@REDDEMCEE86 Teams Up With Mars Noel For EP 'Diplomacy'

The three track EP features rappers, Nobi 1 and Dr Mortis, who both take turns to drop unfiltered wordplay against the silky smooth, old school boom bap with occasional melodic chants. ‘Diplomacy’ is a nostalgic collection that will be appreciated by anyone who loves hip-hop/boom bap of the…

Hey there! I found your blog last Wednesday, and I gotta say, it's about time someone showed this misbegotten movie some love! I've also been reading Ziggy Cashmere's ebook Drawing For Nothing, which includes all sorts of old material from the film - and even directs you to an early draft of the script! Awesome-sauce! Aside from that, I want to know your thoughts on the proposed franchise Larry wanted to make out of the movie, including sequels, video games, books, live stage performances, etc.?
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you're enjoying my blog, and yes, Drawing For Nothing is fantastic isn't it? There's a lot more where that came from too, with Ziggy currently working on a documentary called "ROTTEN: Behind The Foodfight" (see my last post for more info on that). It should be coming out very soon, so stay tuned for that! I was fortunate enough to be involved in it, even making a small cameo at one point, and I can't wait for everyone to see the plethora of incredible behind-the-scenes material he's uncovered.
And yes, I read that early draft of the Foodfight! script a while ago and I'll talk about it some more once the documentary is out It's a draft from April 2005 and is VERY similar to the novelization, but there are still a bunch of interesting differences worth discussing. For one, the script includes all the real-world mascot cameos intended to be in the movie (such as M&Ms, Pringles, Oscar Mayer etc.) which were excluded from the novelization presumably due to brand deals not extending to merchandising. This actually leads to some surprising changes in the plot and dialogue, some of which I find incredibly funny, so there'll be a whole lot to talk about!
Anyway, as for my thoughts on the proposed franchise? I think it could've worked, I really do. Not to the extent Larry Kasanoff dreamed of- I don't think there was anyway the proposed "Foodfight! On Ice" show was ever going to happen (there's no way the Brand X soldiers could goosestep in iceskates, come on now). I think that's dreaming too big too soon, the "Disney On Ice" shows didn't happen until Disney had already been making movies for decades. That said, I do think if the production of Foodfight! hadn't been so horribly mismanaged and had come out when it was intended to it would've been somewhat of a hit, and to that end some of the merchandising ideas were really smart. Stuff like the tie-in videogame, children's books, and videogames were just what a lot of movies had back then- this was 2006, every movie had a sidescroller on the GBA and a 3D platformer on the PS2. From what little we've seen of the game it's impossible to know how good it would've been, but those kind of movie tie-ins are usually pretty harmless.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for the other merchandise, a lot of it WAS released...and I think it's pretty great for what it is! If all of the books, toys etc. had just released alongside the movie as intended, then they'd just seem like exactly what they are - merchandise made to promote a recently released children's film, and there'd be nothing much to discuss about them. They're all only so fascinating because the movie itself came out so badly, and so the merchandise provides a glimpse at what might've been had things gone better. That said, I still desperately want to make a post talking about the Deluxe Sound Storybook at some point, and hopefully I'll get the chance soon.
I don't think Foodfight! ever would've been popular enough to warrant a sequel- I think it would've been like Hoodwinked where some people look back on it fondly but it's largely been forgotten over the years, and I don't think Threshold (the studio who animated Foodfight!) would have ever been the "next Pixar" like Larry Kasanoff thought they'd be either. But maybe in another world, where the production of Foodfight! went as smooth as butter, for a time there'd have been a real Cinnamon Sleuth Cereal with a free Dex Dogtective toy inside. Ten years later someone would make a post on Reddit saying "Hey! Anyone else remember Cinnamon Sleuth?" and a series of pointless arguments about the movie's blatant commercialism would fire up in the comments. And that wouldn't be such a bad legacy to have, right...?

There's no disputing Snoop Dogg's iconic status.
From that lanky kid from Long Beach in the early 1990s who shot to stardom (and infamy) as the biggest star on Death Row Records, to the venerated elder statesman who might be the most famous rapper in the world; Calvin Broadus is a blueprint for how to do rap stardom the right way.
His early hits set the standard for G-Funk, as Snoop's charisma and laconic drawl made him a superstar and took that Cali-based sound to the top of the charts. He took a turn down South in the late 1990s, signing with No Limit Records for what turned out to be a strong stretch to close the millennium, and he became a pop culture mainstay in the 2000s, scoring monster hits with everyone from Dr. Dre to Timbaland to, perhaps most notably, Pharrell and The Neptunes.
Through it all, he's maintained his near-universal appeal, he's a West Coast icon who isn't bound to any coast; a 90s veteran who transcends era, and a brand and movement unto himself. Snoop is everywhere. We picked 25 of his greatest songs. Believe us—it wasn't easy.
#26
"THAT GIRL" - PHARRELL FEAT. SNOOP DOGG [BONUS SONG]
Our BONUS SONG pick is a celebrated classic guest spot! There are certain artists the superproducer Pharrell just has great chemistry with, and one is the legendary Doggfather. One of the breeziest tunes he ever crafted.
#25
"CALIFORNIA ROLL" FEAT. STEVIE WONDER
Snoop re-embraced AutoTune on this breezy song that sounds like it could be a lost track from Stevie's classic 70s period. The legendary singer/songwriter provides vocals and harmonica to the track.
#24
"LIFE OF DA PARTY"
A West Coast anthem that perfectly captures the club sound of the early 2000s. That specific period after crunk, but before trap found AutoTune and percocets. Too $hort and Mistah FAB do their thing over production from Scoop DeVille.
#23
"SIGNS" FEAT. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE AND CHARLIE WILSON
Snoop's shift to romantic odes was fairly seamless, and he made it look easy. Grown man Snoop was in full effect on this hit single from R&G: RHYTHM & GANGSTA.

#22
"YOUNG, WILD & FREE" FEAT. BRUNO MARS, WIZ KHALIFA
Snoop has mastered cross-generational appeal, and nowhere is that more evident than his work with Wiz Khalifa. With an assist from Bruno Mars, Snoop proved he's forever young with this single from MAC AND DEVIN GO TO HIGH SCHOOL.
#21
"G'Z UP, HOES DOWN"
This "lost" track was a standout on the immaculate DOGGY STYLE, but only showed up on early pressings of the album. Because of difficulties getting the Isaac Hayes sample cleared (that's "The Look Of Love"), it was removed from the album.
#20
"UPS & DOWNS/BANG OUT"
Over a flip of the Bee Gees' "Love You Inside Out," Snoop gets real about loyalty. R&G: RHYTHM & GANGSTA is one of Snoop's best efforts, and this single is one of the more underappreciated releases from that period.
#19
"SENSUAL SEDUCTION/SEXUAL ERUPTION"
Produced by Shawty Redd, this monster hit single remains one of the biggest smashes Snoop ever released, and featured the Long Beach legend fully embracing AutoTune. One part parody, one part outside-the-box musicality, it's still Snoop being Snoop.
#18
"LET'S GET BLOWN" FEAT. PHARRELL WILLIAMS
Snoop and The Neptunes were locked in by the time they dropped this follow-up to one of the rapper's biggest hits. The coolass vibe is perfect for latter-period, grown man Snoop.
#17
"LODI DODI"
Snoop almost single-handedly legitimized making outright covers in Hip-Hop, with this remake of the Slick Rick/Doug E. Fresh classic "Ladi Dadi." Snoop takes the famous tale straight to Long Beach, and shows just how much he reveres MC Ricky D.
#16
"FROM THA CHUUUCH TO DA PALACE" FEAT. PHARRELL WILLIAMS
The first single from the hit album PAID THE COST TO BE THE BO$$ featured Snoop's first high-profile collaboration with the hitmaking Neptunes. The song wouldn't smash the charts like the single that followed (more on that later), but is one of Snoop's most recognized early 00s tracks.
#15
"STILL A G THANG"
Snoop had landed on No Limit Records in the late 1990s, and he blended with the NOLA label's rat-a-tat bounce better than expected. But this single made it clear that he was keeping his West Coast G-Funk sound, even at his new digs.
#14
"VAPORS"
After his cover of Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick's "La Di, Da Di," Snoop set his sights on a Juice Crew classic. Snoop reworked Biz Markie's beloved "Vapors," showcasing just how well the Golden Age sample of James Brown's "Papa Don't Take No Mess" melded with G-Funk's groove.
#13
"WOOF!" FEAT. C-MURDER, MYSTIKAL
As Death Row seemed to be in a state of collapse circa 1998, Snoop (no longer "Doggy") Dogg resurfaced as a soldier for the No Limit tank. Master P's house welcomed the West Coast superstars with open arms, and this is the kind of posse cut only Beats By The Pound could deliver.
#12
"MURDER WAS THE CASE"
One of the darkest entries on Snoop's classic debut album, this tale finds the protagonist facing death and slipping into his own, personal hell. Part cautionary tale, part reference to the rapper's own real-life drama playing out at the time, it's one of the greatest songs in his catalog.
#11
"DOGGY DOGG WORLD" FEAT. THA DOGG POUND, THE DRAMATICS
The pimptastic video is one of the most memorable of the 90s; and the groove is pure 70s funk, highlighting how deeply indebted to that era G-funk had been.
#10
"DROP IT LIKE IT'S HOT"
Again: Pharrell and Snoop's chemistry has always been undeniable. When you put the VA kid and the D-O-Double G in the studio together, you're likely to get summer classics. It's just a given.
#9
"B*TCH, PLEASE"
A new millennium banger that made it clear to everyone that there was still no more potent combination that Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, this smash single was a precursor to Dre's stellar 2001.
#8
"G'Z & HUSTLAZ"
Opening with that classic classroom skit, and carried by a winning sample from the late, great Bernard Wright, this coulda-been-a-single is one of the best album cuts on DOGGY STYLE.
#7
"WHAT'S MY NAME, PT. 2"
Snoop teamed up with Timbaland for this lead single from his acclaimed final No Limit Records album, THA LAST MEAL. Another song that became one of Snoop's most recognized of the period.
#6
"LAY LOW" FEAT. MASTER P, BUTCH CASSIDY, NATE DOGG, THA EASTSIDAZ
The second single from THE LAST MEAL was another heater featuring Snoop teaming up with Dr. Dre. This time he brought along No Limit boss Master P, as well as his Eastsidaz homies and Butch Cassidy.
#5
"AIN'T NO FUN" FEAT. NATE DOGG, THA DOGG POUND, WARREN G
A classic Death Row posse cut that would probably get banned if it was released today. Yes, it's one of the most problematic songs of all time. But what a banger! Daz ghost-produced this G-funk staple.
#4
"THE SHIZNIT"
It flips the chorus from Billy Joel's "The Stranger" into something new entirely, and this classic track from Snoop's debut album DOGGY STYLE has one of the most sinister grooves in all of G-Funk.
#3
"BEAUTIFUL"
Forever a vibe! It just sounds like warm beaches and cool drinks, surrounded by your favorite people, soaking up the sun. If that doesn't fit your scene, just enjoy the ambience, homie. It works no matter where you are.
#2
"WHO AM I (WHAT'S MY NAME?)"
It's so P-Funk-like, it's like you can hear George Clinton sitting in the room. Nobody would ever have trouble remembering his name again. Shoutout to "Atomic Dog."
#1
"GIN & JUICE"
Another ode to getting drunk as hell, Snoop's second single cemented him as the most unique new voice in the game back in 1994. All these years later, it's a staple of the sound and era, a true G-Funk classic.

EVILGIANE & SLIMESITO SHARE NEW SINGLE "DESIGNER DRUGZ"
youtube
Fresh off a 2024 GRAMMY“Best Rap Performance” nomination for his work on Kendrick Lamar & Baby Keem’s “The Hillbillies”, Surf Gang founding member evilgiane and the prolific rapper Slimesito have just shared their new single "DESIGNER DRUGZ" from the duo’s highly-anticipated EVILSLIME collab mixtape – out on 5/3. The announcement arrives on the heels of evilgiane’s January mixtape #HEAVENSGATE VOL. 1, which boasted features from the likes of Rx Papi, 454, Bear1Boss, Nettspend, and Slimesito himself – it was instantly met with critical acclaim from The FADER, Stereogum, Hypebeast and Pitchfork, who gave the project a score of 7.3, praising the producer for "inviting hyper-regional talent to slide over a collection of exquisitely fine-tuned beats that position him as a superproducer in the making". Slimesito is fresh off a European tour that spanned across 7 countries, and the forthcoming tape follows his recent single "Pray 4 Me" (feat. Trippie Redd). Defined by colorful production and playful lyricism, "DESIGNER DRUGZ” is a spirited outing that sets the stage for the duo’s first joint tape. An enigmatic mainstay in the world of underground Hip-Hop since the 2010s, Slimesito’s full-length link-up with evilgiane has been teased and highly-coveted – ”DESIGNER DRUGZ” finally sets the stage, serving as a high-energy track bolstered by a carefree hook (“I feel like Pablo, man, the way that I’m dabbing / I’m off designer drugs, they match with my fashion”), while Slimesito’s melodic flow is a strong complement to evilgiane’s dreamy sonic landscapes. Their first joint outing since #HEAVENSGATE VOL. 1 cuts “INFORMANTS” and “LIL WAYNE”, “DESIGNER DRUGZ” is a compelling introduction to the the pair’s EVILSLIME project, while also serving as a joint catch-up to the innovative production work that’s turned evilgiane into the game’s in-demand producer and Slimesito’s fabled stature.
Tumblr media
The lead single for his second project of 2024, evilgiane’s latest release showcases why The FADER recently hailed the producer for his “woozy beats (part New York drill, part digital cloud rap) [that] have served as a springboard for inspired singles byKendrick Lamar (‘The Hillbillies’ with Baby Keem), Earl Sweatshirt (‘Making the Band (Danity Kane)’), and Playboi Carti (‘Sights’ with A$AP Rocky).” Still riding the momentum from a breakout year that saw him land two Top 20 records in Pitchfork’s ‘Best Songs of 2023’), evilgiane is continuing his ascent into the upper-echelon of producers. Blending elements of Drill, Electronic and Jersey Club music into his distinct utopic soundscapes, evilgiane has carved out his own lane with a production style that Stereogum recently hailed as “changing the sound of hip-hop”. Alongside working with some of rap’s biggest name’s, his other recent production credits include collab tapes with 454, Matt Ox, Serane and John Glacier, as well as “Luv The Tour” off the deluxe version of Veeze’s critically-acclaimed debut album Ganger. All of evilgiane's past collaborations have led to the highly-anticipated release of EVILSLIME, a compelling exhibition of his visionary production and keen ability for inspiring artists to step out of their creative comfort zone. With evilgiane continuing to morph various internet sub-genres and sounds into idyllic soundscapes with ever-expanding reach, the EVILSLIME rollout embodies the fruitful ascendence of both evilgiane's forward-thinking sonics and Slimesito's mythical raps.

RHYTHM SECTIONS WITH PIANISTS AT MEZZROW’S
COUCH TOUR: EHUD ASHERIE with Peter Washington and Kenny Washington, 18 AUGUST 2023, 9 pm set
ALMOST COUCH TOUR: DAVID BRYANT with Dezron Douglas and Eric McPherson, 22 JULY 2023, 7:30 pm set
I want to be clear that EHUD ASHERIE and DAVID BRYANT were essential to these sets, fully leaders including in Bryant’s case composing a chunk of the tunes and capable of holding their own. But there’s a reason why Bill Charlap relies Peter Washington and Kenny Washington for their purr and their roar. Dezron Douglas and Eric McPherson are powerhouses and evidently they and Bryant have played and recorded for twenty years. Douglas has a big woody sound and McPherson’s cymbals shimmer. I’m pretty sure I saw Asherie with this band before, but Bryant was new to me.
He’s a big player with lots of ideas maybe sometimes to the point of being almost too busy. But he had lots of interesting things going on. He opened up with Kenny Barron’s Voyage and that had me on his side. There was a tasty standard near the end that opened up and Douglas’ solo was rich and almost helped me name the tune. McPherson stood up to Bryant’s power with his own complexities but once again his cymbal work is commanding.
Bryant’s tunes gave them things to chew over productively but maybe it didn’t quite gel as Bryant overthinks things a bit. Or that’s how it struck me in those moments.
ASHERIE was tastier and his program was more standards based, including a Tadd Dameron All The Things You Are contrafact, Because of You for Tony Bennet, and several tunes from the 1920s including an Irving Berlin and Duke Ellington’s Black Beauty which was distinctively him but not familiar. Asherie also champions Freddie Redd and did his tribute. Peter Washington was more prominent with solos that pushed things along. But that probably just means Kenny Washington read the room and the band and was understated. But there was a calypso like closer that he savored and refined every rhythmic nuance.
Asherie is a fine player but it’s probably the case that Bill Charlap is more adventurous and takes better advantage of the BMW, not quite a sports car but fully able to stretch out on the autobahn with optimum maneuverability while elegant as hell. But the kid didn’t scratch them up either.
But we wouldn’t/couldn’t. Peter Washington and Kenny Washington can take care of themselves perfectly well, thank you very much. And that’s precisely why I see them, separately and together, every chance I can.

UPDATE: the day has finally come... i finished the refs.
Tumblr media
and good lord it took way too long.
anyway, i finally did it! all 25 references are complete (50+ if you count all the alternate outfits/forms and redesigns) and now I can actually start focusing solely on writing!!
for the record this is SUPER important to development bc now I can have fixed palettes and less design mistakes in the finished product (Mad’s “redesign” alone had at least 10 at first).
And before you ask, no I probably won’t show the full references bc I did Redd’s as one of the first and I’ve improved since then and I do NOT want to draw him 3 times again. i am tired.
ANYWAY this will probably be the last sizeable update for Limited Edition for a while!! Or at least until I actually start coding again. Until then stay tuned :)

Babyface
Tumblr media
Kenneth Brian Edmonds (born April 10, 1959), known professionally as Babyface, is an American singer, songwriter and record producer. He has written and produced over 26 number-one R&B hits throughout his career, and has won 11 Grammy Awards. He was ranked number 20 on NME's 50 of The Greatest Producers Ever list.
Early life
Edmonds was born on April 10, 1958, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Marvin and Barbara Edmonds. Barbara was a production operator at a pharmaceutical plant. Edmonds, who is the fifth of six brothers (including future After 7 band members Melvin and Kevon Edmonds, the latter of whom went on to have a modestly successful solo career), attended North Central High School in Indianapolis, and as a shy youth, wrote songs to express his emotions. When he was in eighth grade, Edmonds' father died of lung cancer, leaving his mother to raise her sons alone. At this stage, Edmonds became determined to have a career in music.
Music career
Edmonds later played with funk performer Bootsy Collins, who tagged him "Babyface" because of his youthful look. He also performed in the group Manchild (which had a 1977 hit "Especially for You" with band member Daryl Simmons) as a guitarist. In 1982 Edmonds played with funk band Redd Hott produced by Geoge Kerr. He played keyboards in the light-funk and R&B group the Deele (which also included drummer Antonio "L.A." Reid, with whom he would later form a successful writing and producing partnership). One of his first major credits as a songwriter for outside artists came when he wrote the tune "Slow Jam" for the R&B band Midnight Star in 1983. The tune was on Midnight Star's 1983 double-platinum No Parking on the Dance Floor album. Babyface remained in the Deele until 1988, when both he and Reid left the group.
His album Playlist consists of eight cover songs and two original works. It was released on September 18, 2007. It was the first album on the newly re-launched Mercury Records label.
On February 4, 2014, he released a Grammy Award-winning duet album with Toni Braxton titled Love, Marriage & Divorce on Motown Records.
Other ventures
Writing and producing
From the late 1980s to the early 90s, he wrote R&B and dance songs, writing and producing music for Bobby Brown ("Roni"), Karyn White ("Love Saw It"), Pebbles ("Girlfriend", "Mercedes Boy"), The Whispers ("Rock Steady", "In the Mood"), The Deele ("Two Occasions"), Johnny Gill ("My My My"), After 7 ("Ready or Not"), The Boys ("Dial My Heart"), Damian Dame ("Right Down to It") and Sheena Easton.
In 1989, Edmonds co-founded LaFace Records with Reid. Three of the label's early artists, TLC, Usher, and Toni Braxton, were very successful. TLC's second album CrazySexyCool, for which he wrote and produced some of the hits, became the best-selling album of all time by an American girl group. Under his direction, TLC sold more than 60 million albums worldwide, and a combined total of 75 million records. Toni Braxton's first two albums, Toni Braxton (1993) and Secrets (1996), for which he wrote the majority of the songs, went on to sell a combined total of over 10 million copies in America alone.
Babyface helped form the popular late-1990s R&B group Az Yet. Edmonds also helped to mold and work with some of his then-wife Tracey Edmonds' acts, such as Jon B and producer Jon-John Robinson.
Edmonds has worked with many successful performers in contemporary music. “I’m Your Baby Tonight” (1990), produced for Whitney Houston, was Houston's introduction to R&B music and Edmonds' first No. 1 Top 40 hit in the US. He also wrote and produced Boyz II Men's 1992 "End of the Road" and 1994 "I'll Make Love to You", both of which established records for the longest stay at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He co-wrote, co-produced, and provided backing vocals on Madonna's 1994 Bedtime Stories, which featured the seven-week No. 1 hit "Take a Bow", and shared billing with Eric Clapton on the chart-topping Grammy winner "Change the World" from the Phenomenon soundtrack. He also wrote and produced the No. 1 hit "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)" for Houston as well as the rest of the critically acclaimed 10 million-selling Waiting to Exhale soundtrack in 1995, which spawned additional hits for Houston, Brandy and Mary J. Blige.
Additionally, Edmonds has produced and written music for many artists including Bobby Brown, The Whispers, Pebbles, After 7, Johnny Gill, Deele, Karyn White, The Boys, Damian Dame, Tevin Campbell, Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Faith Evans, Beyoncé, Diana Ross, Sheena Easton, Toni Braxton, Michael Jackson, Michael Bolton, Paula Abdul, Eric Clapton ("Change the World"), Whitney Houston, Brandy, Mary J. Blige, Tamia, Shola Ama, 3T, Sisqó, Dru Hill, Fall Out Boy, Céline Dion, Samantha Jade, Backstreet Boys, Honeyz, Katharine McPhee, Mariah Carey, Vanessa L. "One of the founding fathers of all the best bits of modern US R&B. And so you can't hate him if some of the schlock can be traced back to him also. Babyface was a pioneer of New Jack Swing in the 80s, before setting up LaFace with old mucker Antonio 'LA' Reid to give the world TLC, Usher and Toni Braxton under their guiding hand. There's barely a prominent artist in the genre he hasn't worked with, and as a result he's clocked up a mammoth 26 R&B number ones."

MASN Enlists Trippie Redd For the “Psycho!” Remix
Tumblr media
Photo: Allison Hunter
Nineteen-year-old rising artist MASN hit the creative jackpot earlier this year when his song “Psycho!” became part of a viral trend on TikTok. The track spread across the internet like wildfire, thanks to 1.5 million TikTok users and counting dubbing videos about their pet peeves with the line “I might just go psycho.” Today, the super chill “Psycho!” is getting a little extra sauce with a remix featuring Trippie Redd.
The track is an airy, almost eerie, production about a party that gets a little out of hand, with MASN finding himself surrounded by too many, too drunk ladies. His verse is about trying to escape the chaos, chiming in “I just left in the Porsche / I'm moving too fast I cannot slow it down / On my way to the morgue / I'm dying young if I don't slow it down.” The verse also references a tumultuous breakup; MASN expressed that the lyrics are a “collage of different feelings” he was experiencing when he wrote the song.
Trippie’s verse breaks up the melancholic affair, adding an extra dose of angst. His quick addition reads almost like a checklist for young rappers: no photos, lambo, glocks, stealing your girl. Regardless, it’s still a fun little bonus to the intoxicating lull of the original.
MASN is spending his quarantine in his hometown in Utah, working on a gamut of new music, so we can look forward to more tranquil and infectious tunes in the coming months. In his writing process, he says he aims to create “a refreshing world you can experience through the music.”
With “Psycho!,” we’d say MASN hit the nail on the head.

DGM VIBEZ is back with a new release: Will you stay
May 2022 - DGM VIBEZ is an artist with a focus on creating deeply innovative music that combines different influences. From the energy of hip-hop, down to the unique twist of emo-rap and R&B, anything goes! The artist seems to be a natural-born storyteller, someone who truly wants to use music as a way to reach out to people. While some musicians aim to entertain the audience, others want to create a much deeper bond and provide some one-of-a-kind insights and experiences to his listeners. This is most definitely what DGM VIBEZ is all about, because his music is catchy, yet also incredibly real and thought-provoking.
Recently, DGM VIBEZ announced the release of a studio work titled Will you stay. This is undoubtedly going to be a very important milestone for the artist, who is eager to keep exploring new ideas and unfold his full potential as a musician, performer, and songwriter alike. This song has a very powerful twist to it, and it highlights the artist’s insightful prowess and ability to stand out artistically. DGM VIBEZ’s far-reaching musical style is a blend of influences. You can really tell that he doesn’t like to get stuck into a one-dimensional creative box. On the contrary, he really loves to branch out and use his music to explore a multitude of amazing new ideas and genres to spice things up and add more interest and character to his phenomenal blend of sound. What makes Will you stay so special is exactly the fact that it feels like a bold and confident declaration of creative intents for the artist. In other words, it is like a statement, introducing DGM VIBEZ’s free-form creative mindset to the world and sharing his passion for making music that is unlike anything else that you are likely to come across out there. In addition to the striking vocal performance, the production of the song is also particularly unique. The tone is absolutely stellar, and it is really striking, particularly when it comes to the amazing balance of every element in the mix. The low end is thick and present, really allowing the mix to be filed with movement and purpose. Moreover, the top end is crisp and warm, adding a lot of definition to the mix. Some artists seem to pigeonhole themselves in a single category, but in this case, DGM VIBEZ managed to really bring home a diverse and forward-thinking sound, that has a very distinctive spirit. From conception, to fruition, this release really hits the mark, and it certainly highlights the artist’s exciting identity. We are certainly gonna stay tuned and look forward to check out what the future holds in store for DGM VIBEZ, who is increasingly gaining the attention of audience members and critics alike!
In addition to the brilliant vision and the artistry that fuels the release, the production quality is absolutely top notch as well. DGM VIBEZ went to great lengths to make sure this release would be the best it could be, and his efforts have definitely paid off. Not only is this a truly magnetic piece of music, but it also feels like a nice introduction to the work of this artist, and his aesthetic vision. The music has some throwback elements, giving it a warm and organic sound. However, this release is not really about channeling the appeal of the nostalgia factor. On the contrary, it is about translating this approach to sound to a more contemporary format, going for a fun and amazing style.
It is not always easy for artists to create music that feels catchy, yet incredibly down-to-earth and forward-thinking. However, DGM VIBEZ definitely managed to accomplish this task and create a bridge between these two different musical worlds. Fans of artists such as XXXTENTACION, Trippie Redd, Juice Wrld, Drake, Vory, Dead Rituals, Blink-182, Nickelback will most certainly be able to connect with this one-of-a-kind artist and with this amazing studio release, which holds so much promise and potential. It all falls into place from there, allowing the artist to paint a broad picture with sounds, melodic ideas, and ultimately, lyrics that tell a story. This is emo-rap at its best!

Peach Kelli Pop- GENTLE LEADER (MINT RECORDS)
Tumblr media
I had heard a handful of assorted songs by this bunch over the past few years, but for whatever reason never fully dove in. This one came into my inbox and I decided to give it a good listen and loved what I’d heard. This is their fourth record over (and first for Mint after three on the Burger label) and the band is basically the work of one Allie Hanlon who was the drummer for Canadian pop punkers White Wires (Dirtnap Records). After that band ended she hightailed it down to Los Angeles, grabbed a band name from an old Redd Kross (offa Neurotica) song and began recording, sometimes with herself and sometimes with friends and this new record is the cat’s meow!  It’s a saucy mix of hepped-up, sugary pop tracks and more low-key strummy tunes. In the former category are buzzy tunes like “Hello Kitty Knife,” “Black Magic,” “Black Cat 13” and more while in the former category they tone it down (just a bit) on superb cuts like “Parasomia,” “Skylight” and their cover of the Marine Girls’ “Honey.” While the band excels at both there’s definitely more of the hyper-speed pop tunes. Not much more to say, really. The production is good and the songwriting is terrific. From the band name you might think this is some goofy novelty act but no, Hanlon is a serious songwriter and damn good at what she does and Gentle Leader is one of my favorite records in this years of 2018, so far. Well done. www.mintrecords.com
