# Unveiling Vapes UAE: Pioneering the Future of Vaping in the Middle East
*Revolutionizing an Ancient Tradition with Modern Technology*
*October 22, 2023*
In the heart of the Middle East, a new player has emerged in the world of vaping - Vapes UAE. This company, born in the vibrant metropolis of Dubai, is pioneering a movement that combines ancient traditions with cutting-edge technology. Let us embark on a journey through time, tracing the evolution of vaping across the globe and witnessing how Vapes UAE is rewriting the narrative.
The Ancient Roots of Vaping
Vaping, in various forms, is not a recent phenomenon. Its origins can be traced back to ancient civilizations. Early iterations involved heating herbs or liquids to release aromatic vapors for therapeutic, religious, or recreational purposes. For example, in ancient Egypt, hot stones were used to vaporize herbal blends. Similarly, in China, the practice of inhaling steam infused with medicinal herbs dates back thousands of years.
The Modern Resurgence
Fast forward to the 21st century, and we witness a renaissance in vaping, thanks to the advent of electronic cigarettes. Hon Lik, a Chinese pharmacist, is credited with creating the first commercially successful e-cigarette in 2003, following a personal quest to quit smoking. This invention marked a pivotal moment in the history of vaping, sparking a global trend.
Vapes UAE: Bridging Tradition and Innovation
In the heart of the Middle East, a region steeped in ancient cultural practices, Vapes UAE is making waves by blending this rich heritage with state-of-the-art vaping technology. The company has embarked on a mission to introduce vaping as a modern alternative to traditional smoking methods.
Vapes UAE has set itself apart by curating a diverse range of premium e-liquids inspired by the flavors of the region. From exotic dates to aromatic spices, each e-liquid tells a story of Middle Eastern culture, offering a unique vaping experience that pays homage to centuries-old traditions.
Sustainability and Innovation
Vapes UAE is not only revolutionizing vaping in terms of culture but also in sustainability. The company is at the forefront of eco-conscious practices, championing reusable devices and responsible sourcing of materials. By prioritizing sustainability, Vapes UAE is leading the way in reducing the environmental footprint of the vaping industry.
Community and Education
One of the core values of Vapes UAE is the promotion of a knowledgeable and responsible vaping community. The company hosts workshops and educational events to raise awareness about vaping practices, safety, and regulations. By fostering a sense of community, Vapes UAE aims to empower users with the information they need to make informed choices.
A Global Vision
While Vapes UAE has its roots in the Middle East, its vision is global. The company aims to be a beacon of innovation and cultural exchange, bridging the gap between East and West through the universal language of vaping.
The Future of Vaping
Vapes UAE stands as a testament to the potential of vaping to unite cultures, promote sustainability, and offer a modern alternative to traditional smoking. As the company continues to push boundaries, it is poised to leave an indelible mark on the world of vaping.
In a world where ancient traditions meet cutting-edge technology, Vapes UAE is leading the charge toward a healthier, more sustainable future, one vape at a time.

Rise of the TMNT Timeline
Alright, by piecing together some clues from the show and making some educated guesses, I’ve put together a tentative chronology for Rise!
(Note: not all episodes are included, just a couple that either have timeline evidence or are somehow plot notable. This is assuming the canonical episode order is also chronological order.)
[EDIT] Added some more information (namely Splinter’s birthday month).
1600s-ish: The Shredder was created and sealed away September 1960: Splinter was born 1966: Splinter’s mother left (Finale part 1 flashback) 1979: Splinter left for America (Finale part 1 flashback) 1980-1984: Splinter became an action film star, dated around 1984: Splinter started dating Big Mama 1987: Splinter’s “Hot Soup: the Game” was released 1989: Splinter proposed to Big Mama, was imprisoned in Battle Nexus November 2002: April was born April-August 2003: (Presumably) Raph was born April-August 2004: (Presumably) Leo and Donnie were born April-August 2005: (Presumably) Mikey was born October 2005: Splinter and the Turtles were mutated February 2014: The first Lair Games was held 2014-2016: Donnie made his first battleshell, goggles, and tech bracer Early 2018: Piebald was flushed August 2018: Mystic Mayhem (the series begins), Down with the Sickness September 2018: The Turtle Tank was created (The Fast and the Furriest), Bug Busters, Hypno part Deux October 2018: Bullhop, Evil League of Mutants, Shelldon was first created (Smart Lair), Shadow of Evil November 2018: April’s 16th Birthday (Warren and Hypno), April meets Sunita (Operation: Normal) December 2018: Snow Day January 2019: S1 Finale February 2019: The sixth Lair Games was held (Lair Games), Repairin’ the Baron March 2019: Air Turtle April-May 2019: S2 Finale
(Reasoning below the cut!)
So. Assuming that the episodes occur in chronological order, we can reasonably assume that the course of the show proper takes around or slightly less than a year.
In Hypno Part Deux, April is going to a homecoming dance; homecoming dances happen usually around the beginning of the school year, in late September or early October. Since she is canonically 15 at the time (she says she’s 16 in Always Be Brownies, which happens after her birthday) and has a birthday that comes after homecoming, that would likely make her a high school junior! That’s not important, just a fun fact. Placing the beginning of the series around August makes sense, then, since it’d be before April started school and during flu season, giving Splinter a good reason for catching the rat flu in Down with the Sickness.
The other solid time marker we have is Snow Day, which obviously takes place during snow season in New York (which is usually December to March). It’d likely be closer to December, since I’d like to imagine that they would have gone out to have fun in the snow as soon as they could have, potentially even at first snow. Since Lair Games comes chronologically after Snow Day and confirms the year as being 2019, we can assume that most episodes that happen before Snow Day happened in 2018 while those after happened in 2019.
Another, slightly more tenuous time marker is Bullhop, where a calendar is shown that says the 21st of the month was on a Sunday; by our previous assumption, this is 2018, so a calendar shows this must have been during the month of October, which falls in line with the rest of our timeline here! Neat. The 2018-2019 NBA season went from October 6 to April 10, so, since Air Turtle presumably showed a late season game with potential for turnaround, early March seems like a fair bet. All of those episodes combined give a pretty good sense of time throughout the series, spanning from probably around August 2018 to Mid-2019. The finale could have happened any time after March and before June (when high school would end, meaning Sloppy Joe wouldn’t have had to be working Draxum’s kitchen). Because there were quite a few episodes that should have happened before the finale, though, I’ll split the difference and say the S2 finale happened in or around May.
Fun detail: by this timeline, April’s birthday is sometime between October and December/January, likely November (seeing as it comes after Bullhop but before Snow Day, and judging by the fall colors of the foliage in Operation Normal which comes directly after her birthday episode.)
As for the brothers, we can assume that they might have different birthdays judging by how in Lair Games, Mikey says that one of his favorite days is “my birthday”; if they all shared a birthday, he might have been more likely to say “our birthday”. They were mutated sometime close to October, but since they didn’t seem to see the date of their mutation as anything special in ELoM, we can assume they don’t celebrate it as their birthday. We know that at the beginning of the show, Mikey is 13, Leo and Donnie are 14, and Raph is 15; at no point during the show do any of them have a birthday, which leads me to assume that they are the same ages by the S2 finale. They COULD have had a birthday offscreen, but since birthdays are a pretty big thing for teenagers, I’d think that if one of them had a birthday it would be pretty noteworthy. I’ll just guess and say they didn’t have one. If that’s the case, then all of their birthdays would be some time between April-ish and August-ish. By the time the show starts, then, they would have already had their birthdays, confirming for us their (probably only guessed anyway but whatever) birth years as 2003, 2004, and 2005. Realistically, Splinter probably didn’t know how much older Raph was from any of the others or anything like that, but the years are still somewhat important for age calculation purposes. I could try to guess their birthday months by saying they might all have wanted a unique birthday month, but that would be complete conjecture on my part (as compared to the rest of this which is just mostly conjecture), and would honestly be more headcanon territory than an educated guess? So for the timeline I’ll just say that their birthdays are between April and August.
Now, reaching further backwards to figure out Splinter’s life timeline!
In Splinter’s memories in E-turtle Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, we see a clip of a teenage Splinter. Said “teenage splinter” looks to be on the older side of teenager, as he seems to have his own apartment and just looks older besides, so I’d place him at either 18 or 19 (leaning towards 19). Additionally, taking a look around his room, it looks like he might be using a Sony Walkman (first made in 1979), and has what looks to be a Star Wars poster on his wall (1977). Additionally, he has a TV in his room that looks to be a Toshiba Blackstripe model that was popular in the mid-to-late 70s. While I can’t tell if he does actually have a walkman or not, I’d probably place this scene as being 1978 or 1979 anyway, so let’s just say it’s 1979. If he was 19 in 1979, that would place Splinter’s birth year as 1960, which is nice and even so I’m keeping it. That would make Splinter 58-59 during the course of the show, which seems to track! He has a birthday in Mascot Melee (the turtles are buying him a new robe as a birthday present), which, according to my episode timeline, puts his birthday around early September.
The flashback of Splinter as a kid is a little bit tricky, since he looks to be about five or six judging by how he acts in the scene? But he’s also holding a Kamen Rider doll, and that show didn’t exist until 1971. I nonetheless place the scene in 1966, since this is a cartoon and hey, maybe the Kamen Rider equivalent came out a few years earlier in this world, who cares. The bottle flip challenge already apparently happened in 2014 here, why not move some other stuff around? This exercise has already had me comparing calendar days, I will not be deterred
In Many Unhappy Returns, the clapperboard for the film “Crouching Shrimp, Hidden Tiger Prawn” in Splinter’s flashback shows that it was 1984 when he first met Big Mama, meaning that he was not only Lou Jitsu by then (at just 24 years old!), but that he had been making movies for at least a few years. After all, he and Big Mama were supposedly inseparable after meeting, and in The Shadow of Evil, it’s shown that Splinter did date around a bit as a star. Assuming that rat dad isn’t the cheating type, that would have had to be before meeting Big Mama. In Fists of Furry, Splinter mentions that he hasn’t seen any of his dojos in thirty years; while he may not have meant literally thirty years on the dot, assuming he’s at least close, that would mean that he was first abducted around 1989 (age 29). At that point, he and Big Mama would have been dating for around 5 years, which seems like a reasonable amount of time for him to wait before proposing. He also would have had time to build up quite a bit of fame as a movie star; the game he had of him looks to be on a system similar to the Atari 2600 and in fact looks pretty similar to the real life game “Kung Fu Master” that came out on Atari in 1987, a year which would have been the prime of his career. Sure, that date works as well as any. After that point, we know he was imprisoned in the Battle Nexus until Baron Draxum kidnapped him in order to use his DNA to mutate the turtles 13 years before The Evil League of Mutants. That would have placed his kidnapping and their mutations at around October of 2005, judging by the monthly timeline of the show. So, Splinter would have been around 45 when he adopted the turtles, after having been imprisoned and forced to fight for ~16 straight years. Dang.
Finally, I figured that the whole deal with Shredder and Karai would have happened at some point in the 1600s as it was 18 generations ago, judging by the number of “greats” in Karai’s grandma title, and if you average out a generation to be about 20-25 years, that lands you in the range of the 15th century. That works especially because Ninja apparently first started becoming a thing in the 15th century, so the timing checks out well enough.
(and, just as an extra fun note for the timeline, the lair games was said to have been going on for 6 years as of early 2019, meaning it must have started in 2014. We see that, in 2014 (year 1 of the Lair Games), Donnie doesn’t have his goggles or battleshell and is instead wearing glasses. In 2016 (year 3), though, he looks about the same as he does in the present, meaning he must have created all his tech that he wears on him (battleshell, goggles, tech bracer) between 2014 and 2016.)
So, the above timeline is a guesstimated and shoved around compilation of all this totally meaningless investigation, typed in a form that makes some kind of chronological sense! I hope that someone finds it useful, or just fun to think about :D

The Absolon Kingdom: General information
I uploaded the picture of Idris’s face because he’s the King of the Absolon King, not because he’s totally my favorite character.
I think it’s where the Absolon Kingdom (AK) is located.
@lunanelfeah suggested that creating a separate post to explain about the Absolon Kingdom might be a good idea, I have to admit it’s an incredible idea. And @dynastiasimss also suggested me this website https://www.notebook.ai/ , I love this site, thank you. Brace yourself for long af essay, forgive me if some political things just don’t make sense, lol.
The beginning of the Absolon Kingdom dates back to the 16th century, when witch-hunt was a prevalent practice. That was God’s intention to gift ordinary people special superpower, so he could encourage the Gatekeepers to start treating people reasonably. The Gatekeepers’ duty is giving moral assessment and advice to human beings, so they can improve themselves and become a better person. But the Gatekeepers haven’t even thought about developing any sort of guidance or regulation regarding this matter, they only give people points based on their feelings. If the Gatekeepers have bad mood, or just don’t like someone’s appearance, they may give a person extremely low moral score that later affects their chance of reincarnation without any single reason.
So God wanted the Gatekeepers to understand human better, but their ego got in the way. They found it offensive that angels and demons had been granted the Heaven and Hell respectively from the very beginning, yet the Gatekeepers had to build their own territory. They refused to accept they have equal position as the Human Beings, refused to be restricted to one country on Earth. Therefore, the Gatekeeper’s great ancestor, King Park V, had to gather people with special ability on his own and found an island following God’s prophecy.
HISTORY
First King: Park Byung Ho (Park I (Park V to the Gatekeepers, he's the 5th King of the Gatekeepers)) Second King: Idris Bennett (Idris I)
During the reign of Park Byung Ho:
He managed to establish the Absolon Kingdom, to build cities in an empty, deserted island. But he is a highly conservative man, who had been living for 1000 years. Due to the Gatekeepers' inability to accept the Absolon Kingdom as their territory, he had been sitting on the throne for approximately 500 years.
By the 1800s the Absolon Kingdom was already flourishing, but that was when a long period of stagnation started in the country. Some people began to have problem with his reign, they claimed he was too power-hungry to step down from the position and his long reign could lead to detrimental effects in the future. According to the political analysts, King Park V had become overly content with the Absolon Kingdom's current stage of development, that his conservativeness could only hinder the country's further progress. Due to these articles, censorship was tightened, significant human right concerns were observed in the AK. A great number of books, which were claimed to contain "harmful" ideologies, weren't allowed to be published (including The Realm of Magic book, that was mentioned in Lizzy's Issue).
In the beginning of the 21st century, the AK's economy still relied heavily on agriculture and magic, poverty and starvation were prevalent in the rural areas. As the country is located in a small island, the residents in disaster prone areas didn't receive neither prior warnings to evacuate nor helps from the government. Some of these areas were claimed to be abandoned by the King, but the residents were too impoverished to settle somewhere else. But the press wasn’t free to report such topics. By the end of King Park I reign the Absolon Kingdom had become severely underdeveloped. Literacy rate of the country was only 61.5%.
King Idris I reign:
(Unlimited opportunity to post pictures of my favorite boy)
During 16 years of the reign of King Idris I the Absolon Kingdom has experienced more changes compared to the last 100 years of King Park I ruling. Idris took Tran's family political ideas into account and sent groups of expedition to report on the outside world's level of development. Idris acknowledged that the current AK's agrarian society needed changes, that the country will only progress if the Absolonians find a way to combine magic and technology.
After 16 years of reign the Absolon Kingdom's farming, fishing, mining, manufacturing, textile..... industries shift to automated works. The services sector of economy grows in importance, accounting for a large percentage of employment in the AK. Many new private banks, business companies are established during Idris's ruling. The country's appearance has also been transformed significantly:
Capital city: Bloomingdon 2004 (world credit: https://thesimscatalog.com/sims3/downloads/worlds/large/wild-wild-west/)
Bloomingdon 2020 (credit: North Bloomingdon @descargassims)
Censorship rules have been eased, for the first time people start obtaining the freedom of speech and freedom of assembly and association. Even if the fear to express their political views still exists within the country, many controversial publications (such as the Realm of Magic book that promotes the idea of connecting with the outside world) are allowed to be released to the public. A great number of broadcasting and news companies have been established in the span of 16 years, the Absolonians have the opportunity to gather information from other non-governmental news sources than the NNN (National News Network) chanel.
Many disaster prone villages have been rebuilt thanks to Idris, early warning systems have also been set up in these areas to avoid the severe impact of hazards. If storms or earthquakes do occur, Idris will offer relief and humanitarian aid to these areas, he even takes time to personally visit and use his healing power to treat injured locals. Hence, that's how he's called The Angel of the Kingdom.
Despite all the changes, the practice of public and cruel executions is still prevalent in the AK. The term “Minimum wage” has never been determined in the country, in order to achieve the current level of development the subjects of the Kingdom sometimes are required to work 20 hours a day without additional pay. Prisoners are treated as subjects of torture and human experimentation. The AK is still “underdeveloped” from a legal standpoint.
Regarding the connection of the Absolon Kingdom to the God Helpers and the territory of Hadesiallania (northern part of the AK).
During 1750s the Demons and the Gatekeepers had conflicts regarding their authority as the God Helpers. Eventually, their conflicts led to war (the demons attacked first), the Reapers just silently watched the bloodshed and remained neutral. The Gatekeepers realized they were losing, so they asked for the Reapers’ help.
The Reapers had always been considered as the sinners, the unluckiest God Helpers. They had to witness death every day, God never granted them any sovereign territory. There was a theory that the Reapers committed grave sins in their past life, so they had to live this life to pay for their mistakes. Some people rumored that the Reapers were the humans with 0 moral score, so God couldn’t decide whether to send them to hell or let them reincarnate.
So the Reapers made a deal, they agreed to support the Gatekeepers, as long as they were given part of the Absolon Kingdom territory. Hadesiallania is still a part of the Absolon Kingdom, but it’s an autonomous area. They have their own legal system, government (parliament and local executive authority), taxation system.
Edit:
The aftermath of the Tran family’s insurrection:
During a national survey, which was conducted in 2003, 80% of Absolonians voted against the idea of introducing the Absolon Kingdom to the global world due to the fear of witch-hunt. In October 2020 (after the rebel of Chi’s family) one unofficial online poll indicated that 90% of Absolonians would prefer staying hidden from the international community. But this data might be unreliable, since after the Tran family’s execution people with similar political views are discriminated against, so they’re afraid to speak out

Two “4′s” And A “7″ Beat Two “5′s” And An “8″ - The Battle Of Horror Heavyweights At The End Of A Decade.
1988 and 1989 were interesting years for horror fans as the decade of excess came to a close. Heading into the 1990′s, the final seven-hundred plus days of the 1980′s saw the emergence of new blood into the genre with the likes of “Chucky” from 1988′s CHILD’S PLAY as well as “Pinhead” getting a jump start on his own franchise with the release of that same year’s HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER II. Originality is always welcome, but let’s not forget who the decade really belonged to: Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers. With a combined box office pull from the seventeen films released between 1980 and 1989 nearly amassing half a billion dollars worldwide, the slasher genre spearheaded by the gruesome trio was as popular and as profitable as ever. Critics be damned, the films were huge draws and favorites of fanboys and fangirls the world over.
What makes the final two calendar years of the decade worthwhile of putting under the microscope? 1988 and 1989 were the only two years where an entry from all three series were released theatrically, with FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD dropping first on May 13th, 1988, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 4: THE DREAM MASTER hitting screens on August 19th, 1988, and HALLOWEEN 4: THE RETURN OF MICHAEL MYERS closing out the year with its October 21st, 1988 bow. 1989 saw FRIDAY THE 13TH again take the lead with FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VIII: JASON TAKES MANHATTAN being released on July 28th, 1989, followed by A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 5: THE DREAM CHILD arriving only two weeks later on August 11th, 1989 and lastly, HALLOWEEN 5: THE REVENGE OF MICHAEL MYERS seeing the light of day on October 13th, 1989. Over the course of eighteen months, six films were released, each achieving varying degrees of financial and critical success. How did everything shake down? Which film, or film series won the battle of the sequel onslaught?
As mentioned before, the first film of the bunch to see its release was 1988′s FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD. Paramount Pictures had long ignored these films when it came to proper advertising campaigns and wide-release strategies. Whereas New Line Cinema fully embraced their A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET series, Paramount seemed to take an embarrassed, closeted approach to their release strategy for their FRIDAY THE 13TH films. Short of a trailer, some television spots and some coverage in genre magazines such as Fangoria and Gorezone, not much ever really found its way out of the Paramount marketing department for the seventh entry in the series. There was a People Magazine piece that featured all three horror icons, along with a Leatherface from THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE films appearance, but that was close to everything when it came to promoting FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD.
Next up came the fourth entry in the A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET series when on August 19th, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 4: THE DREAM MASTER hit the big screen. Unlike Paramount, New Line Cinema went all out for Freddy’s return. From promotional pieces on MTV, a movie tie-in novel, toys to licensed memorabilia and Halloween costumes, the Freddy Krueger machine was in full force by the time the fourth film found itself in front of audiences. The film’s box office returns showed the effort put in paid off as THE DREAM MASTER was the highest grossing A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET film to date, eclipsed only by 2003′s FREDDY VS. JASON.
Rounding out 1988 was the release of the fourth HALLOWEEN film, HALLOWEEN 4: THE RETURN OF MICHAEL MYERS. As the film’s subtitle promised, masked maniac Michael Myers made his triumphant return after skipping out on the (at the time) ill received, Michael Myers-less HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH. Nearly seven years had passed since Myers was last seen in 1981′s HALLOWEEN II and fans were pumped to have him back. Producer Moustapha Akkad’s insistence on returning the series to its roots paid off, as audiences flocked to see the William Shatner (or at least a loose interpterion of it) mask donned once again as bodies piled up at the feet of Michael Myers.
The numbers don’t lie. A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 4: THE DREAM MASTER was the undisputed box office champ, pulling in more than both the seventh FRIDAY THE 13TH and fourth HALLOWEEN combined. While New Line Cinema may have won the box office, it was the horror fans that really made out, having all three of their favorites, in three of the better entries in all of the series hitting theaters within weeks of each other.
Then came 1989.
Just over a year after FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD’s release, Paramount rolled out the deceptively titled FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VIII: JASON TAKES MANHATTAN on July 28th, 1989. Paramount did little more for this entry’s marketing than it did for the previous film, going slightly out of their way to at least promote the film on their own, Viacom owned ARSENIO HALL SHOW. Kane Hodder, returning as Jason Voorhees for the second time appeared on the talk show as Jason himself, in a rather amusing bit to promote the eighth film. Again, less the trailer, some television spots and a recalled clever teaser poster, there wasn’t much in the way of a promotional push going on for what would become Jason’s last hurrah under the Paramount Pictures banner. The indifference by the executives showed as FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VIII: JASON TAKES MANHATTEN would go on to become the lowest grossing film in the entire franchise.
By 1989, even Freddy fatigue seemed to be setting in. New Line Cinema’s quick turnaround on A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 5: THE DREAM CHILD, after the hugely successful A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 4: THE DREAM MASTER may have proved a costly mistake, as just like the eighth FRIDAY THE 13TH sank at the box office, so to did the fifth Freddy film, becoming the lowest grossing film in the series up until 1994′s WES CRAVEN’S NEW NIGHTMARE saw its silver screen debut. Even New Line Cinema’s gigantic marketing push for the fourth film seemed to be watered down for the 1989 entry. Gone were the television tie-ins and merchandise heavy promos, all that was left was a soundtrack and score release, a novel adaptation and little else. Freddy seemed destined to head into the 1990′s as an afterthought for the House That Freddy Built.
If the behind the scenes executive choices seemed to go off the rails for both the A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and FRIDAY THE 13TH franchises as they hit the end of the decade, it was the on-screen shenanigans that took the HALLOWEEN series into strange, unforeseen territories. What started out as a simple stalk and slash set of films took a odd turn (that continued through at least one more sequel) when a Celtic Cult subplot was introduced into the fifth Michael Myers film. In all fairness, not much is exposed in HALLOWEEN 5: THE REVENGE OF MICHAEL MYERS about this unnecessary addition, but enough is touched upon to give the audience the second WTF moment of the franchise (I’m eluding to the fact that upon its initial release, HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH garnered that same reaction). If the seventh and eighth FRIDAY THE 13TH films suffered from a lack of good marketing, HALLOWEEN 5: THE REVENGE OF MICHAEL MYERS did itself no favors with its own campaign, bearing too much of a resemblance to the fourth film’s promotional material, most notably the film’s subtitle, THE REVENGE OF MICHAEL MYERS which was all too similar to 1988′s THE RETURN OF MICHAEL MYERS.
If a winner had to be declared it would be hard to argue that 1988′s efforts shouldn’t come out on top. The three films released that year were the better of the overall six, and the hype leading up to the fourth A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET film, as well as audiences getting their Michael Myers back in the fourth HALLOWEEN was enough to call it as a hands down victory for the 1988 entries.

Jazmine Sullivan
Jazmine Marie Sullivan (born April 9, 1987) is an American singer-songwriter from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her debut album, Fearless, was released in 2008 to commercial and critical success. It is certified gold in the US. The album contains her debut single "Need U Bad", produced by Missy Elliott, a reggae-inspired song. A cover version of her second single "Bust Your Windows" that was made on Glee in 2009, boosted her career in the popular culture industry. At the 51st Grammy Awards in 2009, Sullivan received nominations for Best New Artist, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best Traditional R&B Performance, Best R&B Song and Best Contemporary R&B Album.
Sullivan released her second studio album, Love Me Back, in 2010. The album was critically well received and surpassed the success of her debut, earning her another Grammy nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for the lead single "Holding You Down (Goin' in Circles) at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2011. The album debuted at number 17 on the Billboard 200 chart. Love Me Back has sold over three million copies. She is one of the female R&B artists to simultaneously have two albums in the top ten of the Billboard 200 and have two singles in the top five of Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, as well as in the history of the Grammy Awards to have three simultaneous Grammy-nominated singles, with "Need U Bad", "Bust Your Windows", and "Lions, Tigers & Bears", all of which also topped the charts. Fearless is the longest-running number one album by a female R&B artist in the history of the US Album Charts.
After taking a three-year break, Sullivan announced her third studio album, Reality Show, in 2014. The album was later released on January 13, 2015. It became Sullivan's best-selling album and peaked at number one at the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Reality Show was her first studio album to be released under RCA Records and earned her three Grammy Award nominations, including Best R&B Album, and a NAACP Image Award, which was NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Song. The lead single, "Let It Burn", became her first song in the US to sell over one million digital copies within a week of its release. Her concert tour, The Reality Show Tour, visited North America and concluded with finale concerts at the House of Blues in March 2015.
In 2010, Sullivan was named Rising Star by Billboard. At the 2009 and 2016 NAACP Image Awards, Sullivan was nominated for Outstanding New Artist and Outstanding Female Artist. In 2018, her single "Bust Your Windows" was listed at number 140 on National Public Radio's The 200 Greatest Songs By 21st Century Women. Sullivan cites singers Brandy, Changing Faces, Kim Burrell, Lauryn Hill, and Dorinda Clark-Cole as her main influences and inspirations.
Life and career
1987–2006: Early life
Jazmine Sullivan was born on April 9, 1987 to Don and Pam Sullivan. Her mother is a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. When she was five years old, her father landed a position as a curator for the city's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family moved into the historical landmark.
Sullivan is a 2005 graduate of the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts where she was a vocal music major. Sullivan began singing as a contralto in the children's choir, and later in the adult choir. Sullivan's exposure to secular music was initially limited.
2003–2009: Career beginnings and Fearless
At fifteen, Sullivan signed to Jive Records. She recorded an album, which was never released, and she was eventually dropped from the label. Sullivan provided vocals for Kindred the Family Soul's song, "I Am", as well as background vocals on the song "Party's Over", and the title track to their 2003 debut Surrender to Love, and it was during this session she first met rapper Missy Elliott, who would go on to produce both the majority of her debut album, Fearless, and tracks on Love Me Back. Sullivan wrote and recorded with producers Cool & Dre titled "Say I" was given to Dre's then-girlfriend Christina Milian for her third album, So Amazin'. The song became the lead single, peaking at #13 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, as well as #21 on the Hot 100. Sullivan's breakthrough song, "Need U Bad", was released in May 2008. The song, which featured additional vocals by Missy Elliott and Sandy "Pepa" Denton of Salt-n-Pepa, later debuted at number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent a total of 34 weeks atop of the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs altogether.
Sullivan's debut album Fearless was released on September 23, 2008. At the time, she wrote and composed many of its songs and served as the album's executive producer alongside Missy Elliott, Salaam Remi and Peter Edge. The album received production from Elliott, Remi, Stargate, Carvin & Ivan, Jack Splash, and Fisticuffs. Fearless debuted at number 1 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums and at number 6 on the Billboard 200. Sullivan followed her début single with the release of the second single from Fearless, "Bust Your Windows", which reached number 4 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her most successful single on that chart to date. "Bust Your Windows" appeared on the debut episode of the Fox hit television show Glee and was also nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Song. In 2014, Stevie Wonder claimed he considered "Bust Your Windows" a classic song. "Lions, Tigers & Bears" was released as the album's third single in December 2008. It scored her third consecutive top ten on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, reaching #10, and garnered some mainstream success by reaching number 74 on the Billboard Hot 100. Sullivan later pursued success in the United Kingdom when she first released "Dream Big" as a single in the UK on February 2009. The song was later released as the fourth and final single from the album in April 2009. The album has a gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America, and has sold more than 510,000 copies in the United States.
Sullivan was featured on a song entitled "Smoking Gun" with Jadakiss on his third studio album The Last Kiss. She was also a supporting act for fellow American R&B singer Maxwell on his 2008 US tour and was the opening act for Ne-Yo's 2009 Year of the Gentleman Tour. She additionally appeared on Ace Hood's second studio album, Ruthless, on the song "Champion". She went on to headline a few dates with Ryan Leslie, before participating in the Essence Music Festival in June 2009. That same year, Sullivan appeared in commercials for Cotton Incorporated. Additionally, Sullivan made a guest appearance on Snoop Dogg's tenth studio album Malice n Wonderland on the song "Different Languages".
2009–11: Love Me Back
Sullivan began working on her second album, Love Me Back, in 2009. Producers contributing to the album included Missy Elliott, Lamb, Ne-Yo, Anthony Bell, Los da Mystro, Ryan Leslie, and Salaam Remi, who was also a major contributor to Fearless. Songs recorded for the album include "Love You Long Time", "Don't Make Me Wait" (a tribute to Prince), "Redemption", "Excuse Me", "Good Enough", and the reported sequel to "Bust Your Windows" titled "You Get On My Nerves", which was co-written by Ne-Yo. The album was completed in June 2010 and released on November 30, 2010. The album debuted at number 17 on the Billboard 200 and sold 57,000 copies in its first week.
In an interview with National Public Radio, Sullivan explained that the album was about her personal experiences, stating:
The album's lead single, "Holding You Down (Goin' in Circles)", was released on July 10, 2010. The song debuted at number 60 on the Billboard Hot 100. The music video for the song premiered on August 30, 2010. The song would later be nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in 2011. The album's second single, "10 Seconds", was released to radio airplay in late September, and debuted at number 15 the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. The song was later released for digital download on October 25, 2010. An accompanying music video was later filmed and was released on November 12, 2010.
In early December 2010, Billboard honoured Sullivan as the 'Rising Star' for 2010. She later announced that she was working on her third studio album.
2011–present: Hiatus and Reality Show
In January 2011, Sullivan announced via Twitter that she was indefinitely leaving the music industry saying, "I promised myself when it wasn't fun anymore I wouldn't do it. And, here I am. I'm not saying I won't ever sing again in my life because I don't believe that. But in this moment… right now… [I] got some things to figure out". On October 7, RCA Records announced it was disbanding J Records along with Arista Records and Jive Records. With the shutdown, Sullivan (and all other artists previously signed to these three labels).
In 2014, she returned to music with the announcement of her new album, Reality Show. In an interview with Billboard, Sullivan described her return as inevitable, saying she "...can't escape [her] calling". She based Reality Show on watching reality shows during her hiatus which inspired the namesake. The album consists of 14 songs, and features production from Key Wane and Salaam Remi. The lead single "Dumb", featuring American rapper Meek Mill, was released on May 12, 2014. The song debuted at number 45 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay. The second single "Forever Don't Last" was released on September 16, 2014. It debuted at number 10 on the Adult R&B Songs.
On January 13, 2015, Jazmine Sullivan released Reality Show to widespread critical acclaim, with the album reaching #1 on the Billboard R&B Albums and #2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Reality Show sold 30,000 copies in its first week. Slant Magazine commented, "Despite what the rasp in her voice might suggest, Sullivan clearly sees herself as something other than R&B's next great queen of pain. Her central themes—love and self-image—don't stray far from genre convention, but her musical versatility and keenly observed characters make her one of the most captivating artists in R&B today." The album earned Sullivan three Grammy Award nominations for Best Traditional R&B Performance and Best R&B Album.
In 2016, Sullivan was featured in the visual album "Endless" by Frank Ocean. Sullivan lent her vocals to four songs from the album: "Alabama", "Wither", "Hublots", and "Rushes". Sullivan was the lead writer for these four songs on Mary J. Blige's album Strength of a Woman, and sang backup vocals on the first three of them: "Thick of It", "Set Me Free", "Glow Up", and "Thank You." ("Strength of a Woman" album liner notes). She in partnership with fellow American singer Bryson Tiller released "Insecure" for the soundtrack for the second season of the HBO series of the same title.
In 2019, Sullivan was featured on Pentatonix’s Christmas collection The Best of Pentatonix Christmas on the group’s cover of “Joyful, Joyful”.
Musical style and artistry
Sonically, Sullivan's voice alternates between "modern productions" and a "1980s-influenced sound" which music critics say gives her "old-school hip hop sound". Her vocal range is identified as mezzo-soprano. Her voice has a solid agility in all registers and is well connected between an A2 and a G5. InStyle said that she has a "raspy voice". She describes her writing style as "flashbacks", in reference to her songs about failed relationships that were both physically and emotionally abusive. Her music displays her responses to these relationships famously with her song "Bust Your Windows". She likes to write about how she is feeling, which in turn, taking a day or up to a month to complete. During the recording of the album Reality Show, Sullivan spent so much time revising and re-recording, that the producers had to force her to release the album to prevent a delayed release. Sullivan is well known for writing her own songs which amplifies her universal critical acclaim from critics and fans.
Awards and achievements
At the 51st Annual Grammy Awards in 2009, Sullivan was nominated for awards in the categories of Best New Artist, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best Traditional R&B Performance, Best R&B Song and Best Contemporary R&B Album. The success of her debut album Fearless saw Sullivan nominated for three BET Awards in the categories of Best New Artist, Best Female R&B Artist and the Centric Award, but only winning the Centric Award. She was also nominated for the Outstanding New Artist award at the NAACP Image Awards.
At the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, Sullivan was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song for her song, "Lions, Tigers & Bears". In 2010, Sullivan won the Rising Star award at the Billboard Women in Music. At the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards, "Holding You Down (Goin' in Circles)", the lead single from her second studio album Love Me Back, earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in 2011. Released in 2015, Sullivan's third album, Reality Show, sold thirty thousand copies in the first week. Reality Show earned her three Grammy nominations and two NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Female Artist and Outstanding Song for "Let It Burn".
At the 49th NAACP Image Awards, Sullivan was nominated for Outstanding Song for "Insecure", a song that she and Bryson Tiller collaborated on for the soundtrack of the second season of the HBO series of the same name. Sullivan's most notable song "Bust Your Windows" was listed at number 140 on National Public Radio's list of The 200 Greatest Songs By 21st Century Women.

October 21
Ooooh, live!
On this date in 1973, Beck, Bogert and Appice released their album, Live.
It was originally an only-in-Japan kind of thing, then it was order it as an import and then it was just like any other release. It's a talkbox freakout!
On this date in 1977, Genesis released their live album, Seconds Out.
It's Melanie's favorite Genesis album, and seems to me most Genesis fans wouldn't agree; they'd either be all Abacab or all Nursery Cryme or some shit. Middle period after Gabriel but before the hits not getting the love, you know what I mean? I could be wrong.
Today is the 25th anniversary of the release of Lapsed, Bardo Pond's third album.
On the 21st of October, 2003, Pink Floyd or really the people around them disseminated Live At Pompeii: The Directors Cut, the definitive version of the concept film of their concert played to the thousand-year dead, or whatever you wanna call it.

Best Movies Coming to Netflix in September 2021
https://ift.tt/3jtujPt
Fall is here. Almost. Technically we’re in the last grips of summer’s dog days right now, with Americans gearing up for a three-day weekend by the grill. But Netflix at least isn’t ready to leave the sunniest months alone, as indicated by a number of the major films coming to streaming in the next few weeks, including iconic summer spectacles like Jaws… plus Jaws 2 and all those other seaside sequels.
But there’s more than red dye in the water to enjoy in the below outings for those content to stay home as things continue to stay weird out there. From cult classic science fiction to a Spike Lee masterpiece, here is the best of what to expect from your favorite streaming service.
Blade Runner: The Final Cut (1982)
September 1
Of the many versions floating out there in the ether of Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, this is the best one. Only a slight reworking of the director’s cut—complete with new footage being shot to fix a particularly troublesome wig during one stunt—the Final Cut is a refined distillation of the science fiction thriller that increasingly looks like a masterpiece with each new iteration. Dense, evocative, and strangely beautiful in its fatalism, Blade Runner remains the quintessential blending of sci-fi and noir, and a haunting work about what it means to be human.
Harrison Ford plays Deckard in the film, a laconic cop in an apocalyptic and rain soaked Los Angeles. His beat? To hunt down and exterminate replicants (robots) who disobey their programming and go rogue. Yet to the frustration of early 1982 audiences, and the film’s producers, Blade Runner is not a movie particularly concerned with plot. It’s about the mood evoked by its exquisite nightmare of tomorrow, and the realization that our toasters can be more soulful than you or I.
Clear and Present Danger (1994)
September 1
We know what you’re thinking: Isn’t Jack Ryan over on Amazon? That may be true of his current iteration with actor John Krasinski, but if you want to see Tom Clancy’s originally not-so-super spy done right, we recommend this delightfully dated ‘90s action classic. Starring Harrison Ford at the peak of his grumpy dad phase, Clear and Present Danger is the third Jack Ryan movie and arguably the best one after The Hunt for Red October. Like that other Ryan high bar, there is a winsomely nerdy fascination with the technical side of spycraft at the end of the 20th century here, as well as the political undercurrents which can leave even the most well-meaning spooks high and dry.
The ostensible plot is about the then-popular drug war, with Ford’s noble if weary Ryan finding himself swept up in the politics of Colombian drug cartels. However, the film’s real villain in the U.S. president whom Ryan serves, a man who uses the U.S. intelligence and military as his personal hit squad to settle scores, and then leaves them stranded when it becomes politically convenient. In many ways this is a prescient film about the 21st century to come. Which is to say that Clear and Present Danger has just enough brains to make its explosions matter. And yes, there are ‘splosions.
Cold Mountain (2003)
September 1
A movie that it’s hard to imagine folks making today, Cold Mountain is a Civil War epic which eschews the usual trappings of dramas set during that era. The film’s main characters are North Carolinians who find themselves drawn into the Confederate cause of secession (and thereby slavery), although Jude Law’s Inman is no slaveholder. In fact, he has no real reason to be fighting the war, which is why after seeing years of carnage he goes AWOL, embarking on a Homeric quest to return to his Cold Mountain home and the sweetheart waiting there for him, Ada (Nicole Kidman).
Not that things are much better back in the poverty of Appalachia where Ada’s land has fallen on hard times. Living under the tyranny of the home guard, Ada and her own sorrows on the domestic front complement Inman’s, revealing the horrible futility of war from many perspectives. A bit overwrought in places (Cold Mountain was clearly designed to win Oscars), there is nevertheless an earthy authenticity about this yarn which is impossible to ignore.
Do the Right Thing (1989)
September 1
Spike Lee’s seminal masterpiece is as potent 32 years later as the day it was released. A funny, heartbreaking, infuriating, and ultimately thrilling experience, Do the Right Thing proves as elusively complex as its misleadingly optimistic title. It’s also just a blast to watch.

Blade Runner: How Its Problems Made It a Better Movie
By Ryan Britt
An ensemble piece, Do the Right Thing primarily focuses on Lee as Mookie, a delivery man for his neighborhood’s pizza joint owned by Sal (Danny Aiello). The relationship between the white business man and the Black employee, and what that means for the predominantly Black Brooklyn neighborhood of Bedford–Stuyvesant, is explored from every angle as both men, plus Mookie’s whole community, endure the hottest day of the year. Tensions rise, prejudices are exposed, and an ending involving a young Black man and violent police officers, and a trash can and a window, remains as poignant as ever.
Green Lantern (2011)
September 1
Ah, Green Lantern. Remember when this movie was supposed to be the launching pad for the DC Cinematic Universe or whatever it ended up being called? Following the gritty realism of Christopher Nolan’s first two Batman movies, the loopy cosmic vibe of this would-be epic was just not what audiences were expecting to see. And even with all the visual pyrotechnics, an earnest try from a somewhat miscast Ryan Reynolds in the title role, and a great turn by Mark Strong as anti-hero Sinestro, the movie just came across as uninspired and unfocused.
Part of the problem may have been hiring Casino Royale director Martin Campbell—known for bringing Bond back to Earth—to helm what is essentially an uneasy mix of superhero origin story and space opera. Campbell does his best, as do actors like Reynolds, Strong, Tim Robbins, and Angela Bassett, but the script is too saddled with stuff. The primary villain is a cloud and the secondary villain—Peter Sarsgaard in a puffy head—is chewing the scenery in another movie entirely. We may get a good Green Lantern movie one day, but this one is best enjoyed while cleaning the house or getting drunk.
Mystery Men (1999)
September 1
Made in a time before superhero films became a Hollywood mainstay, Mystery Men is an artifact from a bygone era. The admittedly overstuffed superhero comedy made by “Got Milk?” commercial director Kinka Usher flopped at the box office, despite having an ensemble cast that included Ben Stiller, Hank Azaria, William H. Macy, Greg Kinnear, Janeane Garofalo, Paul Reubens, Lena Olin, Geoffrey Rush, Eddie Izzard, and Claire Forlani. Perhaps 1999 wasn’t ready for a superhero satire about a team of lesser superheroes who are asked to save the day?

Blade Runner 2049 and the Role of Joi in a Joyless World
By David Crow
Likely, this concept would do much better today in a pop culture climate where superhero subversions like The Boys and Watchmen have thrived. Sadly, this wasn’t to be the fate for Mystery Men, which made only $33 million at the box office against a budget of $68 million. The cult classic may yet find its time to shine on the Netflix Top Ten and, if not, it will always be able to boast its connection to Smash Mouth’s “All Star” music video, which features characters from the film.
Once Upon a Time in America (1984)
September 1
The story behind the last film ever directed by the great Italian filmmaker Sergio Leone is as fascinating as the picture itself. Having made his reputation as the king of spaghetti Westerns—and then transcending the genre with films like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Once Upon a Time in the West—Leone set his sights on gangsters in 20th century America. But his nearly four-hour epic was severely truncated down to 139 minutes and rendered almost incomprehensible in America where it failed spectacularly. Meanwhile the original version remained largely unseen until it was restored in 2012.
Leone’s methodical and occasionally dreamlike esthetic might still be a tough sit for some audiences, but we hope that Netflix is indeed showing the full-length version (this is the company that backed The Irishman, for Chrissakes, which probably wouldn’t exist without Leone’s influence). It’s an expansive, truly gripping epic that stretches across a 50-year span, encompassing Prohibition, Italian, and Jewish criminal mobs, plus politics and more in a vast portrait of a corrupt American dream. It’s been called one of the greatest gangster films of all time, and rightly so.
School of Rock (2003)
September 1
Bless the movie gods above for a filmmaker like Richard Linklater. Typically an indie darling known for time-bending cinematic experiments such as the Before Sunrise trilogy and Boyhood, the Dazed and Confused filmmaker can still also do genuinely great mainstream entertainment when he wants to. Hence his partnering with the oft-underrated talent of Jack Black. Together, they made an all-time family classic between them in School of Rock.

Jaws: Why the USS Indianapolis Speech is Steven Spielberg’s Favorite Scene
By David Crow
The plot, if you somehow haven’t seen it, involves Black playing an out-of-work rocker who cons his way into becoming a prestigious private school’s new music teacher—one who’d rather teach his kids about the awesomeness of KISS or Led Zeppelin than Mozart and Beethoven. He even gets the kids to start a rock band! The supreme appeal of the movie, however, is the interest and affection Linklater showers onto Black as well as his entire cast of talented youngsters, who all get to shine and help build this Zoomer touchstone. That includes future iCarly star Miranda Cosgrove as Black’s pint-sized nemesis turned frenemy.
Jaws (1975)
September 16
Arguably the greatest summer blockbuster ever made, there is no debate over the fact that Jaws kickstarted this type of summer spectacle. Which makes returning to it now kind of remarkable when one realizes how grounded and real Steven Spielberg’s primal horror still feels. And we’re not talking about the killer shark; Great Whites do not behave this way, nor do they look like that rubber monstrosity fans affectionately refer to as “Bruce.”
Rather the film’s paradox of being a thriller intended for adults during New Hollywood’s golden age in the 1970s, as well as being the accidental creation of the summer blockbuster, means the film maintains a surprising degree of naturalism and complexity among its three central characters, and their various motives for getting in a boat to do primordial battle with a fish like something out of a Hemingway book. Plus, in addition to the terror of not seeing the shark for most of the movie and Spielberg instead relying on John Williams’ nerve-shattering score, the film’s depiction of politicians who will let their voters get eaten before listening to the scientists hits especially close to home these days.
Jaws 2 (1978)
September 16
The making of Jaws 2, which was inevitable following the unprecedented success of Steven Spielberg’s classic 1975 original, was beset with as many problems as the first film. The first, of course, was that Spielberg did not return to direct; that task fell to John D. Hancock (Let’s Scare Jessica to Death), who was replaced prior to filming by Jeannot Szwarc. The script was constantly revised as well, and star Roy Scheider was apparently unhappy that he was contractually obligated to show up.
In the end, Jaws 2 isn’t a bad film; it’s just a pointless one. The town of Amity is plagued, improbably enough, by a second shark, and once again the mayor (Murray Hamilton, somehow reelected after pulling a Ron DeSantis in the first movie) idiotically refuses to heed Chief Brody’s warnings. The film’s centerpiece is the shark’s relentless attack on a bunch of teens headed out to sea in a small flotilla of boats, and Szwarc generates some real tension and horror even if we see way more of the monster this time. There’s no way Jaws 2 can match the greatness of its predecessor, but considering what came afterward, we’ll take what we can get.
