Rio Del Valle Hackford (June 28, 1970 – April 14, 2022)  Film and television actor known for playing the recurring role of Toby in the American drama television series Treme.

In his television career, Hackford guest-starred in series including When Nature Calls with Helen Mirren, American Crime Story, Togetherness, Memphis Beat, Underground and True Detective. He played the recurring role of Toby in the drama television series Treme. Hackford also was the portrayer of IG-11, in which the character was voiced by Taika Waititi. His last credit was from the biographical drama miniseries Pam & Tommy, where he played the role of a manager.  (Wikipedia)

Stay Alive (2006)

It’s funny how a March release makes sense for this movie. I actually like it a lot, as stupid as it may be. It’s one that I saw around the time of its release, and I have weird nostalgic feelings for it (the movie, not the timeframe, yikes.) It’s Disney’s only slasher movie, apparently, so that’s cool. It’s about a group of people who play a ‘test’ video game after their video game testing friend is murdered, because it “must be super cool and top secret if he was testing it.” Anyway, it’s a video game about Elizabeth Bathory, who is considered in real life to be the female Dracula, because of the stories of what she did to young girls to preserve her youth (please google her) and in the game, that they definitely show them playing in first person, if you die, you actually die. Freddy Krueger for video game nerds. The only thing that sucks is that, to continue the movie along, they break those rules and say “the game keeps playing after you pause it” so people get to die without their character dying. It’s lame in that regard, but I thought it was entertaining overall.

Rating: C. Frankie Muniz’s character doesn’t die, although he should.

Helen Mirren 'Heartbroken' By Death Of Stepson Rio Hackford At The Age Of 51

Helen Mirren has said she is “heartbroken” following the death of her stepson, actor Rio Hackford, at the age of 51.

The Oscar-winning star and her film director husband Taylor Hackford released a joint statement announcing that Rio had died of uveal melanoma, which they explained is a very aggressive and rare form of cancer.

The couple, who have been married since 1997, said they “are both inspired by the life of our son and stepson, Rio Hackford, and heartbroken by his loss” in their statement, which was shared with People magazine. 

“His life showed us how to live in generosity and community,” they said. “He shared his life’s journey with so many who now mourn him, and at the same time, celebrate their fortune in knowing him.”

Helen and Taylor added: “We would beg everyone reading this to get their eyes tested at least once a year, which might save their loved ones from this cancer.”

Rio’s brother Alex told Variety that Rio died on Thursday in Huntington Beach, California.

The actor was known for his roles in shows such as The Mandalorian, Treme and American Crime Story.

He is survived by by his wife, musician Libby Grace and their two children, his brother Alex and his father and stepmother.
