"Silence and the Earth" performed at Redwing Blackbird Theater in Rosendale, NY founded by Amy and Andy Trompetter in 1969. Also featuring music by Fossilhunter, or Patrick Branigan, one of my friends from school in the painting department. We played a little show and performed our play in a garage turned into puppet theater, filled with the most beautiful paper-machete puppets holding environmental protests, painted flowers, instruments of every stripe, everything made of recycled materials.
Amy Trompetter, is one of the trully most kindred and inspiring spirits I've ever met. I've never encountered someone at her age with so much uncompromising life and spirit. Her DIY spirit of bringing theater, poetry, puppetry to those who don't normally do it at Redwing Blackbird Theater has similar values as to what we aspire to do. It is the most encouraging thing to know that theater like this exist. Thanks to Casey Llewellyn a former mentor of mine, for helping with setting up this show!
Here is there mission statement:
Redwing Blackbird Theater uses the art of puppetry to sing out with the varied nuances and overtones of our pre-language state of being. Puppets can express what cannot be said in words. Puppets also use words to say things that people cannot say, and they get away with it. We bring puppets into communities and make shows and parades with people who do not normally do theater. Over the past 40 years our most effective workshops have been in refugee camps in Africa and prisons in New York State. Now we are making puppet parades and shows to support Occupy Wall Street encampments on the east coast.
