#kirby#daily kirby#my art#digital#hal laboratory#nintendo#an accurate representation of my day#I did not make anything (aside from a little knitting and a pan of crescent rolls)#I just spent. uh. 5 hours researching resin crafts.#I've been fascinated with resin for like a decade#but it's so expensive! and I thought the applications were so limited!#so I intentionally kept myself out of it!#like obviously I knew it was great for water facsimiles#and I was vaguely aware I could use it to make the little cabochons for lolita accessories and stuff#but in the past 5 hours I have learned how shaker charms work#(which I've always kinda wanted to make gorb shakers but assumed they *had* to be done by a manufacturer)#and I've been reminded that bezels exist and if you're careful with how you go about things they can be made very very similar to enamel pin#*pins#(something I've *also* wanted to make for years but haven't due to sunk cost and minimum order quantities)#so uhhhhhhhhhh#if I get to stay on the good med there may be more gorb merch this fall.#since I can make it by hand.#(superaenbow had the great idea of making like set boxes of merch instead of a la carte individual items)#(since they're also chronically ill and it takes a lot less energy to pack 20 identical boxes in a row when you've got time flexibility)#(rather than like 10-40 unique packages)#(I would probably be doing something like that. or like maybe mostly set boxes and a few extras a la carte or something.)#(could make prints and maybe do die-cut stickers since it would take less wrestling with the machine than the kiss-cut)#(anyway no guarantees! dunno if I get to keep the good med!)#favorites

I'm all for my fellow merch makers making whatever decisions they want with what they produce. But I wish it were more widely known that a clear epoxy coat over acrylic pins and charms will yellow over time. ;;
#there are pros and cons to many things epoxy included!!#like if its a coat over the print then like. it can protect the print itself from getting scratched#and hell it just Looks Nice. the domed effect is very cool :)#when theres glitter in there too??? whoa mama#but yeah. the yellowing. granted it could take a few years for that to start#perhaps also depending on the manufacturer and the epoxy used#as well as sometimes the epoxy surface has like. a residual tackiness to it? (from my vograce experiences)#if you're slow to move merchandise like I am tho. it kinda makes stuff with epoxy feel like a ticking timebomb#unfortunately all my previous charms are epoxy domed bc i didn't know this at the time!! but I'm avoiding epoxy for my new pin sets#and won't be using it for charms again in the future. just as a personal preference.#like dont get me wrong. they'll be fine for a good long while#but i was going through my old charms bought from cons again the other day and even some of the ones from just two years ago#were yellowing 😞#grafftalk#delete later#also the same with clear epoxy resin in typical resin work. bc its the same stuff#but thats why a lot of resin crafts are best done with colour bc it usually hides the effects of the oxidation

been loosely following resin art as a topic for like 5 years and today was the SECOND time I've ever seen a page where someone is using resin to make something necessary, ie prosthetic limbs. THAT is an art medium that requires resin, not trinket trays. First time was when I discovered neowalksticks

are makeship plushies even good? as in, quality. ive never heard anything bad about them (ill be honest i havent heard ANYTHING about them) but im always annoyed by the fact that they ONLY do campagins you cant just go "hi heres the money make me 100 plushies" and they seem to have a rerun thing but only for particularly sucessful plushies...
If they are, i wonder if theres a reputable maker out there like them that'll REALLY get the job done right off the bat no campaigning needed...
