Dino Spiluttini – To Be a Beast LP (Cut Surface) / Stromboli – Volume Uno LP (Maple Death) / Ornament – A Lion Is a Lion 12” EP (Sleeping Giant Glossolalia)
RECOMMENDED
We are deep into an era of narrative noise artists, the genre nuanced enough from oppressive, whiteout-condition power electronics and meaning-saturated loops of decay to find a medium place, so to speak, with painterly ambition and omnivorous genre trappings which they mold into the artists’ liking. These records require deeper evaluation as they plumb expected depths with intense modifications.
Dino Spiluttini, based out of Austria and formerly of decent post-punk group Bruch, bookends his latest in a series of similarly-structured recordings (the sounds stemmed from recordings of brickwalled piano and tape loops, ruptured until they warp in and out of phase), bookending supernatural powers/fears (“Silver Bullets,” “The Apparition”) with multiple tracks titled with drug references, as well as paeans to his cat, and Perfume Genius-esque approximations of the weight of doing things (“Learn 2 Love”). These aspirations are more cinematic than musical, particularly given the lack of any lyrics or dialogue; we’re meant to feel whatever “Opioids III” is to Spiluttini, and for you that may be a go or a no-go. Listening doesn’t invest you in whatever problems the artist faces day to day, so much as it creates an infinite, nuanced space for understanding.
Stromboli’s gauge for understanding is a sleight-of-hand trick to get you to grasp his understanding of yet more artists’ visions. Claiming the films Purple Rain and Michael Mann’s Thief as inspirations, Italian noise artist Stromboli generates a world of tape reverb and delay, redline synth, percussion loops like wrenches dropped down an air shaft, and imagined communities set to live under immense industrial HVAC units, cooling the earth as it dries up. The end result is kinetic, shadowy, draped in black leather and refusing to budge. It’s telling how in many ways both Volume Uno and To Be a Beast meet Flying Saucer Attack at his own game circa 1993, both in the oversaturation and time-shifting of sonic priorities. “Popul Vuh 1” indeed.
Falling right between each side of this creative argument is Ornament’s new EP. Joe Denardo, formerly of Growing, doesn’t hide his intentions or methods – guitar, minivan-sized amp cabinet, some synth and prepared drum loops, pronounced as fuck – as the stoic heroic, blaring down from the hilltop, shadowing the sun. The riffs are kinda melty on the outside, the detuned declension of chordal shift layered carefully around auras of growling noise, their overall message at once overwhelming and fearfully direct. Whatever intentions are here belong as much to the artist as they do to the essence of rock/roll music, in particular the celestial repose of “Mirror, Which Is My Eye” and the skyward burn of “Whiskey + Water.” All three of these records will get you to roughly the same place, though the stories change. We’re made to feel empowered by each, by emotion, by mise en scene, by iconography, shared experience running through them all. reveiew of taylor swift - 1989 (deluxe)
my thoughts: this is one of the most hyped albums of the year so of corse i had to get my ears around this1. people saying this is the greatest thing sence rick rosses debut album and michael jacksons thriller. first off tho taylor says good buy to country singing with a dancey track called 'welcome to new york' which to me sounds like a song off pixar's meet the robinsons. theres some prety tight drum and vocal shit goin on in some of the traxx but mostly she goes on and on and on about her countless brakeups...tough life...
most badass lyric: she says literlly LODES of bad ass thing but the way she says them dosent sound bad ass. from out of the woods: "remeber when u hit the breaks to soon? 20 stitches in the hospital room" or from welcome to new york: "welcom to new york" that might sound sick coming from nas or jayz but from tayler swift it was more of a julie andrews sound of music vibe
funniest lyric: from shake it off:
"I stay out too late Got nothing in my brain That's what people say That's what people say I go on too many dates But I can't make 'em stay At least that's what people say That's what people say"
basically ppl are accusing her of stuff but insted of undressing the problem she just talks about how shes just gona cruise around and dance and stuff
(also from new romantics: "the best people in life are free" i have a feeling taylor and lil b would butt heads if they ever met)
dopest beat: "style" ...well maybe just the intro...(most great songs loose theyre steam after the intro anyways) that beat had my head bobing. couldnt control myself. i want it to be my new "walking places theme song" (sorry "its too late" by carole king) im still gona have its too late by carole king as my trying to get ppl to notice my new pants song.
rate album title 1-10: mmm...maybe 2 stars sence the name is prety shit
rate songs 1-10 stars: beats were decent suprisingly but the lyrical content was crap. hows 5 stars sound?
rate cover art 1-10: 1 star. shes trying to say thats her in 1989? thats lodes of yrs ago u know. no way on earth she look that young still. also why the sharpie writing? they got lodes of cool free fonts out there. poorly done.
overal 1-10 stars: 5 stars. im havin a hard time tryin to feel bad for her...she gives me the feeling shes like a female version of manwhore. if 1 things for certain...this girl knows how she wana be treated and definately wants u to remebmer her but idk if she gona take her own advise. doesnt seem like she talks abot anything besides relationships and maybe that why she goes through so many men...when they on dates all she says to him all night is "we're on a date" and when its over she cracks open her lyrics notebook. overall i feel stupid like she was bullshitting me with her tails of "true love" but i dont trust her like i couldent never trust food from a bulimic chef
what should i reveiw next?

revieiw of in the MachINE by pretty bird
thankxs again youngassoul! (yall shoud folow this guy specialy if u like wrestling pictures and stuf. its prety cool)
my thoughts: thought this1 mite be a badass dirty south kina sound sence its from goergia. (recorded by jessie magnum same as murk dady flux...this is prolly jesse magnums worst thing yet) im tryna figure out what these guys are tryna be. "wake up" was so annoyen... prolly worse then rlly waken up. i think these guys got to gether an tryed to make a wierd band that woud blow mindes. one of the tracks featured green gerry the tv head guy..small world i know. i think this is music what hipsters listen to make. i think they listen 2 other stuff tho. i can see it now all 5 of em layin on the floor of the cofee shop ..shoeless.. playen with distorshin pedals and singen into a mic and one of them gets up to preform a dance. not that theyres anything wrong with that.
most badass lyric: pass
funniest lyric: from donwanna "i dont wana work 4x i just wana make noizeeee" funy to me as i think this lyrics was taken from a leter they wrote to theyre parents. i dont wana work dont wana work i just wana live in ur baaaaaasement
dopest beat: "cause were in the same song" but id hardly call it dope
rate songs 1-10 stars: 2 stars just plane boren. not rlly any good singres in the group but they coud prolly get lesons for that. mainly i wish they had more drums an more base thats all just singen lessins drums and base.
rate cover art 1-10: 2 stars... nothin 2 see hear... just some hairy nippels.. cept for that guy up front who looks like he shaves his chest<<disterbing ....theyre also painted like that gotye video...prolly theyre conected to gotye somehow they also look a bit like him posibley related.
overal 1-10 stars: 2 stras... none of the songs where very funkey at all but at least theyr not maken u pay for it so if u got a little empty harddrive space go an fill it up now!
