Berioso reports for OPMB Worldwide Twenty year-old Accountancy student at the University of Cordilleras representing the Panagbenga Festival is the new Reyna Ng Aliwan 2019. The news was officially announced by Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) top honcho Ruperto Nicdao, Jr. during a special press conference held at the Davao Function Room of Sofitel Philippine Plaza, CCP Complex, Pasay City last August 28. Roi Neve Comanda of Baguio City assumed the title of Reyna Ng Aliwan 2019 originally won by Nicole Borromeo of Sinulog Festival in Cebu last April where Neve placed 2nd runner-up. Borromeo was stripped of her title due to violation of the terms and conditions set by the organization which she and her manager conformed to in writing prior to the start of the competition. She was the 9th Cebuana to win the prestigious title which started way back 2003. Neve on her part, she says that she is very happy and ecstatic to begin her reign as the new Reyna Ng Aliwan Festival. She also rest assured the members of the media who attended the announcement that there is no bad blood between her and Borromeo. In fact they were room mates and close to each other during the course of the search last April. She was crowned by Reyna Ng Aliwan 2018 and Miss Philippines Water 2019 Chelsea Fernandez of Tacloban City Before Neve assumed the title this year, there were 2 Baguio lass who already won the title in previous edition. Syrel Aubrey Amazona (2005) and Vera Eumee Reiter(2006). Reyna Ng Aliwan is a rich source of potential national beauty queen title holders. Newly crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2019 Gazini Jordi Ganados is an alumna of the festival queen search. Other notable winners of the annual festival search are Rizzini Gomez, Mary Jean Latimosa, Jamie Herrel, Angeli Dion Gomez, Rogelie Catacutan, Cynthia Thomalla among others. Reyna Ng Aliwan is an annual search and part of the Aliwan Festival organized by Manila Broadcasting Company in cooperation with Cultural Center of the Philippines. Aside from the pageant aspect of the festival, other main event for competition are the street dance and Float Parade. In 2018, Leyte dominated the Aliwan Fiesta by winning all three (3) of the major competitions, namely: Best Float by Tacloban City; Reyna ng Aliwan by Sangyaw Festival of Tacloban City represented by Ms. Chelsea Fernandez; and Best in Street Dancing by Buraburon Festival of Burauen, Leyte. And in 2019, Leyte yet again swept the winnings in three’s: - Tacloban City won its third-in-a-row BEST FLOAT earning them a grandslam title thanks to Sir Nick Guarino; - On its second attempt after winning 2nd Place in 2003, Pasaka Festival of Tanauan, Leyte took home this year’s BEST IN STREET DANCE title earning them as one (1) of three (3) festivals from Leyte to ever win the championship crown following Buraburon Festival (2018) and Buyogan Festival (2009); and - Although Buraburon Festival of Burauen, Leyte failed to set a back-to-back win this year, it managed to win three (3) awards, namely: BEST IN COSTUME, BEST MUSIC, and a Second Place in the BEST IN STREET DANCE. In the history of Aliwan Fiesta for Eastern Visayas, Catbalogan City’s Manaragat Festival has so far won two (2) championship titles in 2015 and 2016; while other festivals like Mayaw-Mayaw Festival of Pinabacdao, Samar won 3rd Place (2015); Buyogan Festival won 2nd Place (2012); Lingganay Festival of Alang-Alang, Leyte won 3rd Place (2012); Alikaraw Festival of Hilongos, Leyte won 3rd Place (2007); and Sarakiki-Hadang Festival of Calbayog City won 3rd Place (2003). Although Dinagyang Festival of Iloilo City has won the most number of championship titles in Aliwan, only Lumad Basakanon representing Sinulog Festival of Cebu City has ever been recognized in the Hall of Fame of Aliwan Fiesta having won three consecutive championships in 2006, 2007, and 2008. No festival contingent in Eastern Visayas has even been awarded with a Grand Slam distinction but Eastern Visayas is now being known as the home of the best of Philippine festivals after securing different wins of different festival contingents not only in Aliwan but in other festival competitions as well. Deemed the mother of best fiestas in the Philippines, this year’s Aliwan Fiesta is slated to be held this coming April 20 to 21, 2017.

Started back in 2003, Aliwan Fiesta features different traditions and cultures in the Philippines.

Celebrated every year, this festivity will showcase a wide array of contingents from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The different contingents will go head-to-head in a Festival Music Showdown, Reyna ng Aliwan pageant, float parade, and grand street dancing contest.

Organized by MBC, CCP, and Cities of Pasay and Manila

The Aliwan Fiesta 2017, otherwise known “Festivals of Festivals,” is organized by Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) in partnership with the cities of Pasay and Manila along with Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).

At the moment, organizers has yet to reveal the official schedule of activities for Aliwan Fiesta 2017. Based on last year’s Aliwan Fiesta, however, this three-day event will showcase trade fairs and nightly shows that will contribute to the excitement of the whole event.

What to Expect

Since the official schedule is not released yet, let us take a look at the activities during the Aliwan Bazaar 2016:

Aliwan Shoppers Bazaar – This whole-day activity was held from the first to the last day of the event.

Tugtog ng Aliwan – This is the event’s Festival Music Showdown. Last year, it was held during the first day of the event.

Reyna ng Aliwan Beauty Pageant – The search for the Reyna ng Aliwan will be held on the second day of the festival. The Festival Queen Competition is composed of Filipina beauties who represent different festivals across the nation.

Aliwan Float Parade and Street Dance Competition – Last year, the event kicked off at 4 PM at the Quirino Grandstand. The Culminating Showdown was held at Sotto Street, CCP Complex at 6 PM. The Awarding Ceremonies was held at 9 PM.
