Are there any characters you can think of (both in FE and out of FE) that were as mischaracterized in the localization as Rhea?

I can't think of anything right now, but for FE - people more knowledgeable about Fates might have things to say, but iirc we have Effie who is pretty different in the lolcalisation than in the base game, and Xander too?

I think they were more "mischaracterised" in a way that for some characters we're straight up looking at OCs, when Rhage can be seen as "Rhea the DeathEater".

What's more annoying about Rhea is how the mischaracterisation ultimately led to some people (even VAs !) see negatively her character - or react more strongly to her character, like remember the hair trigger temper and one of the usual devoted fan argument about her being "cray-cray and exploding in anger at the slightest provocation"?

Imo, that's because her agressitivity and anger were played up to 11 - Rhea is someone who bakes cookies and grows plants, Yuri killed her soldiers but Rhea had enough "self-control" not to eradicate him on spot, but ultimately find out the hows and whys he did this and came to trust him.

Hair-trigger temper and "cray-cray exploding in anger at the slightest provocation"!Rhea would have had to be physically restrained from executing him on spot. Aelfie telling her "nuh-uh I'm still going to perform weird blood transmutation fuck off" would have been erased too, but... Both Aelfie and Yuri aren't.

Tl;Dr : the lolcalisation didn't only mischaracterise Rhea, they worsened her for ~ reasons ~ and it made a lasting impression on the fandom (VAs are part of the fandom).

This is why I'm always happy when FeH delivers Rhea content, shitting on NoA's!Rhage - even if whoever is in charge of localising the content tries their hardest - and the Halloween!alt is a perfect exemple. If Rhage "doesn't just try she just is" - then why the Halloween alt wonders if she has to learn how to perform a trick because that's what witches does, or is annoyed because Seteth will give her a lecture about "appropriate clothes" later on? Winking?? Rhage isn't playful she is composed - but Rhea is!

Actually, I wonder if the localisation - bar the hair-trigger temper - didn't mistake Rhea for Ashera in her "just is" + "composed" etc etc. Halloween!Mila sounds more playful than Halloween!Rhea ffs!

Surprising Change Of Plans (part 3)

Enemies to lovers (Rhea Ripley x fem. Reader):

Summary: You're a well known wrestler in WWE and Rhea is your worst enemy. You hate each other in and outside of the ring. Rhea always flirts with you, not that she means it, she just knows it makes you furious and wants to annoy you. But one day everything changes and you start to feel like all of this isn't a joke anymore and that there might actually be something between you two.

The next morning you get up and notice Rhea sitting in the kitchen, same spot as yesterday. "Early bird huh?" you mock her a little. But she doesn't respond, she just keeps staring  in the air with empty eyes.

Although you didn't like to admit it, deep in you there were feelings for her. Like, you can't deny it, she looks extremely good and it secretly made you a little jealous when she was flirting with others. But when she did it with you it made you angry, knowing she probably doesn't even mean it, considering the way she treated you the rest of the time.

"You okay?" you ask her and she closes her eyes and buries her head in her hands. "Alright" you sigh and sit down across from her "what is it?" Rhea needs a moment before she could respond, but then tells you that it really hurts her how you always treat her so coldly and that she meant what she said yesterday about really liking you.

For a few minutes no one says a word after she finished. You take a deep breath and speak up again. "listen Rhea, I don't know if this is just a trick but let's assume it's not. I'm sorry for saying I'd rather die than to be in a relationship with you, because it's not true. But before you gain hope" you quickly add, seeing her eyes glimmer with hope "we can't be in a relationship, I'm- I'm not gay you know? Yes you're good looking and yes you can be very charming and everything but I just don't like you that way. I'm sorry"

Rhea nods slowly as she prosessed your words. "Okay.. Guess we'll see each other at work then" and with that she stands up and leaves. You spend the rest of your day working out, doing stuff around the house, anything to distract you but your conversation from earlier just won't leave your head.

The next day at work you have a meeting with your boss Triple H. He tells you that they have plans for you joining the Judgement Day. "Why that? Rhea and I hate each other in the ring and outside we also don't really get along" you throw in your concern. "Just trust me, I'm gonna work the things out on stage and you just have to try and befriend Rhea" he offers you a smile but you get up and leave.

You cannot believe what you just heard. You as a new member of the Judgement Day, how pathetic. You walk over to the work out area to skip some time before your match tonight, as Dominik crosses your way.

"Hey y/n" he greets you with a smile. "Hey" you mumble and try to get past him. "Is it right that you're joining us? Cause if so, I'm really excited to not be the youngest one anymore" he grins. You huff and push him to the side. You weren't in the mood for his happiness right now. Dom pauses a second to look after you confused before he continues his way.

Once you arrive in the workout area you lock eyes with Rhea who immediately pretends to be busy. You shake your head, thinking she's acting childish just because you rejected her. Someone taps your shoulder and you turn around. It was your boss again and he mentiones for Rhea to also get over to you.

"listen ladies. Rhea, I know you originally didn't have a match for tonight but you do now. And y/n, your opponent just called in sick, you're now fighting against Ripley. 's that okay with everybody?" he raises and eyebrow and looks at both of you with a serious expression. "Fine" you mumble, Rhea just nods. Before you walk away Triple H tells the two of you how he planned your reunion on stage and reminds you to work things out together in private.

Your intro began to play and you walk out onto the stage. You were lucky to get your favorite song Hit and Run by LOLO as your intro. Pretty fitting, you think as you walk down the ramp with raised arms and a devilish grin. You enjoyed the sound of the cheering croud and them singing along loudly to your music.

"AND HERE WE HAVE THE QUEEN OF HEELLL" the announcer yells. You get into the ring and get up on the second rope, screaming along to your favorite line. "I GREW INTO THE QUEEN OF HELL" the cheers grew louder until your intro went quiet and Rhea's began to play.

"AND OH MY GOD WHO IS THAT? IT'S RHEA RIPLEY! SHE SHOULDN'T EVEN BE HERE TONIGHT BUT WHO DOESN'T LOVE A SURPRISE MATCH?!" everyone in the room went wild and you had to fight the urge to cover your ears. Rhea on the other hand was visibly enjoying all the cheers and screams from the crowd and walked towards the ring as confident as ever.

You smiled internally. She looked good and you could totally see yourself enjoying her company at night. Fantasies of the two of you in bed popped up in your head and you quickly pushed them away. This was not the time to think about stuff like this, plus, you're not gay why are you even thinking about another woman like this?

The bell rings and Rhea shoots you her significant mischievous grin before attacking you with full force. You weren't prepared for it and stumble backwards into a corner where she locks you in place and hits your face a few times before the refs pulls her away. You use the distraction to pick her up and throw her against the ropes and onto the floor. She grunts in pain and while she's laying there you climb on the top rope to land a diving spash but Rhea rolls away just in time and you hit the mat hard.

It's going back and forth, everyone landing a few hits until you eventually end her with a chokeslam. Your song busts through the cheers and screams of the crowd. You're both panting heavily but Rhea grins up at you, mouthing "good game" before getting up and walking out of the ring.

What better time than WrestleMania to announce to the void of the internet that I think I'm actually a little gay after all

Everytime I see your Pat lolcalization posts, I can't help but think if this is him overcompensating for voicing the character of n*zi germany in the first seasons of the hetalia anime.

I can't say and I'd rather not say anything about Pat's intent or own agenda or whatever -

But the interesting "lolcalisation changes" and direction give to VAs really seem to favour a certain reading of the events happening in FE16 and to this day, I still can't understand how that managed to be released without getting at least some flak.

Sure Fates' lolcalisation is a tough nut to beat and nothing comes quite close to what happened to Fates to FE16/Nopes, and yet I wish I am joking when I say nearly 80% of the lines involving Supreme Leader and/or Rhea/the CoS should be double checked, because "Dany expy bringing a revolution" has to fit in the story that is FE16, and that's talking about the washed down version of Dany some people have and not the one who uses violence for the greater good, until she starts to realise that the "greater good" is as solid as smoke and runs away from the - well-intentioned ! - mess she created.

Again, I don't think anything was malicious with the lolcalisation Fodlan got, is it just a case of misunderstanding the game and slapping archetypes and "trendy notions" to make this "strange" game sell like hotcakes in your home market?

Or is it another case of "think of the children Susan" where Susan sure as hell can't endorse a character presented as the heroine sprout disgusting things and advocate for imperialism 101 so the heroine is now rewritten?

Or is it the lolcalisation team - after looking at the jp script - try to make the general idea of "you must feel bad for this character" somehow work, because they thought no one would seriously want to walk with her and feel any sort of sad uwus for the "you have pointy ears, you cannot rule over humans" red emperor? So they modified the script and directed the VA accordingly ?

IDK, but I think if you've been long enough on this blog you know my stance on localisation and lolcalisation but this discrepency between the two versions (or at least two audios) really took me by surprise when the game was released in 2019 lol

Rhea Ripley x Reader

Tw: physical and sexual abuse, toxic relationship, selfharm, eating disorder

Summary: You are in a toxic relationship with an abusive man but manage to run away. A tall, black haired woman picks you up from the streets just in time so your ex doesn't get you. But who is she and why does she seem so familiar to you? As you get to know each other you start to notice weird feelings you never had before whenever she's around.

Rhea walks back into her locker room. She just lost a match and is super frustrated and angry at herself.

"Hey babe, you did great out there" you try to cheer her up. She huffs "oh really? Then why'd I lose?"

You just stand there awkwardly, not knowing what to do or say. "I'm sorry darling" she sighs "I think I just need some time alone for now.. Will you wait in the car until I'm finished changing?"

You nod and grab the keys. You walk out the door and head for Rhea's car. You open it and sit down on the passengers seat.

About 20 minutes later you hear a knock on the drivers side window. You unlock the door and Demi gets in." Sorry you had to wait so long" she apologizes.

"It's fine, let's just get home." you brush it off. "why in such a hurry?" she looks at you confused. "mmh let's just say I have a surprise for you" you whisper and smirk.

"Is that so?" she grins. During the car ride she keeps her hand on your thigh. It's almost like a ritual now.

She trails her hand up and down, knowing your limits by now. You arrive at her apartment and get out.

"Soo, what is your surprise?" she asks, failing to hide her excitement. "Be patient babygirl" you tease her. She groans and follows you inside.

"Y/nnn" she begs. "Don't tease me like that". You chuckle "well, what about you go grab some snacks and meet me in the bathroom?"

Rhea looks a little confused but does what you say. You go and run a bath with lots of foam and sit down on the edge of the bath tub waiting for her. Stripped. Naked.

The door opens a few minutes later. Demi was looking down at the bags in her hands, seeming very concentrated.

"I didn't know what you meant by snacks so I just brought everything I found and-" she looks up and her jaw drops.

Everything she was carrying just moments before falls down onto the floor. You laugh. "I- uh- you.. What?!" Rhea stutters.

You walk toward her and cup her cheeks. "I thought you might like a surprise like this" you say grinning and kiss her.

She finally finds her words again "Oh, I'm gonna show you how much I like it" she growls and smirks.

She quickly gets rid of all her clothing, not bothering about the mess on the floor. "Come here baby" she says, her voice full of lust.

She grabs you by the wrist and pulls you in for a kiss. "How far am I allowed to go?" she groans. "Touch me where ever you'd like"

"Hmm but you don't need to do this just because of me" she hums and kisses you passionately. "I know" you breathe out.

Rhea picks you up, squeezing your ass making you moan into the kiss, which just turns her on even more.

"Fuck y/n I don't know if I can hold myself back" she whispers, panic seeping through. "Would you stop if I tell you to?" you ask her, keeping your calm.

"Always, I'd never hurt you on purpose" Rhea looks you deep in the eyes. She's dead serious. You smile and kiss her. "Then why don't you continue?" you smirk.
