WYOMING
2023 Sep 6 (Wed) – We did laundry this morning.  UPS tried to deliver my medicine yesterday but the clerk refused to sign for it.  I went into the office looking for it to be re-delivered today and to make sure they knew to sign for it or call me to come up to sign.
After the laundry, we drove over to Camping World, right behind the campground.  The store was large and everything was spread out.  Unfortunately, they did not have what we wanted.  Then we drove to Blue Compass, a new RV dealer that has been growing over the last 4 years (we welcome any competition to Camping World).  They didn’t have what we wanted either, but we took time to look at a few fifth wheels.  We didn’t see anything we liked.
After return, the campground, I reviewed the video Paul has put together for the caravan, putting in titles and comments where appropriate.  I walked over to the office at a little after 5 to get my medicine (the office called at 3:30 to say they got it).  The office was closed but when I knocked on the window, the clerk opened it and gave me my package.
We had left-overs for dinner tonight.  Then I got online and shopped for a Starlink satellite dish.  Beth told me that she found Home Depot not only carries the product, but they give you a 10% military discount.  I ordered the satellite and after some fenagling with the delivery address, arranged to pick it up at the Home Depot store in Cedar Rapids.
2023 Sep 5 (Tue) – We packed up and left River’s Edge RV Park at 9:30 a.m.  We didn’t have that far to travel today – 180 miles.  We stopped once for a brief lunch.  I have been surprised by the interstate routes in this part of the county (I-80 and I-25).  They have no rest stops.  It has been hard to find places to stop.  We pulled off on an exit ramp to take a break.
Arrived at Cheyenne RV Resort in Cheyenne at 1 p.m.  After we all checked in and got ourselves set up, we drove to Terry Bison Ranch.  It was a ranch owned by an individual who had much livestock.  As the property passed through hands, it went from 150,000 square acres to 47,000 square acres.  They own many different kinds of livestock – goats, sheep, horses, cows, ostrich, pigs, and bison.  They have a herd of bison.  We got in an old rickety vehicle fitted to a railroad track set up to look like a train, and rod out to the pasture where a herd of bison were grazing.  When we came to a stop, some of the bison ambled over (obviously, others were full from the last train full that rode by).  We bought a bag of bison biscuits when we bought out ticket.  As the bison came up to the train, we leaned over and fed the treats to the animals.  What fun!  I have never fed a bison before.  They have a long, purple tongue – much like a giraffe.  There was some jostling going on among the beasts but they all seemed to get a treat without too much fuss.
After we got back to the station, we drove to T Joe’s Steakhouse for dinner (steakhouse two nights in a row!).  I had fried walleye.  I have never eaten that before.  It was light and flaky.  Very good.  Paul had rib eye (again), and everyone else had some version of steak.  Everything was delicious.
2023 Sep 4 (Mon – Labor Day – 52nd Anniversary!) – We arrived in Evansville, WY, around noon.  It was an easy 120 mile drive today.  The landscape is interesting – lots of plateaus, small mountain ranges, open plains, ranches, and plenty of spacious areas.  The wind picked up in the afternoon.  When we checked in at River’s Edge RV Park, it was overcast with warnings of rain and hail.  The wind was gusting hard.
I tried to upload the memory book on Staples website.  I want to get it printed and pick it up in Amana, IA.  The only option offered is for delivery.  I tried to call the store but the clerk didn’t know much about the printing services.  I will have to either get a help call to someone or wait until Amana and go directly to the store.
The six of us went out to dinner at the Fire Rock Steakhouse.  We all enjoyed our meal very much.
2023 Sep 3 (Sun) – We left Columbus, MT at 9:35 and headed out for 225 miles to Buffalo, WY.  Deer Park Campground is a very pleasant facility.  We have FHU with a heated pool (if we wanted).  We had a group meal while the sky grew dark and the wind picked up.  It threatened to rain but never did.  We walked over to a nearby field and tried to feed two horses carrots but they weren’t interested.  I finished the memory book for the caravan.  I will now try to get it printed.  Paul still works on the video.

Site Seeing the Dallas and Fort Worth Area
When visiting the Dallas/Fort Wort area there many accommodations available, from family suites to RV resorts. For example, the Texan RV Ranch in Mansfield has 159 full hook sites with cable TV, swimming pool, ranch house for group functions and convenient store. In addition, this campground gives one the country setting with the city convenience. Furthermore, The Texan RV Resort is ideally located to Dallas, Arlington, and Fort Worth.
The 190-mile drive from Mansfield South to Burnett where Longhorn Cavern State Park is located, an underground wonder created by the dissolving and cutting action of an ancient river.  Here one can take the guided tour which is ninety minutes and covers just over a mile of the more than eight miles of cavern. The State Park if free to enter, yet one has to pay for the Cavern tour. Once inside, one will discover the wonders of what nature can do and provide for our enjoyment. Learning about the history of the Cavern is quiet fascinating. While some areas of the cavern are open, others are pretty tight and very attractive.
Everyone should spend at least one day in downtown Dallas. Fair Park just South of downtown covers 277 acres and has one of the worlds’ largest collections of art decor. The park is full of Museums, amusement venues and gardens. The biggest surprise was the Cotton Bowl stadium being in the park. Without a doubt, one could spend days at Fair park. The Dallas Heritage village just a few blocks from downtown was very educational, as well as some history of Texas. The historical society moved old buildings from around the state dating back to the late 1800’s to this location. Well worth the visit. Dallas has an abundance of places to see and things to do for all families to enjoy.
South Fork Ranch in Parker just North of Dallas is a must see for anyone that followed the Dallas TV series. A gentleman named Duncan built the home for his wife and three children. When he was approached about filming there, he told them no. A week later the network showed back up and he agreed; however, there was to be no filming inside and they could only film three months out of the year, June, July and August. The scenes from the outside were filmed here, while the inside was filmed in California in a studio. The ground floor of the mansion portrays many aspects of the television series, yet the upstairs only has one bedroom which is set up as JR’s. In the visitor center, one will find memorabilia from the series.
Downtown Arlington’s River Legacy City Park, is ideal for a family picnic as well as for walking the pets. This park has off-road trails for bike riding, as well as paved walking trails.  Crystal Canyon Natural Area has only a few man-made items available and a parking lot for just nine vehicles. Walking the trail gives one the feeling of being deep in the woods, yet you are right in town. A great place for lunch is Kincaid’s Hamburger’s.
The Dallas Cowboys play all their home games at AT&T Stadium in Arlington Texas. Although many people aren’t sports fans, this is a must-see place. The stadium is the largest indoor sports venue in the world. If you place the Statue of Liberty on the playing field, it won’t touch the roof. The stadium itself, has no bad seats, for there are no support columns inside the stadium. The structure is supported by two one quarter mile arches, which are anchored in 125 feet of concrete. Unlike many stadiums, the playing field is fifty feet below the street level. This stadium hosts more than one hundred events each year.
Just at the edge of downtown Fort Worth is the Fort Worth Water Gardens. Here one will find many types of water features with magnificent landscaping. The water garden is a place to just sit and relax in a tranquil environment. Log Cabin Village, also located in Fort Worth displays nine log homes from 19th century Texas. Here one can leave the present behind and experience the past through log homes and artifacts.
A must see in Fort Worth is the Stockyard Historical District. Learn all about the old west on the walking tour and museums. Relax for a while and watch a live rodeo and old west show in the coliseum. Witness the world’s only Texas Longhorn cattle drive right down main street, afterwards get a beverage from one of the old west saloons. Have the kids visit the Cow town cattle pen maze and animal petting area. Or just relax under an umbrella in front of the Livestock Exchange building. For some authentic Texas Barbeque, try Riscky’s Barbeque located right at the Stock Yard.
For the person which enjoys the beauty of blooming flowers, the Fort Worth Botanic Garden is a must place to visit. A leisurely walk around the gardens takes about one hour. Here one will find many species of flowers and tress as well as artificial flowers and animals.
Located in Fresco is the Ford Center at The Star, home of the Dallas Cowboys training facility and Corporate offices. Here one will find an indoor practice field as well as an outdoor field. The indoor field hosts High School football games as well as other events. During events the indoor field and surrounding seating are available to the public. Other than during an event, one must pay for the guided tour. The tour will include, both practice fields, weight room, lunch room, film room, radio station, and interview room. Other areas shown, will cover the history of the Dallas Cowboys and the main lobby where their Superbowl Trophy’s are on display, as well as one ring from each Superbowl victory. One may take still pictures of anything in the building during the tour; however, no pictures are allowed in any area there are players present. Visitor’s aren’t allowed to speak, wave or approach any player.
All the above are year-round attractions one can visit along with many other activities. In addition, there are seasonal attractions as well. Without a doubt, the Dallas/Fort Worth area will keep a family entertained for weeks.

Most Beautiful Oregon Coast Camping
You’ll notice campsites and pullouts nearly immediately, but I personally favor to drive in several miles earlier than establishing camp. Located in Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, the Elk River is dotted with an abundance of dispersed campsites. Most are little greater than pull-offs, simply off the primary road, however a quantity of are massive, somewhat non-public, and even have river access. Although there isn't any longer any free beach tenting , there are some superior free campsites if you’re willing to drive about 30 to 45 minutes inland visit page.
Seaside would possibly feel like essentially the most stereotypically “beach” city along the coast, with a boardwalk and loads of memento outlets to keep vacationers busy.
If you’re attempting to keep away from the salty air or the windy weather of the Pacific Ocean, you presumably can head to the alternative aspect of the state to the Point RV Park.
Three campsites and three yurts are accessible to campers with disabilities.
The big sand dune of Cape Kiwanis is a brief stroll fromPacific City RV and Camping Resort.
We have mentioned Fort Stevens State Park numerous instances on outside exercise lists and for good reason!
There are so many to select from and all of the parks we visited have been simply stunning.
Hidden cove at Washburne There’s a simple path to the beach, containing miles of sand and a few surprises. From the main seaside entry, head south and for the subsequent mile or so you will find stunning little cove-like locations, the first of which is simply a quarter mile down the seashore. Some of those are solely possibly 30 toes extensive and 20 feet deep - which makes them excellent for letting the rays in but maintaining the wind out. Our final stop in Oregon was Fort Stevens State Park in the northwest corner of Oregon close to the attractive metropolis of Astoria.
On The Oregon Coast
Driveway lengths are listed at oregonstateparks.reserveamerica.com. All autos, including towed vehicles, should be capable of match into the paved driveway space. Check individual park pages for season Oregon coast camping dates and reservation information.
Growing up, we'd drive out and simply discover the bases and play hide and go seek in them. Aside from the navy bases, you can also bike a couple of miles further out to the gorgeous Jetty on the mouth of the Columbia River. Another nice campground near Tillamook is the Barview Jetty County Park Campground. Thie coastal campsite options 242 tent websites and 73 sites with full hook-ups and space for RVs, trailers, and tents.
New reservations are accepted in the future to 6 months prematurely for stays thatbeginwithin this time interval (effective Jan. 14, 2021). This list doesn't cover each campground on the Oregon Coast, but it must be sufficient to get your started on your itinerary! The Oregon Coast has a number of the most beautiful shores in the country.
Group camps and group picnic areas have different cancellation home windows. Over the phone, we also settle for American Express and present certificates, if the reservation arrival date is in 10 days or extra. Full fee is required at the time you make your reservation or change an current reservation.
Devil’s Lake is easily top-of-the-line Oregon Coast Campgrounds (Photo courtesy of Oregoncoast.org)This hidden little gem is said to be the only Oregon Coast campground inside a city. You will discover when you arrive, it does not really feel like you might be near town at all, with tall trees and luscious greens surrounding you. The campground is not immediately on the lake beautiful Devils Lake, nonetheless, there is a paved path nearby. Sites replenish 6 months prematurely with annual trips and repeat visitors who can not wait to return. On the edge of lovely Tillamook Bay, you can see around 293 campsites on the sting of town, overlooking both the ocean and the bay. Lisa Norwood / FlickrSaddle Mountain State Natural Area is an excellent area known for its hiking trails, wildflowers, and breathtaking Oregon coast camping views.
We rode the bike trails to the Port of Newport fishing pier and the Yaquina Bay Bridge. Boasting the most important island off the Oregon coast, Harris Beach State Park is certainly one of the best Oregon coast campgrounds. Bird Island is a wildlife sanctuary full of uncommon birds, or on land, there are sandy beaches, tide swimming pools, and rocky outcroppings, with the gorgeous scenery altering with the seasons. These extra-large campsites are great if you want slightly house, and you can work off your camper’s breakfast by mountaineering over eight miles of trails, rewarding you with ocean vistas.
Elk River Road is perfect for these looking for free camping on the southern Oregon Coast. Depending on the place you set up camp, it takes just 30 minutes to 45 minutes to drive to Port Orford. Small RVs and trailers ought to be nice, but plan to stay to the free developed campgrounds or the roadside pullouts. The first mile or two of dispersed campsites are high above the river on steep cliffs. Drive in a couple of miles for campsites proper on the river with safer river entry and one of the best swimming holes.
Find a fantastic place to camp next to the ocean with our listing of the most effective campgrounds on the Oregon Coast. This full-featured campground boasts laundry amenities, showers, and WiFi. Your lakeside keep is benefitted by its quick proximity to awesome mountaineering trails and ocean seashores. This campground fronts an ocean bay providing a lovely expertise, you will also discover one of the few real swimming seashores on the Oregon Coast. There is a lot to see nearby this state park so remember to check out Shore Acres State Park, Cape Arago, and South Slough National Estuarian Research Reserve. The beautiful sandy beaches are also protected by towering sea cliffs making them ideal for families.
Nearly half the campsites at Beverly Beach cater to tent camping, with the opposite half accommodating RVs, with full hookups and electric-only options. The historical stays of the Peter Iredale shipwreck on the seashore is a must-see sight. And distinctive to the the rest of the coast, autos are allowed on parts of the seaside at Fort Stevens. Despite this automobile visitors and its recognition for clamming, it is easy to search out your individual area on the extensive beach, which stretches for practically 20 miles to the south. This unique history, alongside an expansive sandy seashore, makes Fort Stevens one of the most well-liked places to go camping in Oregon.
Harbor Vista, within Florence, is considered one of Oregon’s lovely little secrets and techniques. There are 38 campsites right here, unfold around an space which overlooks the north jetty of the Siusilaw River. There is a gorgeous little viewpoint trying over that jetty, with an extended however wonderfully convenient pathway leading all the method down to the seashores. The pathway even options steps embedded in it a lot of the way, making it a lot easier for the climb back up. You can hike the spit for a few miles up in the path of Netarts (it’s not potential to access the spit if the tide is simply too high).
All Hosts should review and cling to those requirements round offering a positive Hipcamp expertise, being a thoughtful neighbor, and serving as a accountable citizen. Click on the map above to find all of the Oregon Coast campgrounds on this article. (If you’re thinking of merely sleeping on the beach, click right here for a myriad of causes to not do so).
During “Second Summer” because the locals call it you will see sunny and windless days within the 60s and 70s. Three Rivers Casino – Perhaps one of the best place for casino camping on the Oregon Coast, Three Rivers Casino in Florence welcomes RV boondockers to camp for up to 4 nights free of charge. Occasionally, Blue Heron French Cheese does let non-Harvest Hosts members stay for a single night time – but positively don’t rely on it.
This self-contained guest suite is inside strolling distance to the beach and downtown Brookings and has a garden, barbecue facilities, a terrace, and free WiFi. This cute wood-accented house is close to the ocean and downtown Gold Beach and has air-conditioning, WiFi, a patio, and a full kitchen. It is a unbelievable spot to view wildlife, and you might even spot a gray whale or two. The actual appeal right here though, is the encompassing, with only a brief journey to Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor. Located on the state’s Westernmost tip, Cape Blanco is a fairly impressive sight, with the Cape Blanco Lighthouse well price a visit. The fifty two electric sights are first come first served, so make positive you don’t miss out.
It has virtually 500 tenting websites out there set inside two huge loops, with all of the amenities you might want. During a keep right here, remember to go to the Military Museum and the traditional remains of the Peter Iredale shipwreck that lies on the seaside. This first-come, first-served campground is free because there’s no car entry and reaching the campsite requires a moderate 4.5 mile hike . One of the smaller state park campgrounds on the coast, Umpqua Lighthouse State Park is a mile south of Winchester Bay and close to the middle of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. South of Coos Bay and the fishing village of Charleston, Sunset Bay State Park is tucked neatly in a bay created by sandstone sea cliffs. The sheltered environment of Sunset Bay hold the waters good and calm for water play and provide refuge from the sometimes-breezy conditions on the coast.
Hares Canyon Horse Camp
While not quite as heat, late spring and early fall often makes for a less-crowded and still-lovely time to camp on the North Coast. Oregon’s North Coast presents lush forests, the smell of salt within the air, the sound of waves crashing in opposition to the shoreline, all adding as a lot as an unforgettable camping experience. There are a variety of charming camping destinations all along the North Coast, which stretches over thirty miles from Astoria to south of Cannon Beach. This part of coastline is home to many unbelievable views together with Haystack Rock and Neahkahnie Mountain which could be seen for miles as you strategy on Highway a hundred and one. At the southern end of Oregon's North Coast, this smaller park is marked by stunning headlands and is house to cabins, yurts, and tent campsites. Whether it’s the sound of the crashing waves or the distinctiveness and beauty of a mountain lake, the Pacific Northwest has a variety of the greatest seaside camping.
Amazing Oregon Coast Campgrounds To Stay At
Waterfront, full hookup sites with a great view led us to build a fire in fire pit offered and sit exterior in December! “Even the breathtaking view from the highway is adequate to go to Nehalem Bay State Park. We’ve accomplished the legwork and pared the list down to the spots which may be positioned in more populated areas, so finding a backup website won’t be so daunting. Don’t delay — pack up your marshmallows, sunblock and mosquito repellent, and try to show up at the campsite a few hours before the official check-in time of 4 p.m. Close-by can additionally be the Military Museum and final but not least every camper wants to go to the stays of the Peter Iredale shipwreck on the seashore.
In most circumstances you will want a supply of heat, a vessel to warmth up your water, coffee grounds, and naturally – a favorite mug. The easiest way is just using instant espresso, the place you place the granules in your mug earlier than pouring hot water into it. For those with a more refined palate, you could wish to convey a transportable coffee-maker with you such as a French press or stovetop espresso machine .
Also on the coast, one other in style destination for guests to Oregon is Harris Beach State Park. The park is situated near Astoria, Oregon, and a couple of two-hour drive to and from Portland. The moody environment of the Oregon Coast comes out in full-force round here. Winters see massive waves and storms, and fog lingers by way of the hotter months, too — but that’s part of the allure. Camping is open year-round, and RV campgrounds at Fort Stevens State Park may be reserved for $34.
Set back from the shoreline beneath a weathered forest of shore pines, the campground is nicely shielded from the worst of nature’s fury. Well-constructed yurts present additional shelter choices for many who prefer more space and additional safety from gusting winds. Whatever your reason for visiting or wherever you’re from, there’s a bit of seaside together with your name on it. Saddle Mountain Campground is a small campground in a small park, however there are heaps of places to discover in this small pure area. Check our info under about some of the campgrounds on the Oregon coast.
Because dispersed camping is more popular than ever earlier than, it’s vitally essential to deal with our public lands with the utmost respect so they remain open and out there to all. A stretch of highway simply north of Gold Beach is another promising space for this sort of free tenting. I haven’t camped right here myself, however I did discover a quantity of pull-offs with out “No Camping” indicators filled with RVs and vans early in the morning the last time I drove down the coast. I personally keep away from this kind of “camping” as I often don’t feel very protected sleeping in my automobile alongside a busy highway.
“It was raining while we had been here but it’s a beautiful spot and if you’ve got an RV who cares in regards to the rain! I really just like the spots in course of the again that back as much as the timber and the Necanium River. They even have onsite laundry facilities and clean bathrooms/showers.” — The Dyrt camper Alicia F. Two campsites and one cabin are accessible to campers with disabilities. Nine yurts and one cabin have ramp entry however aren't ADA-compliant. Moderate in size, the campsites additionally supply a good quantity of privateness with plenty of shade and underbrush.
Tumblr media
Rachel Sandwick / FlickrCape Lookout State Park can be reached by traveling an hour and a half west of Portland through the scenic Wilson River cross. Along the greatest way stop and revel in waterfalls, scenic views, and some great fishing. Access to this well-liked state park and campground is on the east side of the freeway, just south of the southern entrance to the Otter Crest Loop and the Devil’s Punchbowl. Oregon state parks have a 9 month reserving window so it’s exhausting to get spots except you guide method in advance.

Day 29. Canmore, AB to Jasper, AB. 196 miles.
I head for Jasper today along the Icefield Parkway with the many others who have the same idea. I begin to dislike other people and pay a penance for this.
This is the coldest morning so far and I have all my layers on. I double wrap my bandana and my new gloves are in operation too.
I am ready for Banff when it comes along in 20 minutes and I stand in the welcome warmth of White Bark Cafe to order my yogurt, berries and granola with oatmeal muffin and coffee on the side.
Banff is a ski resort, out of season with cafes and lodges catering for hikers, mountain bikers and elderly wanderers like me.
The snowboarders get around on skateboards keeping up the balance skills they will need when the snow falls, not long if I go by the temperature of the day.
Seedy looking sparrows scrabble for scraps and a pair of dogs bark at my squeaking boots but it's fun watching the world go by.
Back on Highway 1 for a while before Highway 93. Traffic is busy, there are heavy trucks mixed with the RVs, SUVs and me, sandwiched between.
My hands are cold, my knees and feet are cold and I keep getting cut up by others.
The scenery promised is obscured by cloud and although I can sense the size and the depth of the range I can't see it.
Where there are sights to see they are settled upon by hundreds of other people. I am not used to sharing Canada in this way.
At Columbia Glacier the situation is dreadful. A car park full of hundreds of cars where people board 10s of coaches to take the only road to the glacier, a dirty bluish smear in the low cloud.
At Saskatchewan Crossing I stop at a pub. The food arrangements are unusual. There is a salad and soup bar where I help myself. If I want burger or steak I have to cook it for myself. The waiter and bar keeper have a mirthful chat whilst I struggle with bowls and plates to make my own meal.
I pay but something goes awry with the machine. The waiter tells me the transaction is void and walks away, throws the slips in the bin and comes back with another machine. I ask to confirm the previous transaction before I use the next machine. He says, 'I wish you had told me, now I am having to go through the garbage.' He returns with the crumpled slips. I pay and don't leave a tip for once. We are not friends and today I don't like people!
At least it's warmer when I come out and the day gets progressively warmer. My knees and hands have thawed out too. My feet are dead to me.
For some parts of the park access is restricted in the winter months so people use July and August and the National Parks are busy. There are people at every turn. I turn off into small picnic areas but always cars and tourists. I am an adventure traveller I tell myself, which is different. There are others like me on the road but their bikes and gear are clean, their panniers are metal and their grips are heated. I hate them and their heated grips.
At last, glimpses of blue sky and some modest scenery alongside the Athabasca River. I console myself that I return on the same road tomorrow and the weather promises to be better.
My choice of accommodation in Jasper is severely limited. I can't afford even a modest lodge or motel. I can afford a hostel. All the private rooms at the hostel are occupied. For my penance for hating the crowds I am in a 44 person dormitory with access to 4 showers for a £32 fee.
It does have a laundry and I will be clean for two more days.
Tomorrow I am out of here and on my way to Radium but tonight the hostel's convenient location to the skytram and the summit restaurant begins to redeem my poor choice.
The ride is quick and we climb the vertical kilometre quickly whilst John our conducter explains why most of the trees are red and dead. There is an infestation of pine beetle which is no longer controlled by cold winters.
The view is improving and at the top it's easier to see the scope of the mountains. The haze of smoke and clouds remains and takes the edge off it but the haze will result in a spectacular sunset.
Oh, and today I will have ridden my 5,000th mile at some point.

There are three campgrounds run by the National Park
Texas is more than a state; it's a state of mind. Texans are proud of their state (which used to be an independent nation) and there are lots of reasons why - Texas hospitality, Tex-Mex food, a great tradition of Texas music, and plenty of natural beauty. If you want to get out and see the country in your recreational vehicle, Texas has lots to offer.
East Texas has the best of the American south, with woodlands and lots of water. Further up in the Texas panhandle, everything is flat and green with endless blue skies. Out in western and southern Texas, the land becomes desert and you can camp right against the border. Texas is huge, and there are things to see in every corner.
Big Bend National Park, located in the far southwest corner of Texas, is known for its rugged beauty, and also for its isolation. This makes it a great spot for those who want to get away from it all. While most of the country has been divided up and tamed, Big Bend is still wilderness at its best.
You'll find a variety of natural wonders in Big Bend - from the Rio Grande River to the sky high mountain basins only an hour's drive away. The park also features desert, which is why it's like three parks in one.
There are three campgrounds run by the National Park where you can take a motor home. Between these three parks, you can find something to suit your needs. Make a reservation if you plan to head out there.
For more rugged camping in Big Bend, try the Basin Campground. The drive down can be dangerous for big rigs, so this site is recommended for smaller motor homes. Big rig parking can also be difficult here. Still, it's a great place if you want to really be deep in the wilderness.
Enchanted Rock is named after a giant rock that inspired fear in both Indians and settlers alike. The Indians of the area believed the huge rock was inhabited by ghosts, and early adventurers avoided exploration for years by because they believed it swallowed people.
Located mid-state near Fredericksburg, the Enchanted Rock sits right on the edge of the Big Sandy Creek. It is one of the biggest "batholiths" (giant underground rocks) that has been uncovered by erosion. Nowadays, the ghosts are all gone, and you can go hiking, climbing and backpacking on the rock. If you don't feel up to climbing it, there are plenty of hiking trails that surround the rock, where you can get a good view of it.
Unfortunately, you won't be staying in your motor home right at the edge of the rock. The camping close to the rock has no RV hookups and no sites big enough to pull in to. You're better staying in Fredericksburg. One Three-Phase AC Asynchronous Motor Company good spot in Fredericksburg is the Fredericksburg RV Park, a nice facility with all the conveniences you could want. It has 100 sites, Internet access, cable TV and pretty scenery. They take reservations
