Slumber party question! What's your earliest memory of encountering beauty? The first thing you can recall where you looked at something and were struck by how beautiful it was?

For being the “kid game”, Wind Waker is the only Zelda game I can recall where your companion straight up dies at the end.

now that the edit is done i will not be thinking abt it ever again. here’s a screenshot i took to test new world lighting. theo joy 💓
#river dipping#theodore doe#echthroi#ts4#ts4 screenshots#the nightmares i had over that edit and the amount of times i cried. well.#i wrote a whole thing for it but only took out the opening for the caption#it was… ugh. ridiculously hard to put to words.#and the edit itself was agony.#and i didn’t even want to post it by the time i got in game to take screenshots.#which is why i wound up redoing the pose over and over only to wind up back at the first pose i made for it#redid the screenshots like four times i think#just. i dragged my feet a lot#it’s.#hm.#well i really hated every step in the process of making the edit and i don’t like the way it’s made me feel#but when i sit with that sick feeling and the acrid taste of it i do feel like i'm finally saying something#like there's something real there.#i've just been feeling that punch in the gut for years and i'm getting it out finally#multiple times while working on the edit i recalled this message an anon sent me about feeling weird over aspects of what they#share about their ocs and i think at the time i said something about how i don't ever feel weird about intimacies shared but.#i am protective over the hurt in the past...#so suffice to say. probably won't be sharing another edit like that one for a long time.#anyway...#i just spent forever in these tags...#like. an hour. i'm going to go read a bit and probably journal some too#society if i could just channel my feelings over my ocs into answering oc asks 🏙️🛸

Me: [lying on the therapist couch, gesticulating wildly] I just don’t get why so many productions have Romeo and especially Juliet be so damn hyper/cheerful before, during, and even after the ball (yeah, I’ve seen it live on stage in person. It was cringe as all hell). R&J are many things, but cheerful is not one of them. Romeo is gloomy as all hell, due to 1) Rosaline refusing to open her thighs, but also 2) the fact that he clearly doesn’t fit in with this feud-stricken life of Verona. Juliet isn’t gung-ho for this ball, either. She makes it understood that she doesn’t dream of marriage, so this whole “check out Paris and see if you like him” thing is pure business for her. Sure, she may have fun dancing, but she will still have to wrangle with her mother pushing Paris on her. Instead of trying to make R&J into the glib extroverts they’re not, why not play up their alienation? Have Juliet dance boring stately dances with several men. Have her practiced smiles disappear when she thinks no one is looking. Have Romeo be the only one not dancing. Have Juliet be the one dancing but looking longingly out into the crowd. Have her see Romeo, and Romeo see her. Let them experience true happiness when they are together, let them gush them. Otherwise, you just paint them as silly, stupid teenagers whose romance is just one capricious party hook-up turned deadly.
Therapist: Which is, of course, the intention behind this change.
Me: Bingo.

Alas, it begins.
(I’ve hit the point in DS9 where Odo pining for Kira has become a noticeable sub-plot 😩)

randomly had the most vivid dream last night… it was like a movie with an actual plot, subplots, character arcs, plot twists, musical numbers….. and it was an old movie so it was in black and white. i never dream in black and white
best part of all was clark gable played one of the main characters……. the one actor i am openly a simp for……. best dream ever

i noticed the same thing with metal from heaven... similarly the book didn't acknowledge race At All, which i assumed came from the author thinking it wasn't his place to write about, being white, and maybe being TME they didn't think they were qualified to write transfem characters, i dunno? that's probably the most generous reading.
there was one line that made me wonder if it was implying sisphe was transfem but i think that was me grasping at straws... he list several trans women and works by trans women in the inspiration section of the acknowledgements so i'd like to believe it wasn't a malicious exclusion, but it did stand out.
being white myself, i don’t want to speak on the race dimension too authoritatively, but i did notice that myself as well. on the one hand, i am sympathetic towards them wanting to largely approach culture and society from a straightforwardly materialist angle, given how often that is brushed aside; on the other, i do think that trying to talk about a 19th century style mass industrialization effort without acknowledgement of the brutally extractive racialized colonialism it relied upon seems a little hollow. the book’s setting is interesting and fairly well-rendered, and i do understand a reluctance to introduce those dynamics when your story is about the industrialization itself and the class dynamics that creates, but it does lend it a tang of first-worldism despite its attempt to have a universalist bent.
as for the other elephant in the room: i just don’t really buy it. trans women and trans men are in the same room; trans lesbians and tme lesbians are definitely in the same room (i am in the same room as my partner right now!). the book is *about* those gender dynamics to a large extent, and thoroughly and thoughtfully representing one kind of transness/lesbianism while completely leaving aside another just feels bad! in a book that is so concerned with bodies, that is so concerned with sex and the parts incumbent in it, and in a book so concerned with *liberation,* there is a distinct sense of being left behind, of being excluded. i won’t ascribe intention or knowledge to it but the feelings remain regardless.
(also, to be clear: trans people and lesbians of color are also in the same room. if we are uplifted it will be together. but the story is interested in portraying cultural and religious diversity, there are characters of color in it—even though it’s lacking, i’m not sure it’s quite the same situation. would welcome disagreement on that point though; I’m not an expert)
