you and Steve pining for each-other. “We got work to do. Fury will meet us in thirty…he's pissed...”

Lingering river flooding continues to trouble Florida as waters slowly recede, following the torrential downpours unleashed by Hurricane Milton.
Rivers and streams around the Tampa area and in north-central Florida, which bore the brunt of Hurricane Milton’s deadly path across the state, remain significantly above flood stage days after the storm made landfall last Wednesday. Several rivers have reached major flood stage.
Climate and Average Weather Year Round in 36201 - Anniston AL
Hurricane Milton may have passed, but its impact lingers as torrential rainfall—exceeding a foot in many parts of Florida—continues to cause problems well into the week.
Rivers and streams around the Tampa area and north-central Florida, which bore the brunt of Milton’s destructive path, remain far above flood stage, even days after the storm's landfall last Wednesday. Several rivers have reached major flood stage, with a few setting all-time records, surpassing those from other notorious hurricanes in the region.
The flooding has resulted in over 1,000 water rescues throughout the region, with more than 700 of those taking place in Hillsborough County in the Tampa area, according to the sheriff's office. The rescues included a 91-year-old woman from a submerged home along the Alafia River, as well as a significant operation involving more than 500 residents trapped in feet-deep water at a flooded apartment complex in Clearwater.
youtube
Tampa set a record with 11.54 inches of rain, while St. Petersburg recorded an even higher total of 18.54 inches in just one day.
The Hillsborough River crested nearly 2 feet above record levels on Friday at Zephyrhills and has been receding since then, according to National Weather Service river gauges. However, at Morris Bridge, the river peaked on Saturday morning more than 3 feet above the record flood stage.
It is expected to continue its slow decline throughout the week but will remain above major flood stage until Monday and above moderate flood stage until Wednesday.
The Alafia River at Lithia, located just outside Tampa, is currently in moderate flood stage but is gradually receding.
In Pasco County, northwest of Tampa, Cypress Creek in the Lutz area reached 15.08 feet on Sunday, surpassing the previous record by about a foot. The National Weather Service anticipates that the river will crest around 15 feet on Monday and remain above major flood stage at least through Wednesday.
On Sunday, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office advised residents in low-lying areas to evacuate for their safety, following the National Weather Service's forecast for Cypress Creek and the Anclote River.
Weather Forecast For 85255 Scottsdale AZ:
https://www.behance.net/gallery/202906557/Weather-Forecast-For-85255-Scottsdale-AZ
The Anclote River in Elfers peaked at 26.57 feet, just a foot shy of the record. It remains in moderate flood stage and is expected to stay at flood stage through the middle of the week.
In Hernando County, sandbags were being provided to residents due to flooding along the Withlacoochee River.
"This water, unlike surge water, will persist for an extended period," said Hernando County Administrator Jeff Rogers. "It may take one to three weeks for the water to recede sufficiently."
This concern was shared by other officials in Hernando County.
"Many neighborhoods we drove through this afternoon are already experiencing significant water levels rising," said Hernando County Director of Public Safety and Fire Chief Paul Hasenmeier. "If you haven't evacuated yet, please do so before your route to higher ground becomes inaccessible. It's crucial to pay attention, have a plan, and leave now before it's too late."
Further east, between Orlando and Daytona Beach, where 8 to 15 inches of rain fell, forecasters and first responders are closely monitoring the St. Johns River. "Extensive, long-lasting river flooding" is expected to continue for several days.
The river is projected to reach major flood stage from Astor to Sanford. The gauge at Astor has already recorded a new preliminary high, surpassing levels observed after Hurricane Ian. Additionally, significant flooding persists on the Little Wekiva River near Altamonte Springs, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.

Police in Clermont, a city in Lake County, reported that residents of the Emerald Lakes Mobile Home Park were evacuated due to rising water levels. They expressed gratitude to both first responders and residents who assisted those affected by the flooding over the weekend. Given Florida's flat terrain, river flooding is expected to take a significant amount of time to recede.
"The St. Johns River is particularly notorious for its slow drainage because it barely changes elevation from its headwaters to its mouth at the Atlantic," explained Greg Diamond, a senior meteorologist at FOX Weather. "Over a span of 310 miles, it only drops 27 feet, which is about 1 inch per mile. Additionally, the river is tidal, meaning the incoming tide reverses the flow of water more than halfway up the river twice a day, further slowing the drainage."
As a result, forecasters are warning residents to prepare for ongoing challenges.
"Expect long-term flood impacts that may persist for several weeks," meteorologists at NWS Melbourne cautioned.

Time for your Rock Report
Nita Strauss is returning to Alice Cooper's band for his 2023 tour, Cooper's management has disclosed. The Alice Cooper North American tour, with an all-new show dubbed "Too Close For Comfort," kicks off in late April in Michigan and continues through late September. The trek includes a handful of August stadium shows with Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe, followed by a co-headlining late summer "Freaks On Parade" tour with Rob Zombie. "She's Back!" Cooper said. "Nita asked for a leave of absence to work with someone else, something I always encourage my band members to do. I like them to challenge themselves and try new things. I'm thankful to my old friend Kane Roberts for stepping up and filling in for her, but she'll be back with us for the new tour that starts up in late April. It's going to be great to have her back. The top-rated guitarist had been with Cooper for several years until she departed to do a Fall 2022 tour with Demi Lovato.
Peter Gabriel has announced details of the long-awaited North American leg of "i/o - The Tour," a 2023 run across Europe and North America this spring and fall. Gabriel will perform in Quebec City, Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Fans should also stay tuned for future tour date announcements in Washington, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, St. Paul, Denver, Austin, Dallas and Houston. "i/o - The Tour" will see Gabriel playing new material from his forthcoming album i/o, as well as delving into his catalogue of music.
Roger Waters recently shared a snippet of music from his re-recorded version of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, which celebrated its 50th anniversary on March 1. Waters shared a 52-second clip on YouTube, showing him listening to the first verse of a reworked "Us and Them" in the studio. He also posted a lengthy description of the project, which does not feature his former bandmates. "We are now in the process of finishing the final mix. It's turned out really great and I'm excited for everyone to hear it. It's not a replacement for the original which, obviously, is irreplaceable," Waters said. "But it is a way for the 79-year-old man to look back across the intervening 50 years into the eyes of the 29-year-old and say, to quote a poem of mine about my father, 'We did our best, we kept his trust, our Dad would have been proud of us.'"
He added, "And also it is a way for me to honour a recording that Nick and Rick and Dave and I have every right to be very proud of."

15. Three quotes that have a special place in your life.
“Many years from now, I want to be able to say: through the hard times and the good times, I had a wondrous time.” - Olan Rogers
“There will come a time you’ll see, with no more tears when love will not break your heart but dismiss your fears, get over your hill and see what you find there with grace in your heart and flowers in your hair.” - Mumford and Sons (no joke, this song stopped me from killing myself about ten years ago)
“So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be.” - The Perks of Being a Wallflower
24. 3 places that makes you feel peaceful

For better or for worse, I have a job that is exempt - to a great degree - from the widespread need for isolation (in the world of news radio, the show must go on). However, I do get days off and thank goodness for that because my brain can only take so much constant pandemic talk.
So! I offer up ‘the ultimate music list’, something I started doing on YouTube last year. Maybe earlier. It’s a living list, it will never be complete. Anyway, listen to the way my music mind rambles! All songs listed on the other side of the keep reading line (not linked, you gotta do some of the work):
