Headcanon of the Day Pt.2

Continuing on yesterday's post about Riza's scars. Cuz I'm obsessed with them. There will be a part 3!

Riza's tattoo is not technically a tattoo. We don't see a whole lot of them in FMA (I know Kimblee and Scar but still). Riza's looks different to me when I see it in color, almost browner? I think her Father used flame alchemy to burn it into her skin like a brand. The ownership implied in a branding plays with my head in messed up ways there y'all.

I go with the theory that it's a burn rather than a tattoo, and she thinks burning it is the only way to cover it up successfully. Plus, it's self-flagellation on her part. Thoughts?

So like when I got my nipples pierced, I was so cool and passed out in the lobby 😎 anyways, riza bravely coming out of the back room excited to show Roy her new piercing and then proceeding to collapse into his arms

Ghsjgh yeah I imagine it is super painful and sensitive. I wonder it they do them one by one or both at the same time...

I’m imagining riza gets them done when she is in the military academy. Maybe Rebecca can catch her from fainting. Or if she does get them later, she does not tell roy about it. She wanted it for herself and it’s a bit awkward to drop that info on your boss randomly lolll. Regardless, I want roy to find out about the piercings later and be surprised by it. Like they still learn things they didn’t know about each other :) and play with em :) once/when they get toghether

FMAB Post Canon Headcanons that no one asked for:

Ed sometimes still uses his left hand for fine motor tasks or to feel the texture of things despite having his right arm back

his right shoulder acts up during bad weather

He never goes through surgery to remove the leftover bits of automail from his shoulder

he says he doesn't want someone to mess with his body to cover up the fact that his previous surgeries were really traumatic and he's afraid of having to go through recovery again

Winry is the only person that is allowed to touch his automail leg

when she's too pregnant to work Ed has to go to another mechanic and all he does is gush about her amazing work

Ed goes through physical therapy to get his strength back in his right arm

He secretly keeps his state alchemist watch (he makes up some lie about how he lost it to Roy)

And proceeds to make his and Winry's wedding rings out of

Al gets a small pendant made out of Ed's pocket watch (is there enough metal for all that? I don't really know or care /lh)

While traveling after the promised day Ed realizes that he gets nightmares when he sleeps alone (which leads to some awkward talks with Al)

Ed & Al make sure that Hohenheim gets a headstone next to Trisha's

Ed becomes a stay-at-home dad because he doesn't know what job to take and he's seen everything he wants to see (at least most of it)

(also, he doesn't want to repeat his father's mistake by staying away)

when Winry's and his children are a bit older and things have settled he becomes a counselor to Roy and the parliament

(aka he gets paid to call Roy a bastard and have a good idea once in a while)

Winry has to force him to take that job because he's become annoying now that the children don't need to be looked after at all times

Ed secretly wishes that their children had Winry's blue eyes (and he'll tell everyone but her)

when they get married it was originally supposed to be a small celebration in Resembool

however Armstrong got wind of it and suddenly it turned into a public affair that ends up in the newspaper

even Ling shows up as official guest

Maybe I should just write a fanfic at this point lol

Bring On the Rain Ch. 2

Her skin is argent and pearly, glowing like the sun in warm evening light. Roy thinks it must be the loveliest color he’s ever seen. He remembers how soft she was when he touched her that last day by the riverbank, how her hands always felt smooth and cool.

His hands itch to touch her. She’s so close, laid out before him with one hand holding open a book, her head resting on her arm. She looks so innocent and vulnerable with her back bare, lying on her goddamn bed . Part of him wants to cover her up to protect her from his own prying gaze. Part of him wants to cross the space between them and finally touch all of that soft skin, everywhere he can reach. He curses himself. For leaving her here two years ago, for not going AWOL and getting on the next train the day she called, for planning to leave again .

You’re a fool, Mustang.

He’s supposed to be studying the alchemy, and not her, when she shifts slightly, stretching. Roy lets out a grunt, his breath catching. He imagines kissing the delicate sprinkle of freckles at the nape of her neck. They make him think of warm brown sugar, and he wonders if she’d taste as sweet.

Writing early post Ishval Royai is hard because in my mind that period of time is very awkward and non romantic. The issue is with writing dialogue: because the usual way these two interact is a lot of dry banter and flirting, (which they would still do to break the tension) buuut I don’t want them to be too casual, or comfortable, or quite frankly too into each other at this point in time, ya know?

Little detour talking about more character study-ish stuff:

This post Ishval period is so interesting. Because Roy and Riza are both at an extreme low in their lives, and in their relationship with each other, but the back burning stuff forces them to be very vulnerable and intimate with each other right in the middle of it.

As far as Riza goes, she’s very angry and hurt because of how Roy betrayed her with the use of her father’s research. She probably hates him a little in spite of herself. But also, there’s a part of her that still loves him and looks up to him. And with the death of her father, it probably feels like he’s all she has left.

And then Roy, as we know, is overcome by guilt and shame for what he did in Ishval, particularly where it concerns Riza. But instead of being able to go hide from his problems, he has to face them head on when Riza asks him to burn her back. There’s no way he can deny her because he sort of ruined her life (at least in his mind) and owes it to her to fulfill whatever she asks of him.

So there you have it, they kind of want nothing to do with each other atm, but also are desperate to rely on and care for each other. Everything about their past is so interwoven and connected that it always takes them back to each other, no matter how much it hurts.

Truly insane. And this is why I love Arakawa’s storytelling so much.

is there any overlap between fma fans and fans of the grishaverse and the grisha trilogy in particular? i am want to put my otps from any other fandom into it always because i like the setting and magic system and i usually go for the places of darklina (yeah yeah. it’s about the Flavor) but realized royai are actually SO malina coded. i am probably the only person with any thoughts on this but i must know.

Honestly thank god I didn't find twewy earlier in life I would've been insufferable about it. Twelve year old me was NOT comprehending a single goddamn thing I would've just been emboldened to wear headphones in public while sharing dozens upon dozens of increasingly low-effort Neku loves chicken nuggets memes on Facebook to the horror of my many loved ones. The self-insert fanfiction would've been insane.
