Chapter 6: My Type
You and Bradley were both thankful that you were at a good place again in your friendship. The two of you returned to your previous routine of your Wednesday night hangouts, and the rest of August slipped away into a moment in time. September brought you two closer together as you still danced around the line of friends or something more.
It also brought along Mickey's birthday, and after the way the last party ended, the squad was ready to have a fun night out that didn't end in chaos.
Fanboy had never outgrown his punk rock phase, and for his birthday, he asked that every attend a cover band concert La Jolla. He had gone all out and even rented a party bus to take the group to and from the venue. Unfortunately, you had plans that night and wouldn't be able to attend. You made sure to send him a nice gift, though. Mickey was over the moon when he opened the autograph Star Trek poster and immediately forgave you for missing out on the fun.
Bradley, however, was extremely disappointed in the fact that you weren't coming. He was hoping that tonight would finally be his chance to lay his feelings on the line for you, but instead, he was drinking a beer, sandwiched between Payback and Bob, while Jake and Coyote made use of the stripper poles in the bus.
When they arrived, he couldn't wait to get off and get some fresh air. He had texted you a few times, but you hadn't responded. He checked his phone again to see that his messages were still unread. He sighed in disappointment before tucking his phone away and heading inside with everyone else.
Inside, an EDM DJ was playing some throwback Coldplay while a few techs were setting up for the band. The Daggers found a section near the right side and settled in. They gave their drink orders to a waitress who winked and Mickey when she found out it was his birthday.
Moments later, she returned with drinks and the promise to come back and see if they would need anything later.
With his whiskey in hand, Bradley leaned over to Fanboy and asked, "What's the name of this band again?"
Fanboy rolled his eyes. "The Styx. They do a mix of punk rock, eighties hits, pop, and some original songs. I heard them at a festival about a year and a half ago, and I've seen them a few places here and there. I'm pretty excited to see them again, though. Their lead singer left the band about five months ago to go solo, and apparently, an old friend of the lead guitarist stepped up and has been with them. I haven't heard her, but apparently, she's way better than the old singer." Fanboy explains.
Bradley nods his head and sinks back into his chair as he and everyone else waits for the show to start.
About ten minutes later, the DJ finishes, and some filler music comes through the speakers. The owner of the bar tells everyone that the band will start shortly. More people pour in. Bradley's mind wanders to you, and what you might be doing tonight.
...............
"How's the crowd out there?" You ask Lyla as she checks over her guitar once more. "The energy is fantastic. The place is pretty packed, too." She tells you with a smile.
"Great." You sigh.
A packed house
More people to watch you fail
"Don't worry, babe, you're going to kill it like you always do!" Mariana, the drummer and Lyla's sister, tells you. "Exactly. Just relax, we've got this!" Derrick, the bass player, says to the group. "If anyone boos, I will jump off the stage and shove my keyboard down their throat." Trent, Derrick's husband tells you. You can't help but laugh. You want to say something witty back, but you hear the stage manager start to introduce the group.
You can do this
You love doing this
You're going to be great
You take a deep breath and give yourself a once over in the mirror before stepping out. You look good— really good.
Netted tights cover your legs before disappearing under your cut-off denim shorts that show off your thigh tattoos.
A cropped black vintage Bon Jovi shirt covers your torso. You've cut some of the neck out of the shirt, so the lace of your bralette underneath is visible. Layers of silver chains with charms hug your neck and cleavage. A red flannel is tied around your waist.
Heavy, black, Doc Marten boots are on your feet, and your hair is loose and wild around your face. Sultry dark makeup graces your features, and you've traded your signature cherry red pout for a sensual shade of burgundy.
Rings and bracelets adorned your fingers and wrists. You truly looked the part of a rock queen. You look like sex on legs
Maybe you should pay Bradley a visit after this was over
You were broken from your thoughts by the cheers of the crowd. You took a deep breath as the rest of the group stepped out onto the stage. It was dark, thankfully, you couldn't make any faces out, and they couldn't see you just yet.
You turned to Lyla and the rest of the band who gave you the go-ahead.
..........
The Daggers, especially Fanboy, waited with baited breath as the band set up. Bradley sat there with a fresh glass of whiskey and prayed they were as good as Fanboy had made them out to be. There was nothing worse than sitting through a shitty band.
Soon, the opening sounds of Fallout Boy's "Centuries" filled the room. The band stayed shrouded in dim lights until the opening chorus finished, and then bright lits illuminated the stage.
Fanboy screamed in excitement as he leaned over to say something to Fritz, but Bradley's eyes didn't leave the stage. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. He wasn't drunk. Surely, his mind had to be playing tricks on him.
Just as he was about to say something, it seemed like the entire group came to the realization at the same time.
"Oh my shit." Jake said. "It's that—"
"That's Hades." Bradley said before Jake could finish his question. "Holy shit." Bradley breathed out as he watched you on the stage.
You owned the space. You presses filled the room and demanded the attention of the crowd.
Bradley was captivated by you. He knew that he was attracted to you before. He'd tried so hard to keep his feelings pushed down, and when he kissed you, he knew he'd ruined his chances. But then—then you wanted to be his friend again, and he got the chance to fall for you all over again.
And this time, he fell harder.
Now, there was no denying his attraction for you. As he watched you on that stage, enthralled with your beauty and this new side of you he'd never seen before, Bradley couldn't help but let his mind wander.
The music continues, but now, it's all background noise to Bradley.
He isn't even sure what song you are singing right now. He's too busy watching the way your body moves to the beat and how he's sure you wore that outfit just to mess with him.
He knows that the last part isn't true because surely you didn't know that the Daggers would be here tonight. Fanboy had only asked if you were free tonight. He'd never told you the plans, but in the back of Bradley's mind, he likes to think that you wore that cropped Bon Jovi tee for him and the moment you'd shared months ago.
He watches the hem of your shirt catch on your fingertips as you drag your hands up your body and sway with the music. Bradley hasn't stopped staring at the patch of skin that is just visible between it and the waistband of your jean shorts. He is eager to know what you might have on under it and how it would look on his bedroom floor.
Maybe it was wrong of him to think it, but Bradley didn't care.
Haunting melodies poured from your wine colored lips. They weaved through the crowd and flooded his ears. Bradley was hanging onto every word you sang. His mind wandered as he wondered if his name would sound just as pretty as your songs did when it tumbled from your lips as he brought you to the peak of pleasure.
You were absolutely fearless in the way you put on a show. You worked the room and had everyone captivated. Bradley hoped that one day, he'd be able to find out if you would put on a show just for him in the privacy of his bedroom.
God, you were so fucking beautiful up there. And he knows he probably looks like an absolute ass because he has been ignoring the rest of your friends for almost the entire forty-five minutes you've been on the stage, but he can't help it.
He's so awestruck by you and this part of your life. It's another piece of the puzzle that makes you so unique and so amazing to him.
You're smart, witty, beautiful, funny, and talented on more than one front. Bradley loves that he's learned something new about you.
He wants to learn more new things about you. He wants to add more pieces to the puzzle until he has the whole picture.
He would give anything to spent eternity figuring you out.
You announce the final song of your set list, a rock cover of "Bad Romance," and Bradley finds it ironic because he would take any kind of romance with you. Good or bad.
With this being the last song, you go wild. You release all your inhibitions as you move about the stage and command the room, just like you command the sky.
Bradley has to discreetly adjust himself through his jeans because he gets distracted by the way your necklaces move.
The layers of silver chains of various lengths with charms scattered throughout them hugged your neck in the best way. Bradley didn't realize he could be jealous of a few pieces of jewelry, but as he grips his glass of whiskey tighter, he finds himself longing to replace them with his hands. He just knows that you'd look so fucking beautiful with his long fingers wrapped around your throat while he fucked you like the good girl he knows you would be for him.
Just when he thought you couldn't surprise him anymore, that night, you prove him wrong. When the bridge of the song comes up, you switch to singing in French. French? Since when did you know another language?
Now he wanted to know if you were fluent in it, and if you were, would you talk dirty to him in it. Fuck, you were still a mystery to him, in the best way.
As the song came to an end, you hit your knees for the final high note, and the entire crowd jumped up and screamed for you, the Daggers included. Bradley isn't embarrassed to say that he was definitely the loudest.
After you and the rest of the band thanked everyone for coming out and bidded the audience farewell, Bradley watched you disappear behind a black curtain.
More filler music started up as the squad sat down and looked at each other.
"So, Hades moonlights as a rockstar." Coyote said, breaking the silence of the group.
"Would it be weird if I asked her to get me an autograph from her band mates?" Fanboy asked.
"I don't think so. I just can't believe she didn't tell us." Phoenix said as she finished her beer.
"We all have things that we don't tell everyone about. Maybe she was afraid we'd make fun of her or something. Plus, have you met some of us? A few members of our group aren't the best at respecting other people's feelings." Bob said as he and everyone stared directly at Jake.
"For the last time, I apologized to her! Jeez!" Jake said as he threw his hands up in defense.
.............
Once off the stage, you downed a bottle of water and panted to catch your breath.
"We were amazing tonight!" Derrick cheers as he puts his bass away. "Hades, you killed it with the vocals!" Trent compliments you.
"I'm just glad you didn't have to fight an audience member, I doubt your husband would have bailed you out of jail—again." You needle Trent.
"Oh my gosh, it was one time, and they dropped the charges." Trent huffed.
Lyla and Mariana laugh as they put their things away. "You guys want to get a drink? To celebrate a successful show?" Mariana asks. "Absolutely. Hades, if you keep this up, we might not ever let you go!" Lyla tells you as she slings an arm around your shoulder.
"Lyla, I told you, I'm just helping you our until you can find someone to replace Candice." You tell her.
Lyla shakes her head as the five of you head out of the backstage area and to the bar. You take a seat with your back to the crowd. A few patrons come up and speak to all of you, but none linger too long. You've just put your pomegranate margarita to your lips when you hear a familiar voice call, "Well what do we have here? If it ain't Hades."
You set your drink down and spin on your stool. You're shocked when you turn around and see all twelve of your friends and coworkers standing in front of you.
"Oh my gods, what are you guys doing here?" You ask them.
"This is what I had planned for my birthday." Fanboy tells you.
"Oh, Mick, I had no idea. You should have told me, and I could have gotten you a front row spot!" You tell him.
"You could have told us you were a rockstar." Phoenix says.
You don't have a chance to respond before Lyla says, "Well, aren't you going to introduce us?"
"Oh, sorry. Guys, this is Lyla, we were stationed together in Lemoore a few years ago. She was my wingman until she hung up her wings to be a mechanic. And this is her sister Mariana and Derrick and his husband Trent, and they are The Styx." You say.
"We are The Styx." Lyla corrects you.
After a few polite hellos, you turn to your squadron. "And guys, this is Fanboy, Payback, Halo, Omaha, Bob, Phoenix, Yale, Harvard, Fritz, Coyote, Hangman, and—Bradley." You say as you point out each one of them.
"Bradley—er—Rooster, is my new wingman." You tell your band mates.
"You are a lucky duck to be flying with her." Lyla tells Rooster. "She saved my ass several times."
"Don't let her fool you, Lyla had my back, too." You smile.
"So, Hades, how did you end up doing—this?" Bob asks you, never failing to address the elephant in the room.
"Lyla and I lived together in the barracks. We used to do karaoke on the weekends. She always played a little and decided she wanted to do music more seriously. Unfortunately, Lyla was in a training accident and shattered her left hip." You told them. You wince at that detail. It had been the one time that you weren't flying with her because an admiral had pulled you into a meeting.
"Not too long after Lyla's accident, I was transferred. We kept in touch, and she told me to call her if I was ever back in California." You told them.
"And I couldn't get back in a plane anymore after that, so I took to fixing them and playing guitar in my spare time. At an open mic night, Mariana and I met Derrick and Trent and Candice, our former lead singer. We hit it off, and The Styx was born." Lyla explains.
"But, Candice thought she was too good for us and moved to L.A. five months ago, " Mariana adds.
"Thankfully, Hades just happened to get station in San Diego. So, when she called me to catch up, I convinced her to do a show with us, and that's kind of led us here." Lyla finishes.
"Wow, that's insane." Payback says.
"Yeah, crazy." You shake your head, suddenly feeling on edge now that your work friends new more about your personal life. It wasn't that you were trying to hide this from them, but at the same time, you liked your privacy.
Secrets kept you safe
Bradley could tell that you were getting uncomfortable, so he tapped your knee to get your attention before grabbing your wrist and pulling you away from the crowd.
"You were amazing up there, Angel." He praises you as you tuck yourselves into a corner of the club.
"Thanks, maybe next time, you can join me, and we can hit them with some 'Great Balls of Fire.'" You laugh. Bradley chuckles.
A comfortable silence settles over the two of you. You both look at see the Daggers talking and drinking with your band mates.
"How did all of you get here?" You ask him.
"Fanboy got a party bus. Jake was recreating scenes from Magic Mike on the drive here when he was still half sober, I'm terrified to see what's going to happen on the way back." Bradley shutters.
"I didn't even get to have my drink, so I'm sober. I drove here, wanna ride home with me?" You offer him.
Bradley abso-fucking-lutely wanted to ride home with you. And then, when the two of you got home, he wanted to take you into his apartment, strip you down, and hear you sing for him in a different way. And he wanted you to sleep over so he could make you breakfast the next morning before he fucked you in his shower. However, he couldn't say that to you, so instead, he just said, "Yeah, Angel, that would be great."
The two of you quietly snuck out the back of the club. You had grabbed your things already. You made it to the car before Bradley, but instead of opening your door, you stood there, subconsciously waiting for him to do it. He smiled and opened the door and helped you in.
The drive back to San Diego was filled with playful banter, more singing, and flirty touches.
.............
Once you were back at your apartment complex, Bradley made sure to walk you to your door.
You wanted to invite him in, but it was late, and you were still high on adrenaline from performing, and you didn't trust yourself not to drag him to your bed. If you were going to do this with him, you were going to do it the right way.
So, you settled for a simple goodnight kiss on his cheek before tucking yourself inside your home.
After he said goodbye to you at your apartment door, Bradley bolted upstairs to his.
Tonight, he's thankful that he is your upstairs neighbor and that he has a corner unit where his bedroom doesn't share a wall with anyone.
Why? Because of the way your name sinfully falls from his lips while he touches himself and selfishly chases his release.
He's been hard for you all evening, and your flirty touches in your car on the ride home coupled with the way your soft lips felt on his cheek had him spiraling as he fists his cock.
He cums hard, spurts of it painting his hand and abs with hot white streaks. As he comes down from his high and cleans himself up, Bradley can't help but think about how his cum would look splattered on your thigh tattoo or dripping out of you. He groans, already hardening at the thought of it.
After quelling the fires of his desire with a cold shower, Bradley slips between the sheets of his bed and thinks of you and how he could make the two of you something more.

Show Me Yours | Matty Healy [38]
chapter thirty-eight, act five: the ballad of me and my brain
masterlist
June 3rd 2017
The little sparkly silver birthday hat sits crooked on Tommie’s head, her freshly cut short hair in a mess and her bangs are fluffed out of control. There’s silver sparkles on her forehead, catching the light alongside the beads of sweat on her forehead.
She’s wearing her beat up skeleton cowboy boots, a pair of shorts and a new sparkly waistcoat George got her for her birthday.
Her cheeks are flushed but her tipsy smile drops when the door finally swings open, “Matt?”
“Finally!” He complains, pushing his way into the house Adam had rented in Ohio for her birthday, where her surprise birthday party was being held, “Where’s Adam?”
“Um, kitchen, I think….”
He nods, not saying much else, her eyes focus on the burnt out joint he’d dropped and she steps on it quickly before following him inside.
“You’re late.” Carly says, back of her hand hitting Matty’s shoulder as he grabs a glass to fill it with water, tipping it all down himself as he starts downing it. His white
“Late to what,” He looks around leaning against the kitchen counter, “Why’s there so many people in the house right now?”
Carly steps back, then she reaches forward, hand grasping his chin as she opens up his eyes, “Are you high right now?”
“Just on weed.”
She shakes her head and pushes him to the side, “Are you serious?”
“It’s just weed, Carly, calm down. Where’s Adam?”
“Upstairs, I think, getting Tommie’s bir-”
“Great, cheers.” He says before heading for the stairs, almost hitting Tommie over as he passes her.
She leans back so he can pass, brows raised as she meets Carly in the kitchen, “What’s he doing here?”
She crosses her arms and looks back at the door as Carly sighs slowly, “He was supposed to be here hours ago.”
Her head snaps to Carly, her hat falling off her head, being caught by the string which makes it hand around her neck, “You invited him?”
Carly reaches out to fix the hat, brushing her bangs down and then fixing her hair, “Adam invited him. Like two weeks ago ‘cause he was moping around.”
Tommie picks at the skin on her fingernails and sighs, she leans back against the counter with her arms crossed, staring into space and hoping Matty will stay away from her.
The past few months since the Brits have been hell, touring around but feeling completely alone. Of course she had the guys, but only Ross knew what had happened that night, and even he didn’t know everything.
Caleb has stayed away, they’ve been in the same room maybe once since it happened, Gabby had come to tour but she and Matty had gotten hotel rooms and travelled separately leaving the others on the bus.
That’s when Tommie felt like she could breathe again, one less person made the metal container much more bearable to be in.
And now, on this night dedicated to her- something she would’ve hated four years ago if it wasn’t for Matty building up her birthday tolerance- she’d felt the happiest she’d been in months, maybe even years.
With Carly following her around with extra drinks and Adam giving her a slice of pizza every time her hand was empty.
Even Button had been making her feel special by cleaning up her own toys (she didn’t want any of the strangers to steal them so she hid them in different places around the house).
There’s not too many people here, the band and their girlfriends, Jamie and his missus, Denise and Louis had flown over too, some tour helpers and a few other people. Phoebe had sent about ten thousand messages apologising that she couldn’t make it after receiving an invite from Adam.
There’s no Caleb, no Gabby. And until now there had been no Matty.
She sips from her drink again and Carly leans forward to adjust the party hat on her head when it starts slipping again, “Just ignore him, he’s come to see Adam, will probably leave after that.”
She nods with a quiet sigh but quickly smiles when Rome calls her over to ask about one of the presents she’d received.
It’s much later when Matty returns, she hadn’t even realised he’d come back downstairs but a loud racket from the kitchen only she seems to hear has her coming face to face with him.
There’s around three or four smashed glasses on the floor, Matty’s left hand is cut to pieces but he doesn’t seem to mind as he continues to fix himself a drink.
“Matt?”
He looks up, eyes squinting as he leans towards her to see who it is better, “Oh, hey.”
“Oh, hey?”
“Hello, Thomas, such a fine night tisn’t it?”
She rolls her eyes at his sarcasm and leaves the kitchen to head for the bathroom upstairs where Adam had made very clear to everyone is the place he’d stored the first aid kit that they usually keep tucked away on the bus. He’d made the purchase a few shows back when George had cut his finger when trying to make dinner as the bus was moving.
When she returns he’s sipping from the glass and she shakes her head asking him to come with her, “Why?”
“Just… please?”
That’s all it takes, he’s following her into the quiet hallway, and down the little steps out to the porch.
He has many things on the tip of his tongue ready to say but keeps his mouth shut when she forces him to sit.
She sits beside him and wipes the blood from his palm carefully, he winces, the pain sobering him up as he takes his hand away from her.
“I need to get the glass out.”
“How’d that happen?” His brows are furrowed and he’s leaning against her to stay upright.
“I don’t know.”
He winces again and she pulls his hand a little more harshly, “Stop babying me.”
“Stop being a baby.”
He huffs and she holds his hand up when it’s all cleaned up, “I told Gabby I wouldn’t talk to you.”
“Gabby doesn’t want you to talk to me?”
“No, Gabby said we’re bandmates and we have to talk to work well. But I don’t want to talk to you.”
She slides away a little, turning her head to look forward, “Does Caleb let you speak to me?”
“I haven’t spoken to Caleb in four months.”
“You broke up?”
“No.”
“What happened?”
She sighs and shakes her head at him, “You’re all cleaned up, can go finish your drink now.”
“What happened?”
She just looks at him, the party hat crooked and tears in her eyes catching the light reaching them from the kitchen window, reflecting the sparkles on her hat, “Oh…”
She nods as he suddenly realises, but he stands and heads for the door, but she can’t help it. Can’t help asking, reaching out.
“Why, Matt? Why’d you have to ruin it for me?”
“You were miserable.” He shrugs.
“Did you think it would make me happy?” She scoffs, “This life I have now. I’m in some kind of- of limbo with my relationship. With Gabby, with you.”
He shrugs and scuffs his shoes against the pavement, “Exactly, you don’t think Matty, only think about yourself.”
“That’s not true-”
“Not true? Look what’s happened, you’re still with Gabby, still got the guys cause they don’t know what’s happened, you’re fine. I lost my boyfriend, my best friend, Gabby…”
He shrugs again and she shakes her head one of the tears finally falling, “I’m sorry.” He decides to say, not looking at her, he can’t look at her.
“For what?”
“That you’re in love with me.”
She raises a brow, but then they furrow. And if he’d just look at her he’d see that face he hates seeing. The one that shows her confusion and sadness at the same time, the one that has tears in her eyes and a frown on her lips.
“Cause I’m not in love with you.” He tells her. “I can’t be in love with you now.” He clarifies.
She finds herself holding her breath as he stands, “Why not?”
“I- I can’t.”
She stands in front of him now, party hat long forgotten as she rips it from her head and clutches it in one hand. Giving her something to hold onto, something to hold her back. “Am I that bad? What’s wrong with me, Matty? What’s so wrong with me you can get it up but you can’t fall in love?”
He opens his mouth and then closes it.
It’s not that he’s not in love with her, it’s that he won’t let himself be in love with her.
Of course he’s in love with her, he always has been. But he’ll ruin her, he doesn’t want to ruin her. He wants to get it right, to be sober and love her every second, to spoil her and wake her up with a smile on her face. To have Allen and Button run around together in a garden of their own house, a house they’ll buy and move into together.
But they can’t have that.
He can’t give her the life he wants her to have, he knows Caleb won’t either, which is why he worked so hard to split them up. He’ll agree he went about it all wrong but he just wants her to find someone good, who can give her everything he wants to give her and more.
But at the same time he doesn’t want her to find that if it’s not with him. It’s why he worked so hard to sabotage her and Caleb’s relationship.
“Go back to the stupid party,” He tells her, “Find another friend of Adam’s to fall in love with.”
She stands, speaking before he disappears down the pathway, “Do you know what this stupid party’s for, Matt?”
He shrugs, kicking at the floor which causes him to lose his balance for a few seconds. He stumbles, and she clutches the party hat even tighter not to reach out and steady him.
She’s tired of being the one to steady him.
“It’s my birthday.”
He stays silent, still not looking at her, “Twenty-three today.”
Still he says nothing, so she goes on to fill the silence. It’s never silent between them. Usually it’s filled with their shared laughter, or calm breaths or skipped beats of the heart.
“You know, coincidentally, that’s the age you were when everything between us started going to shit.”
“Tom-”
“It’s the truth, we haven’t been us, Matty and Tommie, for a very long time. And- I’m tired of trying for us to be that way.”
“We’re fine, perfect….”
“We haven’t talked since February, Matt. We’ve been on tour for almost five months now, and haven't said a word to each other…”
“I fucked up, I know that-”
“Yeah, you did. We both did.” She admits, “But I can’t-” She shakes her head, “I don't like feeling this way.”
“I’m sorry, I’ll try harder-”
“That’s not what I’m saying, Ma-”
“Then what are you saying? I never know what you’re trying to say. So just say it. Outright, fucking say it.”
“I hate that I’m in love with you.”
The door behind them opens, Adam pops his head out, “More pizza’s here.”
She keeps staring at Matty, he looks back up at her, Adam doesn’t move.
“Happy Birthday, Baby.” He says simply.
She nods, watching him turn, hands shoved in his jacket pocket as he heads out into the street, head ducked to protect himself from the rain and disappears from their view.
She tosses the hat away from her and sits on the steps of the house, arms wrapped around herself as she watches the hat get washed away down the street in the rain.
Adam sighs, “Come on inside, it’s raining.”
She shakes her head, lighting a cigarette from in the pocket of her shorts and staring out into the street, “What’s going on?” Adam asks after he’s sat beside her on the greying steps.
She shakes her head but he nudges her, “Come on, put that big smile back on your face. I’ve missed it.”
“I’m lonely,” She says, arms wrapped around herself, a fresh cigarette in her mouth. Adam looks at the ashtray beside her, there’s fourteen cigarettes in there, and he hopes to God that it hasn’t been cleaned out for a few days. But they’ve only been here for a day, he hopes there’s a few other smokers here, but she and George are the only two that he's seen disappeared for a smoke tonight.
“I can’t sleep.” She says again, taking a deeper drag, “I think I’m depressed,” She tells him, “Or Autistic.”
“Oh, you’re definitely Autistic.” Adam says and she cracks a little smile as she looks down. “You can be both. Have you… talked to anyone about it?”
She shrugs, “Like who? Caleb?” She scoffs, “Haven't seen him since February, he’s avoiding me.”
“Why?”
“Cause he knows I’m going to break up with him,” She sighs, “Matty was right…”
“Wow, never thought I’d hear you of all people admit to Matthew Healy being right.”
She chuckles, but it turns into a weird strangled sob as her entire face contorts and she starts crying, leaning her head onto Adam’s shoulder.
“I hate him.” Adam’s not sure who she’s talking about, Matty or Caleb at this point.
“He- I hate him. Can’t stand him. He makes me hate myself… and he’s so… so American-” Caleb then, “And condescending, he has to correct the way I talk and makes me feel stupid around his friends, and I…”
“Break up with him then.”
“I can’t do it over the phone-”
“Email?”
She chuckles again, rubbing at her nose harshly, “I can’t do that. It would break me if it happened to me-”
“He knows that, that’s why he’s avoiding you.”
“You know, the end approached us before the beginning.” She says.
He readjusts his grip, pulling her back a bit so the rain won;t hit her legs, “Why did you start dating him?”
“He listened to me… and I don't know, I felt like it was a way to distract me I guess…”
“From what?” She breathes in, chest stuttering, she considers telling him. She thinks over how it will go, how she will say it, how he will react, their relationship once it’s revealed.
‘I slept with Matty, the day before I saw Caleb… we fell out over it so I went on a date with him to get back at Matty, make him feel the way he made me feel.’
‘You slept with my best friend? Are you serious? What’s wrong with-’
“Life…”
He hums, “Not to make Matty jealous?”
She looks up at him slowly, “Why would I do that?”
He chuckles, “I’m not stupid, Tommie, or blind. I know everything-”
She turns to the door in realisation of her loose mouthed best friend, “Ross! I’m gonna kill him, he told you-”
“Everything.”
She winces, head ducking down as she closes her eyes, “Ads-”
He shrugs, “You can talk to me about that kind of stuff you know-” He is quick to jump in and correct himself, “Not sex stuff… Please don’t tell me about that.”
She giggles a little, sniffling with a nod, “Okay… not even about how he-”
He unravels his arms to plug his ears and she laughs again.
He grins at the fact he got her to smile again, he pulls her into his side, kissing the top of her head, “Break up with Caleb, focus on yourself, don’t worry about Matty or the band right now. Take time off if you need it-”
She shakes her head, “I’m not quitting the band.”
“It’s not quitting, more like taking a break. No one will know, we’ll say you’re ill or something.”
She shakes her head, “I’m not leaving, not taking a break. I’m fine.”
“Don’t push yourself.”
“It’s not a push, more of a slow drag.” She says which has him laughing again as he shakes her a little.
“Promise me if it gets too much you’ll just stop. Go home, have time to yourself. I’ll come with you if you need it.”
She nods, lifting her hand and they link pinky fingers, “I will, Ads, don’t worry.”
“I always worry.”

Taylor & Travis Timeline
December 2023 - part 2
December 10 - Chiefs v Buffalo Bills, Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City.
Travis Kelce arriving ahead of game
Taylor flies into Kansas City to attend the Chiefs game with her cousins, Travis' cousins & friends at Arrowhead Stadium
Travis made a brilliant play contributing to a touch down but was denied due to a team mates penalty.
During the game, NFL announcer and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo referred to her as "Travis' wife" while on the air with announcing partner Jim Nantz.
"As you see, Kelce's wife, Taylor Swift, in the audience," Romo pointed out, quickly correcting himself and saying, "I'm sorry -- girlfriend."
"Not yet," Nantz said in response.
Chiefs were defeated 17 - 20.
Taylor and Travis leave the stadium together
Taylor and Travis together with team mates, coaches friends and family gather at Miracle Pop Up Bar
Travis' barber shares a photo of Taylor and Travis (x)
Lots of photos emerge from the party with Taylor and travis taking photos with friends - these have been cropped...
December 11 - Taylor is nominated for a Golden Globe for The Eras tour movie.
USA Today reports that Taylor has donated $1 million to a Tennessee tornado relief Fund (x) after a Tornado ravaged the state on Saturday 9 Dec.
ET article (x)
According to Cheterah Jackson, a Columbus, Ohio-based real estate agent and friend of Travis', the couple rented a luxury bus to transport their group and reserved the Christmas bar in downtown Kansas City for friends and family.
Jackson tells ET, "My boyfriend Calvin Locke... is Travis' friend and has known him since the 7th grade. We were in the suite at the game, which was filled with family and friends."
"Taylor is an absolute sweetheart. She is very down-to-earth and kind."
"Taylor and Travis are so in love. It was so cute seeing them together and I can see them getting married"
December 12 - Taylor returns to NYC. Pictured with Miles & Keleigh Teller
December 13 - New Heights Ep. 68 airs (x 5:05)
Jason and Travis limit talking about Taylor although when the brothers chat about the No.1 & No.2 sales of NFL jerseys in the UK, they give credit to Swifties for helping with the success of topping the sales and Travis gives a "shout out to Kylie and Taylor." Travis suggests that perhaps they could "find our way over there this off season and say hello to everyone in person" and record a live show in the UK. Jason replies "we also got an opportunity to do one in Australia - we could make it a world tour"
Any one know of an international pop star who may be touring in the UK and Australia in 2024 that coincides with the NFL off season? Are the Kelce brothers hinting that Travis and perhaps Jason will join Taylor on tour next year? It should be noted that Patrick Mahomes has also raised the idea of possibly catching the Era's Tour in Europe in the off season too...
The boys answer "No Dumb Questions" from handle "metal-as-hell", a reference to Taylor's TIME article calling Travis "metal as hell" when he publicly declared his interest in dating Taylor.
Taylor Swift's 34th Birthday - Taylor heads to Banzarbar, NYC with friends to celebrate her birthday into the early hours of the morning - Happy Birthday Taylor! The paps even broke out into song to sing Taylor "Happy Birthday". Note Travis remained in KC with commitments to the Chiefs. This was expected.
December 14 - Taylor and friends share photos from the birthday celebration the evening before (x)
instagram
December 15 - Taylor is named Billboard's No.1 Greatest Pop Star (x)
It didn’t seem possible that anyone could have a year this dominant: not this deep into the streaming era, not this long after the oft-proclaimed death of the monoculture, not when the entire industry seems to be in crisis over how to capture and hold onto listener attention. It was a year not to be judged against Swift’s 2023 peers, but against the entirety of modern pop history.
There is no wasted potential with Taylor Swift, no what ifs – the chance was there for her to have one of the greatest years any pop star has ever had, and you know that she grabbed it. Taylor was here. No one who was around for her 2023 will ever forget it.
With reference to Taylor's relationship with Travis, Billboard's Andrew Unterberger says:
... rumors were beginning to swirl about her and Kelce. The Chiefs star had become increasingly coy in his comments about the pop icon, saying he’d invited her to come see him play a home game (after he’d seen her Eras show in Kansas City that July). She did indeed do just that on the September 24th, with her presence at Arrowhead sending both the worlds of sports and pop culture into a frenzy, and leading to numerous posts and videos of non-football-conversant Swifties sharing the sport’s rules with one another, so they could better understand what was happening in between the shots of their hero in a private box with Kelce’s mom Donna. From then on, every Sunday (and a couple Mondays and Thursdays) of 2023 was overtaken with Taylor talk: Would she be showing up at the Chiefs’ next game? What other celebrities would she be attending with? What kind of Kelce swag would she be wearing, and what would that mean about their relationship? What do you mean Kansas City is on a bye week? While Swift’s short relationship with Healy was extremely controversial to Swifties and her long relationship with Alwyn was largely uninteresting to everyone else, her love story with Kelce – a well-liked, unproblematic figure, a Super Bowl-winning superstar as an athlete with enough of a Q rating as a celebrity to host SNL – was universally accessible, and found near-100% public approval. You didn’t need deep grounding in Swift Lore to understand the relationship, because it just felt right: the All-American athlete dating the All-American pop star.

matty planning all her birthday party's and staying up all night setting up and always trying to make it even better than the year before :((
After her first birthday, he realises that she is going to start remembering her birthdays soon so he throws as much effort into them as possible. On the morning of, he wakes her up with pancakes, and hot chocolate, and presents and has a plastic crown of some sort ready to crown her the birthday queen.
Gigi's birthday's look different every year depending on what you are doing and whether it falls on a school day. Matty makes sure she is with him on that day regardless. You're always with her too. Non negotiable. Both parents are there for birthdays. Sometimes for her birthday she wakes up at home. Sometimes on a tour bus.
If you're at home she will have a party with all her friends from school. One year you take them to lazar tag and you have to tell Matty to calm down because he plays with the kids and destroys them, and he says "It's character building. They have to learn they can't always win." One time he rents out a hall and you have a disco. One time you go bowling. One of your favourite memories in the world is watching Matty walk around the bowling alley with a line of six year olds behind him like the fucking pied piper. All of Gigi's friends think he is the coolest because he is in a band and he lets her swear.
If you're on the road, you have a little party just the three of you and the band and crew. Everyone makes Gigi feel special. Ross bows down to her as the birthday queen. George teaches her how to drum Happy Birthday. Adam buys her books and then reads them with her after all the excitement has died down.
Usually the three of you will try and sneak away for a dinner or a trip out, around Matty's work, and these days are what Gigi ends up remembering the most. Just the three of you in a restaurant with steamy windows, birthday crown lopsided on her head or having made it's way onto Matty's curls, all of you laughing until you can't breathe.

You Know They're Engaged, Right? - Chapter One
A/N - Hey guys, this is an updated version of Chapter One as I had to make some edits to the plot. Hope you guys enjoy! Comment a 🌻to be added to the tag list.
Masterlist
Kate Sharma’s classroom was a mess.
She had planned a makeshift art session for her Year 9 students to help them become motivated to learn about The Great Gatsby but it had gotten increasingly out of hand. First, one of her students had squeezed a paint bottle too hard, meaning blue paint had splattered all over the table and onto her carpet. Then, she’d made the mistake of having glitter as an option, resulting in the floor being covered.
She groaned at the sight and started loading art supplies onto the trolley she had borrowed, deciding she couldn’t leave the mess for the cleaners to sort out. A knock sounded on her door as she grabbed the last paint bottle, turning to see the Head of Art glaring at her.
“What are you doing here so late, Miss Sharma?” He questioned, leaning against the door frame. She scowled and checked the clock, noting that it had only been 15 minutes since school had ended.
“If this is your definition of late, Ben, you have some serious explaining to do. And aren’t you meant to be on bus duty anyway?” She quipped, returning the paint bottles to the tray.
“Not today, I got Dorset to take over as I took his shift on Wednesday. And I’ll have you know that I am very good at being on time.”
“Uh-huh. Then who was in my house this morning looking for his ‘lucky pencil’ until quarter-past eight?”
“First of all, it’s our house according to the rent I pay every month, and second of all, it isn’t my lucky pencil…it’s just the best one for me to use. And we were on time, so technically this morning doesn’t count.”
“Ben, I’ve had to wake you up every morning this week…and I’m running out of things to throw at you.”
“In my defence, alarms are way too quiet.” Benedict chuckled, raising his hands in surrender as a polishing cloth flew his way. “And you throwing pillows at me is guaranteed to wake me up.” Grabbing the polishing cloth, he started cleaning the table near him. “You do know that the school hires people to clean the classrooms, right?”
“Yes I know. I just feel really guilty leaving a mess. It’s not their fault my Year Nines got overzealous with the glitter.” Kate grimaced, peering around at the classroom.
“On any other day, I would stay behind and clean with you, but-” Benedict started, eying the clock anxiously.
“Why are you so anxious to leave all of a sudden? It’s not like we have plans.” Benedict’s fidgeting paused at this, a guilty look crossing his face.
“Benedict Bridgerton, what are you hiding from me?”
“Nothing. Nothing at all.” Kate raised an eyebrow in response and turned to face him, crossing her arms in the process.
“Fine. You know how you said you didn’t want to celebrate your birthday this year?”
“Oh no, Ben. What did you do?” Kate groaned.
“I didn’t do anything. I told my mum that you weren’t planning on celebrating and that me, you and Sophie were just going to have a quiet meal in.”
“…And?”
“And…the party’s at 5,” Benedict admitted in defeat, staring at Kate warily. She looked at him for a moment and sighed, dropping the polishing cloth back on to her desk. “Look, I promise I will make it up to you,” he pleaded with her.
“You better.”
Kate Sharma (4.24 pm) - Please tell me you are attending this thing tonight?
Simon Bassett (4.30 pm) - What thing?
Kate Sharma (4.31 pm) - The thing at Violet’s
Kate Sharma (4.31 pm) - For my birthday???
Simon Bassett (4.32 pm) - …How do you know about that??
Kate Sharma (4.32 pm)- I live with Benedict
Simon Bassett (4.33 pm) - Fair enough.
Simon Bassett (4.33 pm) - And yes, I will be attending.
Simon Bassett (4.33 pm) - Won’t you be with Ben anyway?
Kate Sharma (4.34 pm) - Yeah, but he’ll be with Sophie.
Kate Sharma - (4.34 pm) And I’ll be alone.
Kate Sharma (4.34 pm)- At Bridgerton House.
Simon Bassett (4.34 pm)- …
Simon Bassett (4.34 pm) - I thought you liked Bridgerton House?
Kate Sharma (4.35 pm) - I do, but this birthday is just a reminder to my mother that I'm still single.
Kate Sharma (4.35 pm) - Which will lead to a blind date with one of her friends' sons
Kate Sharma (4.35 pm) - And you know how well that went last time
Simon Bassett (4.34 pm)- He wasn't the worst date you've been set up on
Simon Bassett (4.35 pm) - Remember Berbrooke
Kate Sharma (4.36 pm) - Unfortunately
Kate Sharma (4.36 pm) - I've got to go. Sophie's just arrived and I need to steal her away before Ben gets to her.
Kate Sharma (4.36 pm) - See you tonight.
Simon Bassett (4.37 pm) - See you tonight.
Bridgerton House was familiar to Kate, she had spent most of her summers away from University looking after the younger Bridgertons whilst her mother and Mrs Bridgerton mourned their respective husbands. But standing in front of it on her 29th birthday, it loomed over her - its presence bringing back forgotten memories.
Benedict and Sophie entered first, allowing Kate to take a moment before she joined them in the hallway. She let out a breath as she entered, observing that the ‘party’ Violet had thrown for her consisted of her mother and sister, nearly all of the Bridgertons, Penelope Featherington and Simon Bassett.
“Happy Birthday!” They called out, causing Kate to chuckle softly. Mary and Edwina were first to hug Kate with Simon following behind them. He offered her his arm, leading her into the living room.
“Happy birthday,” he whispered as they passed the Bridgerton family. “You look very nice tonight.”
“Why thank you,” she blushed, “I’m glad you made it. I need at least one sane person with me tonight.”
“I couldn’t miss one of my oldest friend’s birthdays, could I? Especially not one as special as this.” He commented slyly, raising his eyebrows at her.
“Simon, I’m turning 29…I’m not sure it’s that special.”
“We shall see,” Her friend smirked, quirking an eyebrow, “speaking of oldest friends, a certain Bridgerton wanted me to pass on his apologies that he couldn’t make it. He did promise that he’d try and pop in if he could. Why he couldn’t tell you this over text alludes me.”
“You know how Anthony is with technology. I just managed to persuade him to download WhatsApp for a group chat. Initiating texts is a long way off.” Kate laughed, taking the seat Simon guided her to, observing the room around her. The furniture in the living room had been pushed into the middle to make a small circle around the coffee table, presents stacked precariously around it. As everyone filtered into the room taking their seats, Kate smiled softly. Whilst she didn’t normally like to celebrate her birthday, she appreciated the thought that went into the celebration, knowing that her friends would have needed to stop Violet from throwing another birthday ball.
Kate got through her presents quickly, her friends and family eager to see her reaction. She received a perfume and recipe book from Mary, jewellery from Edwina, paints from Sophie, books from Eloise, bourbon from Simon and a homemade card and cake from Hyacinth and Gregory. Thanking all of her friends, she placed her presents in a neat pile next to her before hearing a small shuffle from the other room. Benedict entered a few moments later, having disappeared at some point, with a medium cardboard box in his arms.
“Kate,” he began, “this gift is from all of us. We know that it’s something you’ve wanted for a while now and we hope you like it.”
She looked at him confused as he settled the box down in front of her, opening the lid.
Kate was in love.
In front of her was a corgi puppy, a purple collar around its neck.
“Ben, you didn’t.” She breathed, holding out a tentative hand to the small dog.
“His name is Newton- but you can change it- and he’s yours.”
“Ben!” She squealed, carefully picking up the puppy. “This is the best gift ever.”
“I wouldn’t be so sure of that.” A voice sounded from across the room. Everyone turned to see Anthony leaning against the door frame, a small piece of paper in his hand. “Happy Birthday, Kate.”
“Thank you. I thought you couldn’t make it,” Kate queried, standing to greet Anthony with a small hug, Newton still in her arms.
“I managed to get someone to cover for me. Something important came up,” Anthony answered, returning the hug stiffly before taking a small step away. “Speaking of, can I speak to you? In the kitchen?” He asked quietly, aware of his families’ eyes on him. Kate nodded and passed the corgi to Benedict, excusing herself from the living room. Anthony then turned to Simon and jerked his head towards the kitchen, motioning for the other man to follow him.
When the trio were alone in the kitchen, Anthony placed a napkin on the counter in front of him.
“Would someone explain why I found this on my desk this afternoon?” He asked calmly, pushing the napkin across to Kate and Simon. The duo exchanged a confused look before peering at the napkin.
“‘This contract states that…’” Kate trailed off in horror, glancing up at Anthony, “this is a joke, right?” At Anthony’s silence, she turned to face Simon, paling at the grimace on his face. “Simon?!”
“It’s not a joke, Kate,” Simon answered quietly, pulling the napkin closer to him, “I wish it was but I remember this contract. If neither of you get married by Kate’s next birthday, you’ll marry each other. Basically…you and Anthony are engaged.”

Dr. Daredevil (Jay Park AU)
Chaeyeon
The first time Park Jaebeom and I met was in med school.
I knew exactly who he was, even though I pretended to not care about him. Every girl on campus wanted to date him and every guy wanted to be him.
As the chairman’s only grandson he was bound to inherit his family’s fortune one day. Of course he didn’t have to study or get good grades. Since birth, everything was handed to him on a silver platter.
I, on the other hand, needed to do well. Every day. My life depended on it.
“Have you heard? Park Jaebeom is throwing a party for his birthday.” My best friend, Soojung, casually said while joining me in the cafeteria.
“No. Why would I?”
It was a lie. I knew exactly that Jaebeom’s birthday was approaching.
“I also heard he’s handing out invitations.”
Soojung plopped down next to me, meticulously unwrapping her sandwich.
“Surely he’ll only invite the cool kids.” I countered soberly.
“For once I’d like you to have some confidence!” She said, looking straight at me. I could tell my comment hurt her, even though she knew herself that we weren’t part of the cool crowd. Ever.
“I’m sorry! I hope you get an invitation.”
“I hope we’ll both get one.” She countered back.
I side-eyed her and focused back on my book.
When my last class ended, I gathered my stuff and walked out with quick steps so I wouldn’t miss my bus.
“Chaeyeon, wait! I have something to ask you.” Someone called after me while I ran down the stairs. I didn’t need to turn around to know who the voice belonged to.
The people around me stopped and stared, waiting to see what would happen.
I wonder why Park Jaebeom needs to speak to the biggest nerd on the entire campus?
“My birthday’s this Saturday. Here! I brought you an invitation.”
I cocked my eyebrow at him, trying to figure out if there was a motive behind his weird behavior. Only too late did I noticed that the time had passed and my bus had left without me. Again.
“Great! Now I missed my bus!”
“I’ll drive you home!”
I wanted to decline, but would have to wait another hour for the next bus, so I begrudgingly agreed.
“How’s your paper coming along?”
My paper? Oh! At least now I know why he offered to take me home.
When I remained silent, Jaebeom cleared his throat before speaking again.
“The old man is giving me a hard time, saying I need to do better.”
“He’s not wrong, you know. After all, you’re studying to become a doctor.”
Once more I got the feeling it wasn’t his choice to go to med school. It seemed that he was pressured to go and didn’t really understand the severity of his situation. But I also knew that it didn’t really matter if he studied and did well or not. In the end he would graduate on top of his class. His grandfather would make sure of that.
“So? Are you coming to the party?”
“I don’t know.”
“You need to live a little!” He said when we stopped and locked eyes at a red light.
He sounded like my mother which made me chuckle.
“We’ll see!”
We remained silent until Jaebeom stopped in front of my apartment building where I was renting a tiny one-room apartment.
“The party starts at 7!”
I smiled faintly and nodded, silently thanking him for the ride.

Against my will I had put on a dress and high heels and makeup, feeling more uncomfortable than on my first day in college.
“Smile! You look like you’re in actual pain!” Soojung sneered next to me as we walked up the driveway of Jaebeom’s huge mansion.
“I am!” I blurted out, giving my friend the side eye. “Remember our agreement! No alcohol and we’re only staying for an hour.”
“Yeah, yeah. I got it, mother.” She mocked back, rolling her eyes.
As soon as I entered, I wanted to turn around on the spot and leave. The music was too loud, people were already too drunk and I felt like I was suffocating. Random people were handing me questionable drinks in red solo cups which I firmly rejected.
I found an empty spot in a corner and stood there, leaning back against the wall, checking my watch every five minutes. Soojung had already disappeared in the masses, only her loud squeals could be heard and from time to time I would spot her small frame amidst the people, dancing.
The air in the room changed when Park Jaebeom joined the crowd. His eyes scanned the room until they landed on me. He grinned as he made his way to where I was plastered against the wall. A literal wallflower. Frantically, I looked for an escape route but I had successfully trapped myself.
“Nice to see you made it!”
I snorted, raising an eyebrow, eyeing him suspiciously.
“Let’s go somewhere quieter. I have something to ask you.” He said, casually grabbing my arm, leading me through the crowd. My head whipped around constantly trying to see if anyone paid attention to us. But people were too preoccupied and too drunk to care.
On the staircase, leading up to the bedrooms, I put my heels down making Jaebeom stop abruptly.
“It’s quiet enough here. What do you have to say?”
Despite trying my best to sound cool and unaffected, Jaebeom realized he was having an effect on me. Smiling mischievously, he inched closer, casually leaning against the wall behind me, trapping me between it and his body.
“I heard you’re the smartest student in our class.”
“You heard right!” I replied cockily. “Why are you asking?”
“I’m sure you heard that there’s going to be a group project soon. I think we should be in a team, you and I.”
I snorted lightly. The chairman’s grandson was a sly fox. Of course he wouldn’t actually sit his ass down and study. I wondered if his grandfather knew about it.
“It seems like only you would benefit from such a deal.”
“That’s not true.” He said. “Your popularity would skyrocket.”
“I’m not sure I want that.” I replied again, still unwilling to look at him. The smell of his perfume was intoxicating, confusing my senses momentarily, clouding my judgment.
“Think about it, it could actually be fun. Oh, and if you still need an incentive, I would even be willing to pay.”
At that I raised my head. Did he just offer me money because he didn’t know how else to persuade me or was he actually aware of my financial situation?
My parents back home worked themselves to the bone, so her only daughter could study medicine in Seoul. Of course money was tight.
“I’ll think about it.” I eventually said, just to get him off my back. He was standing dangerously close to me, constantly licking his lips, his eyes piercing through mine.
Suddenly I felt incredibly hot and in a desperate attempt to escape his piercing glare, I slipped under his arm and sprinted outside. The fresh air was a welcoming change and I fished out my phone from my purse, calling Soojung with trembling hands.
“I wanna go!”
“But it hasn’t been an hour yet!” She yelled into her phone.
“Then I’m leaving by myself.” I had no intentions to stay and run into Jaebeom again. And the likelihood of that happening was big.
“Fine. Give me a minute. I’ll be out soon.”
I kept the fact that I worked with Jaebeom a secret. Especially since Soojung had become obsessed with him after being at his party. In the end it was just his name I would put next to mine when I submitted the paper. No big deal.
The two of us would meet after school at his house. There would be snacks and fruits on the table and classical music would play in the background.
At first I thought it was funny, thinking Jaebeom did all of that to impress me. But as I visited his house more often I realized that others were setting the mood. In the end I pitied him. Clearly he felt uncomfortable but had to play his part, whether he liked it or not.
“Urgh, my brain hurts! I need a break.” He announced dramatically, shutting the books in front of him.
I wanted to correct him by saying that the brain can’t feel pain but let him be. Instead I followed him upstairs because I felt uncomfortable being left alone in this huge mansion.
Too late I realized he was heading straight into his bedroom. And likewise, he only noticed I had been following him when he closed the door.
“I’m sorry, I-” I muttered but the words got stuck in my throat.
“It’s okay.”
Nervously, I checked the time on my phone, my brain working in overtime to come up with an excuse to leave.
“No, you’re right. We studied nonstop for hours. I think it’s enough for today. I better go now.”
Before I could get to the door, he sneaked off behind me, blocking the exit.
“Chaeyeon, the brain can’t feel pain. I thought you knew that! After all, you’re supposed to be the smart one in this room.”
I chuckled, realizing that I walked right into Jaebeom’s trap. He smiled before he peeled his back off the door, taking a step in my direction. Then another. And another.
“You don’t have a boyfriend, do you?” The question took me by surprise, and for a second I debated on how to answer it wisely. But then I remembered who I was talking to.
“Did you ever have a boyfriend?” He asked again, this time in a high pitched tone.
“Don’t be ridiculous! I’m 23. Not a teen.”
“So, no then.”
I opened my mouth to say something but closed it again. I had no words, no good comeback. And Jaebeom knew that. Smirking, he took another step forward, our noses almost touching. That’s how close he was.
“Don’t be too startled.” He cautioned, before his head dipped down and his soft lips connected with mine.
The kiss was exhilarating. Every fiber of my body was activated by Jaebeom’s lips exploring mine. His hands casually rested on either side of my waist. I heard my quickened pulse in my ears. I felt the heat rise in my cheeks, felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Smelled his perfume as well as some fabric softener on him.
I was aware of every little detail, felt more alive than ever, yet at the same time it felt like a dream. Like somebody else had possessed my body.
Seconds felt like hours, and when he finally broke the kiss, Jaebeom looked at me intently. I didn’t move, didn’t flinch. He then smiled lightly and nodded.
“I think you’re right. We can work on the rest next time.”
Like a gentleman, he walked me out and even waited with me for my taxi to arrive.
That day I went home with mixed feelings. I didn’t want to be the stupid, gullible and easily impressed inexperienced girl but couldn’t help getting ideas in my head. The only thing I knew for sure was that I needed to keep this a secret. No one could find out about our kiss. Especially not Soojung.
My imaginary bubble would soon burst anyway. After the group project ended Jaebeom hardly ever talked or even looked at me. It was as if I never existed. I had expected such behavior, the only thing I regretted was wasting my first kiss on him.
