Too Late to Save Them: Frozen in Time
Too Late to Save Them Intro
Part 2
The ghost zone is infinite, never ending. Danny continued to float along in a daze. Months go by, but he doesn’t notice.
He does notice he is getting. . . cold. Shivering, but otherwise blocks it out. It doesn’t matter.
Maybe he’s fully dying.
His limbs begin to freeze up.
It doesn’t matter.
Can’t see anymore.
Doesn’t matter.
Can’t hear anymore.
Nothing matters.
. . .
The ice built around Danny, cocooning him.
Placing him in a deep sleep as his body continued to float along in the ghost zone.
. . .
Paul had seen the strange green glow fade away as it left. . . something in the snow.
He trudged over. It was. . . ice? A big chunk of ice? Like a mini iceberg.
That was tomorrow’s problem.
. . .
He had gotten busy, and forgotten about the green circle and the ice that was left behind.
By now it was spring. The snow had all but melted, and as he trudged back into his field. . . the ice was still there.
Confused, but a little intrigued, he did a rough measurement around it and figured he would check its size the next day.
It was the same.
He decided to go to the towns library and read up on icebergs. They had bad winters in Wisconsin, but he had never heard of this happening before.
He returned a week later to the ice. No change.
By now the leftover snow was long gone. . . but the large ice growler didn’t melt.
Paul decided to chip off two pieces. One to leave beside the ice, and one to take home to one of the heat lamps.
His thinking? Perhaps the large ice was just . . not thawing, because it was too big? So the small pieces should be able to melt. However, the world was a strange place.
Aliens existed. Good ones that looked human, and freaky ones that said they were good, but Paul wasn’t sure about that. His daughter mentioned that was being prejudiced; he agreed he probably was, but also got her to agree that the freaky one naming itself “Martian Manhunter” wasn’t giving himself any favors.
There were also humans that had some genetic thing, he thinks they’re called meta’s? Existed now too.
Maybe this was one of those strange things.
. . .
Paul scratched his head.
The ice he brought home refused to melt.
He even put it in the oven.
It was still cold when he pulled it out.
Maybe this was radiated ice.
Hm.
It wasn’t melting.
He left it for another day.

His fridge had finally called it quits.
He had already duct taped and jury-rigged it through the months, but at this point it was time to get a new one. Or. . .
A couple of Ice pieces later, his freezer and fridge were now holding varying sizes of the ice chips.
Well at least his strange find was useful.
