I never got into Harry Potter, but I have a lot more respect for someone who can say āthese books were an important part of my life, but I recognize the pain and harm that comes from supporting them, so Iām making an effort to stop engaging with themā versus someone whoās like ālol the books were always bad, I donāt have to worry about boycotting them because I have Good Taste.ā
Like, if you think you never have to think critically about the things you like because you only engage with āGood Art,ā then thatās awfully convenient
#this not just limited to hp btw#itās just the most common example#and itās one I know where I donāt have personal bias bc I never got into it myself#like the fact that I was more into Rick Riordan than hp does not make me morally superior#I didnāt āalways knowā jkr was shitty ā I just liked mythology over wizards#Rick could have turned out just like jkr and then where would that leave me?#id like to think Iād be able to cut his works out of my life

*Tackle hugs* WHAT UP, Im here for the marine life asks-Orca, Narwhal, Seahorse! (the names are so cute hdbdj SEAHORSES ARE CUTE)
YAY HIAs there is no attached OC Iām gonna guess these are for me ;) and right!? Ocean Creature names are the cutest-- THEREāS A CREATURE CALLED A CUDDLEFISH AND ITāS SO CUTE
ORCA: Are you an easy-to-scare person? what scares you the most?Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā I am, in fact, incredibly easy to scare, depending on how you define scare. My dad and my best friend have both full on made me jump five feet in the air with a real, guttural scream but only twice total, my dad startles me constantly because even though heās a heavy dude you canāt hear his footsteps, and I have been creeped out by my Halloween decorations on more than one occasion due to when Iād have to wake up for school (we have some creepy decorations, ok? Iāll show pics some time xD)Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā What scares me the most? Mmm probably the feeling of eyes on my back and whatever lurks in the dark. I love the dark and whateverās inside it a lot but I need to have as many lights on as possible if Iām by myself and hate being outside at 3am when CiCi decidesĀ āyeah, this is the optimal time to peeā because it just doesnāt feel safe, yāknow? Itās creepy. Ironically even when I was literally scared of the dark as a kid and needed a nightlight, I could handle passing dark rooms. Now I have to run past the openings as quick as possible, but donāt mind sleeping in the dark xD
Narwhal: what is your favorite literary genre? why?Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Fantasy, hands down!Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā I just adore the worlds that get created and supernatural, not-horror-related, stories are my absolute bread and butter! It just makes stories fun and interesting-- especially detective stories because you donāt know if it was a vampireās doing or some serial killer trying to frame vampires and itās just. Itās nice. Plus, sometimes you get free reign over a lot more than you would a real life/modern setting.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Thereās probably a lot more I could say, but itās actually really hard for me to find the words? Thereās just something about a fantasy story, be it magic, soulmates, supernatural, or a completely new world entirely that I really enjoy seeing in my head and reading along with.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Funnily enough, I am not that huge a fan of the āclassicsā (I say classics because they seem to be the top fantasy authors people think of nowadays) like Tolkien and JKRās works. Movies? Sure, Iāll watchĀ āem. Books? Tried them, didnāt like them. Rick Riordan on the other hand? LOVE THE BOOKS SO MUCH and Iām sad I donāt have more of them.
(this last bit is pretty long, so itās going underĀ ākeep readingā)
Seahorse: which is your favorite memory ever?Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Aw man, this oneās hard. I have a lot of good memories, and my favorite memory tends to switch depending on which memories come to mind at the time. And I know thereās a really special one hidden somewhere in my brain that trumps all of them, because I remember thinking at the time that it was the best moment of my life, but Iām almost constantly unable to recall what it was.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā So instead, off the top of my head, my favorite memory might be when my dad, our dog CoCo, and I went on one of our first summer road trips. I was either 8 or 9 at the time (actually, probably a bit older because my dad finally decided to take my door off the jeep as well, so I was probably closer to 11/12), and we were on the way to Yellowstone. We stopped at plenty of cool places along the way; Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial (at the time it was practically just his head), that one place with all the Red Rocks in Utah, this little shop run by native americans who had GORGEOUS wares-- I got some hair clippies and a bookmark, and we talked with them for about an hour, at least! I think dad got something too but I canāt remember what.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Anyway, while most of the places we went to allowed pets, there were some places that didnāt-- like restaurants. What weād do in these scenarios is park as close as we could to the place, and then ask for a window seat where Dad could keep an eye on the car and CoCo.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Something you should know about CoCo: She was a pretty laid back dachshund who adored car rides and sun bathing about 3000x more than she enjoyed food. She didnāt mind us leaving the car, didnāt try to follow us (though she did always try to keep us in sight for as long as possible), and the second we left sheād claim one of our seats for herself and just relax.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā BUT sheād also protect the car, which, in the summer, was basically just the skeleton (or in its swimsuit, I suppose): no doors and no roof except a bikini top.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā So weāre sitting in the restaurant, right? Waiting for our food, the car directly across from us next to the sidewalk (weāre also pretty close to the door). CoCoās lazing in my seat, the picture of perfect, sunbathing bliss with a huge grin on her face. And sheās a small dog, so you wouldnāt really expect her to be scary in anyway-- maybe sheād even look old to you at the time, because Dapples were rare at the time, some of her light brown was already turning grey, and she had mange that refused to go away so she had some bald spots.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā And thereās this teen boy and either his parents or a friend (I donāt remember which) walking by; and for whatever reason, this kid had either forgotten or never been taught the number one rule: Do Not Touch the dog unless the owner says itās ok.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā We can see it in his eyes/body language as theyāre getting closer to the car. Dad and I are both quietly betting on whatās going to happen (I swear we were like Golf Commentators/Announcers) and also getting ready to run out if needed. Even CoCo can see what this dude is thinking, which isĀ āI want to pet the dogāĀ Ā Ā Ā Ā He slows down as he gets to the car, doesnāt even look around to see if the owners are nearby, and CoCoās followed him with her eyes since these guys got close enough, but hasnāt actually moved. Sheās still lounging on the seat, panting and content, looking for all the world like sheās totally okay with all of this.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā He reaches out to pet her when BAM! CoCo leaps to her feet, barking up a storm and startling the guy so much he almost trips; Dad and I burst into laughter. The dudeās friend/parents say something to him I think, maybe anĀ āI told you soā, idk, and heās walking away trying to act all casual. CoCo finishes barking once theyāre a slab of sidewalk or two away from the jeep, wags her tail happily, and then just flops back down like none of the interaction happened.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Looking back on it I kinda feel a little bad for the dude (i think he was pretty embarrassed) but it was one of the most hilarious things to ever happen to me, so itās definitely a fav.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā A very close second is when we woke up freezing in our tent because CoCo literally stole all the blankets/sheets and made herself the eye of a blanket hurricane, and another situation tied for very close second happened a few months after this trip: CoCo apparently didnāt think we were coming to the door fast enough so she howled to get our attention even though I was right there. Literally howled. The Yellowstone wolves mustāve taught her that! The entire house froze when she did it, too xD (Mom and dad, from different places in the house after a minute of pure silence:Ā āWhat the heck was that?!ā)Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā CoCo had never looked more proud.
#ask mo and co.#story time!#the tales of coco cochran#if i actually share enough stories to make that a legit tag#I'm gonna be proud of myself#thanks for the ask!!#now onto the ones for the boys >:3
