Superstar Salman Khan on Monday said it is the heroism in South films that is drawing audiences to theatres, which is lacking in Hindi movies today. The 56-year-old star, known for massy entertainers like "Wanted" and "Dabangg" franchise, made the remarks while talking about the Pan-India culture in movies at The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) press conference here. "We both (South and Bollywood) believed in heroism in cinema. When you come out of theatres, you have a hero. But here, apart from one or two people, we are not making heroism films...

"Now, people have become cool and think this is cliched. With heroism the emotional connection has to be there, that is important. This format started with Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar and then it has been taken to the next level," Khan said during the media interaction.

Hailing the South film industry writers and directors for their writing and vision, the "Bharat" star said he hopes instead of South films being remade in Hindi, the trend is reversed. 

"There should be times when they should pick up our scripts. The writers over there are hard working. The directors also make concept films, which people see," Khan added.

The actor recently started shooting for the upcoming Telugu action film "Godfather", which is headlined by South superstar Chiranjeevi. It is directed by Mohan Raja and marks Khan's debut in the Telugu film industry. The actor, who has a crucial cameo in the film, said he liked the idea and hence came on board.

"It has been a very good experience working with him. I have known Chiru garu for the longest time, he is my friend and his son Ram Charan is also my friend and he has done good work in 'RRR'. It feels so good when these guys do well. I am very proud of him. But why does it happen that our films don't work there, their films work here?" he said. 

When asked whether he planned a full-fledged appearance in a South film, the actor replied, "They don't come to me with Telugu or Tamil, they come to me with Hindi movies." A Lasting Association Khan said he is happy to continue his association with the IIFA awards and is looking forward to entertaining the audience. The 22nd edition of IIFA Weekend and Awards, to be held on May 20 and 21 in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, will be hosted by Khan and Riteish Deshmukh. Speaking about performing on stage, Khan said, he is still energetic and rehearses before the final act. "You rehearse basically for stamina. The adrenaline rush gets you really excited and makes you feel tired quickly. There are times when I have got tired backstage, but then you go for it. "One has to respect the people who come to watch the show, so you have to give your best. If you don't give your best, no one will come to watch you next time," he added

A Host Needs To Be Sensitive When asked if a host should be careful with jokes, Khan said, "As a host, you have to be sensitive. Humour is above the belt and not below the belt." Actor Varun Dhawan and actor-host Maniesh Paul, who were present at the event, too shared similar views. "They get offended and one has to be careful," Dhawan said. Paul said they try to "draw the line" but sometimes things get sensitive. "Earlier, humour was 'khul ke' and now things have become sensitive... Whenever I have been on stage, I have not offended anyone. It all depends on your sense of humour," he said, adding, it is the duty of an artiste to check what the writers have written in the script.

Hindi Cinema’s most talented actor cum comedian Jagdeep passed away on Wednesday, following age-related health problems. He was 81. He will always be remembered for playing Soorma Bhopali in the cult film Sholay.

Jagdeep ( Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jaffrey) appeared in more than 400 films. He started as a child artist and went on to do films like Ab Dilli Door Nahin, Munna, Aar Paar, Do Bigah Zameen and more. Apart from performing versatile characters on screen, he also started looking at the films from the director’s chair. He also directed a film Soorma Bhopali ( inspired from his own character from Sholay) with him playing the protagonist.

From playing Salman Khan’s father in Andaz Apna Apna to working in Amitabh Bachchan’s Shahenshah , he has given a barret of hits. Celebrities from the film fraternity are weeping over the loss and praying for the year to be kinder and give no more sad news.Shatrughan Sinha tweeted, “Deepest condolences on the sad demise of veteran actor, comedian par excellence, iconic #Jagdeep. He was a great human being & very down to earth. I was not only his neighbour during my initial years but also bought my first car ‘Austin‘ from him. Deepest Condolences to the family, friends and millions of his fans (just like me).” Anil Kapoor who has worked with him, wrote, “Jagdeep Saab was one of the greatest actors of India…I was his huge fan & was lucky enough to have worked with him in Ek Baar Kaho & many more films…he was always extremely supportive & encouraging…sending my heartfelt condolences & prayers to my friend Javed & family…” We will always remember him as the epitome of talent and the laughter he has given us. His last appearance at IIFA 2019 for lifetime achievement will be imprinted in our hearts. Bollywood Movies Part CLXVI: Not Bollywood, that’s for sure

After her son Abhay Singh “Prince” Nimbalkar (Riteish Deshmukh) is murdered, Sumitra Devi (Tanvi Azmi) travels to Pandharpur to enlist the help of his twin Mauli (also Riteish Deshmukh). However, Mauli has his reservations due to being abandoned as a baby at the shrine of Vitthala.

Lai Bhaari was a pretty good all around entertainer. Some of the fight scenes dragged on and were boring, but the rest was good. I also liked how the movie turned some tropes on their head, and how one of the villains was unexpected until their reveal. All of the performances were good, but I especially enjoyed Sharad Kelkar as the villainous Sangram Singh and Radhika Apte as Mauli’s girlfriend Kavita. Favorite songs are Jeev Bhulala and Aala Holicha Sar Lai Bhaari. Neither song has subtitles.

Balu (Fahadh Faasil) helps colleague Isha (Radhika Apte) out of her funk and the two fall in love and get married. Some time later, they are separated and Isha has filed for divorce. Balu reflects on their marriage and  wonders what went wrong. 

Haram tries to have a comprehensible story, but it never quite succeeds. The movie is quite disjointed and we are left as confused as Balu as to why Isha has left him. I found the subplot involving body double Ameena (Rajshri Deshpande) to be quite interesting, but it only takes up part of the movie. Even with the poor story, Fahadh Faasil and Radhika Apte do admirable jobs in their roles. Favorite songs are Nyangalke Lokam Sontham, Theevandi, and Theeyayi. None of the songs have subtitles.

Sex enthusiast Mandar (Gulshan Devaiah) decides to settle down. He meets Tripti (Radhika Apte) and initially tells her he is a virgin. As he tries to figure out how to tell her the truth, he revisits his sexual awakening as a boy and past affairs.

Hunterr could have been an acceptable film, but it is nearly unwatchable. The flashbacks and flashforwards are extremely disorienting, making it hard to follow the timeline of events in the movie. Additionally, the film has a propensity to treat most of the women as sex objects, rather than people. While Tripti and Mandar’s relationship is cute, it is not enough to make the movie worthwhile. Radhika Apte was excellent as Tripti. Favorite songs are Chori Chori and Bachpan. Neither song has subtitles.

KRK says he lost 10 kgs because he "was surviving with only water for 10 days" in jail

Sep 13, 2022 12:25 IST Mumbai (Maharashtra) , September 13 (AF): Kamaal R Khan is finally out of jail, and after coming out, as expected, he informed that he lost 10 kilos during his 10-day long stay at the jail because he didn't consume anything but water! In a tweet he wrote, "I was surviving with only water for 10 days in lockup. So I have lost 10 kg weight."

In earlier tweets, he thanked Bollywood veteran Shatrughan Sinha without specifying any reason. He wrote, "Thank you very much @ShatruganSinha Ji for your support. Love you." On September 11, he revealed that he is back home after being in judicial custody for ten days. He wrote, "I am back and safe at my home. I don't need any revenge from anyone. I have forgotten whatever bad thing happened with me. I believe, it was written in my destiny."

Last week, his son took to his Twitter account and posted a request directed to actors Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He claimed that Kamaal R Khan's life is in danger and that he needs to be out of prison because of the harsh treatment being meted out to him. He wrote, "I am KRK' son Faisal Kamaal. Some people are torturing to kill my father in Mumbai. I am just 23years old living in London. I don't know how to help my father. I request @juniorbachchan @Riteishd and @Dev_Fadnavis ji to save my father's life. Me n my sister will die without him."

KRK was arrested as soon as he landed in Mumbai from Dubai on August 30. According to the police, KRK was arrested over FIR against his controversial social media posts back in 2020. The FIR was lodged on the basis of a complaint by Yuva Sena leader Rahul Kanal on April 30, 2020, where he alleged that KRK's tweets on the late Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor allegedly spread "hatred". Rahul had said in the FIR that a person named Kamal R Khan regularly spreads hatred on social media. "He came into Bollywood with a movie named 'Deshdrohi' and is really acting like one. Even when the world is going through a pandemic, I can't understand his inhumane behaviour and spreading hatred in all spheres of life." The complainant said KRK was making hateful comments against late actors Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor. "After Irrfan Khan, who is India's pride, passed away, he was making poor claims and statements on him. He was also talking crap about senior actor late Rishi Kapoor also," he said in the complaint. He also said that KRK is not in the country and requested PM Modi to file a case against him. The same day he was sent into 14-day judicial custody. On September 5, KRK was arrested by Versova Police for allegedly demanding sexual favours from an actress and holding the complainant's hand in the first week of January 2019.
