On St David's Day and celebration of Welsh heritage and culture. I needed to see this clip today. It feels so fitting to what's going on in the world right now

Richard Burton reciting from Shakespeare's
"What a piece of work is a man" monologue, in Hamlet. When he did this on stage in 1964, it would have been booming out through the Broadway venue, but there's something equally powerful about hearing him recite it in a more understated way, in close-up.
He was noted for his mellifluous baritone voice. Burton established himself as a formidable Shakespearean actor in the 1950s and gave a memorable performance as Hamlet in 1964. He was called the natural successor to Sir Lawrence Olivier.
Richard Burton CBE. The Welsh actor was born Richard Walter Jenkins Jr. 10th November 1925 in Pontrhydyfen (or Pont-rhyd-y-fen) is a small village in the Afan Valley, in Neath Port Talbot county borough in Wales đŸŽó §ó ąó ·ó Źó łó ż and educated in Exeter College, Oxford. LÉGENDES DU JAZZ
LEROY JENKINS, VIOLONISTE DE FREE JAZZ
‘’Our music was a result of Ornette Coleman and Cecil Taylor. And we prided ourselves on taking it further, because we studied Cage, and Xenakis, and Schoenberg, and all those guys. They were the ones who broke away from the old way in classical music, so we had to study them to see how we could break away."
- Leroy Jenkins
Il expliquait:  "it was something different, something where I could really be violinistic... I discovered that I would be able to play more of my instrument and I wouldn't have to worry about the cliches... I found out that I could really soar, I found out how I could really play."
Jenkins prĂ©cisait: "We stayed downstairs... It was cold down there, where we slept. Ornette gave us a mattress but he didn't realize how cold it was."
Également publiĂ© en dĂ©cembre 1975, l’album ‘’Ponderous Planets on The People's Republic’’ avait expĂ©rimentĂ© avec diffĂ©rentes textures.
"Wynton Marsalis was in, and people started talking about going back to classic jazz. We couldn't play in clubs. As soon as we'd walk in, the jazz guys, the beboppers, would walk out. We'd come in and make a big sound, and they didn't go for it. They'd say, 'Oh, the noisemakers.' They wanted chord changes. Our music was a result of Ornette Coleman and Cecil Taylor. And we prided ourselves on taking it further, because we studied Cage, and Xenakis, and Schoenberg, and all those guys. They were the ones who broke away from the old way in classical music, so we had to study them to see how we could break away."
Le critique du magazine Down Beat, James Hale, avait Ă©crit au sujet de cet album:  "Jarman's devotion to Buddhism dovetails with Melford's interest in music for the harmonium, while Jenkins thrives on developing thematic patterns that span musical cultures from East Asia to Appalachia. Together, the three create music that defies categorization beyond the beauty and humanity that suffuse all of it."
Comme l’avait dĂ©clarĂ© un critique du San Francisco Chronicle, "Jenkins is a master who cuts across all categories."

Burn After Reading (2008) & The Big Lebowski (1998):The most innocent ones end up getting killedđŸ”Ș
1. Chad Feldheimer: just a simple dude who likes to exercise, dislikes Maryland tap water and ends up getting shot due to paranoia

2. Ted Treffon: just lowkey in love with Linda Litzke and wants to run his gym without issue
winds up getting shot by the angry Mr. Cox in a misunderstanding

🎬Fun fact: Before becoming famous, Richard Jenkins drove a linen truck and John C Reilley’s dad was his boss! Who would’ve guessed those two would work on Stepbrothers later in life?!

My 2023 Reading Stats
My goal was to read 12 books. I read 45 total!
I read mostly authors I'd never read before. I made a significant dent in my purchased TBR. I read 5 classics. I read 7 genres.
I checked out 3 books from my local library.
I did not finish 3 books. Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, and Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy.
Reasons: LLD the two main characters were getting on my fucking nerves so bad. Valmont leave that woman ALONE! Also, the epistolary style does not make for active reading.
Lolita. I mean, take a wild guess.
AK. To many characters with the same name, I also signed up for one thing, but it's about a whole bunch of things.
I read the longest book I've ever read, Gone with the Wind. I thought it would take a year. Surprisingly, it took a month. December 22nd to January 22nd. I took four days off because the racism was getting on my nerves. I also sometimes just missed a day or two.
January
Tumblr media
Loved: To Catch a Raven by Beverly Jenkins, The Wedding by Dorothy West, The Revenant by Michael Punke.
I refuse to say I loved this book, but I did enjoy reading it, a lot: Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
February
Tumblr media
Loved: Their Eyes were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, The Women of Brewster Place by Gloria Naylor, If There be Thorns by VC Andrews, Barbarian Alien by Ruby Dixon.
Read: My Best Friend's Exorcism by Gravy Hendrix
March
Loved: Priest by Sierra Simone, Roses are Red by James Patterson
Read depressingly: The Stranger by Albert Camus
April
Tumblr media
Loved: A Hero Ain't Nothin' but a Sandwich by Alice Childress, Moby Dick by Herman Melville. Big Bad Wolf by James Patterson
Read: In the Woods by Tana French
May
Tumblr media
Loved: Whatever Happened to Baby Jane by Henry Farrell
Liked: Animal Farm by George Orwell, Candice by Voltaire
Read: The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory, The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith
Hated: GOTH by Otsuichi. It was like reading an edgelords Wattpad writing.
This month was so Meh. Baby Jane came in at the end and saved it.
June
Tumblr media
Loved: The Invisible Man by HG Wells, Seeds of Yesterday by VC Andrews
Liked: Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen, Devil in a Blue Dress by Walter Mosley, Violets are Blue by James Patterson
Read: The Body by Stephen King.
I have one Flowers in the Attic book left in looking into the other VC Andrews books, but none of them are calling me like Flowers. Maybe I'll read the one with the twins.
July
Loved: The War of the World's by H.G. Wells, An Offer from a Gentleman by Julia Quinn, London Bridges by James Patterson
August
Tumblr media
Read: The Hallowe'en Party or A Haunting in Venice by Agatha Christie

September

Loved: I am Legend by Richard Matheson
Liked: The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
October
Tumblr media
Loved: Hannibal by Thomas Harris, Romancing Mister Bridgerton by Julia Quinn
Read: The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty
I have one Hannibal book left. What am I supposed to do for Halloween 2025?
November
Tumblr media
Loved: An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon and The Song of Achilles by McAllen l Madeline Miller
Liked: The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
December
Tumblr media
Loved: Difficult Women by Roxane Gay
Liked: Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut
Read: Marnie by Winston Graham.
The book I was looking forward to the most. It's one of my favorite movies. It was the book I just wanted to end. Also, I keep calling this author every name but his own. Winston Granton, William Granston, Graham Wilson.
