On 18 February 2016, the peaceful town of Rochdale, Greater Manchester, was shattered by the brutal murder of Jalal Uddin, a retired imam. The Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, has now declared the initiation of an inquiry into this heinous crime, breathing new life into the quest for justice.   A Life of Devotion and Tragic End Jalal Uddin, born in Pakistan in 1942, migrated to the UK in the 1960s. For years, he served as an imam at the Jalalia Jamé mosque in Rochdale, leaving an indelible mark through his kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to his faith. His murder in a children's playground after evening prayers sent shockwaves through the tight-knit community.  

The Night Jalal Uddin Became a Victim

Walking home from a friend's house after attending mosque prayers, Uddin fell prey to a brutal attack. Two men, Mohammed Hussain Syeedy and Mohammed Kadir, wielding a hammer, ended his life in a senseless act of violence. Syeedy was convicted and sentenced to life in prison, while Kadir, having fled the country, remains beyond the reach of justice.   The Unanswered Questions Surrounding Uddin's Death The motive behind Uddin's murder remains elusive, casting a lingering shadow over the tragic event. Speculation suggests Syeedy's disapproval of Uddin's practice of taweez, a form of faith healing, may have been a driving force.
