"From Oak to Java: Tracing the Evolution of a Revolutionary Programming Language"

Java's Origins:

Java, an Object-Oriented programming language, was conceived by James Gosling in the early 1990s, with the goal of creating a language for digital devices like set-top boxes and televisions. Initially considering C++ but facing memory constraints, Gosling shifted to creating a new platform, initially named "Greentalk," with the file extension .gt, which later transformed into "OAK."

Choosing "Oak":

The name "Oak" was inspired by an oak tree near Gosling's office, symbolizing strength and also being the national tree of several countries. However, due to trademark conflicts with Oak Technologies, the project was eventually renamed "JAVA" after an extensive brainstorming session, which included several other options like DNA, SILK, and RUBY. The unique and memorable nature of "Java," derived from a type of coffee bean, led to its selection, a name inspired by a coffee break near Gosling's office.

Java's Journey:

Built on principles of robustness, portability, platform independence, high performance, and multithreading, Java was recognized as one of the Ten Best Products of 1995 by TIME MAGAZINE. Presently, Java finds application in various domains such as internet programming, mobile devices, games, and e-business solutions.

Java's Evolution:

Over the years, Java has undergone significant transformations since JDK 1.0, with numerous additions and extensions to the standard library, expanding from a few hundred classes in JDK 1.0 to over three thousand in J2SE 5.

Highlighting Their Key Developments and Enhancements:

JDK Beta (1995): This was an early stage in Java's development, representing the initial testing and experimentation phase.

JDK 1.0 (January 1996): The Very first version was released on January 23, 1996. The principal stable variant, JDK 1.0.2, is called Java 1.

JDK 1.1 (February 1997):

It was released on February 19, 1997. There were many additions in JDK 1.1 as compared to version 1.0 such as

· A broad retooling of the AWT occasion show

· Inner classes added to the language

· JavaBeans

· JDBC

· RMI

J2SE 1.2 (December 1998):

“Play area” was the codename which was given to this form and was released on 8th December 1998. Its real expansion included: strictfp keyword

· Java IDL, an IDL usage for CORBA interoperability

J2SE 1.3 (May 2000):

J2SE 1.4 (February 2002):

Codename- “Merlin” Release Date- 6th February 2002 Additions: Library improvements

· Integrated XML parser and XSLT processor (JAXP) (specified in JSR 5 and JSR 63)

J2SE 5.0 (September 2004):

Codename- “Tiger” Release Date- “30th September 2004”

Originally numbered as 1.5 which is still used as its internal version. Added several new language features such as

· Generics

· Autoboxing

· Var-args

Java SE 6 (December 2006):

Codename- “Mustang” Released Date- 11th December 2006 Packaged with a database supervisor and encourages the utilization of scripting languages with the JVM. Replaced the name J2SE with java SE and dropped the .0 from the version number. Additions:

· Upgrade of JAXB to version 2.0: Including integration of a StAX parser.

· Support for pluggable annotations (JSR 269).

· JDBC 4.0 support (JSR 221)

Java SE 7 (July 2011):

Codename- “Dolphin” Release Date- 7th July 2011 Added small language changes including strings in the switch. The JVM was extended with support for dynamic languages. Additions:

· Compressed 64-bit pointers.

· Binary Integer Literals.

· Upstream updates to XML and Unicode.

Java SE 8 (March 2014): Released with the codename "Spider," this version introduced language level support for lambda expressions and default methods. It also included a new date and time API inspired by Joda Time.

Java SE 9 (September 2017): This version introduced Project Jigsaw, which aimed to modularize the Java SE platform. It implemented a standard module system for the Java SE platform and the JDK.

Java SE 10 (March 2018):

Janet Jackson's Velvet Rope 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition Coming Out This Week

Janet Jackson's Velvet Rope album turns 25 this Friday and to celebrate the occasion a deluxe edition that has two rare cuts ("God's Stepchild and "Accept Me" ) and 13 remixes will be available. J.Dilla's Ummah remix of "Got Til It's Gone" Teddy Riley's TNT remix of "I Get Lonely" and the Missy/Timbaland remix of "Go Deep" is included in the release. There are club remixes from Tony Humphries, David Morales, Frankie Knuckles and Masters At Work. October 7th will also be the date when some of Jackson's videos are released in HD including "Got Til It's Gone," "Go Deep," "I Get Lonely" "You" and "Together Again (Deeper Remix)." Jackson's Velvet Rope was daring for its exploration of sexuality, mental health and domestic violence when it was released in 1997. In order of upload (oldest to most recent). Text in quotation marks is copied + pasted directly from the Patreon upload. Unquoted text is my own thoughts. 

Undone- Demo for Parallel World. “This is the first scribble of an idea for the song "Parallel World." In this version you can see the idea, but it's yet to be explored.” It seems that this was saved on the 5th March 2018, 2 years before the album Diamonds was released. Instrumental, length: 1:31.

Undone- Parallel World Structure. “In this version of the demo, the idea is starting to take shape. The structure is taking shape and there are some new sounds being added. From here we will usually start to think about lyrics and melody and begin adding those layers as we build the song into its full production. After listening to this go and throw the album on and see what's changed from its early stages!” Saved on the 26th of March 2019, a year after the first demo and a year before the album was released. Instrumental, length: 3:17.

Diamonds Demo. “Here's the groundwork of what would become the title track on the latest album! A simple demo before drums or vocal ideas were put forth.” Saved on 26th Jan 2018, over 2 years before the album release. Instrumental, length: 2:29.

Poison. Mirrors demo. “Here's a demo for another track off the new album! A lot of our songs start this way as 1 minute ideas or moods and then grow into their full versions!” Saved 7th July 2018. Length: 0:52.

NewBlood. “Walking with Strangers era demo that never made the cut!” Instrumental, length: 1:36. The exact date it was created/saved is unknown. 

Drop. Early version of Red Stars. It features a different vocal take, and is the same track that circled around before. Length: 3:42.

4track - 1st Song - Instrumental - 1997. “Just found this along with some other goodies that Falcore just dug up! We talk about these 4track demos in the first interview with the band on Patreon”. Length: 3:50.

Seance. “Here's a treat for you from the "Superstition" unused folder!”. Saved 21st October 2013, a year before the Superstition album was released. As with the production of other Superstition songs, it sounds very 80′s electro. Instrumental, length: 3:28

NightTerrors. Surrender instrumental demo. “Here's another example of where a song might be born from. A lot of our ideas start like this. A minute or two long idea that pops into your head and then you flesh it out into a full song later.” This is a demo for Surrender. The working title ‘NightTerrors’ confirms my interpretation of the song which is about nightmares, and some that I have had myself. Saved 12th July 2013, more than a year before Superstition was released. Instrumental, length: 1:35.

Torment. “Here's another unreleased track that didn't make it onto "Superstition."” Another ‘electro’ instrumental demo. Saved 16th September 2013, over a year before Superstition’s release. Length: 4:28.

Melancholia. Another Superstition demo, sounding very distorted and spooky. Instrumental, length: 0:54. Exact date unknown.

Blacktop Recess. “Essentially these demos are a little more fleshed out.  This is where we would get the song before going to see Dave in Vancouver to work on the final versions.” A demo of Falling Down, with an early vocal take and slightly different lyrics. Length: 4:49. Exact date unknown.

Mirrors idea. “Here's a great example of an idea that didn't get used for "Under Your Spell" but made its way onto "Diamonds."” A demo of Mirrors, instrumental, length: 4:52. Exact date unknown.

Electro. “Going back to the Walking With Strangers era we have this "Electro" piece. An idea that formed and evolved but never got to make it to the melody and lyrics phase!” An instrumental demo, very reminiscent of Shiver, but not mentioned in relation to. Length: 4:28. Exact date unknown.

One - Rainbow Version. “This is a great example of the development of the songs from original idea to final product. Rainbow's mix has different lyrics and the guitar lines on the album version hadn't been dreamt up just yet.”. An early version of One, featuring Rainbow’s vocals instead of Chibi’s. This one hits different because of the lyric She never made it to 21. Exact date unknown, length: 3:35.

Demon. Endless instrumental demo. “Here's a little treat from "Under Your Spell." This is how "Endless" would have sounded when it was presented to the group to make into a full song.” Instrumental, length: 3:08. Saved 11th January 2017.

Broke as Your Heart. “Here's a "Hide and Seek" era demo that didn't end up getting completed.” Instrumental, length: 1:42. Exact date unknown. 

Play With Fire (Rainbow Version). “It's "Play with Fire" as produced by Rainbow.” Vocals by Rainbow. Length: 3:54, exact date unknown. Part of Rainbow's Wight Eye's sessions, where Play With Fire, Superstition, One, All Of Nothing, The Lowest Low and Crush were first created.

Faces. “A b-side from "Pins and Needles" that didn't quite make the cut.” A full song featuring Chibi’s vocals, with a sound and lyrics that very much fit into the themes of Pins and Needles. Length: 3:13. Exact date unknown. 

Castle. "unreleased demo idea". A short, unfinished instrumental piece, made as an idea for Hide and Seek. Length: 0:25. Exact date unknown.

The day of her audition, Jihee was so nervous that she made several mistakes, so they asked her to come back the next day.

During her years as a trainee she seriously thought about giving up being an idol and just focusing on acting, that was because several people told her that an idol actor did not have the same treatment and opportunities as a normal actor.

SM Entertainment already had everything planned about what kind of group and concept NCT would be and have: co-ed group with unlimited members, so the teachers always had their eyes fixed on various girls, including Jihee.

Some of the guys (Taeyong, Johnny, Yuta, Ten, Jaehyun and Hansol) knew that a girl would debut with them and they prepared themselves for it, that's why they were always nice with all girl trainees.

In 2014 Jihee found out that she was never contemplated to debut on Red Velvet and that she would be in SM's new project, a co-ed group.

However, Red Velvet kept thinking that she was going to debut with them later, just like Yeri would.

That was the year Jihee began to doubt about wanting to be an idol, for several months she imagined just giving it up and focusing on acting.

Although the boys were good to her and got along well, she still had her doubts about the group.

During NCT LIFE in Bangkok and NCT LIFE in Seul she was very shy and quiet, only listening to what the guys said, therefore she had little screentime. Now that Jihee looks back, she says that she had to act that way so the public would not hate her for being close to the boys.

Jihee debuted on NCT U - The 7th Sense as a main dancer and lead singer.

After her debut there was a lot of hatred and she was not seen again for a long time, so the haters thought they had won.

But Jihee was actually preparing for her second debut with NCT 127 - Limitless and her acting debut.

She has been more exposed to the public and has gone on variety shows because SM want people to get used to her.

She started to practice rapping more and SM ended up making her sub-rapper of the group.

She has written songs that have been rejected by the company because "they are not 127's style."

She has co-written songs for NCT.

NCT 2018 and 2020 was too much for her, she loves them so much but a room full of guys screaming and making a lot of noise made her mad. It was on those occasions that she understood what her family must have felt growing up with her.

In NCT 2020 she was seen quiet and in corners along with Jaemin.

She was going to be part of SM's new project "SuperM" but at that time she was busy with "Extraordinary You".

Fans of other groups throw hate at her when they attack NCT.

However, Jihee is not afraid to answer to haters.

She has repeated many times that she is completely focused on NCT 127 and acting, so a solo debut is not part of her plans right now.

127 don't know how she does it but whenever she enters a place she ends up making several friends.

Taeil and Johnny used to help her with homework.

She also tried to help the dreamies but she always got stressed and just gave them her support.

She is the biggest Weishennie.

Not even she can escape her members and their teasing due to romantic scenes.

She likes to joke that she is Jisung's older sister, at first he just laughed at her but now he says it too and her heart explodes a little.

Jihee wants to be a good example for the younger and future members.

She sees NCT 127 as her family, NCT DREAM as the little ones, and WAYV as the cool but slightly out of control friends.

Death Stranding Timeline

I put together a rough timeline for the overarching narrative of Death Stranding. I was able to piece together some parts of the timeline almost approximately, but admittedly, much of it is based on headcanon and conjecture due to parts of the lore being rather scant. Regardless, I tried to make it fun and I utilized invented details to enrich the worldbuilding. I also put together a few paragraphs explaining my methods in obtaining the more approximate dates. I’ve seen people talking about character age headcanons and attempting to pinpoint the duration of the Death Stranding, and I think I got pretty close to the truth with a few of these. August 25th, 1975 - Bridget Strand is born

November 27th, 1979 - Clifford Unger is born

August 16th, 1984 - Lisa Bridges is born

July, 2009 - John Blake McClane is transferred to ODA 1116 following the death of one of its Intelligence and Operations Sergeants

June 30th, 2010 - Heartman (Rudolph ‘Rudy’ Jacobsen) is born

July 16th, 2011 - Lucy Dimmonds is born

December 18th, 2011 - Iraq War ends

October, 2012 - Clifford Unger meets Lisa Bridges while on military leave, encountering her in Whitewater after he stumbles across her escaped German Shepherd,Victoria. A romance soon blossoms.

November, 2012 - Scott Faulkner and his running mate Bridget Strand win the presidency

October, 2014 - Clifford Unger and Lisa Bridges are married

February, 2015 - Lisa reveals to Cliff that she is pregnant, he retires from active duty to be with his family

March 15th, 2015 - Death Stranding occurs

May 29th, 2015 - Målingen and Lockne Leifsdottir are born

June, 2015 - President Faulkner creates the government organization ‘Bridges’, which is designed to create a network across the fractured America in order to administer aid to the civilian population. Its other, classified purpose is to research the cause of the Death Stranding and to synthesize potential solutions to the social, economic, and infrastructural issues it has caused.

July, 2015 - John Blake McClane leaves the United States Army Special Forces to pursue a career opportunity as head of Bridges security. Much of Bridges’ security personnel is comprised of military veterans. 

August, 2015 - President Faulkner is killed during a voidout that obliterates Manhattan Island. The voidout is caused by the death of a stillmother during the preliminary embryonic chiral experimentation trial runs conducted by Bridges, experiments which would go on to become the blueprints for the ‘Bridge Babies’, also known as ‘BB’ units. The existence of the embryonic experimentation being brought to the public eye causes widespread outrage, and the research is discontinued. Following Faulkner’s death, his vice president, Bridget Strand, succeeds the presidency. While the embryonic chiral experimentation is officially discontinued, President Strand continues it in secret, desperate to discover the secrets of the new element ‘chiralium’ and its vast potential to bolster technological development.

September, 2015 - Cliff and Lisa are hit by a drunk driver while driving home one night after attending a play. Both receive serious injuries, Cliff; a shattered collarbone, humerus, and ulna, and Lisa; severe whiplash and head trauma, which leaves her comatose. Miraculously, the 7 month old fetus is largely unharmed.

October, 2015 - Cliff enrolls his family in an experimental medical care program that promises to utilize state of the art technology to provide them the best chance at recovery, as recommended to him by an old military buddy. An emergency C-section is conducted, and the 28 week old Baby Bridges ‘BB’ is placed in a portable pod synchronized with his mother’s heartbeat. 

Bridget Strand acts as overseer of the experiments in secret, under the pseudonym Dr. Samsa. She hides her true identity behind a steel masquerade mask.

February, 2016 - Cliff grows increasingly irritated and untrusting of Dr. Samsa as she continues to avoid his questions and lie to him. BB is kept in his pod long past his due date and prevented from growing through the usage of hormone blockers.

December 23rd, 2016 - When John realizes that Cliff’s family is being harvested for chiral experimentation, he warns Cliff of what is going to be done to them. When Cliff tries to escape the facility with his baby, he and his entire family are killed. Baby Bridges is revived by Amelie on the beach, and he is christened ‘Sam’. Bridget Strand makes the decision to raise him as her own, as he was no longer a BB candidate after Cliff released him from his pod. After this unnatural resuscitation, the laws of nature are made gravely upset. Sam becomes the first repatriate and DOOMS sufferer, one who can travel between Earth and Hades and detect the spectral dead using his 5 senses. The dead, the Beached Things, return physically to the land of the living and claim more human souls, dragging the damned with them as they returned to the other side. Timefall, rain that rapidly ages anything it touches, begins to fall in showers across the American continent.

December 31st, 2016 - Sam Strand is ‘born’

March, 2017 - John Blake McClane fakes his death with the help of President Strand. He returns to the broken political scene under the pseudonym Die-Hardman and becomes a personal aide to the president.

October 1st, 2017 - Fragile (Giselle Depardieu) is born

November 8th, 2019 - Higgs Monaghan is born

April, 2020 - The United Cities of America (UCA) is established, as the state governments and boundaries have all but crumpled as a result of continuous voidouts, and only a few key cities remain.

June, 2020 - Deadman earns the position of Bridges head coroner as a result of his government-sponsored artificial personhood program.

May, 2033 - Lucy Dimmonds earns a Bachelor’s degree in psychology

March, 2034 - Lucy Dimmonds becomes a licensed therapist

February, 2038 - Sam has his first meeting with his therapist, Lucy Dimmonds. In the following months, the two begin to form a close and unprofessional relationship.

December, 2039 - Sam and Lucy are married, and Lucy retires from her practice. 

February, 2040 - Lucy contracts DOOMS after becoming pregnant with her and Sam’s child Louise. She begins to have horrible visions of the apocalypse, which Bridget assures her are real portents of the future.

September, 2040 - Lucy chooses to commit suicide in order to avoid bringing a child into the world where the apocalypse is imminent. Her death causes a voidout, and Sam, who was busy making deliveries at the time, returns home to a smoking crater; all that’s left of his hometown. The survivors eye him warily and he can tell that they blame him for the disaster. In shame and grief, Sam resigns from Bridges and begins work as an independent porter. He changes his name to Sam Porter Bridges.

January 11th, 2045 - President Bridget Strand dies of metastasized uterine cancer. The plot of Death Stranding begins. 

References and Reasoning Used in Creating Timeline

Deadman mentions that WW1 took place more than 100 years ago, meaning that the present day in Death Stranding is past 2014-2018

Deadman mentions that WW2 took place a century ago, which places the timeframe of Death Stranding’s narrative anywhere from 2039-2045. I opted for the late estimate as to make Sam a little older and give the timeline some room to breathe

Based on appearance, behavior, and age in relation to other characters (he was a baby when Cliff, Die-Hardman, and Bridget were all mature adults), I placed Sam at around 28-30 years old. If he were any older, characters such as Die-Hardman and Bridget would appear much too young in the present day. This would also make the period in which the Death Stranding occurred around 30 years.

Deadman explains that Clifford Unger took part in the Kosovo War, the Afghanistan War, and the Iraq War. This would place his years of service from 1999 to right before the Death Stranding and Sam’s birth, around 2015. We know his military career did not begin any earlier, as there is no mention of him serving during the Balkan Wars or Persian Gulf War. Assuming that he was around 18 for his first deployment during the Kosovo War, it can be pretty reasonably inferred that Cliff was born around 1979, and was therefore around 36-37 when he was killed. This lines up nicely with the age restrictions surrounding combat in the United States Army Special Forces (ages 20-36). Essentially, Cliff must have been 36-37 in 2016, for if he was any older he would not have been only recently retired from combat, and if he was any younger he would not have been old enough to have served  during the Kosovo War.

Bridget Strand’s age is determined similarly. As both vice president and president, she would have had to have been 35 years of age or older, if she was vice president in 2012, she would have had to have been at least 35. I placed her at 37, which is still very young, but not quite the youngest on record. But, since she assumes the presidency in 2016 following the death of the president, she would have become president at 41 years of age, which would make her the record-holder of the title of youngest American president. Assuming she is 41 in 2016, she would be 70 years of age at the time of her death in 2045, which seems reasonable.

Most other aspects of the timeline are built around these key definable pieces of the puzzle and are subject to change as more lore is revealed. 

Essentially, this is full of headcanons that I’ll be happy to alter if and when we get more information.

NCT stands for Neo Culture Technology and is a band consisting on Infinite members with members moving around in the subunits and with different subunits all around the world, some stationed in cities. 

NCT U - was the first sub-unit to debut and is meant to be a rotation showcase group.  Sometimes it features two members and sometimes its a group.  

NCT 127 - is the a a sub group based in Seoul.  It is the first sub-unit of the type.  (I believe it is not supposed to be rotational)

NCT Dream - consists of the youngest members of NCT.  For this group, it is 19 & Under.  Once you turn 19, you graduate from the Sub-unit..  

NCT 2018 - Is a project group of every NCT member that has been active since debut.  (Like a yearbook)

this information is public, but not confirmed. it can be deduced at varying difficulties from his social media or previous appearances. 

seungcheol’s father is choi kyungjae, a violinist formerly part of the kbs symphony orchestra from before seungcheol was born until around february 2013. for a while, he occasionally filled in when desperately needed, but that has recently stopped completely. 

after retiring from the orchestra, his father opened a music store selling instruments, sheet music, etc. 

attended sopa and graduated in february 2016. 

long-term best friends with convex member jace ( @jacerk ) as evidenced by numerous posts and comments across his and jace’s instagram accounts.

huge star wars fan as evidenced by literally anywhere and everywhere. 

plays guitar, piano and keyboard to a high standard as evidenced in various youtube covers.

HARTFORD WOLF PACK TO HOST TWO PRESEASON GAMES AT TRINITY COLLEGE

The Wolf Pack will host the Springfield Thunderbirds on Wednesday, October 4th, at 7:00 p.m. and the Bridgeport Islanders on Saturday, October 7th, at 1:00 p.m. The games will take place at the Koeppel Community Sports Center on Trinity's campus at 175 New Britain Avenue, Hartford, CT. Both games are open to the public, with doors opening at 6:15 p.m. on October 4th and 12:15 p.m. on October 7th. While both games are free of charge, all fans attending these preseason contests are encouraged to make a $5 charitable donation when entering the arena. This charitable donation is cash only. The charitable donations from both games will benefit the J4cob Roger Poulin Foundation. The Foundation's mission is to ensure that every child has a team they belong to, where they are accepted and wanted because everyone should get to play.
