Why are you silenced, you supposed

Trumpeters of Spring? *1 Richard L. Ratliff

the message the poet penned,

Is it the fresh fall of snow and wintering?

Such an enthusiastic launch

of the new season of gold and green,

Only to be blanked out by white

slowed down, put to bed , a has been?

The spiralling, blustery blizzard,

is no respecter of reputation…

But instead a usurper who’s stolen a March day

for gaining pole position.

And yet there you are in your golden hosts,

turning your backs on the inclement weather

while the rest of us batten down the hatches

claiming to be “at the end of our tether.”

You must shed those ice dripping shackles

and trumpet again with wavering courage

nodding your golden heads and

Re-sending your bell-shaped message.
