holy. fucking. shit. had to spend 3-ish hours trying to get into my apartment after locking myself out like a dumbass! SO--

I got home at around 5:30 pm and only then realized that I'd forgotten my jacket and home key at work on the other side of town. I really wasn’t feeling assed to walk or bike back over there though, and the groundskeeper (whoever has keys to all the apartments) wasn’t available bc it was after hours at the company responsible for this house (riksbyggen).

so the reception lady at riksbyggen called securitas for me so that THEY could come unlock my door, and after waiting a while, a guy arrived-- and it turns out he didn’t have the right key, and not even with the help of three other colleagues could they get ahold of the right one. I called one of the neighbors who’s the current head of the housing society, and she said that riksbyggen should have the key. nevertheless, securitas couldn’t get ahold of one because again, everyone’s gone home at this point pm, so the guy offered to drive me over to my workplace so I could try to get in and get my stupid jacket and key...

we got there and like I had feared, my key card wouldn’t work (because aFteR HoUrS), so I tried to call my supervisor at work to ask her if she knew the code to the door, but she wouldn’t pick up, so I broke down a little bit as the securitas guy drove me back home, cause holy sHIT was it all mortifying as all hell, because the guy had been assigned to try to fix this for like one and a half hours at that point, and he was running late to other appointments he was supposed to be at, and I really REALLY just wanted to get into the damn apartment

securitas guy had to leave eventually, but said he’d ask his colleagues if they could find the key and he’d call me if they did. meanwhile, I called the housing society neighbor back to ask if she had the number to anyone of the ppl at riksbyggen who had access to the keys. she gave me a name and said I could write to her on messenger, which I did. if all else failed, my neighbor said I could sleep over at her place for the night

as I was waiting for the lady from riksbyggen or the securitas people to get back to me, I picked apart one of the keychain rings I had, bent it a little, and tried to lock pick my apartment door, lmfao the metal was too thick though, so I rang the next-door neighbors’ doorbell, only they’re renting out their place to three men who are here for almedalsveckan. anyway, I asked them if they had a paperclip or something I could try to lock pick my door with, and one of them seemed to be in the know about such things, cause he told me that those types of locks aren’t able to be lock picked...

so I just sat down in the stairwell and waited, cried about it, tore open my bag of chips and rummaged through my backpack for ANY sign of my keys (I didn’t find them). I then tried to calm myself down a bit... tried some LOA stuff and just told myself I was going to be let in today (and that the securitas fee wouldn’t be too hefty....... we shall see). felt a bit calmer after that, so I started reading a random book I borrowed months ago while I waited and ate my chips

eventually, the three guys renting the next door apartment came out, cause they were heading down on the town. we talked a bit about it, they felt bad for me. then, one of them asked if I wanted a non-alcoholic beer because it was the least they could offer, so I was like “yeah sure lol”, so they gave me a bottle and wished me luck before they had to leave

finally, the lady from riksbyggen got back to me and said that she would come by later and we’d try to fix this. I was like please please pleASE let this work. wrote to the neighbor lady and said that riksbyggen lady was coming by and asking if I could wait at their place until she got here, and the neighbor wasn’t home yet, but she said I could hang out at their lot in the backyard if I wanted, so I went over there and just hung out for a few minutes, taking swigs from the previously mentioned beer bottle, when suddenly!-- riksbyggen lady arrived, so I went back into the house so we could try her key and see if it fit our door...... and holy fuck- it DID!!!!

i am now finally inside my home and I would definitely rather have spent the afternoon differently, but the whole ordeal’s already started to sound pretty comedic to me, so I'll be fine, lmao. god-- SO grateful to all the people who tried (and succeeded) to help me or just tried to cheer me up..... I could kiss you all 🙏🏻😭❤️

In response to a commission from Riksbyggen, Bigert & Bergström have created a sculptural chamber in the form of an egg-shaped sauna that has just been installed at Luossabacken in Kiruna, Sweden’s northernmost town.

New virtual study tour showcasing innovative and energy efficient buildings in Gothenburg

The number of international delegations visiting reference objects and test beds has decreased significantly due to COVID-19. That is why Green Gothenburg is now inviting its travel banned visitors to a virtual tour of three award-winning buildings, where innovative and energy saving solutions are demonstrated.

“For Gothenburg, COVID-19 has been a serious setback. Visits from international delegations studying sustainable solutions have virtually ceased altogether. However, we are now happy to be able to present a virtual study tour showcasing some of the most interesting sustainable building projects here in Gothenburg as a substitute, and later complement, for a real-life visit”, says Katarina Clase,  business developer at Business Region Göteborg.

A co-creative social space for experimenting

HSB Living Lab, a habitation infrastructure for students and guest researchers, is one of the testbeds showcased in the virtual tour. It is a co-creative social space for experimenting with sustainable technology and lifestyles in order to develop innovative concepts and solutions. The lab consists of 44 cubic modules with 29 apartments.

“HSB Living Lab has been developed through open-innovation processes between the Swedish housing association HSB, Chalmers University of Technology, Johanneberg Science Park and several industry partners. So far, more than 100 projects have been carried out in the lab”, continues Katarina Clase.

“Visiting HSB Living Lab is like travelling a decade forward in time. Solar cells are integrated in the walls, windows that absorb and store the sunlight as thermal energy are being tested, and there is a plethora of smart home interactions that makes living easier, to name but a few of the spectacular solutions.”

A lab for future learning environments

Nearby A Working Lab is an office building with 430 workplaces, in a flexible space, dedicated to collaboration and innovation. The foundation is made of environmentally friendly concrete and the building’s district heating system is supplied with thermal energy from the local 1000 square meter solar plant.

“The climate impact has been reduced with smart materials and salt storage of thermal energy is used for efficient indoor temperature control. The lab also contains a restaurant, café, co-working areas and conference and meeting rooms.”

Winner of the Environmental Building of the Year 2019

The housing association Riksbyggen Brf Viva is the first practical application of the insights from Riksbyggen Positive Footprint Housing, an interdisciplinary project looking into how to build environmentally, socially and economically sustainable neighbourhoods. The houses are designed to function as plus energy units thanks to well-insulated frames and energy storage in used bus batteries.

“The physical environment is designed to encourage spontaneous meetings and convey a sense of community. The building was voted the Environmental Building of the Year at the Swedish Green Building Awards 2019”, says Katarina Clase.
