Some good Phantom moments from 2022:
Phantom anniversaries! Broadway’s 34th anniversary also marked Emilie Kouatchou’s first official principal Christine show (which also made her the first black principal Christine on Broadway).
Sydney Harbour! The first outdoor production of Phantom, complete with a chariot, fire, and ‘Point of No Return’ in the rain.
Unofficial photos! Melanie Gowie (London Phantom dresser and former Carlotta) and Greg Mills (Broadway swing) continue to stun with their unofficial backstage/onstage photos.
Live performances! Probably the biggest one was at the Queen’s Jubilee.
Raoul’s, Raoul’s, and more Raoul’s! While John Riddle killed it in Titanique, Jordan Donica, Paul Schaefer, and Jason Forbach all took turns as principal Raoul. Jordan’s return also marked the first time more than one black actor was in the trio at the same time on Broadway.
Restaged Tour! After being put off for a year, the Australian Restaged Tour finally opened featuring former London cast members Josh Piterman, Amy Manford, and Bridget Costello.
Non-replicas! Several non-replicas had performances this year, including Hungary. Budapest also had (or eventually will have) their first big cast change since the production opened over 20 years ago.
Korean production! Cast was officially announced for Phantom’s return to Korea.
Chinese production! The first production to actually be performed in Mandarin.
Diversity, Role Swaps, AND New Productions! Besides seeing some real progress in diverse casting across the board, there were also tons of former cast members that returned to various productions (mos tof the time due to Covid cases). Australia saw Josh Robson (Sydney Harbour Phantom) as Raoul and Claire Lyon (former World Tour Christine) show up in Melbourne. They both had to re-learn the show as it’s different staging and did so in less than two days.

Happy birthday crime writer Val McDermid who was born in Kirkcaldy on June 4th 1955.
Val grew up on the East Coast of Scotland, a small town famous for producing linoleum and for being the birthplace of the economist Adam Smith. It was at the heart of the Fife coalfield, she says she spent a lot of her childhood with her grandparents in the mining village of East Wemyss.
McDermid was accepted to read English at St Hilda’s College, Oxford – at 17, one of the youngest undergraduates they’d ever taken on, and the first from a Scottish state school. Val said she survived the culture shock of arriving in a place where no-one understood a word she said, and seized every experience she could get her hands on.
She trained as a journalist and worked on various national newspapers for 14 years before becoming a writer. Her first published book was Report for Murder and since then, she has written a large number of crime novels.
My favourite of hers is Wire in the Blood which went on to made into a TV series starring Robson Green. The series has finished but Tony lives on in print, the latest instalment, How the Dead Speak went on sale in 2019.
Val's latest book is Past Lying, and is the 7th in her Inspector Karen Pirie series. Last month she was nominated for Theakston Crime Novel of the Year. Val McDermid has sold over 19 million books to date across the globe and has been translated into more than 40 languages.

April 1979, October 1979, and August 1980. These novels by Brian Daley were not the first STAR WARS tie-ins, but they were the best of the early phase, and a strong influence on later SW media. The creative success of these exciting, frequently very funny books, which chronicle three adventures of Han Solo and Chewbacca prior to the first movie, had a lot to do with Daley himself. According to Daley's friends and his partner, novelist Lucia St. Clair Robson, Daley was Han Solo, or close to it: a brash military veteran with no love of authority, a fondness for sports cars and motorcycles, and a notoriously sarcastic sense of humor that concealed a heart of gold. Ironically, Daley, who genuinely loved STAR WARS, would have preferred to explore the history of the Jedi, but Lucas declared that off-limits, and imposed many restrictions on what Daley could and couldn't use from the films. For that reason, the novels take place on the fringes of the Empire: The first two books are set in the Corporate Sector, a region administered semi-autonomously by corporate interests with their own ruthless Security Police (an idea that clearly inspired some of the plot of ANDOR), while the third is set in the Tion Hegemony, a remote principality.
HAN SOLO AT STARS' END has Han and Chewie roped into aiding a group of people whose relatives have been "disappeared" by the Corporate Sector Authority, which is quietly rounding up dissidents and sending them to a secret facility called Stars' End. After Chewbacca is captured by the Security Police, Han concocts an elaborate, harebrained scheme to rescue his friend and the other "lost ones" from the galaxy's most closely guarded high-tech prison. Naturally, things don't go quite as planned, leading to a spectacularly ludicrous finale. (Spoiler: Han accidentally launches the prison complex into space.) This novel was subsequent adapted for the STAR WARS newspaper strip by Archie Goodwin and Alfredo Alcala, although the adaptation unfortunately isn't a patch on the original.
HAN SOLO'S REVENGE finds Han and Chewbacca, desperate for cash, taking a job that turns out to involve transporting slaves. This is a line our heroes will not cross, so after dealing harshly with the slavers, Han agrees to help a Corporate Sector Authority auditor named Fiolla of Lorrd track down the ringleaders of the operation, one of whom is her once-trusted assistant, Magg. Meanwhile, Chewbacca is forced to contend with a stubborn skip-tracer called Spray, who is determined to repossess the Millennium Falcon over Han and Chewie's unpaid bills!
HAN SOLO AND THE LOST LEGACY has Han and Chewbacca agreeing to help Han's old buddy Badure, Badure's friend Hasti, and an academic named Skynx locate a legendary lost starship, the Queen of Ranroon, the fabled treasure ship of an ancient tyrant called Xim the Despot. (The skull on the cover is Xim's emblem.) Although this sounds like it was influenced by RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, the book was actually published almost a year before the premiere of RAIDERS.
Although the novels make clear that Han is not overly fond of droids, the books give Han and Chewbacca a pair of droid companions: a laconic old labor droid called Bollux, and a small, extremely sophisticated, disconcertingly enthusiastic computer probe called Blue Max, who "lives" within a compartment in Bollux's chest. Here's how Alfredo Alcala depicted them in the comic strip:
Tumblr media
Daley also includes some delightful aliens, including the skip-tracer Spray, who's a Tynnan — basically a sentient beaver with the dexterity of a raccoon — and the Ruurian academic Skynx, a sentient caterpillar who's determined to complete as much of his research as he can before entering the next phase of his life cycle and becoming a chroma-wing who'll have little memory of his former identity.
A useful companion for the first two books is Michael Allen Horne's HAN SOLO AND THE CORPORATE SECTOR SOURCEBOOK for the West End STAR WARS RPG, published in 1993:
Tumblr media
Aside from the inevitable game statistics and some quite decent illustrations of the novels' characters, the sourcebook fleshes out Daley's conception of the Corporate Sector Authority, explaining how the Corporate Sector functions and its relationship to the Empire. This is narrated in part by Han Solo himself, which is presented as excerpts of later interviews with an Alliance historian named Voren Na'al (a common conceit in the WEG game books that works especially well here). The sourcebook is best read after the novels, since it explains their plots in detail, but it's a worthwhile supplement. Unfortunately, a planned followup describing the Tion Hegemony was never published before West End Games lost the SW license.
Brian Daley's other major contribution to STAR WARS lore was scripting the NPR radio adaptations of the first three movies. STAR WARS originally aired in the spring of 1981, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK two years later. Daley also wrote the later adaptation of RETURN OF THE JEDI, but he died of cancer in early 1996, at the age of 49, so the final drafts were completed by John Whitman.

I watch Cooking Fast and Fresh with West: Episode 1 and I know where in Vancouver Misha was living before he moved out to Bellingham - a step by step guide:
date of publishing on youtube: 13 January 2013 date of recording: autumn 2012
Tumblr media
To make it easy, at the beginning Misha says that he is in Canada (I assume it's Vancouver) and it's fall.
Tumblr media
Vicky behind the camera and they start the walk to the grocery store by the building with a fountain and a street with a green bike lane. Maybe they live in that building, maybe across the street, maybe they only started recording here? To make search for this place easier I keep watching.
Tumblr media
Another valuable info - the grocery store is close.
There is a Starbucks on route to the store:
Tumblr media
Inside the building, to enter the store, they need to go up the ramp - another valuable info.
Tumblr media
Once inside we get a name of the grocery store - it's SAFEWAY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A quick googling tells me that in Vancouver there is several of these, but luckily the first one (on Robson St) I checked was the right one:
Tumblr media
I look to the right and there is even the same Starbucks - later I will go in that direction.
Tumblr media
Back to the video - Misha and West end the stroll by the same building where they started:
Tumblr media
So I look for a street with a green bike lane in close proximity of the grocery store - there is Alberni Street 200 meters (656 ft) north of the shop:
Tumblr media
This is the building where they started:
Tumblr media
But is this the building where they were living? And if yes, then which window was theirs? I keep watching the video.
Once in the kitchen we can see that: his apartment is not on the ground level but also not very high, his balcony is facing the street with the green bike lane, there is a characteristic tree across the street, the design of the balcony matches the design of the building with the fountain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Through the window above the sink we can see the wall of the nearby building and a small tree:
Tumblr media
so the first balcony above the ground was Misha's:

Alex Ferguson
Awal karier
Alexander Chapman Ferguson lahir dari pasangan Alexander Beaton Ferguson, seorang buruh pekerja galangan kapal dengan Elizabeth Hardie. Ia menghabiskan masa kecilnya di daerah Govan,Skotlandia bersama adiknya Martin Ferguson.
Karier klub

Provenance mysteries: The Countesse of Pembrokes Arcadia
Tumblr media
The first provenance mystery of 2023 features Sir Philip Sidney’s The Countesse of Pembrokes Arcadia, published in London in 1593. As can be seen here, the title is set within a lavishly decorated woodcut border.
Tumblr media
The book was presented to the Library on 30 June 1876 by James Claude Webster (1840-1908), whose bookplate is visible here. In addition to being a member of Middle Temple, he belonged to the Athenaeum Club. As club secretary, he wrote to Robert Browning on 4 February 1862 to admit him as a member. He also contributed articles to the Encyclopaedia Britannica.
Sidney’s Arcadia (to use the shortened title) was published posthumously by his sister Mary Herbert, based on a manuscript version. It was written “in the new genre of prose romance,” and is believed to have been an inspiration for a scene in Shakespeare’s King Lear. Sidney died in battle near the town of Zutphen, and was buried in the old St. Paul’s cathedral in 1587.
Tumblr media
The provenance mystery concerns the myriad of names found in this copy of one of the most famous works of early modern English prose. As can be seen here, the front end-leaf was used by a variety of young people to test out their pens. On this end-leaf we can see the following names: Dorothy Greaves; Robert Demetrius; Ann/e Bind; and John Greaves. There is one addition exercise, a four leaf clover, and what could possibly be some shorthand being tested (see under the name Dorothy Greaves). Another name is faintly visible: Tho Hey, and an aborted name: Doro.
There is a well-known John Greaves (1602-1652), a mathematician “who was interested in measuring ancient monuments.” Could our copy of Arcadia be evidence of the childish hand of this John Greaves?
Two further names are visible on the title page: John Grevail/n and Thomas Vincent 1754. The latter could be the oboist and composer Thomas Vincent (c. 1720-1783). Intriguingly, Vincent’s will stated that some of his income was to pass to James Robson, a bookseller in New Bond Street, suggesting a debt of some kind owed to Robson by Vincent.
Tumblr media
There is one further provenance piece, at the end of the book – yet another name (possibly) is visible, P Pense [?] with the words ‘must stand to the same’ visible.
As ever, if you have comments or suggestions on this mystery, email us at: [email protected].

Last Thing I Googled: Feudal Japan
Seriously would love to read a Klaine fic set in Feudal Japan. Has there been any written in that time period? If you know of something, PLEASE send me a link!
I'm craving a story of Blaine as a wandering samurai and Kurt maybe as anything . . maybe a Kabuki performer/ owner of a Ryokan (Japanese inn) / tea house? Or both as Samurai?
There's a favorite old historical fiction I love called The Tokaido Road by Lucia St. Clair Robson. I can so see a Klaine fic very much in that vein.
Seriously if you love to read, I definitely recommend it! 💖💖
Dang it, I may have to write a fic one day based on all this if one doesn't already exist.
(Fun Fact: I've actually always been fascinated with Japan and Japanese culture/literature since college ( and way before I ever saw Glee/ became fans of Darren( who also loves Japan) and Chris ( and his sai-wielding ways).) I blame it all on picking up a fascinating book by anthropologist Liza Dalby called Geisha. She was one of the few Westerners at the time to be allowed to go through formal Geisha training. Great, informative read. Recommend that too.
Dream trip: This is hard to choose. Of places I've never been: Japan, definitely . . but I'd also like to go to Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Vietnam, Taiwan . . pretty much anywhere I could go and eat my way through the country ( I love food).
But if I had to pick places I've been already, I'd definitely say Hawaii would be at the top. Loved it there. I'd love to go back to England and France one day too.

3, 15, 19, 20 for the book ask prompt !! :D
ahh thank you for asking!! <3
3. what is your favourite genre?
i wanna be all cool and say its scifi but based on my stats its definitely not. its fantasy. i read so much fantasy its silly
15. recommend and review a book.
back in march i read Drunk on All Your Strange New Words by Eddie Robson and it definitely deserves way more hype!! i've been kinda into scifi murder mysteries recently and this one was really good. i got hooked into the plot so fast and was so intrigued by all the twists, i never really predicted anything! (that's a low bar for me though i never know what's happening in a murder mystery). i also really enjoyed the world building, i thought it was so creative and so much fun!
19. most disliked popular books?
HOT TAKE TIME. first, ugh, Rubyfruit Jungle by Rita Mae Brown. I know its like the quintessential southern lesbian book but I went in blind and fucking hated this thing. it has such an aura of pompousness in it that i can't get past. and let's not even get into the r/pe and inc/st like girlies. why is this our book?!! NEXT ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK is Malice by Heather Walter. What the fuck is this thing. God, i am a hater, but i rated this 1 star yet all my goodreads buddies that read it too raved over it. main character is a fucking doormat, the rest of the cast has motivations that are either inscrutable or make NO SENSE. guys. there's good lesbian fantasy we can read instead. FINALLY Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke by Eric LaRocca because all of my hottest of takes are about WLW fiction i hate. but wow there's a lot to hate here. men stop writing trauma porn about lesbians challenge. it's just a bunch of shock gore and on top of that it has the audacity of having the worst pacing of my LIFE. ugh.
20. what are things you look for in a book?
i need interesting characters who have interesting relationships with each other! i don't care how cool the plot is if i'm not invested in character dynamics. give me something to live vicariously through !!

Isle of the Dead (Mark Robson, 1945)
Cast: Boris Karloff, Ellen Drew, Marc Cramer, Katherine Emery, Helene Thimig, Alan Napier, Jason Robards Sr., Ernst Deutsch. Screenplay: Ardel Wray. Cinematography: Jack MacKenzie. Art direction: Albert S. D’Agostino, Walter E. Keller. Film editing: Lyle Boyer. Music: Leigh Harline.
Two famous works of art haunt (I use the obvious word intentionally) the film Isle of the Dead. The obvious one is Arnold Böcklin's painting of that name, five versions of which he painted from 1880 to 1901, the year of his death. The image is re-created early in the movie, when the Greek Gen. Nikolas Pherides (Boris Karloff) and an American reporter, Oliver Davis (Marc Cramer) sail to a Greek island to visit the grave of the general's daughter. But the other, less obvious work that comes to my mind is Francisco Goya's aquatint etching The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters, one of the images he created for the series Los caprichos in the late 1790s. In it, a man slumped at his desk is surrounded by menacing bats and owls. Producer Val Lewton's celebrated series of moody psychological horror movies in the 1940s typically depict conflicts between the scientific, rational mind and manifestations of superstition and myth. In the film, the island is swept by what a doctor (Ernst Deutsch) diagnoses as septicemic plague, but the superstitious resident of the island, Madame Kyra, believes it's caused by a vorvolaka, a vampire-like creature she thinks is embodied in the pretty young Thea (Ellen Drew), who is nursing the sickly Mrs. St. Aubyn (Katherine Emery). And when the doctor himself dies, the superstitious view begins to win out, especially with the general. But the narrative track of the movie, which inevitably includes a romance between the reporter and Thea, and which tends to come apart at the seams a little toward the end, matters less than the creepy effect it creates, including such horrors as the fear of being buried alive. Karloff gives the best performance, of course, as he degenerates from the imperious general who calmly sends a delinquent officer off to commit suicide into a man gripped by terrors he can't face.
