How my father’s death changed my life – Omotola Jalade Says
Hers is a relentless fighting spirit. Despite having experienced many personal tragedies early in life, screen goddess, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, who is currently celebrating 25 years in the entertainment industry, is today one of the most celebrated actors in the globe. In 2013, Time magazine named the multiple award- winning actress one of the 100 most influential people in the globe, sharing that space with global icons such as Michele Obama, Beyonce and Kate Middleton.
But wait for this. The sexy actress was inspired not just to take acting as a career but also to achieve greatness because of a personal tragedy she had suffered. She lost her dad to whom she was very close in a road accident while still a student of Command Secondary School Kaduna. She said in an exclusive interview with TheNEWS that she has yet to recover from that loss.
“I still remember very vividly how I was picked up from school, the trauma of not being told what had happened, how I was put on a plane, Nigerian Airways then, back to Lagos and all the time wondering . I knew at that young age that something was wrong. But nobody was talking to me. So I didn’t know who or what. I remember thinking very clearly that the person that kept coming into my head was God, let it not be my dad, let it not be my dad.
“Because I was very, very close to him. Like I said, I was an only child for like seven years or so. And I was the only daughter. So he and I were very exceptionally close. And behold I got home it was my dad – the trauma of walking into my house with a lot of people there. It affected me in more ways than I can explain. Even till today there are many decisions and many things that I have noticed about myself that resulted from that singular trauma that I went through in life
“So that was the most significant turn of events that has changed my entire life. I lost my mother as well, which was another traumatic experience, but not as traumatic as my dad’s.
However Omotola’s loss also became her gain. Rather than condescend to that tragedy, she braced up and took acting as a career at the young age of 15 because she was the bread winner of her family, being the eldest child. Two years later, when she was barely 17, she starred in Mortal Inheitance , the movie via which she shot into limelight in 1995.
“The biggest motivating factor was the loss of my father. I was very close to my dad. And you know life was very good. We were not the richest people in the country but we were doing at least above average.
“We were a small family. I was the only child for a very long time. And then my junior brother came along. My dad was doing very well. He was very industrious. He had a good job. He was moving with the high and mighty, presidents and stuff like that. I mean life was good, you know what I mean; and at a very young age of 12 to have all of that crashing on your head in a very, very traumatic way,” she said.

Six richest Nigerian kid-celebrities, net worth
As kids, we all fantasized about growing up and becoming rich and famous. Talent surely has no age barrier as long as you are willing to showcase such talent to the world. Such was the case of these 6 Nigerian children-celebrities who have created a niche for themselves in the entertainment industry. At a very tender age, these ones make impressive amounts through talents and fame that they have built over time. 1) Emmanuella Emmanuella Samuel, born July 22, 2010, is popularly known as Emmanuella. She is a YouTube child Comedian on Mark Angel YouTube channel. In 2017, Mark Angel Comedy YouTube channel became the first-ever Nigerian-owned YouTube channel to hit a million subscribers. Emmanuella started comedy when she was only five years old. She was on a family holiday and met with Mark Angel. He needed some kids for his comedy shoot, and called a few children he knew for the audition but they couldn’t memorize their lines. He then turned to Emmanuella and she excelled despite the eighteen-hour-long video shoot, a stunt he pulled to test the endurance of the kids. After her selection, Mark Angel had to convince her parents to let her become a part of the Mark Angel Comedy team and got their approval. Her fame started after the comedy skit “This is Not My Real Face Oh” in which she was making jokes about a teacher to her fellow student without knowing the student was the child of the teacher. This short skit was featured on CNN’s Facebook page. Five positives of #BBNaija
No reality show on television has received wide condemnations and criticisms like the Big Brother Naija reality show. Many are even calling for its total scrap. Many parents have forbidden their children from watching the show “as long as you are in my house” Sexual immorality remains the major reason why people ask the federal government to remove the shock from television screens. Founder of Mount Zion Ministries, Evangelist Mike Bamiloye slammed the show for its explicit contents in 2017. He reacted shortly after Efe Ejeba walked away with the N25 million grand prize. Bamiloye said: “”They kissed, they romanced, before the cameras of Africa, and they were honoured and glorified. “At times, the glory of this world makes the children of the kingdom look stupid. I hope some Kingdom children will not begin to envy this type of worldly glories “What does this teach our youths now? Glamourizing and glorifying immorality before the cameras of the world can fetch you millions and make you a celebrity overnight? “I hope some pastors will not begin to make reference to this as a work of God’s grace.” Politician, Segun Adekoya, also called for its ban in 2017, saying that Nigeria, despite her development, remained a conservative society and as such, allowing “immoral” shows like the ‘Big Brother Naija’ to be broadcast on television could corrupt the minds of the younger generation, especially teenagers. But there are positives from the show, including: It remains the “realest” and richest reality show on television. Unlike other reality shows where contestants rehearse how to live their lives, the Big Brother Naija show is one where Housemates come as they are and live in the open. There are many cameras to capture every moment and every housemate, so there is no place to hide for anyone. Again, the stakes get higher every year the show is hosted. From the winner getting N25 million in 2017 to walking away with N45 million in 2018 and N60 million up for grabs for the winner in 2019, no show on television beats the Big Brother Naija show financially. This is apart from other juicy prizes housemates will walk away with from winning tasks and challenges, during the course of the show. It has produced successful friendships and marriages: In 2014, Nigerian Kelvin Chuwang-Pam got married to Tanzanian, Elizabeth Gupta. They have a child. They met in 2009 as Housemates of the then “Big Brother Africa”. In 2017, Olurishe Deborah Ebun (Debbie-Rise) and Bassey Ekpeyong met in the Big Brother House. Though they are not married, they remain close friends till date. On September 7, 2019 Tope Adenibuyan, also known as Teddy A and Bamike Olawunmi, popularly called BamBam, had their introduction. The world waits for their white wedding. They officially got engaged on August 4, 2019. They met in the Big Brother House in 2018. Every participant of the reality show is an instant celebrity. It is always a thing of pride for one to feature in the Big Brother Naija reality show. That explains why millions of youths scrabble to get into the House during the auditions. It is a show of “everyone is a winner”. New cultures and exciting things are learnt in the show: One major aspect of the Big Brother Naija show is the Thursday night presentation show. Here, Big Brother brings a task for the Housemates, asking them to showcase the cultures and lifestyles of various cultures of Nigeria and other parts of Africa. This is an avenue for viewers to learn one or two things they never knew from other cultures of the world. Economic contributions. Though it is focused primarily on entertainment, it has an effect on other industries with significant impact on Nigeria’s GDP, which is currently worth $397.472 billion. Again, MultiChoice has always insisted on an all-Nigerian production crew, which means jobs will be created for Nigerians, courtesy, Big Brother Naija. With foreign cameramen, and DJs, artists and journalists flown in to the country to perform and cover the event especially the eviction weekend, Nigerian hotels would be smiling to the banks. Linda Ikeji: The Most Wack And the Richest Blogger In Africa
Linda Ikeji is the richest and the most Wack Blogger in Africa
LINDA IFEOMA IKEJI BIOGRAPHY
Linda Ikeji with her Siblings With the advent of social media, several lives have been changed and many have a fortune just from a computer and a connection to the Internet. Linda Ikeji is one of such persons who has benefited enormously from the world wide web and the internet. Before we delve into our subject matter of the day, it's worthwhile for us to give our precious IB readers some basic info about Linda Ikeji. Linda Ikeji was born on September 19, 1980, she is the second child of 7 children. She hails from Nkwerre, in South Eastern Nigeria, Imo State precisely. She has a Bachelor’s degree in the English language from LASU (Lagos State University). Recommended: Wiz Kid: Music, Lifestyle and Cults Early Days… Based on info found online, Linda Ikeji supposedly developed a passion for writing when she was 10 years old. She used to write short stories which were commended by her family and friends. She was equally very interested in newscasters, watching news and interviews. Coming from a very humble home and going to the university, she had to support herself by ushering at occasions, bar-tending, and modelling. She did so many part-time jobs to support herself through school. As a model, she worked for several modelling agencies including 'House of Sharon', a fashion house owned by Folorunsho Alakija, the richest black woman in Africa. Upon her graduation in 2004, she tried to run a modelling agency known as 'Black Dove Communications'; hiring, managing and leasing models to brands. It was a failed venture and in 2006, her blogging career began! Linda Ikeji as a Blogger A blog is a platform on which a writer or group of writers share their views on certain subjects with their audiences. Bloggers are creators of contents, they update a blog with content regularly to entertain, educate and to inform their readers. In the blogosphere of Africa, Linda Ikeji is the most successful blogger in terms of money and exposure, but in terms of content; she's zero! 80% of her contents are pictures of celebrities with 20-50 words captions. 10% are plagiarised and the remaining 10% do not meet standards of 300 unique words. She has been the centre of attention - a topic of discussion on so many Nigerian blogs over the years. Most of the blogs only complain about her plagiarism and lack of respect for her colleagues by just copying and pasting their hard work without giving them any credits. Her blog was shut down by Google On the 8th of October, 2014. According to the write-ups on so many blogs, the shut down was as a result of piracy and plagiarism.
How then did she become the richest and the most popular blogger in Africa? Nigerians consume anything, they do not care whether it's made in Aba or in China. Nigerians love to gossip. Linda Ikeji started as a gossip blog, thereby offering Nigerians just want they want. Back in 2006 when she got into blogging, not too many blogs existed in Nigeria as it's the case today! Linda Ikeji is one of the first Nigerians to venture into Gossip blogging. She preyed into the privacy of top celebrities, taking advantage of people who confided in her; exposing secrets to generate traffic on her blog. The more the traffic and views of a blog, the more money the blogger makes. Linda Ikeji made her money from Google Adsense and from local businesses who placed adverts on her blog. Linda Ikeji Blog's 2018 Alexa Ranking Many people said Linda Ikeji will beat Google on Alexa ranking when her blog was ranked the 13th among top websites in Nigeria by Alexa in 2017.
Picture credit to techcabal As seen on the above picture, Linda Ikeji's blog was ranked globally as the 1936th website and in Nigeria as the 13th. Let's examine her 2018 ranking.
Recommended: Davido: Lifestyle, Music and involvement in The Illuminati As seen above, there's a massive decline in both her global ranking and as well her national ranking. She made her name when many Nigerians knew little or nothing about blogging and social media. Today it's different! Many Nigerians have become vest and knowledgeable about the usage of social media. They follow celebrities directly on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Snapchat. This implies that only a few Nigerians who are still left in the dark visit Linda Ikeji's Blog to view pictures of celebrities and read her 50 words caption. Most Nigerians have evolved, they go directly to the Celebs' pages to view the same things Linda Ikeji offers them. LINDA IKEJI 'S ACCOLADES In 2012, Linda Ikeji was featured in Forbes magazine as one of the most powerful women in Africa. In 2014 her blog won blog of the year at the Nigerian Blog awards. In the same year, she was honoured with media broad award. She is among the most Google-searched celebrity in Nigeria, an internet sensation. She is the richest blogger in Africa. LINDA IKEJE ' S PHILANTHROPIC MOVES It's written in the Holy Book, "Love covers a multitude of sins"! Her philanthropic works and love for humanity overshadow her plagiarism and piracy. It has been reported that she engages in a lot of humanitarian activities. According to Linda Ikeji herself, it derives a lot of joy and fulfilment by helping and giving back to society. The most notable of her humanitarian initiatives is the “No Thanks, I’ll rather be self-made” initiative. The initiative is aimed at empowering the vulnerable women of the society by building up their self-esteem to believe they can be their own bosses, rather than to rely and depend completely on men. The initiative has shaped women between the ages of 18 and 26 to engage into entrepreneurship. She donated the sum of 10 million Naira to help fund women with great business ideas but lack the funds to start their business. SETBACKS FACED
Recommended: Every man needs a woman like Mary Njoku It will be unfair to paint the journey of Linda Ikeji as being all rosy with no thorns, she has definitely faced some stiff challenges. She's from a humble background, struggled as a vendor, a model and even faced greater challenges as a blogger. Her fame and traffic on her blog didn't just happen overnight. She's been persistent and consistent. She’s had to deal with a lot of censorship and restrictions, her blog was shut down by Google on the 8th of October 2014, though it was restored on the 10th, the restrictions were still kept in place. She's been involved in several media wars with celebrities like Wizkid, Olamide, Richard Mofe Damijo and many others. "BABY MAMA" CONTROVERSY
Linda Ikeji Baby Daddy On September 17, 2018, in the US - two days to her birthday, Linda Ikeji welcomed a son, Jayce. She posted on Instagram the next day: "Meet my son Jayce! And yes, Sholaye Jerimi is his dad. Unfortunately, he and I are a completely closed chapter." Since the birth of her son, she has been on the fingers of Internet users. Social media took upon her as a "baby mama", something it is claimed she has always condemned. It is claimed she has always criticized single mothers in the past. However, she claims she has never condemned single mothers. Responding to a tweet from one of her followers who said: "I know you have never bashed single mothers or baby mamas..." She replied "Never ever have I done that. Completely made up." While presenting the pictures of her son on social media, she exposed the reasons she ended her relationship with her baby's father, Sholaye Jerimi whom she met in 2015. Read more of it in "The problem with Aunty Linda's epistle" by Sinem Bilen-Onabanjo. The Linda Ikeji story is a testimony to the fact that stickability (The ability to consistently stick to doing one thing until it pays off) is an essential part of the success equation. In a world afflicted with wars, natural disasters, diseases, and widening inequalities; neither can the call for men and women with a large heart too loud nor their supply too surplus to requirement. If anything, they can only be inadequate.
We all know that Nigeria’s North-east has been ravaged by war of terror hatched by the lawless group called Boko Haram, fighting with impunity for a theocratic or what may be called an Islamic state.
Among other atrocities committed by the ISIS backed group, schools in their numbers have been destroyed. Girl-child in their hundreds have been abducted from their various schools many of whom were married off as child-brides, sexually abused and impregnated, murdered, and brainwashed as suicide bombers.
The lucky ones were either ransomed with undisclosed sums of money or swapped with Boko Haram prisoners in the custody of the Nigerian government.
Even as we speak Leah Sharibu, one of the last set of girls to be abducted by the terror group is still being held purportedly on the ground that she refused to deny her Christian faith. No one can tell for sure if she’s still alive.
Women have been raped, tortured, and killed right before their husbands and children; and men likewise.
Proportionately, Mosques and Churches have been razed and worshippers killed. Farmers have been displaced from their farms. Artisans callously killed.
Indeed, victims of their dastardly acts cut across the boundaries of the two dominant religions in Nigeria and across all ethnic nationalities.
In conclusion, it would be an economical truth to say social and economic activities have nearly halted in that region, especially in Bornu State.
The entire landscape of the country’s north is today littered with IDP’s camps teeming with unschooled, unclothed, unshod, diseased and malnourished children and mothers, jobless able-bodied men and women and traumatized directly or indirectly drawn from the activities of the insurgents or their fleeing members who have mutated into other criminal activities for survival.
Profile image: Otedola in all-white attire at the ball.
So much that an urgent intervention is needed to arrest the situation and bring succor to the sick, stressed, distressed, and a helping hand to weak.
In a clear response to the urgent call to affect these ones and other lives and show the milk of human kindness Nigeria business mogul, Femi Otedola doled out what’s arguably the single largest donation in the history of philanthropy in the country. He gave out N5billion for the North-east intervention.
This he did through his daughter at a ball organized by the Cuppy Foundation. The Cuppy Foundation is a Non-for-profit organization founded by Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola popularly known as DJ Cuppy.
The well-attended event took place at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja on the 10th of November, 1999. In attendance were the Vice president Yemi Osinbajo, Aliko Dangote, Lagos State Governor Babajide San-Olu and his Ogun State counterpart, Dapo Abiodun to mention a few.
Specifically, the donation was made to the Save The Children charity which a 100-year-old United Kingdom-based charity.
It might interest you to know that the charity organization is the biggest children-focused organization after UNICEF.
Its focus is to improve the lives of children through better education, health care, and economic opportunities as well as providing emergency aid in natural disasters, war, and other conflicts.
Of course, the donor’s daughter who’s also the facilitator is a Board Ambassador for the Save The Children and a Member of the organization’s Africa Advisory Board.
While Otedola may not be the richest man in Nigeria, he has, however, demonstrated so far an uncommon commitment to philanthropy, helping the underprivileged.
He rubbed shoulders with some of the towering names in this regard. To be sure, names like Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, Odoole Odua of Yoruba land, Chief Adebutu Kessington readily comes to mind; not forgetting also late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola. There are numerous others too whom space will not permit their roll call.
Permit me, however, to run through a number of good causes to which Otedola has identified with financially in the course of time which undoubtedly had underlined his true status as a philanthropist per excellence.
In 2005, he instituted an N200 million scholarship for Lagos state undergraduates. In the same year, he donated N300 million for the completion of the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja.
He at various time donated N100 million to the Lagos state College of Primary Education, N100 million to the Central Mosque, Ilorin (Kwara State), and N100 million to the University of Port Harcourt (River State).
He has committed to building and donating a faculty of engineering valued at N2 billion to the Augustine University in his hometown, Epe in Lagos State.
Recently, his intervention proved life-saving for the sick Christian Chukwu, former captain and coach of Super Eagles; and Peter Fregene, former international goalkeeper; Malek Fashek, celebrated Reggae artiste; Sadiq Daba and Victor Olaitan.
Philanthropy is a way of showing gratitude to God who blesses whom he chooses to bless. And for those who have found it in their heart to commit to it for the rest of their life like Otedola openly declared during the ball, they’re worthy of celebration and encouragement with the prudent application of these ginormous figures.
It would be a tragedy of monumental proportion to hear much later that those interventions are frittered away for personal purposes or diverted to other unrelated purposes. With Save The Children charity, we can only hope based on their track record that the fund would be judiciously used for the purpose it is intended.
And by the time account of stewardship is rendered if indeed it would, the life of Internally Displaced People in the North-east of Nigeria would’ve been positively affected to the glory of God and the donors.

Reality hits Linda Ikeji after Child birth as she makes shocking confessions (photos)
Nigerian and Africa most populous and richest blogger Linda Ikeji is one of the most popular Nigerians living in Nigeria at the moment. She is a blogger, writer, entrepreneur and a onetime model and recently became a mum.
The Mother of one, 38 year old Linda Ikeji has finally agreed and admitted that in life, one can never get everything one wants in life. The rich blogger who is one of the most successful blogger in the world has said this after been called out on many occasions for succumbing to fate and joining the league of unmarried mothers popularly known as “Baby mamas”
Despite the publicity of engagememt, report from many corners has shown that the blogger is not engaged neither is her baby daddy ready to marry her. Hence despite her cravings to have it all; husband, child and money, the blogger has finally agreed that in life we are always running after one thing or another!
‘God made it so” she writes.
Her Full Note:
Oprah Winfrey said ‘You can have everything you want, but not at once’…and I agree. If God gave you every single thing you wanted all at once, will you even remember Him anymore? Will you continue to seek Him? So sometimes I think he just holds some things back from us so we know He’s God. It doesn’t mean He won’t give it to you, it just means He’s not ready to give it to you yet.
That’s why you see everybody pursuing one thing or the other…lol. If it’s not success, its career; If it’s not money, it’s a good job, if it’s not husband/wife, it’s a child; if it’s not pain, it’s an illness. We are all in pursuit of happiness and I think God made it so!
But here’s what you should remember. That He hasnt given it to you yet doesnt mean he won’t. God’s timing is different from ours. We just all need to have the patience to wait on His timing instead of forcing our own.
No matter what you do, never give up on God and remember that once you seek him, He will never leave your side. He’s watching and when he feels the time is right, He will give you some of what you seek…and some more. 😊. Have an amazing day! 😘😘
Linda Ikeji’s family is Roman Catholic and from Nkwerre, Imo State. She is the second child of her parents. She studied English Language at the University of Lagos. While in school she had to take up waitressing, modelling and writing as a part time jobs to make ends meet. She graduated in 2004 and actually started blogging as a hobby 2 years later.
Linda started blogging in 2006, at the time Nigerians were not as conversant with the internet as they are now so because the internet was not as easily accessible as it is now she had to frequent cyber cafes to make posts on her blog. She was blogging as a hobby at first but became an active blogger in 2007 and eventually got her own custom domain.
She was featured on Forbes ‘Africa’s 20 Most Prominent Women’ in 2012 and was the biggest Google search trend in Nigeria in 2014 and she has also been interviewed by BBC. Linda Ikeji has also had quite a significant amount of backlash from celebrities and non-celebrities alike. She even got into a fight with Wizkid and dirty words were thrown.
Her blog was shut down by Google on 8th October 2014 and later restored on 10th October 2014 for reasons that were not clearly stated. Africa's Richest Man Aliko Dangote Pledges $100 Million To Fight Malnutrition In Nigeria
New Post has been published on http://www.vennomax.com/africa/africas-richest-man-aliko-dangote-pledges-100-million-to-fight-malnutrition-in-nigeria/
Africa's Richest Man Aliko Dangote Pledges $100 Million To Fight Malnutrition In Nigeria
The Aliko Dangote Foundation will invest $100 million over five years to tackle malnutrition in the North East and North West, the worst-affected parts of Nigeria.
Zouera Youssoufou, the Managing Director and CEO of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, made the pledge at the recently concluded Global Nutrition Summit in Milan, Italy, which was also attended by Aliko Dangote himself.
“Nigeria’s high malnutrition rate is undermining progress towards improving child health and survival and putting the brakes on economic development,” Youssoufou said.
She added: “By investing in nutrition, we aim to directly improve the lives of Nigerian families and to empower our citizens to reach their full potential.”
The summit on November 4 gathered an impressive array of governments, international agencies, foundations, civil society organizations and businesses.
It was convened with the objective of taking stock of nutrition commitments made to date, celebrating progress toward global goals on nutrition, and announcing additional commitments to accelerate the global response to malnutrition in all its forms.
The Global Nutrition Summit drew a strong African contingent, including world leaders Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations and Chair of the Kofi Annan Foundation; and Graca Machel, Founder of the Graca Machel Trust; high-level representatives of the governments of Tanzania, Niger, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Zambia; and business leaders such as Aliko Dangote, Founder of the Aliko Dangote Foundation and Chairman of the Dangote Group, Africa’s largest home-grown conglomerate.
They joined international stakeholders, including the UK’s Department for International Development, the World Health Organization, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the International Coalition on Advocacy for Nutrition.
The Global Summit highlighted the cost of malnutrition to both societies and individuals. The Global Nutrition Report 2017 launched at the Summit, showed that despite progress, 155 million children globally are stunted and the world is off track on meeting internationally agreed nutrition targets.
Compounding the issue, global financing to tackle malnutrition has been alarmingly low. Donors spend only about 0.5 per cent of overseas aid on nutrition, and countries allocate between one and two percent of their health budgets to the issue.
Like Dangote, African governments also announced new commitments: Ethiopia, through its National Nutrition Programme, pledged to reduce the prevalence of stunted, underweight and wasted children under five.
Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Zambia also made commitments to expand domestic programmes to improve nutrition for mothers and children.
In total, the Summit succeeded in galvanizing $3.4 billion according to the organisers.
“The global malnutrition crisis endangers the physical and mental wellbeing of present and future generations” said Kofi Annan, speaking at the summit in his capacity as Chair of the Kofi Annan Foundation. “Progress in tackling both under nutrition and obesity is possible with targeted commitments, like those made here today. We need further urgent investments so that people, communities and nations can reach their full potential.”
Nigeria boasts not only Africa’s largest population but also the continent’s highest numbers of malnourished children.
Almost half of the one million children who die before the age of five in Nigeria, die of malnutrition as the underlying cause.
Without proper nutrients during the first 1,000 days of life starting from conception up to their second birthday, children are less likely to survive childhood diseases such as malaria and pneumonia, and are less likely to escape poverty as adults.
They become physically and cognitively stunted, a fate that has befallen 11 million of Nigeria’s children under five.
The Aliko Dangote Foundation is on a mission to reduce the prevalence of under nutrition by 60 per cent in the neediest areas of Nigeria, specifically the North East and North West, where malnutrition has affected millions of lives and crippled the local economy.
With this $100 million commitment, the Aliko Dangote Foundation will promote scalable and cost-effective nutrition interventions such as breast feeding, healthy sanitation practices, disease prevention, food fortification and supplementation.
These activities complement other long-term programmes on education, empowerment, food security, water, sanitation and health care.
“We recognize nutrition as a cross-cutting issue which affects other critical development goals, that is why nutrition has become our core focus. We want to reach one million malnourished children in Nigeria by 2021 and we know that for every dollar invested in nutrition, the nation as a whole will reap huge economic dividends,” said Aliko Dangote.
The good news is that malnutrition is beatable.
It is not a natural disaster that one cannot predict or a communicable disease for which there is no cure.
But the fight does demand leadership – zero tolerance on malnutrition from policy makers, more integrated interventions from the public and private sectors and decisive actions backed by greater investments.
Through his Foundation, Aliko Dangote looks set to become the strongest voice for nutritional leadership nationally and on the continent of Africa.

“Awujale: The Autobiography of Alaiyeluwa Oba S. K. Adetona, Ogbagba II”, published by Mosuro Publishers 2010, pp. 187-195, which I attach to this letter was presented to me for my attention.
Your assertion in the publication was a tissue of lies and untruths. Olopade is one of my best friends and yes, I would be at his birthday celebration but I would not have invited Mike, your cousin, to meet me anywhere other than my office or official residence as President of Nigeria. Kabiyesi, do you think I would set the press up to capture me and Mike in a photograph for the newspapers? That would be puerile of me as President. Of course, I could not say that Mike could not do that. That you think that I, as President of Nigeria, would descend to such depravity makes me think of you much less than I thought of you, until now.
The invitation to Mike to contribute to the building of the Library block of Bells University was issued to him by the then Vice-Chancellor, Professor Julius Okogie, who never told me about inviting Mike to so contribute until Mike pulled out. And that I have not and I will not talk to Mike about it should convince you that I know nothing about its genesis.
Under my watch, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, was free to do its job as it saw fit. Common sense would suggest that wild rumours should not be perpetrated by an Oba of your calibre. Kabiyesi, your cousin did not tell you that My Chief of Staff, Abdul Mohammed, put his reputation on line by assuring EFCC that Mike would go nowhere and they should trust him to give him his passport.
I did not even know that Abdul had done that until the Chairman of EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu, reported the case of my Chief of Staff seemingly colluding with Mike to run out of the country. But I had implicit confidence in my Chief of Staff and I was to resolve the issue. Should your cousin not have mentioned to Abdul who guaranteed the release of his passport his fears and intention to go on exile?
On several occasions, Nuhu Ribadu has asserted that, under my watch, he was a free agent to do his work as he deemed fit. Where it was necessary, he reported the outcome of his work to me and the subsequent or follow-up actions he intended to take. On no occasion did I guide, lead or direct him on what to do.
Mike did not need to send anything to me to satisfy me, he needed to satisfy EFCC and so your sending any documents to me was insinuating that I am the one to be satisfied rather than the EFCC.
So, such documents were not paid any attention by me. You, as the cousin and part beneficiary from Mike as you have told me in the past, would not be able to see the tree from the forest as far as the mode of operation of Nuhu Ribadu was concerned viz-a-viz Mike.
If the EFCC was investigating anybody, I did not consider it right for me as the President of Nigeria to be undermining EFCC by hobnobbing with that person. EFCC must be given free hand to do its work. Even if such a person was my child, the best I could do would be to secure a good lawyer to handle the matter before the EFCC for that child.
It is not only in the case of Obajana Cement that you were rumour-mongering about me. You have done that repeatedly on many occasions. The latest one you did in 2016 was you telling me that you heard that I had gone to Rasak Okoya to seek to marry her daughter, Abiola, when it was the girl that came to appeal to me to intervene to placate and appeal to her father to forgive her for all her misbehaviour to her father.
I did and the father and daughter were reconciled. I told you even then that it was unbecoming of an Oba. Of course, I am used to such rumours, slandering and insinuations since my days as a Unit Commander in the Army and I have developed thick skin. If ten per cent of the rumours ascribing businesses and properties I know nothing about were true, I would be the richest man on earth.
But recently, when Aliko, yourself and myself were together, Aliko assured you that I never ever had a single share in any of Aliko’s business interests but whenever he has called on me to help within and without to promote his business interest, I have always helped and I will always do because that is part of my job as a Nigerian leader – to help Nigerians grow their businesses or interests – and I have done that for other Nigerians and indeed for non-Nigerians, Africans and non-Africans who have requested me for help.
It was revealing to me on that occasion when Aliko made the point that one of his directors on his cement company is somebody very close to you.
I owed nobody any apologies in the course of doing my work as I believe I should do it or in the course of defending the interest of Nigeria and defending my integrity.
As I could not open the treasury for S. O. Bakare for your so-called political support to me, I did not regard that as an offence. To the extent that I believed and regarded as proper, I instructed Tony Anenih as Minister of Works to patronize S. O. Bakare as a Peugeot car dealer.
I will not comment on Atiku issue that you touched upon in your book because I have dealt with that elsewhere and you were only dabbling into an area where and thing you are absolutely ignorant about.
All that you wanted me to do in respect of Mike was improper whether when I was President or when I was out of office. I must not be seen to be in the way of allowing law to take its natural course. All I should do is to help the course of the law and help secure a good lawyer to help the process.
It is of interest to me that Mike did not tell you that when he wanted national honour, he came to me and I did not react until Babangida recommended him and said, “Of all those I have helped, Mike is one of the most appreciative.”
Kabiyesi, if I have squandered all the goodwill I had, you would not have contacted me on behalf of All Progressive Party, APC, to receive them in 2014 and you would not have been personally present when I received them as I demanded. I probably have greater goodwill today internally and externally than I had in office.
Kabiyesi, the total sum of what you have put down in those pages of your book is that I dislike Mike. Maybe I need to remind you that if there was any iota of truth in such a position or mindset, Mike would not have been granted the mobile telephone licence which made him a billionaire.
It was my prerogative as the President so to do. You may also be reminded that in the first round of the auction which Mike did not make, the country earned US$285 million for each licence.
The country earned only US$200 million from the licence transaction with Mike and in the subsequent transaction with Etisalat, the country earned US$400 million. It was a deliberate action on my part that a Nigerian should own one of the licences. Anybody else but Mike could have been that Nigerian.
Kabiyesi, the type of hate propaganda you have tried to project in that section of your book against my person is grossly unbecoming of an Oba let alone an Oba of your status and stature.
However, I still accord you the respect which I believe an Oba should be accorded and one for that matter who I presume to be a friend. In spite of your unfortunate projection, my position remains the same – respect for you as an Oba and a friend.
Kabiyesi, I believe that I should set the record straight for posterity and to caution you from engaging in unedifying rumour-mongering and untruth. Accept the assurances of my highest consideration.”
