I am Dania Hussain here I am sharing my views about to restore or repair corrupted  AutoCAD files. The problem of AutoCAD users losing their old designs without preserving them or having corrupted CAD. dwg files on their PCs is no longer a novel one. Okay! Final update (I swear lol) for those who are worried about/invested in my ps4 hard drive issues!

Long story short: my save data is completely unrecoverable. It's gone. I'm completely shit out of luck for recovering pretty much anything on that drive and I have no one to blame but myself.

Learn from my mistakes and take note of these two very important tips I'm about to impart on you.

If you have a ps+ substriction and you turn off the auto upload to the cloud to platinum a game in one playthrough instead of like 3 (like i did) than for the love of all that is holy turn that shit back on the second you finish. I did not do that so all my save data since I finished vampyr a year ago is kaput cause none of that uploaded.

If you start to notice that your ps4 is starting to lag a little bit when on the hud screen or when a game is booting, then that means that hard drive failure is on the horizon and back up your save data ASAP onto a USB drive. My ps4 had been letting me know for weeks now that it was about to bsod me but hindsight is 20/20 as they say 😔

(For those that want to know exactly why all my data is unrecoverable, then all the in depth techy talk about my discoveries over the past couple of days are below the cut)

So first things first: any site or article that promises a way to recover data from a ps4 hard drive is lying through their fucking teeth. Maybe the methods work on an external ps4 hard drive I don't know, but an internal hard drive is GONE baby! Due to the fact that a pc and ps4 format each of their hard drives in completely different ways, neither is readable on the other without reformatting said drive to work. Which *will* completely erase everything that once existed and leave it empty and ready for use. (Which I already knew about going in so I never did that but I figured I would mention just in case someone tries it for themselves)

That being said, lots of programs will scan your hard drive for free and it *is* possible to scan an internal ps4 hdd. It will just appear hidden as a 'lost partition' and unavailable to pick through the files because, once again, the formatting is not native to pcs. BUT, every scan I tried was only able to find *maybe* about 2gb worth of what I knew was a nearly full 500gb hdd.

And while scanning is free, recovering the said files are not. Every program will cost pretty much $100 usd for a months subscription.

And in a test of putting the old hdd into the external hard drive and hooking it up to the ps4 and seeing if i could access my data that way, the answer was also a big fat no. While I did find out that I *could* still use the hard drive as an external if I wanted hilariously enough, it would require me to, once again, reformat the thing so it would work. Also, turns out anyways that a ps4 external hdd only saves the game applications and thats it. No pictures, videos, or save game data: that is all saved to the interior hdd so that method of backing up is a no go sorry to say.

I admittedly have one last method to try, but I don't have high hopes for it though lol. When I next get paid and have money again, I'm gonna call the actual game console repair store that is located in the northern part of my city and see if they can do anything, but I doubt it. Even if they can though, if I'm correct that method will probably cost me like $400 cad to transfer the data to a new hdd that's already formatted to my ps4. Cause it turns out that you can't move hard drives from one console to another, each one is uniquely formatted so putting mine into my roomies would require reformatting the thing so it can be read and used on hers.

But it's my last shot, I just don't have high hopes of it working 😒

WEEK 5: Studio Tutorial – Drawing with CAD (RHINO) II

This week we continued to expand our knowledge on Rhino to ensure that we have acquired the necessary skills in order to complete Project 1. During the lecture we learnt about Hatching, Text and Dimensions, which are all necessary skills needed for Project 1.

Hatching: The Hatch command creates a pattern of lines to fill a selected bounding curves. Step 1: Select closed planar curves Step 2: Specify the pattern, scale and rotation.

Text: The Text command created two-dimensional annotation text. Step 1: Pick the location for the text Step 2: Specify the option e.g. font, height, bold, italic, alignment etc. Step 3: Type text

Dimensions: The Dimensions commands allow you to draw the exact dimensions between two points

Dim - Draw horizontal or vertical linear dimensions DimAligned - Draw a linear dimension lined up with two points DimRadius - Dimension the radius of an arc or circle. DimDiameter - Dimension the diameter of a curve

-Exact coordinate and angle entry -Drawing aids such as ortho lock, the various object snaps and smart track -Layers to help you organise your work and to assign correct line-weights and line-types -Projecting lines to help you transfer information between views -Your textbook to ensure AS1100 standards, including for dimensions

TASK: Orthographic Drawing of the Pivot Bearing

I began by completing a rough sketch in my sketch book to figure out what each view should look like.

After figuring out each side, I began drawing the construction lines for the front view, to ensure I accurately drew the Pivot Bearing.

After completing the Front and Top views, I realised that my layers were all other place and weren’t organised very well. This was my first attempt at re-organising the layers.

This week we were also taught how to properly save our files. The most helpful option of saving for me is an Incremental Save as this allows me to recover an earlier version of the file so if I stuff up or something goes wrong I haven’t lost all my work, I have just gone back a few steps.

We also learnt how to save the Rhino files as a PDF this made it easier to print. Having to print this file as a post class active was very helpful and I not only learnt how to print the PDF but I also learnt how to use the uni printers that I will continue to use while studying at unsw.

This week I continued to improve my skills on Rhino as I learnt how to hatch, insert text and add dimensions to my drawing. I also learnt how to draw up boarder and title box which which are all critical element to Project 1.

I overall enjoyed this week lesson as it also helped me learn any final skills I needed for Project 1, as I now feel confident that I will be able to complete This Task.

Week 4 – Drawing with CAD (Rhino)

This week, we started doing engineering drawing using the computer aided design software, Rhino.  I’ve had previous experiences with Rhino which made this week’s task less daunting than it would otherwise be.  I found it helpful to revisit useful tools such as rotate, array, offset and fillet.

Planning...

Working in a group was great because we could discuss how to approach the task before we began.  We all had different ideas but ended up deciding to start with the large circle in the middle because we realised that all other elements of the gasket are dimensioned in reference to it.

Layers

From there, we located the other circle cut-outs using reference circles on which they lie.  Even though I knew which lines were for construction and which ones were needed to be kept for the final drawing, I could’ve made it easier for myself by putting construction lines on a different layer, changing its colour and line width.  Using layers would be especially useful for more complicated drawings, hence it would be helpful to adopt the habit early on.

Since I did not bring an extra device, I found it helpful to divide up the screen into two to eliminate the constant need to switch between windows.

Tangent to Curves

In this exercise, I learnt to use the “arc: tangent to curves” tool.  It creates an arc of a specific radii that is at tangents to two other curves, creating smooth transitions between curves.  A similar tool is available in the line flyout, called “line: tangent to 2 curves”, which draws a line, instead of an arc, of the same nature.

Trim  &  Join

The next step is trimming all the unnecessary lines with the trim tool.  This was quite satisfying to do.  Then, I took an extra step to join all the curve segments together to ensure that they are indeed touching, i.e. there are no gaps or overlaps between them.  Gaps and overlaps commonly results from not using osnap, incorrect snapping, or over trimming/ trimming the wrong lines.  If everything do touch, the command line should say “x curves joined into one closed curve”.

Centre Lines

The last step was to add in centre lines on a different layer.  I realised that it would be helpful not to use the colour yellow for a layer, as it could be confused with a selected curve (which is indicated also with the colour yellow).

Saving...

Similar to drawing by hand, using CAD could take longer than anticipated because of the many possibilities of making errors.  One way to speed up the process is by using incremental save, which allows you to recover an earlier version of the file.  However, in this exercise I completely forgot about saving my work until the very end, let alone using incremental save.  Fortunately, there were no crashes, otherwise all my work would have been lost.

As I mentioned my GoPro Hero3+ Silver Edition has been giving me issues lately.

It started 6 months ago as an iOS app connectivity issue. I would connect to the ad-hoc network that the GoPro Hero3+ creates, open the iOS app, and attempt to transfer the files to my phone but it would only work about 10% of the time.

I figured out how to deal with this issue by first attempting to control the GoPro using the app before attempting to transfer the photos and video off of it. I have no idea why, but this worked for a while. But then even this “hack” stopped working about a month ago.

For these times I would connect my GoPro to my Mac via USB and transfer the files. But recently this has stopped working too. The GoPro doesn’t mount to the Mac. And in Image Capture or Photos for OS X you can only see the GoPro being connected for a few seconds before it disconnects, reconnects, disconnects, repeat repeat repeat. Maddening. It isn’t the cable. Is isn’t the USB port. (I’ve managed to rule these out.)

After searching online for a bit I see a lot of people having similar issues with their GoPro cameras after they’ve had them for a little while. Some ship with these issues.

I do not have a micro USB chip reader so I have no way to get larger files off of the GoPro with all of these crazy issues. Smaller files can still be transferred using the iOS application thankfully.

On Wednesday I attached my GoPro to my kayak and paddled around for a while with the camera pointed under water. Typically I try to stop and start the video recording every few minutes because I know I can only transfer smaller files to my phone. But I just let it run for a while.

Today I cannot transfer that file to my phone (using the app) or computer (using USB). And I don’t have a card reader. So what other option do I have?

It turns out that GoPro Hero 3+ comes with a small web server on it that you can connect to, browse the files, or even see live video from the device. I had no idea this was an option. It wasn’t until I stumbled across a few poorly recorded YouTube videos that I saw it. I’ve read the manual that came with my GoPro at least twice and I don’t think it is mentioned in there either. Just to be sure, I checked the manual again while writing this post. I do not see it mentioned.

Here is how you connect to your GoPro using a web browser.

Turn on your GoPro.

Turn on Wi-fi into “app” mode. (if you’re unsure how to do this, see your manual)

Connect your computer to the ad-hoc wireless network that the GoPro creates.

Open your web browser, point it to http://10.5.5.9:8080 (if this IP address does not work, see what the IP address of your “router” or “Gateway” is when connected to the GoPro. On Windows you can run “ipconfig” using CMD.exe and on Mac you can go to System Preferences > Network > Advanced > TCP/IP)

If you did it right, you’ll see this.

I still wasn’t able to download the 2.1GB video file. It halts at around 1.47GB and just sits there. I think my GoPro is telling me it is time to be retired. Sad GoPro. However, I tried transferring a few other smaller files and it worked very smoothly. So perhaps this is easier than using the iOS app or even mounting it via USB. Who needs cables?

I frickin love my kids man, today (kickoff) after strat I CADded up the drive base, and obviously solidworks is finicky as heck, but I have a LOT of experience with it, so I'm pretty used to it. Well I got all the way through mating together this couple hundred part assembly and had one more wheel to just put in place real quick and solidworks crashed so hard it went back 2-3 save files and dumped all the part files onto my desktop. I couldn't recover it and unfortunately 2-3 saves is something like 3.5-4.5 hours of work. I also led kickoff today and I'm sick and tired so I lost my shit. Not angry, but very very frustrated, to the point where I actually had to walk away for a bit, which isn't something I usually do. My kid saw how frustrated I was with solidworks and went home and stayed up until 1 in the morning AFTER being at the school from 6am to 6pm and finished it for me ;-;

QuadrigaCX CEO Set Up Fake Crypto Exchange Accounts With Customer Funds

QuadrigaCX’s late founder and CEO used customers’ funds to trade for his own account on other cryptocurrency exchanges, the Canadian firm’s bankruptcy trustee said.

In a bombshell 70-page report released Wednesday, Ernst & Young claimed that Gerald Cotten, who apparently died last December, transferred millions of dollars in crypto out of customer accounts and into other exchanges, with the funds being used to furnish Cotten’s personal lifestyle and trading habits. Overall, it appears that Cotten effectively stole more than $200 million USD from his customers.

“Significant volumes of Cryptocurrency were transferred off Platform outside Quadriga to competitor exchanges into personal accounts controlled by Mr. Cotten,” the report said. “It appears that User Cryptocurrency was traded on these exchanges and in some circumstances used as security for a margin trading account established by Mr. Cotten.”

Fees and trading losses “appear to have adversely affected Quadriga’s cryptocurrency reserves,” while other sums were sent to wallets whose owners EY could not confirm.

Between 2016 and the end of 2018, Cotten transferred 9,450 bitcoin, 387,738 ethereum and 239,020 litecoin out of his exchange’s accounts (respectively, $88 million, $105 million and $33 million USD at present market prices, though their values have fluctuated – and increased dramatically – over that time).

Cotten also appears to have created fake accounts on Quadriga, credited them with fiat amounts that did not actually exist, and use this fake fiat to purchase actual crypto from customers, with the largest account using the name Chris Markay.

More losses

Later, the report says that Cotten margin traded zcash, dash, dogecoin and omisego, where he “generated substantial losses.”

An unidentified third exchange received 21,501 bitcoin ($201 million in today’s prices) into an account under Cotten’s name. All but 8 bitcoin were liquidated, netting some $80 million CAD ($60.4 million USD).

While this exchange is not cooperating with EY, it is cooperating with local authorities in its jurisdiction. EY is now looking to open “formal channels” with these authorities.

Evan Thomas, a litigator with Osler Hoskin & Harcourt in Canada, told CoinDesk that “based on the report, what [Cotten] did was clearly fraudulent and betrayed the trust of Quadriga users.”

Cotten’s actions could not have been an accident, Thomas indicated, saying:

“It’s possible that he got in over his head and was trying to trade his way out out of a deficit using other people’s money, but given that the fake accounts have existed since at least 2016 and he misappropriated funds for luxury travel and real estate investments, it seems more likely that this was a calculated and deliberate fraud.”

QuadrigaCX filed for protection from creditors in January, owing customers $190 million worth of crypto and fiat, most of which it could not access because only its late CEO Gerald Cotten knew where the private keys were.

EY’s hunt for the missing funds, first as court-appointed monitor and then as trustee when QuadrigaCX formally entered bankruptcy in April, has largely been fruitless.

As of May, the estate had just $21 million of assets to cover $160 million in remaining liabilities, though the most recent report brings the sum closer to $24.5 million.

The U.S. FBI is looking into the losses, as are Canadian authorities.

Other issues

EY’s report also detailed rampant mismanagement and poor practices, noting that Quadriga did not keep administrative logs and had no contingency plan for the loss of funds or its leader.

What’s more, the exchange seemingly engaged in poor accounting practices.

For example, the exchange paid two of its nine payment processors $11.8 million CAD (roughly $9 million USD) in fees alone.

Quadriga did not maintain any documentation, however.

“The Monitor has been unable to locate any accounting with respect to the pooled Quadriga Funds,” the report said. “The Monitor notes the TPP accounts were used to process User Fiat transactions, fund general Quadriga operating costs and on multiple occasions funds were directed to Mr. Cotten, parties related to Mr. Cotten or counsel/parties acting on his behalf.”

It went on to add:

“It appears that as and when operating expenses were required to be paid, or when Mr. Cotten desired funds to be transferred to himself or related parties, he simply instructed TPPs to issue payments with no oversight.”

EY also believes that properties in Nova Scotia, properties in British Columbia, investment securities, cash holdings, a boat, an aircraft, luxury vehicles and gold and silver coins that purportedly belonged to Cotten, and now belong to his widow Jennifer Robertson were paid for using Quadriga’s customers’ funds, and therefore should be liquidated.

“As Mr. Cotten’s and Ms. Robertson’s personal expenditures and the accumulation of their personal assets since 2015 was sourced from Quadriga funds, the Trustee intends to seek the recovery of the Preserved Assets subject to the Asset Preservation Order back to the Estate for immediate liquidation on the basis that the funds which Mr. Cotten directed be paid to them constitute preferences or transactions at under value under the BIA and may be subject to other causes of action asserted by the Trustee,” EY wrote.

The proceeds from these sales, if successful, will go to the creditors’ estate, and could total as much as $12 million CAD ($9 million USD).

Customer claims

In a separate filing, EY outlined the process that former QuadrigaCX users who lost money when the exchange went belly-up should follow to file claims.

“Users will be requested to complete and deliver their Proofs of Claim to the Trustee prior to 5:00 p.m. (Halifax time) on August 31, 2019 (the ‘Claims Submission Date’),” EY said.

EY acknowledged in the filing that creditors have encountered difficulty finding the information they need to prepare claims because Quadriga’s website has been down since January.

A committee and lawyers representing users “have expressed concern with the platform site being offline as Users cannot access statement details or information necessary to complete their claims,” EY said.

In response, EY says it worked with the creditors’ lawyer to help users find ways to retrieve account balance information.

That process involves an online portal where users are asked to type in their QuadrigaCX account number and first name.

“If a match is found, your balances will be displayed,” the EY-built web page says, warning: “Be sure to print or screen capture the results.”

EY added that it is “mindful of User privacy concerns which [were] also taken into account in preparing the claims process.”

Special form

The auditing firm has also modified the standard form for bankruptcy claims “in order to fit Quadriga’s unique circumstances of having claims against it denominated in Cryptocurrency and Fiat,” EY said.

The form, which misspells the word “ethereum” and is interrupted by a page break in the filing, looks like this:

Thomas told CoinDesk that based on the new reports, there may not be much for customers to recover.

“Right now, it looks like the primary source of recovery for creditors will be the fiat and the frozen assets,” he said, concluding:

“The report doesn’t address potential damages claims against other parties but that may be something the trustee will consider.”

On February 12, Ernst and Young (EY), the monitor of the QuadrigaCX case, released its first report with the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. In it, EY stated that the exchange “inadvertently” moved $370,800 in Bitcoin to a cold wallet controlled by CEO Gerald Cotten, who passed away.

The report of the monitor read:

“On February 6, 2019, Quadriga inadvertently transferred 103 bitcoins valued at approximately CAD $468,675 to Quadriga cold wallets which the Company is currently unable to access.”

“The Monitor is working with Management to retrieve this cryptocurrency from the various cold wallets, if possible.”

Throughout the past several weeks, CCN extensively reported about QuadrigaCX and the story involving the CEO of the company who reportedly died with the passwords to the exchange’s cryptocurrency cold wallets containing user funds.

What Does This All Mean to the Bitcoin Holdings of Users?

If the CEO passed away and the access to the company’s cold wallets or offline wallets cannot be restored, the $370,800 in Bitcoin “inadvertently” sent to the cold wallet cannot be recovered.

As such, for now, the company and the creditors of QuadrigaCX only have access to the company’s hot wallets. But, EY disclosed that the hot wallets of QuadrigaCX have less than $1 million in them, which is nowhere enough to pay back users who the company owes well over $150 million to.

“The Monitor was advised that Quadriga held the following cryptocurrency balances (with approximate Canadian currency equivalent aggregating to $902,743) within its hot wallets on its servers as at the Filing Date,” EY said.

Whether it is a hot wallet or a cold wallet, major cryptocurrency exchanges typically go through additional measures to ensure that funds are sent to the right address.

Sending $370,800 in Bitcoin from a hot wallet to a cold wallet the company knows cannot be accessed is equivalent to a company sending hundreds of thousands of dollars to a wrong bank account that the company does not control, which just does not occur.

Already, as reported by The Wall Street Journal, suspicions on the legitimacy of the explanation provided by QuadrigaCX on the loss of $190 million in funds intensified as independent researchers could not find sufficient evidence to prove the existence of cold wallets owned by the exchange.

In its report, EY said that it is attempting to access any cold wallets that exist, which suggests that wallets that can be considered as cold wallets have not been found yet.

The monitor said:

The Applicants and the Monitor will continue with their efforts to access Mr. Cotten’s devices, find and access any Quadriga cold wallets that exist, and locate any other cryptocurrency belonging to Quadriga and report back to the Court in respect of these activities.

The Unbelievable Story of Bitcoin Exchange QuadrigaCX

When the case of QuadrigaCX was first publicized, Kraken CEO Jesse Powell said on February 2 that the story of the exchange is “bizarre and, frankly unbelievable.”

Even at the time, due to the movement of some cryptocurrency wallets linked to the exchange, analysts were skeptical towards the nature of the lost wallets and whether the statement of the exchange could be backed with sufficient evidence.

The EY report comes in a period in which analysts and industry experts are not certain whether the cryptocurrency cold wallets held by the CEO of the exchange exist.

The monitor has confirmed that $370,800 in Bitcoin was sent to a cold wallet, and that may mean that the monitor has found at least one of the cold wallets the exchange allegedly does not have access to.

In the upcoming weeks, EY is expected to continue the search for the company’s missing crypto wallets by going through the devices owned by CEO Gerald Cotten.
