Rewarding myself for being very brave for the blood test (and the preceding two days of not being allowed to eat or drink the things I crave the most) with some cupcakes!
There's this pastry shop (and technically also cafe, but mostly confectionary) that makes the best cupcakes in the city, and for pretty affordable prices too! It's called Betty Sweet, and you probably wouldn't find it if you didn't know where to look, because it's at the end of the road in this area that only has warehouses and the like. The shop itself is basically in one, just behind a really average looking side door halfway up some sort of docking ramp. A friend of mine accidentally found it once while googling coffee shops after my fave place closed down.
They didn't have my faves this time around (their red velvet cupcakes are amaaaaazing!) so I got carrot cake and banana chocolate.

you know i don't use amazon but something i often think about. several years ago my mom ordered me some books for my birthday on amazon and one of them i asked for was the oxford world's classics edition of the rover and other plays by aphra behn edited and with an introduction by jane spencer. it was supposedly new but when it got to me, the cover (paperback) was folded at an angle and the edges of the pages were dirty like they were left somewhere contaminated. and you see i don't mind like a not-pristine book at all; most of my books are used. but what the fuck was that.
#that's still the edition i read out of and everything but wtf#i get that it is not a popular book at all#it probably has been sitting in the warehouse for a very long time#how is amazon treating their rare-selling inventory? that things get neglected like that?#i suppose it's a bit of a bummer bc it's damaged and i could've had a nice new one#but i never made a fuss or anything#tales from diana#fun fact it is listed as the 593456th best-selling book on amazon#act fast!!!!! grab a copy now!!!!!!!#no but you really should grab a copy. aphra behn's works are so under-recognized for how influential they were#and they're just funny fucking plays. the feigned courtesans? bruh#its the 880219th best-selling book according to barnes and noble's website#their awful 30-dollar gilded leather paperweight of the complete works of shakespeare (w no notes and unreadably small text)#is 2429th in sales. when it deserves to be negative a millionth#srsly the existence of that book pisses me off since it CANNOT be a good way to be introduced to his works#if anything it must be so frustrating. if u are someone or theres someone in your life curious abt shakespeare buy any other edition#it's not hard to find the arden or the oxford or the riverside shakespeare etc. for less than $30 secondhand online#or buy the plays individually or rent them from a library if you're just getting your feet wet/don't want a big unwieldy tome#literally that gigantic copy-paste w no new or useful supplementary material they've been selling for years. i cant imagine#how many ppl have bought it and tried to read through it and been so discouraged. makes me sad honestly#and frankly. on top of it. their design is just so ugly#there's no thought in it at all it's just a fancy pattern w a first folio engraving smacked onto the center. yawn#my riverside shakespeare 1973 is in really rough physical condition but the vestiges of its beautiful design remain#and that's that on that#also if there's anyone in your life who is interested in shakespeare please also turn them onto aphra behn. pls and thank you

do you know how long you are planning on selling the plushies for? I will be able to get the money to get them soon, but I’m worried I will end up missing it one day somehow and lose any chance to get one or so.
Hello! I believe as of now, Sadie, Beau, Nebula, Beans, and Sprinkles are still in stock, but I'll have pre-orders open for those that have sold out already soon! this year i am working on storage solutions so that I can keep them in stock for longer - essentially what I'm saying is this won't be the last chance to grab them! they'll keep coming back for a while!

by far the most unrealistic thing about my ship with karnaka is the concept that i somehow make enough money with vfx work and miscellaneous photography gigs to own my own house, a bit of property that it sits on, a vehicle, and the rent on my warehouse.

How are warehouse rates determined?
When providing storage and handling services to businesses, several factors come into play when determining warehouse rates. One of the most significant factors is the size of the warehouse. Location is another critical consideration, as are the facility's specific services.
Let's look into some of the key factors that play a role in determining warehouse rates:
1-Location: The geographical location of the warehouse is a significant factor in determining the rates. Warehouses located in prime, accessible areas, close to major transportation hubs and industrial centres, typically have higher rates due to their strategic advantages.
2-Size and Capacity:
The total square footage and storage capacity of the warehouse has a direct impact on the rates. Larger facilities tend to have higher rates due to the increased space and resources required to maintain them.
3-Services Provided: Different warehouses offer various services, such as order fulfilment, inventory management, kitting, packaging, and distribution. The more services a warehouse provides, the higher the rates are likely to be.
4-Lease Terms: Different lease terms may be available for warehouses, including short-term or long-term contracts. Opting for a long-term contract can result in lower rates, as it provides stability and commitment for the warehouse operator. Alternatively, On-Demand warehousing is a newer and more adaptable option, allowing you to use storage services for the duration you require and pay accordingly. With no commitments or tying down contracts, it offers greater flexibility.
5-Accessibility and Infrastructure: Warehouses equipped with modern technology, advanced material handling equipment, security systems, and proper infrastructure may charge higher rates because of the additional benefits they provide.
6-Handling Requirements: If your business requires specialized handling, such as hazardous or regulated goods, the rates will likely be higher due to the additional resources, expertise, safety and compliance measures provided.
7-Seasonal Demand: Warehouses may adjust their rates based on seasonal demand fluctuations. During peak seasons, rates may increase when there is a higher demand for storage space.
8-Labour Costs: The labour cost of the particular region can also influence the rates. Areas with higher labour costs may have slightly higher warehouse rates.
9-Insurance Costs: Warehouses typically carry insurance to protect against theft, damage, and liability. The cost of this insurance is usually included in the monthly warehouse rental.
10-Market Competition: Competition among warehouses in a particular area can also impact the rates. In a highly competitive market, warehouses may offer more competitive pricing to attract customers.
11-Value-added Services: Some warehouses may provide value-added services like custom labelling, repackaging, or quality control. These additional services may cost extra, affecting the overall rates.
Finally, the customer's unique needs can also play a role in determining the warehouse rates, with customized solutions often requiring more resources and, therefore, higher costs.
Businesses should carefully assess their needs and compare different warehouse options to find the most suitable and cost-effective solution for their storage and logistics requirements.

Usually a human and their daemon are both actors. They are often loud and flashy - auditions are ways for both halves to show off their skills. This is the most common arrangement -- after all, acting is a calling that asks for your heart and your soul.
But sometimes it's just the human or, even more rarely, just the daemon who acts. A human auditions with another person's daemon as their scene partner, a charisma test like you do for a romantic pair. Their own daemon sits curled in a pocket or tastefully out of sight, often in the company of the other daemon's human.
Playwrights don't shy away from writing in daemon touching. After all, it's an evocative tool, another way to characterize without words. The glib-tongued man who lies to everyone whose daemon sits next to him, never quite touching. A composed woman whose daemon sits elegantly on her shoulder in quiet reassurance. Separated lovers who cling to themselves as they cannot hold each other.
It's a well known tell for an audience: if the character and their daemon don't touch onstage, they are two separate actors. After all, who would violate the great taboo for a fiction? Who would allow someone else to touch their soul night after night for a story? But an audience must be generous. The set is no more a garden in Rome than Cesear and his daemon are the same soul, but you suspend your disbelief and when the human actor's hand hovers just above the head of the dog daemon's mane you let your imagination fill in the blanks.
It's a well known secret among actors: if a human and a daemon touch onstage, their respective other halves could very well be just out of sight. Taboos exist to be broken, and what better reason to do so than in the pursuit of art?
Julius Cesear buries his hands into his daemon's fur. Off stage, a golden haired man sits a decorous six inches apart from a parrot. He moves his head into the invisible touch. She flexes a talon into her perch. The audience roars.
Live theater in the His Dark Materials universe must be wild. Surely an actor's daemon also has lines to recite, so their daemon's form probably also factors into casting decisions. Maybe some plays have vague character descriptions for daemons, but I bet other plays have really specific or central daemon characters. And sure, big-budget theaters can afford to hire a separate actor with a particular daemon to stand backstage while their daemon plays its part onstage, but community theaters don't have those kinds of resources.
Like if you're casting for Julius Caesar, surely the real historical Caesar had a pretty iconic daemon, right? Are you going to cast an actor with a pigeon daemon as Caesar and just have everyone suspend their disbelief that it's Caesar's lioness, ἁμαρτία?
